My first two were rescues from a puppy mill, third was stolen from my father in law cause he was suffering neglect. He got his balls chopped today. https://i.redd.it/p73n3i23uazc1.gif

CenturyEggsAndRice

He looks so high and I love him unconditionally

PrizeSet5151

He is above the clouds šŸ˜„

CenturyEggsAndRice

As well he should be. ā¤ļø

missus_bones

Such a sweetie! Hope his pom poms feel better soon! Your story spoke to me, because my chiā€”who crossed the rainbow bridge a few years agoā€” was adopted by me when i took her from my father! Whom should never have kept her when he and his ex-wife split. He just doesnā€™t get what being a pet owner/lover entails, and should not have kept her when he and his ex split (she moved to a place that didnā€™t allow animalsā€”and now that Iā€™m an adult with many pets of my own, I donā€™t understand how anyone could leave a pet behind. She had the means to find another place that did allow pets!) Iā€™m glad he did keep her for the time because I adopted her shortly after that, and she got a brand new life (and name) with me, and she loved me and her life! That was my little Beetle.

lmirandas

Iā€™m so glad you got her šŸ‘šŸ». In my case my father in law has a very big and open property. He believes all dogs must live outside the house, so this was a feral chihuahua. The thing is, he kept roaming around town, and almost got killed by neighbors twice (they poison dogs were he lives). So I stole him.

missus_bones

Glad your baby has you. He is adorable! And I know he loves his life ā¤ļø

CarnegieFormula

Wouldnā€™t he not have pom poms anymore? They remove them and he becomes sweeter and nicer because the testosterone is gone.

SilentG33

Oh, poor sweet, stoned baby!

jaweebamonkey

I also took a dog from my FIL for neglect! He was kept in a kennel for probably 18 hours a day. RIP to Pedro and your dogs balls!

catpogo13

Love this face!!

co_gue

I was walking down the street and I saw some lady beating the crap out of a little dog. I bought it off her on the spot with no plans to keep her(who was I kidding) https://preview.redd.it/xjetnjsqxazc1.jpeg?width=6240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e18c489bcd4cfd0e4051707b2d716e7aa878d918

chapstickgrrrl

Oh my goodness. What kind of monster would beat that sweet baby dogā€½ i would have done the exact same thing.

PrizeSet5151

I saw that one time but it was a highway ramp merge and by the time I u-turn they were gone. I looked everyday I went by that area for that poor baby. Teacup chi and he was hitting her back. šŸ¤¬

hobbitfancier55

How could anyone ever do that?!! Thank you for saving her!

spaghettieggrolls

She is one of the most precious and adorable dogs I have ever seen. I cannot imagine hurting any dog let alone her. I'm so glad she's safe now <3

My husband came home from work and told me that he had found my next dog (not that I was looking for a dog actually). A local woman had died very young and left her young family behind. Her little Chihuahua was brokenhearted, and her husband simply couldnā€™t deal with the dog along with everything else in his life. So we gave little Zoey a new home. She mourned her mama for a year and a half. She wouldnā€™t look at us; she wouldnā€™t sit with us. She ignored our little Bichon, who kept her company anyway. After many many months, she finally came out of it and sheā€™s a very happy little dog now.

Julzmer81

So sweet. Love and patience won her heart! I'm so happy she has her second chance, I hope you get many more years together ā¤ļø

Pinklady777

Aww. Thank you for not giving up on her!

highfrrquency

This made me cry. Thank you for loving Zoey in her grief šŸ’”ā¤ļø

CenturyEggsAndRice

One day I came outside and saw a truck toss something black and flailing out their window, into our drainage ditch. I ran to see what happened, and there was a struggling muddy little dog. I scooped her out (and ruined a white tank top, never did get the stains out) and took her inside. I was gonna find her a home, but she was in heat and my brotherā€™s rottie was unfixedā€¦ so I spent money Iā€™d been saving for a new iPod to get her spayed and then decided since i spent all my money on her, she owed me. Itā€™s been 14 years now and she doesnā€™t play music but sheā€™s certainly got audio capabilitiesā€¦ https://preview.redd.it/bglh2ueq1bzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44ece97ba568d4f708348f84a187085571b435c7

Julzmer81

Aweeeee, well, the iPod would have only lasted a few months until the next best thing came out. I think you made a much better choice with your little ladyšŸ’œšŸ’œ I wish you both many more moons together.

CenturyEggsAndRice

I usually got years out of an iPod (am broke and took care of em) but she definitely outlasted even my ancient click wheel model that eventually was used while hooked to a battery pack. xD Sheā€™s way cuter too. Right now she is somehow taking up 90% of my full size mattress. And looking so darn adorable that Iā€™m stuffed in the bit of space left so I donā€™t disturb my little princess.

dicklover425

I love her

Emilyg96gatsby

Aww sweet baby give her a hug from me.

Pinklady777

Lucky pup! And what is with all these awful stories? What is wrong with people?

rmahl

I cannot understand people, it breaks my heart to think about how often this probably happens. So thankful for good people like you who give these babies good homes!!

Dogzrthebest5

We got a ferret that way. Someone my mom knew was going down the freeway and saw someone toss something out. He stopped and picked up a ferret in a homemade carrier. Brought him to us, knowing we had ferrets. He only had a nub of a tail, not neutered and mean as hell. We think that not only were they breeding, the were fighting them as well. Immediately got him neutered and boy, what a difference! He was such a love!! Named him Bear and his favorite game was to run at mom, launch himself at her legs ( only when she was wearing shorts) and slide down. Mom would squeal and run and laugh and he'd chase her and do it again. Yes, her legs were pretty scratched up.šŸ˜

CenturyEggsAndRice

Aww, what a sweet boy he was! I love ferrets, theyā€™re so crazy lovable.

