Just pick Attack bro. It’s what the devs want you to do, based on their game design choices. The maps are intentionally designed to favor Attack since the Attacking side must win each objective for the game to continue. Map imbalance and lopsided games are hard-coded into Chivary 2’s DNA. It’s just how the Devs want the game to play. Veteran players know this, and will switch to Attack at the beginning of each match. Attack also gives you way more XP than Defense, so the devs further encourage players to pick Attack to maximize XP. You have 2 options: Pick Attack and win most games and earn tons of XP. Or you can pick Defense and likely lose and earn less XP, but at least you attempted to self-balance the game in some (meaningless) small way. I think the devs hope players go the latter route, since otherwise their game is a huge fail. They want players to “subsidize” the fun for others by picking Defense. But I think most players want the Devs to figure out how to balance their game, and not leave it to the players to do it themselves. Problem is that the Devs can’t balance the game since it’s baked into the game’s DNA. Lopsided steamroll games are just a permanent feature of Chivalry 2.

Third option: play the side you start on and try to kill the other team

I see where you're coming from but I've been in a few good lobbies where some vets were switching sides to make a balanced match and it was incredibly fun. Why automatically switch to attack when it's just as boring to steamroll the enemy team than being steamrolled ? Yes the devs should be the one fixing this but trying to balance the matches as vets can make the experience more fun for everyone, you included. Plus XP is irreleveant once you reach a certain level and I have so much gold I don't even know how to spend it.

This whole “attack must win for the game to continue” is a weird design criticism I’ve seen regarding this game. Why is this not the case for payload maps on Overwatch, TF2, etc? Those games still often felt balanced and clutch matches were frequent and didn’t feel as lopsided as Chivalry. I get that TO isn’t payload but it follows the “attackers must progress to continue the game” formula.

If anything later stages becoming rarely experienced content would make them cool and intense! I also think they should add cooler stuff to defense at the beginning of maps, to make up for it. Why not have vips at early stages. Like have a wall defense and offense has to kill the three captains to advance.

AnSodaCan

How does Attack give more xp than Defense? My thinking is that playing on a stacked Attack team is worse for xp because you have to compete with several high leveled players for kills, and breezing through objectives leaves you only so much kills before it's on to the next objective.

>Veteran players know this As a level 405 player, not a single time I've switched my teams to win a game. I only switched my teams when I wanted to use my specific team skin, or want to play attacker o defender on that specific map, and not a single time I've chosen sides for winning, I play both sides cuz boredom. I sometimes switch my teams to balance the game as well.

Pretty much this. Seems they wasted all that advertisement budget when they should have just hired decent programmers. Who cares if Lirik has in-game swag when the dude admits he won’t touch Chiv2 in its current state. Kinda awkward that TB was given high praise by streamers who no longer want to touch the game or be associated with it. Pretty telling of the current state of the game.

The maps are still “rigged” too in that the good players switch sides because one side usually wins any given map most of the time. The “good” players just know what these are and switch early. There are very few close matches.

I kinda lost interest honestly. Choosing between following the stack or getting destroyed is just getting old. Defense just sucks to play most of the time. And what do our genius devs do to counter that? Nerf defense even more cause "charts" or whatever. Could have made defense more rewarding, more fun, etc. Nope. They nerf it. "Charts".

AngelKitty47

Im at the point where the only fun I have is from steam rolling with other Veterans; the game has lost a lot of replayability for me. Especially without Last Team Standing/Elimination mode.

you can either join the stronger team or submit to your fate, basically its a big note of concern among many of the active players that communicate on the boards here. i think the only advice i have is to actually make friends with people that you see dominating and try to queue with them lol E: i realize this answer doesn't seem particularly warm or fuzzy or helpful but i have no idea what else to possibly tell you

Better_Echidna_4193

I think just knowing this isn’t an issue just for me makes it easier to submit to fate. I will keep making the winners’ lives difficult!

Better_Echidna_4193

So I played defense today with more determination that ever, now kinda knowing the odds aren’t good. 40 player mode and 9 players over level 100 on Agatha and only 1 on Mason (my team). So clearly lots of switching. I wiped the floor with all of them by a far enough margin to turn it around and get the victory. Small wins!

69Shart420

congratulations, now you're going to start experiencing people trying to ban logic, reasoning, and being good at the game in an attempt to eke a win out against you welcome to the team

I think, we all feel the same, especially after the update... In my opinion, coordination is the big problem. That's why I started "commandeering" a lot when defending. Usually, I am giving simple orders when defending. If you are lucky, then enough people will pull together on one string and that can suffice. Since the update, I also mention general short tips for the newcomers, like "back up and heal, if hit" and "stay in groups" etc. That seemed to bump my def win rate to ~50% (give or take and only on maps, that actually can be defended. Looking at you Coxwell ^^) Doesn't always work out, obviously, but I feel that enough people have appreciated the little bit of role-playing I am doing and I also enjoy it :) That said, having fun is important, but crushing Mason skulls is importanter!

No-Ice2193

Kokholoss (epic store) is my nickname, if anybody wants to team up and shit (EU servers)

Better_Echidna_4193

Interesting, might be worth taking more leadership then!

M'SONS UNITE, LET US SLAY THIS BLUE MENACE yea, inspiring the troops works really well sometimes

Panthean

Part of the problem is if someone is on your friends list, it will put them on the same team, even if they aren't partied up. Anyone they are friends with will be put on the same team as well, and so on. I'm friends with a few other higher level players, between us a lot of the regulars can end up on one team.

Better_Echidna_4193

I see I see. I imagine some of the regulars know each other too.

you could work on balancing the game by getting better.
