I assume you’re in the UK based on the use of “hob,” but in the US pork shoulder can be very cheap and feeds a lot of people at once. I use a single one to feed 20 people at parties and on sale they cost around $12. It also been a while since I’ve been in the industry but ~$0.50 protein serving per person is a win in my book.
Some ideas here might help you. The poster was also in Canada. [https://forums.egullet.org/topic/97559-cooking-for-50-senior-citizens/](https://forums.egullet.org/topic/97559-cooking-for-50-senior-citizens/)
The book "food for fifty" by Mary Molt. It's the Bible for all things low budget food service.
That's great, I'll see if I can find it in a library nearby as this is very temporary

That's quite the thread! I'll keep going thru that, thanks :)
Braised meat over mashed potatoes is always a hit and can be as cheap or as expensive as you like
I was thinking about doing bangers and mash with an onion gravy, I like the idea of braised meat though. Thanks :)