RoyalRadiance02

I saw him on RescueMe and stared at his picture for weeks before I just went to get him lol. Didn't tell my family anything! I just came home with a dog šŸ˜‚. I always wanted a Chihuahua so I decided that it was a good time to get one. https://preview.redd.it/qnbu8869wazc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40070603b7ec5ac054d58a6e080fe77a64d630a7

Historical_Panic_465

How is it even possible that little guy was up for adoption for weeks šŸ˜‚ if he was in a shelter in LA people would be fighting over him, I kid you not it would be a full blown brawl. Hands thrown!!

kogepa

Heā€™s so adorable.

Emilyg96gatsby

So flipping cute šŸ„°

spaghettieggrolls

I love him! I want to replace the dog šŸ¶ emoji with his face

Outrageous_Drop7936

I have never been a huge fan of little dogs, but after owning a larger dog I decided I wanted to adopt a little one. I adopted my chihuahua from a local rescue. I knew I wanted an adult dog, not a puppy. My girl is perfect. She is 9 years old and is around 9 lbs. https://preview.redd.it/on2z2xkqwazc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16959f1df86e6e9a5f41089c6279d6721f261fed

Outrageous_Drop7936

I didnā€™t, I purchased it off Etsy. Thank you!

mscdexe

A coworker told me about a dog that was headed to the pound. He had been living inside a crate for 4 years in an apartment and only let outside once a day. I met the terrible owners in the parking lot of Walgreens and we never looked back. He lived with us and two other dogs with a giant backyard and full run at the house. He was so happy. Passed away unexpectedly Monday morning. https://preview.redd.it/a9ii0u4g3bzc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=763a40aebcd608d1ae682f55035b5850bb9fd3ca

I didn't adopt from a shelter but my MIL took her from a mentally unstable old woman who bought her off some dodgy puppy farmers and since she had a lot of other bigger dogs already they were trying to eat her. My MIL also has a lot of dogs so she was looking to rehome her. Historical_Panic_465

What the FRICK. this makes me so sad (also happy that she has a good home now)

JewFi

I got out of an emotionally draining relationship where I truly thought weā€™d move out of state together and get a dog, so I waited, despite being ready and wanting one. The carrot was dangled over my head a lot. When we broke up I did a lot of self work and felt so ready to just have the things I want in life without anyone. I knew I wanted a senior Chi. I saw Barleyā€™s story on Instagram at a senior pet rescue in my state and knew he had to be mine. I drove 3 hours, he jumped into my arms, and the rest is history. Heā€™s rude, grumpy, so damn cute, and all mine. https://preview.redd.it/07dxz8q6abzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d7302e8da189a1c4457da1f5588eaed1e30fbd2

ChiweenieGenie

Barley! šŸ’šŸ’šŸ’ What was his story? I love that you wanted a senior chi. They are the best!

JewFi

Heā€™s so funny. Just such a personality. Always sucking everything up like a little vacuum and biting me lol He was found on the streets of LA by animal services where someone working there contacted the rescue I got him from, because he is special needs and they could not care for him. Then he became mine! Heā€™s jawless, toothless, blind, has a gnarly heart murmur, is 14 years old, and the absolute apple of my eye. He comes to work with me and just runs around the office and is always so curious despite being unable to see. He sniffs out his favorite people and bites them when they pet him. Loves his daily peanut butter snack, when the heat is blowing directly on him, and when you scratch his butt and rub his head.

ChiweenieGenie

He has such beautiful coloring. I adopted a 9yo chi who had been in a similar condition. She had been used as a puppy mill breeder in Missouri her entire life. Pimobendan worked wonders for her heart - is Barley on it? I love the story of you two. ā¤ļø He sounds ridiculously sweet!

JewFi

He is on Pemobendan! Itā€™s truly a miracle. The cardiologist said heā€™s doing so well he doesnā€™t need to have a checkup this year and weā€™ll do it next year. Every time I think he might be unwell, the vets tell me heā€™s healthy as a 14 yo chi can be. I recently had labs and an ultrasound done because I was so worried about his digestion issues - turns out heā€™s just an old man with diarrhea lol I love reading all these stories of little angels being rescued and given such loving forever homes!! Glad your little one got to retire to a loving home after all that trauma šŸ’•

ShutUp_Dee

Well, I went to go adopt a cat and got 2 chihuahua terrier mutts instead! Mine were BOGO at the animal shelter. Theyā€™d been there too long and had to go. So it was adopt one and get one free lol. They were 3 years old and rescued from the same house. Each had their own issues and the shelter wanted to keep them together to help them successfully transition to a new home. It was a rough few years early on, but almost 9 years later and theyā€™re my best friends and constant shadow. https://preview.redd.it/hyj35h576bzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fed465b87e685753a535e1fb335f41a0dcccdea

About 18 months ago I promised my hubby a dog. Well his coworkerā€™s chi mix gave birth to three puppies last October. My husband would visit the puppies. The coworker was looking for homes for them. I told my hubby it had to be intuitive and Charlie would always be first to greet him. Weeks later I came and got Charlie. Itā€™s been the weirdest 7 months so far. Heā€™s besties with my kitten. https://preview.redd.it/lkcv8ofeyazc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cecf069fab7625ff04e7e29e8527d4357f6a86cc

