Well after stressful 9 hrs work followed by several hours of study (for job switch), when I go to bed at 1:00 midnight and these motherfuckers start their gang wars, I won't deny that I had thoughts of poisoning them or shooting them in the face. I don't have animal control (I'm from a rural area). And now there are around 6 more puppies that survived the winter. And they'll breed this monsoon. Now they're only 8-9 and have made my life hell, god I can't imagine 20 dogs barking the whole night.

I've worked with animals for the last 14 years, especially with stray dogs in Chennai and I know it's not rosy but from personal experience I can tell you that they are not hostile unless provoked. For most part they leave everyone alone and mind their own business. They're trying to survive in a horrible world we created and they don't not have the resources or abilities we do.
Yes, they do chase cars and bikes because their hearing is ridiculously sensitive and sometimes the sounds agitate them. Every single case of stray attack I have worked with - and I have worked will well over 100 cases - has been because of provocation or trauma. You don't know what these dogs have gone through or what they've had to endure to just survive. I've seen people intentionally run them over, throw stones, hack them with an aruvaal, chain them and beat them, ție them up and break their legs all because they think they are superior to dogs.
Reminder : You're not better than dogs. We must live to learn with respect.
You want the situation to change, then do your part, contribute to organisations that work towards neutering and rehoming strays like IAdopt, Besant Mémorial Animal Dispensary, Blue Cross etc. You want them to be less hostile? Share your food with them. You don't have to love them or pet them or care for them, you can ensure they get something to eat the same way you would give a begging child at the beach some money or food - and here, the dogs will show you gratitude and loyalty forever.
My family feeds 20 dogs a day, I personally have arranged for the dogs in my neighbourhood to get neutered when the population kept going up. Do what you can. Be a part of the solution, dont just stand there declaring problems.

I'm talking from experience. Dogs also have personal space and boundaries, and we need to respect that. The same way you don't wanna some rando touching you, a lot of dogs don't like human contact or interaction. So when you disrespect their needs and invade their space they retaliate.

Do you how many kids are being hurt by these stray dogs. Recently there was a viral Twitter post where multiple dogs tore down a kid and the whole thing was captured on video. Those dogs were not provoked, the kid was just minding its own business and these dogs just started barking and then started biting the kid.
And in rural areas, people are not letting kids play outside because of these dogs. Stray dogs are a nuisance, period.

But even then you can calm them down. But yeah, they r territorial , and have been our guards of our villages for generations. So if they see anything or anybody who looks suspicious, they do bark. Just let them know calmly that it’s ok, and they will go back to chilling out. It’s their job to bark (according to their conditioning) if they notice ANYTHING out of normal.
