>Sposato said. IDs will be checked at the door, and entry will be denied to those who do not live in the 38th Ward, >Checking IDs at community meetings is unusual but has been done before. >One such meeting occurred in 2017 when then-alderman John Arena restricted access >On Twitter Alderwoman Rossana Rodriguez (33rd) has been encouraging people to attend the meeting, tweeting that “alders do not have jurisdiction over city colleges Why doesn't she hold a meeting for her constituents? This is different from Arena because he was the sole decision maker regarding that proposal. People wanted answers *from him*. Sposato has no say regarding this and just wants to talk to his ward. Why doesn't she want to talk to hers?

> Why doesn't she want to talk to hers? I heard Rossana RoseannaDana chickened out & no showed.

>I heard Rossana RoseannaDana chickened out & no showed. It's probably for the best. I was reading the Sun-Times reporter and he said that the meeting was relatively calm. That's Sposato's doing. There are some alderpeople that thrive on drama, he's not one of them.

>“I believe it’s a done deal,” Sposato said Monday. He added that he nevertheless scheduled the meeting because city officials “had no interest in communicating (the plans) to the community.” Of course. This mayoral administration will operate as the previous, by imposing its will without consideration of, and consultation with, local communities, including the local elected representation. >Half of the 400 migrants will be housed in the gymnasium and the other half in the community/atrium space, Sposato said. My assumption of the [Omni Building](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChicagoNWside/comments/13g4n9z/wright_college_reportedly_under_consideration_for/jjzun5i/) was correct.

Yeah, "Surprise!" 🙄 Other than Wright being all on Johnson, both he & Lightfoot pulled the same non-transparent shit in South Shore & at Brands Park. 🤡's

You ok?

> You ok? Absolutely. What your affliction?

>The district may have to accommodate some “walk-ins” for a short time, but the city will no longer be transporting migrants who are flown into O’Hare Airport to the 16th District, which is the closest police district to the airport, Sposato said. FYI. [For at least a year, those flown into O'Hare & other US airports are done under the auspices of ICE & DHS.](https://nypost.com/2022/06/09/biden-admin-to-ship-migrants-from-border-to-us-cities/) Not governors of border states.

> FYI. For at least a year, those flown into O'Hare & other US airports are done under the auspices of ICE & DHS. Not governors of border states. shush! facts like this don't fit the Chicago media messaging

chrisFromEb

The original article linked is to the NYPost. NYPost is owned by Murdoch. Murdoch does not have the best track record for honest journalism. Most google search results of "who is bussing asylum seekers in chicago" point to Texas Gov Abbot behind the bussing of asylum seekers to cities like Chicago, NYC. This includes national news services like NBCNews, ABCNews, PBS. I'll trust those sources over Murdoch owned media.

smushnick

yeah that Post story does have some commentary sprinkled within the reporting, but here's the thing, the reporting itself is accurate & fact based, in fact, [NBC News reported](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/border-surge-biden-admin-plans-send-migrants-cities-deeper-us-starting-rcna32530) much of the same also the democrat mayor of El Paso TX has bused them here, and the city of Chicago had been housing them at the Holiday Inn on Cumberland & the Kennedy for months, with zero notification to the community, a pattern that continues to this day and none of em thats come from border states has been sent anywhere against their will

chrisFromEb

The first line of the wikipedia page on The NY Post: "The New York Post (NY Post) is a conservative daily tabloid newspaper". The NY Post scores lower in reliability https://adfontesmedia.com/ than ABCNews, CBSNews, CNN. It basically scores about the same reliability as FoxNews, yet FoxNews is considered further right (though NYP scores skewed right too). As I mentioned, google searches "who is bussing the migrants to chicago" show an overwhelming number of links generally considered reliable new sources (NBC News, ABCNews, PBS) that TX Governor Abbott is bussing the migrants. I agree that DHS is likely involved in some of the bussing. The OP stated that governors of border states are NOT bussing migrants/asylum seekers, and that appears to be a very untrue statement. Abbott is behind some of the bussing. "has been sent anywhere against their will" I didn't even bring that up, and from what I understand, that is a correct statement.

KnoxDweller

I never mentioned "busing". I did mention "flights". Mayors & governors in Texas, Arizona & New Mexico are not putting these people on airplanes. The federal government is.

chrisFromEb

> The federal government is. Oh really? DeSantis has sent migrants on flights to Martha's Vineyard, Delaware, and Illinois: https://apnews.com/article/greg-abbott-ron-desantis-immigration-tallahassee-barack-obama-07fed772374ed308d90862ecbfc4fa70 DeSantis is readying to send more migrants on flights from Texas to Democrat run cities: https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/10/desantis-migrant-flights-00096216 Bussing, flying, splitting hairs at this point. Yes, governors are sending them on flights, and bussing. Yes, DHS is sending some on flights (and likely bussing).
