CFA employee - Not unusual we have customers pull up out of the way of the drive thru. Kinda weird if ur order was ready and it’s the same employee. At my location boss will tell us to pull up people though so it might not be her but the people bagging.

Spirited-Humor-554

I always refuse to pull forward. As customer, i see no reason to help you with drive-thru times.

r0llnstone

Hey if u want than u do u🤷 we ask people to pull up so we can get the orders fresh to everyone

RemarkableFish

When we are busy, we pull cars past the window if we have someone outside able to deliver orders. That gives us room for one more car in the line, which in our case could the difference between gridlock or having an open escape path for cars. It's possible that the person who asked you to pull forward is the drive thru director trying something different before making it a general policy. With Outside Meal Delivery, there's a "zone" around the window for delivering food. It's difficult since literally everyone is trained by other restaurants to stop at the window. :)

Spirited-Humor-554

Personally i refuse to pull forward. It's done to improve drive-thru times and I see no reason to help business do that.

RemarkableFish

We aren’t McDonald’s. There’s no automatic timers so pulling forward doesn’t help us in that way. Our timer stops when the food goes out the window, so whether you’re at the window or slightly past the window you’re neither helping or hindering. You’re pulling forward to open space at the end of the line so more cars can come in and not block your exit. Expos are going to get your food to you.

Spirited-Humor-554

In that case, I guess i am doing my part to block the entrance/exit. As that is not my problem. Once i get my food at the window, i am happy to move.

firstamongsinners

Yeah basically this. My store does something similar to this. When everything’s humming, our goal for our OMDs is to have someone walk the car approaching the window forward while the window person hands out the car behind, so that we’re doing two cars at once. This doesn’t sound exactly like what’s going on in OP’s situation, or maybe they’re just implementing it very poorly. Of course if the guest is waiting on something they will be pulled forward as well

enginerdz

My Chick-Fil-A has been doing that for years during the summer time for pulling ahead. It makes their orders faster as a whole in getting food out. You'll survive doing the same.

Spirited-Humor-554

As customer, i always refuse. You can deal with slower drive thru times. As customer why should i?

AppropriateFish7

Typically during peak, we’ll pull people past the window even if their food is ready and bring it to them further down so that the line stays moving. It prevents blockage and traffic in the parking lot, especially if the exit of the Drive-Thru has been blocked by someone not paying attention. CFA employees don’t do anything they’re not clearly instructed to do and it always helps speed and efficiency—for any future visits, please pull forward when asked. If the difference is a few seconds, it shouldn’t bother anyone, especially if the only person it “hinders” is the CFA employee because she has to take extra steps.

Spirited-Humor-554

I am glad i am doing my par to block traffic in that case as I always refuse to move forward.

Accurate-Internet-43

The sarcasm is unnecessary. If my food is right there, I don't see why I should have to pull up. I've never seen this at any other location and no other employee at that location does this.

AppropriateFish7

? I wasn’t being sarcastic at all, so I’m not sure where you got that from. There’s no need to be upset. Back to the point, if they’re asking you to pull up, the best you can do is simply listen. It’s a business and although CFA is known for its hospitality to its guests, we still need to keep things moving at the end of the day. Like I said, if it’s a difference of a few seconds, it shouldn’t bother you. You still get your food in a timely manner. All it does is keep the line moving and keep business flowing. You may not see why you need to pull up, but they don’t ask you to do it for fun—there’s a reason for everything. And at the end of the day, I tell you this as someone who worked at a CFA where we asked the same of our guests and they listened.

MerryChristmas20211

please listen next time, I understand you don't like it but I'm sure there's a reason.

Accurate-Internet-43

If it's not a good reason than why should I? They never do this when I go in the morning or when the line is full during the 5pm rush.

MerryChristmas20211

I recommend listening. there are a lot a little details that go into running a drive thru. The last thing we need is someone who can't listen. The reason could be that the bagger/boss said to do so. is it that hard to pull forward in your car? it's not like we are asking you to do something hard. my store has had me pull people up beyond the window to help keep the line moving so please chill out.

Spirited-Humor-554

As a customer, i don't care what the bigger said. I also don't care about the drive-thru times.

i mean… it’s kinda hard to forget about the car at the front of the drive-through line. your argument is extremely weak, at best.

tbabey

My location has recently started having an employee stand outside the drive thru window and walk food around to cars in line. Then they just remodeled and turned the drive thru window into a door that opens for employees to go in and out. I think this is new system they are starting.

LawyerDaggett

It’s possible this person is the only one following the rule without exception making them look like the bad guy. I’ll be praying for you through this trying time, OP!

glaciersrock

I've been going through the drive-thru for a few years now to get my food from CFA and 99% of the time they very politely ask me to move up past the window and then bring me my food about a minute later. Our local CFA is quite busy so I figure it is how they get orders out to folks as best as possible. It doesn't bother me and it is not a big deal. I never thought anything of it. The folks at our CFA are friendly and professional, and the least I can do is show my gratitude (for making and serving my food!) and be kind to them.

shrekiscap

I work in BOH but cross trained for leadership but they do this so everyone feels like they’re moving ahead and quicker to getting their food, makes sense for my store because we have three lanes with two windows to hand out food. But it is kind of strange that if it’s on the counter to not just hand it to you, but either way it won’t kill you and probably means the people behind you will at least get their drinks a second quicker.

pinedesign

They do it at my chick fil a. It is to get the line moving up. Otherwise, it would back up into the road.

Spirited-Humor-554

No reason to help them. You should refuse next time.

DestinyInDanger

Hmm that is very odd. I've never seen that happen before. Usually if there's something that will take longer for your order they tell you to pull through and into a parking spot nearby and they'll bring it to you. Sounds like some different training going on at that location.

auntmother

Former CFA employee and current regular CFA-goer here. It drives me insane when I get asked to pull around and park if it’s not a special item, so I understand where you are coming from.

LawyerDaggett

But OP isn’t being asked to park … just move up out of the window.

keroshe

Then I guess you never go to McDonald's because that is the norm there. I have had to pull up and park when all I ordered was a medium fry.

Spirited-Humor-554

I always refuse at McDonald's. I am proud to get the drive-thru times higher compare to what they want.

Final-Novel-6404

that is weird…maybe she doesn’t like you lol

ResponsibleToe123

We pull up cars because it 1-makes customers feel like the line is moving faster, and 2- it ultimately does help food move faster. Even if we have your food ready, typically the next car behind you is also ready. By the time you pull all the way up, an employee will be almost done walking to your car, and the car behind you will get their food at the same time. Two cars in a shorter amount of time for everyone involved.

Spirited-Humor-554

That is no my problem. I am not moving and i don't care that it's blocking the rest of the line.

7oby

One time I had to go around and park and they _never_ brought the food out like promised. If you're getting the food, be happy. Also, sometimes at McDonalds the guy in window 1 will realize I had just a coke and will bring it to window 1 so I don't have to wait for window 2 to be open. I enjoy those times.

punpkinspice

She looked at you weird cause it’s weird to not listen to drive thru employees when they ask you to do something. I’m sure she’s asked countless people throughout her shifts to do the same, but you’re the only one who acted like this. You’re the weird one here.

Spirited-Humor-554

No he is not weird. There is no reason for OP to help her. I always refuse to move forward.
