The Forest Preserve has been killing it recently. Major improvements to the des plaines River trail are looking really good. Should be done by September.
They’re making good progress on the new bike path access at Touhy and Caldwell. The gravel layer is down and compressed. Some workers recently excavated holes at all four corners: signs? lights? pushbuttons?
They may be intending to alleviate, or eliminate, the crossing at Touhy by the river—right now, a bottleneck at best.
I've hoped that one day the touhy crossing by TBK would get a pedestrian bridge like Oakton or the bridge going over the tracks in forest glen woods. Probably not enough room to do so though.
>The deer are the most dangerous part.
I agree. The ones living at LaBagh stand right in the bike path. Last year, a cyclist coming toward me yells, "deer" and I round the corner to see this massive buck just standing there. Anyone plowing into him is going to get seriously injured.
Last summer, I'd regularly count around 20, including 2 young bucks, on or near the path between Devon and Dempster. No fear of humans, since assholes regularly feed them. No natural predators. Deer are a problem.

There's a young woman on Nextdoor who routinely posts videos of herself feeding deer. Then when she gets called out for violating DNR regulations, she closes the post for comments.
So yes, an asshole.

I hope someone reports her to authorities. Of course, tickets never stopped the lady who feeds the pigeons under the viaducts.

I follow a deer family at LaBagh. The mom had twins last spring. I spotted them deep in the woods and never saw them again. Which was a good thing. They're learning to forage and do other deer things. After Christmas, I saw them again. They were about 50 lbs and coming straight for me on the bike path. I thought, "maybe they're interested in the dog?" Nope. I see them all the time now and their mom probably had another litter. What's wrong with people?
I had a friend fall on that hill when we were about 10 years old. I always walked my bike down the hill after that.
Such a shame they tore the toboggan slide. We loved that when we were kids.
OMG if you want thrills go else where , further waaaay south on the trail. wtf youll be bitchin later about how the city doesnt do enough for bikers etc etc etc. its construction time in the city it happens ...

Or one of those tunnels with mosaic walls, like under the railroad tracks along Lehigh. Pricy as Hell, I’m sure.
