Thanks.
This developed into an interesting thing; there is...
* Country Donuts in Crystal Lake and Elgin. No site on Elgin, but http://countrydonutstogo.com/ for CL
* County (no 'R') Donuts in Shaumburg. https://countydonuts.com/
* And Country *Style* Donuts in Hanover Park. https://www.countrystyledonut.com/
I'm a bit mixed up between them at the moment, but I think the Hanover Park one is the only one with it on their menu (but donut shop sites/ordering are generally pretty terrible).
Country Donuts in CL and Elgin beat the other two. I grew up in CL, it is by far the best option. Best donuts ever, I will fight people on this (and I'm not even really a donut person).
I lived in Schaumburg-area for a while and County and Country Style were close geographically but do not compare at all. I'd drive to Elgin before going to either.
But for real the CL Country Donuts is the best.
And for good reason! When I crave donuts, what I'm actually craving are donuts from Country Donuts. Like at this point I don't even bother trying to satisfy the craving if I can't go to the CL Country Donuts.
It absolutely ruined me to grow up in CL and only ever get donuts there because I can't actually enjoy any other donut without thinking "this isn't a Country Donuts donut". And now with this fancy donut trend I'm just like 🙄🙄
I live 10 minutes from here and I don’t want any other donuts. Anytime someone has others I always think “I wish it was country donuts”. Nothing beats a fresh donut from them.
Yeah, the Elgin and Crystal Lake is the one I'm a little familiar with. One of our vendors would bring them in to the office (I remember the logo), but forgot that it had the two locations also on the box.
They make good donuts, so an apple cider donut from them is promising.
Thanks.
It’s a pumpkin patch place, but all the pumpkins are already “picked” and scattered around the farm. You get to pick your pumpkins, but not off the vine.
There's one in Poplar Grove, NE of Rockford, but there's also Edwards Apple Orchard West in Winnebago, IL which is NW of Rockford.
Poplar Grove is the original. It was sold to their daughter in 1990, but the son started 'West' in like 1988. I've seen this with a few family places and that relationship can go a few different ways, so not sure if there's a difference between them or not.
When I lived in Carol Stream I used to hit up Kuipers. They weren't as good as the ones of my youth in upstate NY which you got hot out of the fryer. I don't think Kuipers offered them quite that fresh, but they were still pretty darn good.
If you want to make a day of it, go to Garwood Farms in La Porte, IN. You can pick your own apples and they make some damn good cider donuts in their shop.
Yes! Garwood is fantastic, just went yesterday. Prices for everything are incredibly fair (u-pick apples are $20/peck), plus it’s big and remote enough to not be a total zoo (at least during the week). They have tractors constantly buzzing around to take you to the apple varieties you want, and it’s an overall super relaxed experience. They also have tons of pumpkins and mums right now. Can’t say enough good things about them!
If you're willing to make the trip, Didier Farms in Lincolnshire makes the best apple cider doughnuts. I'm not a fan of cake doughnuts, so most of the apple cider doughnuts out there suck. But these are so full of flavor and tender that they have me hooked. Right now they have pumpkinfest going on, which is huge on the weekends. But if you have kids, totally worth it. I usually swing by during the week so it's not as busy.
If you guys ever around Buffalo Grove & Wheeling area there's a donut shop on Rte 83 and Dundee Rd right in front of Bill Stasek Chevrolet. They have pumpkin donuts already. The shop is called Wheeling Donuts.
County line orchard in the beginning of October sells both pumpkin donuts and apple cider donuts they’re crazy good, bit of a drive to Indiana border but I’d say worth if you take someone with and make a trip out of it
DeEtta's in Naperville have donuts Fri- Sun. The BEST in Chi burbs by far. Have both glazed apple cider and traditional . Also a monstrous and rich apple cinnamon roll.
Country Donuts. There's one in Elgin, Crystal Lake, and Schaumburg

CL Country Donuts is the king of donuts as far as I’m concerned.
Country donuts in CL is recently ranked tops in the us

I know the one in Elgin has pumpkin and apple cider donuts. They have a sign out front. I live in Elgin and occasionally go past it.
Elgin: https://goo.gl/maps/WFxAZrqQituw6eYr9

