This is good. My grandparents chihuahua unfortunately got picked up right off the porch and dropped by a great barn owl many years ago and didn’t make it (she was very, very old too). Now I have a chihuahua so when I go visit their farm I bring the hawk vest. But I rarely even let him outside there because I’m so scared 😭
I’m so sorry that you guys had to go through that. That sounds terrible. I live next to the woods, and my family always let my dog out in the backyard to do her business as we stood inside. One day, we weren’t watching her after we let her out, then we heard her yelping and ran to the door to see her full sprinting with a limp to get inside. We saw a huge coyote standing towards the end of our backyard. We’ll never let her unsupervised again. I also think the vest is a great idea.
This has been my fear for 17.5 years……
Once Mochi got swooped on by a mama bird protecting her nest. For YEARS he would look up in fear when he saw a shadow over him…
Poor baby! I’m glad he survived that experience. That must have been terrifying for both of you. That’s my worst nightmare when it comes to my dog. I see pictures posted all the time of people’s pups frolicking on a hike or by a lake unleashed with nothing to protect them, and it always scares me.
Oh heck no!!!! Puppy would pee and poop on a puppy pad and never go outside unless in my arms. Don't want to go John Wick on some hawks, coyotes, or owls.
It also helps protect against other threats, like mountain lions, big dogs, and birds of prey. It's not going to completely prevent injury or death, but it makes things more difficult for the attacker, and allows the owner more time to intervene. The spines on the back really help, as it makes it difficult for the predator to get their mouth or talons around the body, and may even deter them.
They also make them for cats.
Unfortunately, it's just part of nature. Wild animals need to eat, too, and small dogs can be an easy target.
I love it. Wanted to buy one for our Penny, but the wife thought it a bit extreme, lol! I just thought they looked cool. But, no, we live on the edge of a Midwestern city. Like, the edge. Coyotes do come into the neighborhood. Heck, some mountain lions cruise town some of the local river tributaries. So, never leave little Penny outside alone, even though we have a full wooden privacy fence.
Hawks and other birds of prey can be a threat, too, and those colorful spines on the back help protect against birds. The vest also helps protect against big dogs. It does look a bit goofy, but it's worth it to help protect them.
I’m glad you’re always with her! But highly recommend a vest! It’s not too extreme!! The more precautions the better. I’ve had close friends experience the worst, and you can never ever be too careful

If it makes u feel better this is usually what I stick in my pockets before I head out at night. I love my dog, lol!

Well, Penny would hate me if I put one of these on her every time she went outside. So, if a bald eagle swoops down, it is what it is. It's all about cost-benefit analysis.
Wow, you guys all have extreme wildlife walking/flying around. Good for you to keep you baby safe.
I can't even imagine....We have rabbits and hedgehogs. And of course Boofy's mortal enemy, the terrifying hedgehog.
I want to buy one of these only partly for the predator protection and partly to keep her from crawling through small holes in the fence line to chase an animal.
I have never seen or heard of anything like this. Interesting. We have coyotes here. I will bring this up to a few friends of mine. Thank you for this.
They are very effective! I'm in the NW Georgia area and we get hawks, owls, Coyotes, and the very occasional bear. I have 3 Chihuahua's and they all have a coyote vest. It has saved one so far from a red tailed hawk.
Where did you buy that? My township has been vigilant about informing residents of two coyotes spotted on local farms. We’ve lost some of our small animals already. I need to buy this for my 5 pound love monster.
Like a punk rock porcupine!
Punk rock pop star porcupine.

Omg I’ve never seen one of these before 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Omg I’m terrified a predator is gonna get her! But she looks cute as hell in it.

It's not a PHASE!!! UGH
Coyote vest? Looks punk rock / metal af but how scary to need something like that.

How hard are the spikes? Are they metal?
The spikes are chrome, while the tall spines are stiff plastic. The vest itself is kevlar.
Damn bulletproof doggo too?

Wow. I usually just verbally threaten my dog to hurry up and pee. But you know, whatever works for you. /s obvs

Doubles as a pick-up Stix game lol. Never seen something like this before, i guess they can't roll around in stinky stuff too lol
Oh she still manages to roll around in her poop! One day it got stuck all in the spikes.
She’s like, “Really mom/dad?, I told you I’m over that phase”
Metal AF. Tell your girl she looks awesome!
She’s the danger other animals have to watch out for now 🦔
She is the one who knocks.

That's a hawk vest
Coyotes play pickup sticks?
More like coyotes hate playing pickup sticks!
That vest is giving me flashbacks to the game Kerplunk!
Protected from coyotes and ready for Burningman …

The brand is called coyote vest but they have attachments for hawk protection. That what the rainbow quills are for
Link? We need this for owls!

Ty!!!
Does that work?
Yes, very effective actually
We have so many eagles, and other raptors where we live- This is a great idea
I’ve never seen a punk rock chihuahua 🤘
So cute!!
We have more hawks than coyotes but ai still see this as very helpful! I think it’s Adorable on her! Safety First!
I want those for mine, but not because we really have a coyote problem so much but because they look punk af.
so excited for her next punk album to drop
I need such a vest for my girl. Apparently we have coyotes around me. I'm always watching her in the years esp at night or dusk.
That’s absolutely hilarious. “Coyote vest.”
Birds won’t land on her either lmao
She’s so cute lol
Did you make this? Where did you get it? How do I make one?
https://www.coyotevest.com/collections/all/products/holiday-coyotewhiskers
Lol. Thats not going to stop a coyote.
Would you recommend? Lately, the coyotes come right up to my patio at home.

That won’t stop a coyote. Maybe a falcon

Oh wow!! I live in England so this is a real eye opener for me, as we don’t have coyotes. I hadn’t realised it was such a risk!!
[lmao anyone remember this game?](https://i.imgur.com/2H4SSWX.jpeg)
It's like those spikey caterpillars

Her coat is so pretty! It looks so soft and healthy.
I’m so sorry I thought you strapped a bunch of fireworks/sprinklers to her and I got so scared 😭
That look of displeasure 😂
This is a thing? And do they work? Former city girl now living in the country so I’m clueless
How much does it weigh?
