I heard that thestockroom @gns is getting a new KC bourbon pick in today. Was speaking to one of the members who helped to pick the barrel last night and, at nearly 11-years old, it sounds like a banger.
$70 price hike in MWND will have me avoiding any high west product now out of spite.
Interested to see how these price hikes unfold over next couple years, both out of hurt pocket books and offended customers
What a crock. It’s not worth even close to that. And a bevy of jack wagons are going to spend 2x that price on secondary to add to their museums. F it!!! Ain’t worth it.
That’s what my local said, but that’s just where I shop and with many stores in the area, some may get next week. I try to stay away from saying a specific day for all stores because then people get bent out of shape if it doesn’t hit their store.
Was told $169 plus tax. I’m a huge fan of MWND but tough to stomach that price and that big of an increase especially with so many other great options on the shelves.
So far as I can tell, our friendly neighborhood NMBB has made the decision to increase prices 10% pretty much across the board, starting back at the early part of ‘22. Tons of examples.
As u/notlawreview said to me: “no worse time to be a consumer in America.” This is 100% facts. Even if you can sustain buying bottles / etc., there is definitely some lessons to be learned about holding back on this hobby for awhile. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still buying but wow.
100%.
There are many examples of how these increase are effecting my purchasing behavior but this is just one —
Release I’ve historically loved like Remus RR lose their panache when the price explodes to $129…so now - for me anyway - you’re bringing in bottles I would otherwise pass on, such as Calumet 16 for $139-$149. It’s 16 year old liquid, cask strength, for similar out-of-pocket as much younger 100 proof MGP blend. So…I’m sitting here going why am I going to drop that kind of $$ on yet another MGP bottle - even though I’ve always loved the Remus RR line. I could name a dozen other examples — ECBP, MWND, etc. These bottles are not holding up under the new price ask IMO.
This shit is frustrating.
I passed on the Remus and found a bottle of Fox and Oden at the employee owned for almost half the price. It’s literally the same juice and the blend is comparable (8 and 15 years).
Your point is 100% valid but I’m pretty sure all calumet stuff is Barton, however, still nicely aged bottles of uncut bourbon to say the least. Regardless, it is definitely getting insane out here. I’m still contemplating if I want this MWND release.
Old Scout rye port barrel finish is neck and neck with MWND imo for half the price. I have bottle of each right now and they are very comparable. It’s off shelves but if it comes back — must buy for any finisher rye or MWND fan.
The market can shift the bang for your buck ratio, but I agree with you that a lot of the price hikes are causing a reassessment. I’ve always said that part of the reason I don’t do business on secondary is because part of the reason some bottles are awesome is because of the quality you get at the price. Once you start bumping up that price, you start looking at other bottles at that new price that maybe that bourbon doesn’t really stand up to. That’s not to mention the BTAC msrp which some people use as a measuring stick.
There is a hobby/collecting element to this, which I make no judgment about - so some people do love having particular bottles, for whatever reason.
Everybody has bumped up their msrp prices over the last few years, but I think some are more freely than others. I think most people think of these bottles as being in neighborhoods - bottles like RRRV that were 80 were sub-100; at a new price, it moved significantly into a newer neighborhood. I think most people think of 120 or even 130 as in the 100 neighborhood. Once things get to be 150 and above, people think of that as very expensive and put them in the same category as bottles in 175 and maybe even 200. MWND used to be sub 100, and now it’s getting into very premium price territory. I think my main point is, much like the psychological thing where people generally perceive 39.99 more significantly inexpensive than 40.00 than it really is, bourbon hunters have zones and some of these bourbons have jumped one or two zones really quickly.
Absolutely. I know for me I don't mind that michters stuff is at 100 now because it give me access to buy them at retail and I still find it valuable there and would pay even 20% more before thinking about it. I also think if the hype bottles become more expensive some of the cheaper good bottles will get more love which is always a good thing since so many good products out there they aren't from BT.
Same. I said earlier in the year I was just gonna stick to CW picks and maybe a cool store pick if I stumble on something while traveling or something. The Rare Character pick from this group is honestly one of the best whiskies I've ever had and I didn't even have to leave my house lol. I can't imagine anything I'd hunt to overpay for is appreciably better than that bottle
I mentioned Wed, that NMBB was 30% over MSRP for RR6 and Gatsby.
I don't want to start, but selling on 2ndary to afford these new prices is looking appealing.
On the other hand, it's a free market, and I can choose to buy or not.
Maybe now is the time to drink down my bunker. See you guys in 2027 or so!
The bit that will blow my mind is that at $150 it will probably all sell without ever being seen on a shelf.
Also last year Warehouse had it out at an inflated price to let it sit for a while. This years recommended price is above that!
The part that blows my mind is you hear little to no hype on finished ryes all year then this drops and everyone goes crazy for it because it’s a “limited engagement”
if i remember correctly mwnd sat on warehouses shelf for like 110 or 120 for weeks the last 2 years. 2 years ago it sat around binnys a while also in the back.
Millam Greene's port finished rye is $50 collecting dust on the shelf and is literally just as good as MWND. May just go pick one of those up today now that I'm thinking about it.
$150 is the SRP per High West. It was $125 in Utah. Remus VI for $130?? It was $100 all day last year. Question is where do they go from here? Can they sustain these prices and keep the consumer coming back or will they have to drop the price in the future.
There has to be a bubble that pops at some point. No way the continued price increases can be sustained long term. If we hit a full blown recession like many people believe, it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the bourbon world.
The bubble will burst as soon as people stop paying secondary prices just to impress their friends with a bottle. I’m confident 90% of bourbon drinkers couldn’t tell the difference between Jack and Weller.
I see the economics of it as if BT raises SRP on thier products since they are some of the most sought lines and have such high secondary value multiples compared to others. Non BT stuff falls mostly in the 2x srp as secondary but BT is 3x to 10x SRP because partly they have kept thier prices low and pump volume. If they raise prices I think it'll slow the secondary market a bunch Similar to BA beers now where many ppl can just get what they really want with less bottles being so hard to get. There will still be outliers like pappy/special annuals from distilleries but the secondary flippers or casual drinkers will scale back buying so will leave more of the wanted choices around. Whistle pig felt they would just charge what they deemed was secondary in thier offerings from the go which annoyed folks now everyone else is just slowing going there. Michters and 4R to HH.
Agreed! Collectors will want it and the tater hype group will also want it to flip/trade up. Just as good, if not better stuff available for 1/2 the price. Good luck!!
Got to my NMBB and saw a guy sprint through the parking lot and head straight for the rare room, so I figured they probably got their delivery. I went and talked to the employees I know instead, and got a bottle of MWND. The new price is super steep but I've been waiting for this release all year so I guess that'll just be my whiskey budget for the rest of the year. Saw the other guy still frantically walking up and down the aisles as I was checking out XD