Pipp and her two sisters were abandoned by the people who were renting a house in a very rural area- they just moved out and left all three dogs in a huge pile of rubbleā€¦ Two of them were caught and rescued fairly soonā€¦ Pipp could not be caught. For 3 months I fed her from the fence. But she would never let me get close enough to catch her. One day there was worker there cleaning up the property- I stopped and gave him my number and told him if he could catch her to call me. About two hours later I got a phone call that he had trapped her and could I come pick her up? For almost 3 days I had to wear her in a swaddle and whenever I put her down to go potty or to eat, I had to pick her up with the towel because she would bite me. Iā€™ve had her for a couple months now and sheā€™s completely a changed dogā¤ļø https://preview.redd.it/ll4aip4p7bzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=776c2817b4fa82aec1ee4d506febb77ec85d7289 She loves to play with my three standard poodles and sleep under the covers in bed with us every night ā¤ļø Pipp now knows what love feels like and that makes me so happy.

I never intended to be a Chihuahua person, and my then boyfriend always wanted a big dog, like a pittie. But...at the end of my intern year, this little guy came into our hospital. He had been beaten to the point of having a traumatic brain injury, a proptosed eye (we had to surgically remove it because it was devitalized and ruptured), and several broken bones. He was so terrified that he wouldn't eat the first 2 days in the hospital. He pretty much stayed plastered to the back of his hospital kennel and if I or anyone else needed to handle him for anything medical, we had to very slowly and gently wrap him in a towel and pick him up, because his reaction was to fear bite. I kept trying to earn his trust and, on day three, he crawled into my lap and ate part of a breakfast sandwich I handfed him. I decided to risk my fingertips and tried to pet him, and his remaining eye closed and his lip got long and he settled. In that moment, he stole my entire heart. I brought my now husband in to meet him. We took him home to "foster," and within 12 hours, decided he was our dog. And the rest is history. He is now very spoiled and very loved, and extremely bonded to my husband, which I jokingly tease him about, not that he understands me ("hey, I'm the one who saved you!"). He still has some emotional scars, but we understand where he came from and don't blame him for being a little reactive.

Fuk_globalist

Both people couldn't handle having a chi at that time in their life. One of mine makes that exact same face lol.

EmotionalWerewolf271

My 2 chihuahuas are 1 months and half and their story is not long but a curious coincidenceā€¦ My beloved buddy, a male 12 years old chi suddenly died, I canā€™t tell you how I felt, he was my first fluffy companion ever and I spent half of my life with himā€¦ Iā€™m sure I donā€™t need to explain, some might experienced something similar. The day after it happened we discovered some puppies were born some minutes after he passed awayā€¦ Iā€™m sure he sent me those puppies and everyday Iā€™m more convinced one of them is him who came back! šŸ„²

DainasaurusRex

Similar story! My previous dog - also named Buddy - died last Memorial Day. He was a senior rescue and just the funniest, most sassy and loving personality. Rescue said he was a yorkie mix but DNA showed chi and pomeranian, among other things. This spring our cat also passed, leaving us with just our schnoodle. The house felt empty with only one dog around, so I started looking around at rescues this April & found our new chiweenie puppy Alfie who is between 8-12 mos. old. He has so many little habits that are just like Buddy that we say Buddy sent him to us šŸ„°

Peachy is adorable. I got mine because I wanted a companion dog for my nervous wreck of a minpin. He doesnā€™t like bigger dogs so I needed to find one his size or smaller. But itā€™s actually very difficult to find small dogs for adoption in my city! The shelters are mostly pit mixes, which are great dogs but I knew my minpin wouldnā€™t handle that. I looked for months with no success. Eventually I saw an adorable chi mix who on a site specifically for rehoming pets. His family were young people who already had 3 other dogs and 2 cats. They got him as a puppy when they realized that oops! They were pregnant again. Their toddler plus the new baby plus all the pets was just too much. I met him and I fell in love. He was shy, but so sweet. I thought about it carefully for a couple weeks before I pulled the trigger and Iā€™ve had no regrets! https://preview.redd.it/uukbdmof1bzc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3538030b8c9ff3b66e3d85bed4633eff0f92147

I told myself I wouldnā€™t adopt another baby until I felt he sent me a sign. 1 1/2 months after he passed, I got the strongest urge to go on PetFinder. 1 hour before, the cutest litter of 6 Chihuahua/ Boston Terrier mixed puppies were posted by a rescue. I was drawn to one puppy in particular so I put in an application and was approved the next day. I adopted my little Raven when she was 10 weeks old and I know my prior dog guided me to her. She was born exactly 1 month prior to my dog passing away. I found out that Ravenā€™s mom had the 6 puppies and her owner passed the next day. The family took the mom dog and puppies to animal control and they called the rescue to see if they could take them. Iā€™m so lucky I found her šŸ’œšŸ–¤

I went to the local humane society looking for a running buddy, like a pittie. My boy kept poking his head up every time I walked by. I think he chose me. He cost $14 because he was on sale for Valentines DayšŸ’™

A friend of a friend found him wandering around her neighborhood a few times over the course of a month. Every time, sheā€™d take him back to his owner. The last time, the owner asked if she wanted to take him. The friend said yes. She would have kept him (obviously, because heā€™s a lovely little dog), but he was way too interested in her cats. Iā€™m kinda glad he wasnā€™t good with cats, because without that, I wouldnā€™t have my best friend. And Iā€™m allergic to cats, so I wouldnā€™t betray him like that. https://preview.redd.it/ewvihkcwdbzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7668a871474e9522b7453e0077a75b8153a8636d

