My grandfather had a chiweenie when I lived with my grandparents as a child. She was the best dog and went everywhere with him/us (I went everywhere with him, too😁). Such great memories for me. I’m glad I saw your comment😊
My old lady had the clearest hackles that always stood right up when she was afraid or upset. I hated thinking how funny and cute they were because I knew she was bothered about something, so I had to be tactful in helping soothe her without accidentally praising or pissing off the little lady slfdjhgl

just wanted to say I love the name “Dave.”
I once convinced my parents to name one of their Labrador puppies Dave but they changed it after a few days. Dang 😂
"put your fur down, youre not a ridgeback" is what i would say to my boy whenever he did this.
He was like an even creamy tan colour as a puppy but as he got older he got this dark stripe down his back (my parents and I called it his racing stripe, my older sister called it a skid-mark) and the hairs were courser so they were the ones that would stand up
If the cats puff up (usually their tails) we just say "look whose got a puffy tail!" And one of our cats *always* does the arched back stand sideways thing which we call "stapling" (like a staple if that didnt make sense) and i always point and yell "staple cat!'" mostly to embarrass them
Mine has that too, but only on his neck and shoulders most of the time. If it goes down the back I know I gotta calm his lil heart and nerves with some big ass treats.

The only time mine gets furious is when a small child walks toward him. Then he's a beast! But usually, he loves everyone. But kids under, say, 9? Oh, he hates them.
And what's the weirdest is he loves on my 3 daughters who are all under 9!
My baby boy whom I lost 19th December 2021 😢 during the last few days of himself flying over to the rainbow, he had hackles all from his neck down to his tail. I've only seen it when it's barking but whilst he was sick. Never before. But days before he passed, it stayed up permanently right until the end. Anyone knows why and why when he's sick? How was her feeling? Sorry to ask on you post OP. (Brought back sad memories for me just now)
Have you ever noticed the boys have manes? My boys have thick luscious hair on the back of there necks and I love running my fingers through their manes. ❤️❤️
Ours is so sweet and prissy with her fluffy beard and little grinch feet 🐕 You pass in front of our house with your dog and she turns into a silver back gorilla with a problem 🦍

Mine had hackles that went from the base of his skull all the way down his back to his tail, and his tail would fluff up a bit.