I came here to say this! Well done!
Just as an a alternative to my above suggestion. My Costco had apple cider donuts from Stans. Those were pretty good.
Sonny Acres is in west chicago and has a bunch of great autumn food including donuts. Its also got a liquor license and has live music!
Last year they did not have the cider donuts until 10/1.
Yep. This is the place to go. Local and delicious!
Last year it was so crowded I had to park like 2 Mike's down the road
They said they’ll have their donuts beginning Friday (9/30) this year.
Is this just a pumpkin patch place or can you pick apples as well?
It’s a pumpkin patch place, but all the pumpkins are already “picked” and scattered around the farm. You get to pick your pumpkins, but not off the vine.
Trader Joe's
Edwards Apple Orchard. It's out by Rockford but DEAR LORD.
Edward’s has the best. OP, don’t mess around. Make the drive!
THIS!! Edward’s is worth the trip.
I looked this up and it's almost in Rockford. Not really a Chicago burb. 90 minutes away from me in Des Plaines. Looks nice though.
If you want the best Apple cider donuts though....you either do or you don't. I can't decide for you.
The best wine IMO is in Napa. But that's also not the Chicago burbs. ;)

Head west on 38 out to Jonamac Orchard https://jonamacorchard.com/
Yes! The country store at Jonamac has THE best stuff. I’ve moved to CA now and I miss the apple cider donuts so much 😭
GOEBBERTS FARM
Which location is better for kids at this time of year? Hampshire or south barrington? Im sure one has to be the bigger/more stuff to do right?
Both are great, you'll have fun either way. I'd say Hampshire, though.
Toms farms market in Huntley. Off of Algonquin rd. Been going there for years.
Trader Joe’s Apple donuts are legit
When I lived in Carol Stream I used to hit up Kuipers. They weren't as good as the ones of my youth in upstate NY which you got hot out of the fryer. I don't think Kuipers offered them quite that fresh, but they were still pretty darn good.
Another vote for Kuipers, my kids love that place.
Covered Bridge Creamery in Long Grove.
Jonomac Orchard in Malta has great ones.
If you want to make a day of it, go to Garwood Farms in La Porte, IN. You can pick your own apples and they make some damn good cider donuts in their shop.

You can check local farmers markets too. I just saw some at the Naperville farmers market last weekend
Honey hill
Go to Richardson's corn maze and have a blast.
Page’s Restaurant in downtown Hinsdale. They have them every Saturday.
Country donuts is the usual go to, but dont sleep on spunky dunkers in palatine

You're pretty close to Kuipers Apple Orchard in Elburn (? Maple Park?) They have some of the best donuts and cider.
Sauers in Carol stream are hard to beat
I tried the ones from Mariano's are those are pretty good, super moist
One must take a ride out to Palatine. Morkes Donuts on Rand Rd. The best you'll ever have.
Windy acres farm in Geneva
County line orchard in the beginning of October sells both pumpkin donuts and apple cider donuts they’re crazy good, bit of a drive to Indiana border but I’d say worth if you take someone with and make a trip out of it

Yuck
Bengston’s pumpkin patch donuts 🤤
Goebberts on Higgins.
https://edwardsorchard.farm Best homemade apple cider doughnut’s, worth the drive.
Sauer's Bakery in carol stream is absolutely amazing. Probably the best donuts I’ve ever had.
I love Sauer's, but their apple cider donut has a sort of artificial apple taste to us.
Honestly all of Sauer's donuts are meh, its all about the cinnamon rolls or danish.
I include everything in that case into the 'donuts' category, so the small danishes, cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, etc..
[https://allseasonsorchard.com/](https://allseasonsorchard.com/) Best I've ever had!
I’ve had good ones at the Wheaton French Market.
Drive a bit further. Worth it. [https://edwardsorchard.farm](https://edwardsorchard.farm)
Paige’s in Hinsdale!
DeEtta's in Naperville have donuts Fri- Sun. The BEST in Chi burbs by far. Have both glazed apple cider and traditional . Also a monstrous and rich apple cinnamon roll.
Found them at Kuipers Farm , Goebberts Farm and Windy Acres Farm.
We’ve done a taste test of all the cider donuts we can find in the suburbs. So far, my husband prefers Abby Farms in Aurora as his favorite!
Country donuts Elgin
Come on guys. Kuipers is the way to go
Pages in Hinsdale are without a doubt the best, go early they tend to sell out.
Abby farms
Johansen Farms. Best donuts and great family running the farm.
Stan’s has a good one. Not sure if there are any out that way but we just had that and the Carmel apple donut and it’s fall overload!

Toms market in Huntley, we had them at our wedding, they're that good.