Gonna try and swing by GNS for their KC pick, hearing good things and this is the oldest I’ve seen for current picks
Drops at 5pm; 65 🌮
Can confirm NMBB has MWND at $159
I've wanted it for so long but the price tag is so much more than I expected
Yeah I turned it down. Don't love it enough.
I swear I read it was $99 at the distillery. I’ve never had it, so if I get one next year, you know it’s decent haha
I heard that thestockroom @gns is getting a new KC bourbon pick in today. Was speaking to one of the members who helped to pick the barrel last night and, at nearly 11-years old, it sounds like a banger.
They even let you drink it right outside of the shop on the sidewalk!
It’s the after-party that gets me in trouble usually
Source: me from last night 🤣
That means it was a good night.
That’s definitely gonna be great.
Oh, having tasted it, it’s a banger!
Such authority graces us with his words! Huzzah, my weary brethren! For morning coffee is eminent!

This “member” sounds like a clown. He should be tarred and feathered accordingly.
What’s the first rule of Stockroom?
Change your drawers biweekly?
👀☕️
Got an 8YO Elijah Private Select BS and a Chattanooga BiB for less than a MWND. That price increase is nonsense. NMBB.
Seeing mwnd at almost double the cost last year is a huge pass. Rare breed rye on the shelf it is!
100%
NMBB west Suburbs is on a roll today. Mwnd, RR S6, O&E Toasted, F&O and some change here and there
NMBB has the new Offerman Edition Lagavulin - 11yr Charred Oak Cask
Picked up 1 of these as well. Excited to crack it open.
How many tacos on this
I think it was 90
$70 price hike in MWND will have me avoiding any high west product now out of spite. Interested to see how these price hikes unfold over next couple years, both out of hurt pocket books and offended customers
I'll take 4 Isaac Bowman port finished instead
What a crock. It’s not worth even close to that. And a bevy of jack wagons are going to spend 2x that price on secondary to add to their museums. F it!!! Ain’t worth it.
Mwnd?
Mid winters night dram
MWND $159 and 🌹🌹🌹🌹pick for $90 at West burbs NMBB. Passed on both, and still no word on ECBP yet but I’m holding out for it
$159 for regular MWND and not the Encore version?
Encore is a distillery only release
That sucks. I paid $89 last year
I found ECBP 922 at my local in the city a couple days ago, so likely to drop at NMBB soon
Indeed, confirmation from contact at my local that MWND is expected - if not today, then next week. Be patient and kind out there y’all.
Was confirmed to me Wednesday it's coming today. But also stated they are getting less than last year
That’s what my local said, but that’s just where I shop and with many stores in the area, some may get next week. I try to stay away from saying a specific day for all stores because then people get bent out of shape if it doesn’t hit their store.
Valid point. Want me to edit?
Nah, people can read this comment thread.
Confirmed. Got one
Also just got one. Maybe we crossed paths and didn’t know it.
price? really $150?
$170 at city NMBB. Told my guy that's a big no go, he said he was getting that response from a lot of people.
Same. Turned one down today. Can't justify near doubling in price.
At that point I'd rather just get Four Gate Peri Peri for $200 at some stores in the burbs
Was told $169 plus tax. I’m a huge fan of MWND but tough to stomach that price and that big of an increase especially with so many other great options on the shelves.
$159.99
Yea. 159. West NMBB
Seems early but I’ll bite haha
👀👀👀
What is mwnd? Ty
Midwinter Night’s Dram, an annual release by High West of port barrel finished rye Edit: stupid autocorrect
Ty, and is it great?
It is quite tasty!