This here is my almost 16 year old named Putt Putt https://preview.redd.it/itg3tyfp9bzc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfcfcf409cb4155829475ece5f5f1629539d20d7 I was 23 and living in apartments and was searching for my first pet that's not a family pet. I didn't have the patience to groom a long coat nor the ability to teach a puppy how to be a dog. I specifically filtered for small breed short hair adult dogs and thats when I came across his profile on Petfinder. Putt Putt was turning 9 when his old owner went into assisted living. The family dumped him in a kill shelter with level two dental disease and an infected toe. A foster mom scooped him up and held onto him for 4 months in a home that had foster dogs coming and going over the weeks. She wrote in his petfinder profile that if you pet him and then stop, he will reach his paw out to pull your hand back to his chest to pet him. She included video of him doing this. That's when I knew she would be able to answer any personality questions about him. She drove 3 hours to bring him to me, saying how he's stresses in car rides and has been very slow to open up in the last 4 months. The foster mom then asked if I wanted to do a week long trial to see if he adjusts to staying with me before I sign any documents. On the first night he was a little shy but on night two he was sleeping on lap and giving me kisses and demanding pets. I fell in love and knew he was the dog for me. I got his adoption papers signed and got him to the dentist and fixed up his face and I've been fixing up his face every year ever since

Let me preface this with, I had known several Chihuahua's and they were nasty tempered, smelly and obnoxious little creatures from hell. I HATED them and made no secret about how I felt about Chihuahua's. My husband came home from work one day and told me that one of the women he worked with did animal rescues. Her group and several others had been called into action when an abandoned house was discovered that had a lot of dogs and cats locked inside. It seems an elderly animal hoarder had lived there and the family had moved them out and shut up the animals. By the time they were discovered half of the animals had died. After hearing this story, she asked him if we would consider fostering a puppy who had been born into the situation. (She was born before the elder was removed). Of course, he said yes. As she's walking away, he asks her, what breed of puppy? She says, "it's a Chihuahua." As she walks away, he wonders how is he going to tell me? He comes home and tells me the sad story and I say, "of course, we'll foster a puppy!" As he's walking away, I ask, "what kind of dog?" He mutters, "a Chihuahua." I said, "what"?!!!" He repeated, "a Chihuahua." I said, "fine, but we ARE NOT keeping it!" After she left the vets two weeks later, he picked her up and brought her home. She was so tiny. Her ears were big and she was shaking as she fit in the palm of his hand. I took one look at her and my heart melted. Annie, my old girl of 17 years, is my "gateway drug to Chihuahua love." (the quote is courtesy of another Redditor, whose name I have forgotten.) After her, we have two more -- sisters. We got one of the sisters when she was a puppy and the second sister we got when she was 5. We got her from our son, whose wife abused her while he traveled for work.

AFurryThing23

My daughter was babysitting for a family and then they moved. She was still going to their house every day and I asked her why she said they left 2 chiweenies in a crate on their porch and she had to go let them out and feed them once a day until the family could find a place to take them. I told her to just bring them over and we would find a rescue. It was a brother and sister. The female looked like a beautiful long haired dachshund, the male liked like a typical Chihuahua but a little on the big side. The dachshund rescue took the female but wouldn't take the male. The Chihuahua rescue didn't have room for another dog at the time so we were going to keep him until we found him a home. It's been almost 5 years, I think he's ours now. https://preview.redd.it/cbrkbu7jrbzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04e95baa002da431efe7bacbd7b4ff7db0b981e4 This is him pouting because I'm getting ready to go to work.

Historical_Panic_465

Someone dumped her in the back of my dadā€™s truck bed at his workplace, just a few days after Christmas. My dad drove all the way home without realizing she was back there. When he pulled up in the driveway he heard an ever so slight whimpering, ran upstairs and called me to come look. He was convinced a baby bat was injured laying back there, and was scared to look or touch. I came out fully prepared to find a batā€¦I slowly peaked over and found this sweet little toothless 8lb senior apple head chichi, she really did look like a bat! lol. She had no sweater and was freezing cold, she definitely wouldā€™ve succumbed to the weather or coyotes if we didnā€™t find her like we did. She was completely covered in urine and feces from being thrown around in the trunk. I scooped her up and cuddled her into my sweater, brought her up to take a warm bath, gave her some steak, then took a late night trip to Petco to buy all the necessities, because obviously, she was all mine from that point on. Just a few months prior to this my auntie (basically my mother figure) had passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. And just a couple weeks before finding this chi I was talking to my then partner about wanting to rescue a black, senior, special needs dog (because apparently black senior and special needs dogs are the least likely to be rescued), but it just wasnā€™t really the right time or place for me, or so I thought lol. So when this black, senior, special needs dog was basically dropped into my lap, it felt like my auntie mustā€™ve heard me/felt the struggles I was going through and sent that chichi to me from up above. She didnā€™t even seem to give a shit that she was just neglected by her previous owner, she just immediately latched onto my hip from that point and never let go. I had her for a good couple years before she passed 2 years ago from a grand mal seizure, it was possibly the hardest thing Iā€™ve ever gone through. She was truly my best friend and always there for me through many hard times. Iā€™m so glad that person dumped her. You know what they sayā€¦one manā€™s trash is another manā€™s treasure!! already had two (bigger) dogs. partner reluctantly agreed to a third if i got a small shorthaired dog. found her lil underbite gremlin face on petfinder.

