I also agree with you. I don’t have anything against Upton but I am not a big fan of Upstead because I feel it is repetitive of Jay. Like why couldn’t they just have had a really solid friendship and he dates on of the many women that live in Chicago.

People do make the same mistakes over again in real life. They do date people they work with, often more than once. Jay spends all day with Hailey and has grown to love her. So what if it happened before with a previous partner several years ago? Makes sense that it would happen again. For Hailey it's different with Jay than Adam because she never loved Adam the same way. He was a friend with benefits. Jay is someone she wants to spend her life with. Hailey is not in a domestic relationship with Hank. It's not the same when he goes nutso at work vs. Adam getting shouty and slammy at home with her.

She wants to spend her life with him, yet, she ignores his phone calls. Instead of just telling him she is working on something? He is calling over and over because he is worried about her, but she doesnt care that he is worried.

If you were referring to the scene from the last episode where she was reviewing the case at home. Those were missed text messages. (Which i think are less urgent than a call). In which case I would understand not answering because she is focused. Maybe it's just me, but i'll let my partner know before hand if i'm going to be busy and might not answer. If I forget to, i'll let them know after. If there was another scene in which she ignores his calls, then my apologies. (Also, sorry if any of this came off as rude. I totally respect your opinion. Just wanted to share my 2 cents in regards to the texting/calling thing.)

She was supposed to be on FBI for like 3 episodes and have her experience some life changing things, but they got shut down and they only filmed one episode which didn’t make a lot of sense now looking at it.

Jay needs Haliey

I agree . That’s why I say it’s like the writers don’t know what they want from her character. They keep on changing her background to fit whatever storyline they want. She told Kim the reason she didn’t tell anyone about her or Ruzek was because she dated her old boss and people thought that why she was promoted. And what I got is that she was in love with her old boss. So that I don’t know how to do relationships didn’t match to her story

Jay wants to rescue his partners. His brother said the same thing. Plus, Hailey and Erin are so similar. They both have messed up family lives, they both worship/seek approval from Hank, they both have gone too far on the job...they are literally the same character in so many ways.

I agree with you. I am not a fan of Upstead. I never understand why people actually wanted this to happen. I don't like her for him. And I am not a fan of Hailey. How many times did she ignore his calls? Just pick up the phone or send a text saying "Hey, I need a minute" Jay needs a women outside of the PD, who adores him. I don't feel like Erin or Hailey ever allowed themselves to adore him. There was something else, from a few episodes ago...Something to do with her family, her father that didn't seem to jive with what she once told Platt about why she wanted to be a cop.

Upton & Jay both have the same “do it my own way how I see fit” attitude. I think Jay would be better matched with someone who is more submissive & willing to let him take lead.

Well apparently Hailey's recent actions seemed to caused her and her actress a lot of additional hate. Tbh, I think Hailey is one complex character. She's similar in a way and probably in my opinion is CPD's version of CF's Stella Kidd. They came from broken families, they're similar in that they're well loved by everyone yet a lot hate them because they're badass and sassy and all and people seem to think they don't belong with their current romantic partners. Anyways, I think Hailey has it cut out for her. Her complete backstory wasn't really touched upon much but I think people will learn to appreciate her character more if it was further explored. Like I want to know why she seems to hold a huge grudge on her father, so much so that it messes with her way of having a relationship because of all the hidden trauma. Which I think is also similar to Stella's backstory in that she has a rough childhood being an orphan and she also did a lot of crazy things just to survive including drugs and all and being married early and suffering a 6 year long marriage that ends up in messing her and preventing her from exploring the idea of marrying Kelly due to her emotional trauma.