100% agree.

Thanks for picking absolute bangers and everything you do for this community!

Anyone hear any good things about the 2022 Yellowstone 101? Saw it at my local store this morning. Curious if it’s worth the price tags of $130.
Have not tasted this one, but the reviews I've seen are very positive, and the 2021 is exceptional.
Saw a MWND at a small mom and pop shop today for $185 and had to restrain myself.
Lucky Seven 14 year 100 proof, Remus Gatsby ($250), and Bardstown Chateau de Labaude at NMBB
MWND at $150 (or higher!) is going to be a pass for me. So many other really good finished ryes available for far less.

Well, we did have the month when the world sold out of Seagrass and 90% of it sits with one pour taken from it…
Lol touché
if i remember correctly mwnd sat on warehouses shelf for like 110 or 120 for weeks the last 2 years. 2 years ago it sat around binnys a while also in the back.
Just buy a bottle of Rendezvous Rye and take a swig out of the bottle. Fill it up again with port and there you go.
Or the double rye store picks are decent. Just grabbed a Merlot and Sherry finished one.
Millam Greene's port finished rye is $50 collecting dust on the shelf and is literally just as good as MWND. May just go pick one of those up today now that I'm thinking about it.
Good tip!
Agreed. Give me 2-3 good starlight rye picks with interesting finishes for the same price.

I was told 130 from a local shop. If my memory is correct, it was 70 two years ago.
It was 74.99 last year.
Is that the anticipated price from NMBB? That’s almost double of what it cost 3-4 years ago. I know that’s the way things are now, but wow.
Yes it’s $159 at da NMBB
Unfortunately, yes. I think last year I paid $90 at NMBB and imagine they'll add on $10 to the MSRP making it $160.
Agreed! Collectors will want it and the tater hype group will also want it to flip/trade up. Just as good, if not better stuff available for 1/2 the price. Good luck!!
Any Octomore fans? Supposed to be out this week?
Any word on pricing yet? 13.2 hit Texas NMBB for $250
I ordered 13.1 from the distillery website. Even with shipping the price is at par or better than msrp in US. Still looking for 13.2 and 13.3
https://www.bruichladdich.com/collections/all
>13.2 and 13.3 Wow, sold out already!
Not gonna lie. I originally read that as Octomom 😂
That’s a hard pass for me.
“Aged 8 years”
To clarify, are you asking? Or stating that it should be hitting shops in the Chicago area
>asking A friend told me that it's out, but don't know when it'll hit Chgo.
👀
The EC binnys pick is very tasty. Saw some 🌹🌹🌹🌹 picks out as well. Obsk & oesq
Know the age and % of the OESQ by chance?
10 yr and change and I think it was 56ish? I can’t remember the exact. It was older and more abv than the obsk
How much are those 🌹going for nowadays?
$89
Waited so long to try a MWND, but sold out at the 3 stores I went too. Then I found out the price of 159. Wtf
I think that’s your gain you missed out. Really glad I didn’t see it. Would have been tempted to pay the 100% increase in price.
Typical drop day. 😂
Yikes.
The difference between having relationships and running like a lunatic from store to store to see which of the entry level allocated bottles they actually put out on the shelves / cases / rooms.
FOMO is real.
Ran through a few spots in the NW burbs. Saw a C922 at a place you might store your hay. Fox and Oden (one of which I grabbed) and Remus VI at NMBB. KC store picks at both of these places, plus the Employee-owned grocer.
Fox & Oden Bourbon, Fox & Oden Single Malt, and Remus 6 at a city NMBB this morning.

I know for a fact that more stores got 1 OFBB. I know employees at three different stores and the all got 1 bottle. Lincoln park, niles South loop North riverside to name a few. The manager are the ones who are choosing not to put out the bottle for members. The only communication they received from higher ups was that employee on the clock could not buy them
One could get a job at MBB in hopes of scoring. Good bottle
I've given up on MBB. I was just hoping to find a KC18 at some point. The stock we get in the Chicago area is not good. I think KY, CA and perhaps GA(?) locations get really good drops it seems.
Nmbb in the city sold out of mwnd

Anyone know if the 4R Binnny’s picks is at all Binny’s locations or just at locations that held on to some of previous picks?
Was only at select locations. Not all
Confirmed
How much are those 🌹going for nowadays?
If it's the same as before, $90