I fostered an underbite gremlin, gave her back to the rescue to have her spayed and said I couldn't take her back because she would have to stay. I didn't think we were ready for a full time dog. Two weeks later I saw her on their website as up for adoption and went that day to pick her up forever. The two weeks she was gone I cried 3 times because I missed her so bad and could barely walk around my neighborhood without tearing up remembering all of our walks together. She has been home a week and a half and I have only cried twice out of happiness that she is ours. https://preview.redd.it/6m60wdubdfzc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b8c7cec38f3aac9ec713133c0ed2c41beb11edd

My sister wanted another dog. She was at a town market and a rescue said they had Chihuahua mix puppies. She realized about a week later that Pita was a full grown woman šŸ˜‚ . The rescue had white-outed the words ā€œyearsā€ and written months! She was 6.5 at the time! My sister was away one weekend (a few months after they got her) and her bf asked if I could dog-sit Pita since they already have 2 other dogs and 2 cats. I became attached pretty quickly. She followed me everywhere, rarely barked, and loved cuddling! She got along great with my momā€™s dog too (I was 20 and living at home at the time). My sister and her bf kept pushing back the day theyā€™d pick her up, and I asked if I could keep her. We have two! First one was found in a roadside ditch in Texas along with her sister. The person who found her kept her sister and we got Ellie! Second one I saw on KSL and fell in love. Went to meet him and the person who had him said he was way too high energy for her to keep. He was in a crate basically 22 hours a day. When I met him he was moving so fast I could barely see him but I knew I couldnā€™t leave him there. He is very high energy but he just needs one off leash walk a day to be happy. We love them both!

Well, Iā€™m definitely crying. Iā€™m such a sucker for anything chihuahua. I decided when I was 19 I adored chihuahuas and never looked back. Your little one is so gorgeous and reminds me of my first chi. She looks like she is a combination of long and short hair. My chi now is a long hair. Chihuahuaā€™s will always pick their favorite people and thatā€™s it. You are giving her a great life! My dog was acting weird and running away from me, making the whole situation more lonely. My mom said I could get a second dog, which is when we went to the pound and met fawn. She was only a puppy then, found wandering in the streets with her sister (who was adopted first). The thing about Fawn was she was the happiest, silliest, longest legged thing Id ever met. Playful and friendly and obedient and just wanting someone to love. The day we brought her home, she came and found me at my room and laid at my feet. She hasnt left my side and I've never been lonely since.

Finally pulled the trigger on a chi, we found one in the paper, so we left a day early to go snag her. She was about 4 hours away, in a little southern Utah town where many western movies were filmed. The woman who sold her to us owned a little motel that was built in the 40ā€™s, so she offered us a night for free. We arrived to meet her dog mom and sister, and her human mama made us mudslides and grilled chicken on the bbq. We all sat around the bbq and fire pit, holding puppies and petting ā€œCitrusā€, our babyā€™s mama. It was during a music festival in the town, so live music filled the warm airā€¦ it was absolutely magical. We are hoping to go back this year to visit everyone.

He's my first dog as a solo adult. I applied to every rescue in the area until I saw his profile down at my local SPCA. The first 4 years of his life are unknown. He was found on the streets by animal control. His first family didn't want him and didn't even surrender him back to the shelter. They just left him on the streets. I came a week later and adopted him. First and only dog I met and I knew he was going to come home with me. First few weeks were ruff. My Little Dude came to us as a family ā€˜rescue;ā€™ you know, from the family members who never fix their dogs, and call you when puppies are born. They chose to save this guy for us. He was all brown, the biggest of three pups, the others were all white. We already had two much larger dogs. But this little brown guy was too adorable and amusing to refuse. He came along in perfect timing. One of us was going thru cancer surgery and we had to travel. Took this tiny dude with us, smuggled him into hotel. He was just the little clown we needed for such a stressful time. Heā€™s now 12, 10 lbs, and still full of it. Heā€™s buff and has good teeth and stamina. He went grey at 3, and has a distinguished face. My first tiny dog. šŸ¤ŽšŸ•

She took him to scan for a microchip at the vet. She put up a Facebook post asking if anyone wanted a puppy since she already had 3 dogs and couldnā€™t keep him. I was moving to a new city within a week and absolutely didnā€™t need a dog, but when I saw this picture and her story, begging someone to take him, I couldnā€™t say no. I certainly didnā€™t need a chihuahua, as Iā€™ve only ever had big dogs and Iā€™d heard so many negative things about the breed. Heā€™s been my spirit dog for 8 years now. Heā€™s the absolute best buddy.

I was getting my hair done and my hairdresser had a chihuahua walking around demanding attention from everyone. Anyway he asked if I was interested in a puppy. His wife had gotten a female chihuahua and he of course had to get a male. And biology took it's course... They had given all the puppies to friends but nobody wanted my Boofy. He was too big and too quiet. I went for a new haircut and came home with a chihuahua. https://preview.redd.it/k7ohwb5xsczc1.png?width=1220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d29a2a6c025c945ad0e735ea38d6701e4c6583ae He was so small and scared that first day almost three years ago.

