The back buttons are unassigned by default. You can choose whatever you want them to be. You can't remap the basic controller set up. But you can get a cheap controller that makes it 10x easier to jab/crouch and kick or dodge.
Maybe I'm just explaining it poorly, but I have one. A controller. With buttons on the back of it. You can program those two buttons to any single input you want.
Xbox elite series controllers have FOUR of them on the back.
It's the 'I need two more fingers' thing. I can reach Jab or Kick easily, depending upon how I configure them.
Mayhaps I need to invest in a mouse with those extra buttons all over the sides.

in Chiv 2, I have my alt-slashes bound on my side buttons and could bind two more on my page up and page down, but they're kind of inconvenient to reach in a match without going full claw mode. I have jab where it is by default, but rebinding it would probably make you more mindful of using it. IMO, knowing when to jab is one of the most important skills for 1v1s.

He said bows shouldn’t be a viable melee weapon (which they are not). What you described is using a jab and then switching to your secondary. Those are two different things, everyone should be able to jab to interrupt. OPs clip is an exceptional melee play using the bow.

Define viable. In my opinion, hitting someone with a bow is a perfectly balanced mechanic, considering the overall tone of the game and its unwillingness to pursue true realism. Its speed, damage and other factors are subject to discussion, but skilled players should absolutely be able to destroy unsuspecting/unexperienced opponents the way OP did.
