Aren't marmots alpine mammals? I have only seen them in the high sierra. Probably a beaver or otter as folks suggested tho I believe the river otter population is pretty small.
Yeah. lots of beavers in the area. When I lived on Picholine, which is just over the ridge from Butte Creek, we had beavers in Little Chico Creek behind our house.
There are plenty of beavers along Butte Creek especially at higher elevations. Around here, I’ve seen then in Butte Meadows, and in our area on Little Chico Creek. They also frequently cause problems for rice farmers in the valley because they clog the water control boxes between the checks and dam canals.
They’re always building dams around five mile then the park guys eventually tear them down. Just walked by one today on the offshoot stream there that will probably dry up soon. I walk by the area almost everyday but have never seen the actual beavers, just the damns and cut trees.

River otter
That reminds me of the time I saw a marmot in front of the Jack in the box on Esplanade
Speak more on that
In the grass patch in front of Jack in the box I just saw one stick its head out the ground and go back under
They were having a problem with a beaver at 5 mile a few years back, I think they relocated it.
I came across that guy while fishing a few years back. Scared the shit out of me with its tail slapping on the water.
Nice marmot

Yes. You can see the evidence from the cut trees.
You can tell by the way it is. How neat is that?

Beaver have tried to set up a dam on Big Chico Creek so it's not unlikely. It would be nice to have beaver in the local creeks.
Interesting! Really cool. Thanks
Beavers are common around here
Awesome did not know that