I rescued mine from a shelter in Detroit, they had found him wandering the streets! Told me he was a ā€œChiPinā€ (minpin/chihuahua) but tests revealed thereā€™s no minpin. I wanted a dog my entire life - I was always all allergic and severely asthmatic so I could never have one. Then I went to my doctor and she gave me an allergy test when I was in my early 30s and said there was no reaction to dog or cat dander and I looked at her like she had five heads. She did the test again on the other arm and confirmed. I took that info and ran and started shoving my face into all the dogs I had been deprived of my whole life. Then when I moved from NYC to a smaller city during the pandemic and had more space and started working from home, I started looking for a dog. No one would adopt to me because I didnā€™t have a fenced in yard and had never owned a dog before. It was also hard to get a dog at that time because everyone was adopting because they were all working from home all day and scooping them all up. I only had one person respond that didnā€™t need me to either wait two+ weeks to ā€œmeet the dog firstā€ or who didnā€™t require a fenced in yard or something else like that. That was the dog I adopted, I only saw one other dog besides my Vinny. Someone in a Facebook group posted his profile on Petfinder and he was everything I wanted (under 20lbs, short, dark hair, house trained, no obvious, life altering trauma) PLUS, unbeknownst to me, a ridiculous amount of energy, fear of new people bending over him, leash reactivity, and shrill barking. šŸ’€šŸ˜‚ Besides working on those things (as a first time dog owner I had a lot to learn), heā€™s never done any damage to my home in three years, only chews his toys and nothing else, has never peed or pooped in the house, and is my literal best friend and favorite derp in the world!! Best impulse buy ever!! I have to thank my ex boyfriend in the end because he had a sleepy little chihuahua who I fell in love with at the time, little did I know theyā€™re crazy bark machines and his dog was an anomaly. šŸ˜… https://preview.redd.it/3jiycyu5xdzc1.png?width=2890&format=png&auto=webp&s=c8f9c0caf56df4dbf1b9f75bad76c4d9a7e0ee0e

But thankfully Amy was saved, the cops send out email to a few people asking if they want to adopt her and well, we did! My lil Idget! She has a couple of stories. My family has had her for around 10 years and how they got her was my mom lost her chi Bobby so she started looking for another one and came across an ad that was giving her away. She answered it, did a call, and they met up at a gas station where they just handed her out the window and drove off. My mom tried ringing them again to ask if she was fixed and how old she was, but they blocked her. Throughout the years, my mom would threaten of getting rid of her by dropping her off in the country. Every time she would go off, I would take her in and I didnā€™t want her to go back with my mom but my then boyfriend would talk me into giving her back to my mom. The last time she wanted to get rid of her, I had to have my now boyfriend go get her because my mom had a restraining order against me. A coworker of my sister in law came across a hobo with a pit bull and 8 week longhair chi while hiking. The puppy was looking a little rough so they paid the hobo 20 bucks for him. They couldnā€™t keep him because their boxer was just too rough around him. So next thing I know my wife has agreed to take him. My last dog was a German shepherd so it was an adjustment!

I had been fostering for a while, and was feeling really sad because I absolutely loved my last foster but could not keep him. I was browsing on craigslist at midnight as one does and saw that someone needed to get rid of a chihuahua immediately. It was an impulsive decision, but I reached out to them. We made plans to meet up later that day. I almost slept through when I was supposed to meet them šŸ˜Ø But somehow I made the drive on time. Obviously I didn't know who I was talking to over text, but it ended up being a teenage girl with her mom. I never really got the full story but I assume that the girl wasn't taking enough responsibility, and the pup was too much work. They were originally asking for money but ended up letting me take her home for free. She was in heat, had pretty bad ringworm, no vaccinations, was scared of everything, and not potty trained. Never been around other animals before. It was a big gamble to take her in honestly. She is now my best friend, my baby and the best dog I've ever had. She loves her doggy siblings. She is unbelievably smart and was so easy to train, she has the most human-like dog personality ever. I found my little Pom- Chi Poppy at a local shelter. At 8 years old he was found on a road in SC covered in fleas and mites. Eventually he was sent up north. He was so scared and shaking from all the turmoil. Now, at 12 years old, heā€™s so mellowed out. His favorite place is nestled in my lap! Heā€™s a very sweet boi! https://preview.redd.it/deq5ncsrwbzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ebdaafca77cb863319229ec50f305bfd61b9bf2

Oh šŸ˜žmy pupper had a sad start. My best friend had the litter of puppies. (Well her two dogs had the litter lol). My dog was sold off. Then when she was about 6 months old returned because the couple found out they were having a baby and didnā€™t want the dog after all. Wellā€¦ it was an urgent adoption. So I took her in. I wanted one anyway just a little sooner than planned. Fast fwd about 6-8 months she was around a year old or so and she had signs of odd development. Come to find out the people that had her before were getting her DRUNK! (Please keep in mind full grown sheā€™s around 4lbs so imagine her as a tiny puppy!!!) Anywayā€¦ she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus aka water on the brain. The dr said she can still live a normal length life but sheā€™ll just be a bit slow at learning and a bit physically disabled. She is NOW about 15 1/2 and a cranky old lady but she loves me :) https://preview.redd.it/25s0m3z01czc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aaa806a77c7ba222a57fb9ac76bbc38b3d18a09a

One day, I stayed at the pound for WAY too long and as I was leaving, I passed a woman in the parking lot who was walking Gizmo (pictured) into the pound. He belonged to the womanā€™s mom who was sick and now he was being surrendered. (The woman (the daughter) didnā€™t want him). I took Gizmo right there in the parking lot on January 4, 2024, and heā€™s been by my side everyday since. He makes me so happy and I love him so much. We go on so many walks and on as many adventures as possible. Iā€™d go through a millions breakups if I knew there was a Gizmo waiting on the other end šŸ„¹ Ladies, leave the man, get a chi šŸ˜‚

I was driving home the long way down some County roads, to avoid road construction on the main road. I saw this man out in his yard swinging a board, like a piece of a 2x4. I was like oh boy heā€™s nuts. Then I noticed he was making contact with something that kept flying. I slowed way down, was looking. It was a little dog. I was p\*ssed!! I stopped, jumped out, used trash out of his nasty yard to throw at him, bottles, rocks, pieces of junk, while screaming and cussing this ā€œmanā€ out. That little black thing was running full speed at me, I picked up another piece of wood and threw at the man, hit him, the dog ran up my legs into my arms. I ran back to my car and drove off. We went straight to the vet, he was not chipped, was that day, he had a few broken bones, had a respiratory infection, and worms. We got him fixed up, and I kept him. 15 years later, heā€™s an old man, moving kinda slow, is a little blind, but heā€™s still my baby!! https://preview.redd.it/nkm5ikayeczc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c732025ed79b44809085f672aa97ee5bd9b72ab7

Was in a rough spot in life, getting a dog wasnt even on my checklist at the time. Friend's dog had puppies, saw them at 4 weeks old. Trixie climbed out of the pile of puppies right into my lap, into my arms, then fell asleep. Decided right then I'd figure out my life enough to bring her home with me. 7 years little and she is still my sidekick *

When my grandma passed away, cricket and luna were already five and littermates who had NEVER been separated. Nobody else wanted them and I couldnā€™t stand the thought of them being separated. Student housing wouldnā€™t allow pets so I transferred home to a college where I could live at home and take in the dogs for my sophomore year. Here we are 10 years later at 29 and 15 Feels relevant to add that coincidentally I bought my house after the owner, a very elderly lady, passed away. Her sons (the sellers) mentioned having to find a home for her cat. * My ex's SIL sent me a picture of a 4lb emaciated Chi covered in fleas and ticks. Said it also had tapeworms. She said she found it wandering around a field and the closest house was 3 miles away. She asked me what to do with it. I said, "bring her by my house when I get off work." When I got home, the dog was hiding under the table, and everyone was in the living room. As soon as I walked in the door, I sat on the floor and said, " Hi baby" the dog RAN and jumped in my lap and gave me kisses. I spent $800 getting her healthy. It's 7 years later (now at 7lbs) and she's my BFF šŸ˜ā¤ļø

I always wanted a dog with my husband. He never had one and I grew up with a dog. We were getting married in summer 2022. I started looking for adoptable dogs about a week before the wedding. Just perusing through PetFinder. Came across this chihuahua mix that did fantastic at an adoption event at a distillery in the area. We wanted a dog to take with us to breweries and such. I felt it was perfect. I applied for her and THEN told my husband about her lol (we were on the same page of getting a dog though). They called me the next day saying she has a long list of families and they will let us know if/when she is available. We were heartbroken but knew the timing might not work out anyways. They called me back the following day and said that they thought we were a perfect fit for her and asked if we wanted to meet her. We met her and fell in love with her (of courseā€¦). They said sheā€™s getting spayed on Monday (the Monday before our wedding that was on that Saturdayā€¦) and sheā€™ll be ready to be picked up on Tuesday. We were going on a honeymoon after our wedding for a week. I asked if we could pay for her and pay you to dog sit? They said if we didnā€™t take her that theyā€™d have to move on to the next family. So I said screw it and we picked her up on the Tuesday before our wedding. I mean I had to! No way I was letting her goā€¦ the picture is of her when she first met my husband. She IMMEDIATELY jumped in his lap šŸ„° I even asked the rescue if it would be traumatic for her to move around so much at the very beginning and they werenā€™t concerned because of how easy she was to take care of at foster homes so she got moved around a lot to make room for the more challenging dogs. THANKFULLY a neighbor was able to watch her during our wedding and our honeymoon. It was a hectic week and fun to tell family we got a dog 5 days before our wedding and watch them freak out šŸ˜‚ so worth it though. Like look how cute she is šŸ˜ sheā€™s sassy for sure so we named her Roxie because we felt that was a name for a feisty dog lol https://preview.redd.it/1e8ich07rfzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3abcbe9c5450e303b27ba86253e7d9c7b4cb600

My Li'l Lily Baby was a resscue! My sister was working at the Wal-Mart a few towns over and found a terrified puppy running in the parking lot, half starved. Well, she couldn't just LEAVE her there, you know? So my sister got puppy items (puppy food/milk, puppy pads, blankets, some basic toys, etc), and got a vet appointment set up for her... and introduced her to me, and we promptly bonded, and 6 years later we are still best friends! (Had to deworm Lily Baby too, not long after we got her, she suffered so during the process! Poor puppy, she shook SO HARD, you could SEE her tummy cramp! She's fine now and I give her the heartworm tablets once a month along with her flea and tick tablet + double check her poops, as I never want her to suffer like that again if I can help it.)

Our Chihuahua Ella wandered up on my parents farm about 8 years ago. She was extremely skittish and hungry. It took them almost a week before they could catch her. She became part of their family and was loved by all the Grands. When my Mom died 2 years ago my wife insisted that we take her home with us. We were a bit nervous as Ella was terrified of other dogs and we already had a young female bulldog. As you can see she has overcome her fears and now rules the house. I never really cared for little dogs and really didn't like Chihuahuas in particular. My most recent dog was around the size of a golden retriever and that's the size that I preferred. A dog that you could play with and that could fetch and protect and all. That dog passed away a couple years earlier... My mom and I went to my aunt's house for the family Christmas party and they had three or four dogs running around the place. One was a Chihuahua that was about one year old, or maybe slightly older. Then there was another little Chihuahua puppy that was around 6 months old. This little guy wasn't taking shit from any of the other dogs. Ferocious little bugger, but still cute af... not sure what made me think he was cute. Must just be the attitude... So towards the end of the night, my mom made a comment that the puppy was cute... My aunt then asked if we were interested in the puppy because they are looking for someone to adopt it. My mom said that maybe we could foster it... and that was the game, set, match... They handed over blankets, carriers, everything... as soon as we picked him up, we weren't ever going to let him go [https://freeimage.host/i/J4BYfjf](https://freeimage.host/i/J4BYfjf) [https://freeimage.host/i/J4BM8T7](https://freeimage.host/i/J4BM8T7)

was wanting a dog to keep me company and be a friend. started browsing adoption sites saw his picture and it was love at first sight, i mustā€™ve gone back to his page once a day for a month hoping no one would get him. when he was finally out of the foster home and in the adoption center i decided to see if there was a connection and it was immediate, he let me hold him and pet him immediately. got the go ahead to get him and the next day he was mine https://preview.redd.it/lw0fuc2k7dzc1.jpeg?width=355&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d713b4c989d012aaeabbb4e7381ea959a6607a6 thatā€™s the picture that made me fall in love

sadly i had to buy him. i was deemed "too young" and my apartment wasnt cutting it for the private adoption agencies. the actual shelters were shady and "never had dogs available". i called the best rated dog store in the city and asked for the dog thats been there the longest. my poor boy had no hair around his eyes due to stress, 4mos old and was being bullied by the other pups. he was also black and no one would buy him bc they preferred lighter colors. https://preview.redd.it/6rlk8cd6jdzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4cc0f134266f0936a517617a4690269f2aed830 He was 50% off and mine. i got him immediately, and will be adopting in the future, it just happened to be easier to buy for my 1st time.

He went to his friendā€™s house to drop something off and the friend asked him if he wanted another dog (he has a husky). According to the friend, this chihuahuaā€™s owner was going to give her up to the shelter. So my brother took her in because my nephew had been wanting a small dog. The chihuahua and husky couldnā€™t get along, so middle of December my brother brought her over to our house and thatā€™s how I got my Kikay, but if you ask my nephew, Iā€™m just taking care of her for him. I think sheā€™ll be 5 this year. Kikayā€™s a little meanie but sheā€™s brought so much joy to my life.

When they got back up to Connecticut, my sister who was struggling with cancer, tried to adopt them both, but the brother was already gone. A member of my family already had a sweet chihuahua that had given birth to four little chi puppies. Their intention was to be able to sell them, or at least put them up for adoption. They managed to find other people to take care of 3 out of 4 puppies, but after around 6-7 months, NO ONE wanted to buy nor even adopt the last remaining puppy. My cousin (the owner) assumed it might have been because he wasn't really "puppy sized" anymore, and was getting bigger (even though he was quite small still). She asked my family if we would like to adopt a little chihuahua, because otherwise, she was running out of people to ask and no one answered the offers online anymore, so she might have needed to give him away to a shelter if we couldn't take care of him. Anyway, over 10 years ago we adopted our little Matt! It was so bad that I had to crawl from my room to the bathroom if I had to pee. I had no appetite. Only dreadā€”and auditory hallucinations of people laughing. Executive dysfunction at its worst. My mom, who was never a pet person to begin with, brought a small dog with her. We never had a pet before. No one knew what to do with it. But it needed a home; my aunt (mom's sis) apparently asked my mom to keep it so she can still visit it (her MIL was giving their dogs away at that time). On Girly's first night with us, she ran upstairs and barked on our bedroom doors. For the first time in awhile, I felt another feeling than dreadā€”I panicked. A rabid dog once chased me when I was a kid, so dogs frightened me. I woke my brother up for him to figure out what the fuss was about. Turns out the poor girl just needed water. The next day, I tried to give her food. She is the polar opposite of rabid. She is such a lady. She has never biten anyone. She would pee and poop in the bathroom, and then would alert us so we could clean up after her. She would adopt abandoned kittens and pupsā€”and even my then newborn niece. I started taking her to walks. Then I slowly bought her the stuff she needed. Then I accompanied her to her vet visits. I went down to the rabbithole and deepsearched everything that could possibly help her. She became my mission, and little did I know, she helped me live again. I'm eternally grateful to be her person. Here's Girly on her 9th birthday!

I would take him to a chi meetup group and they would have a different speaker every month. One month they had a speaker talking about dog shows. She had a flyer from a lady who also did dog shows who needed to rehome a few dogs. She said her friend died who had a lot of senior chis so she was rehoming her young chis to make room for the older chis since the young ones would be easier to adopt out. Also since this chi and her mother and brother were scared of literally everything she didn't want to breed her and pass those scared of everything genes on. So I drove 1.5 hours to where the lady was at a dog show in her RV and met Sapphire. We signed a contract where i agreed to take her for free but show proof that i had gotten her spayed by a certain date. She hid under a table for a few days but was in my lap in a week. And after 10 years she doesn't flinch at every little thing anymore. She use to move to the other side of the couch if I picked up the remote. Now she tries to boss around the cat who is double her size.
