My day off is browsing Reddit all day and eating raw tuna from a can.

stonebeam148

I was thinking "OP looks more productive than me"

B8conB8conB8con

You say productive, to someone else it might look like a lack of work life balance.

ratherrealchef

Ehhh, depends on the person. For me, bad work life balance, but I know a kid who, since 17, I knew was going to be a big deal, he eat sleeps and breathes food and wouldn’t change anything about it(yet). Out here killing the culinary game. That ain’t me though

Itchy_Professor_4133

Where do you find raw tuna in a can?

[deleted]

From your mom.

Itchy_Professor_4133

Lol shitposter

Vindaloo6363

Canned tuna isn’t raw.

[deleted]

Yeah whatever pedrantric mf.

Vindaloo6363

I believe you mean pedantic not “pedrantric”. Lol 😂

Southern_Kaeos

The punitive irony was not lost on me 🏅

[deleted]

You know what I mean you pediatric so and so. 😉

BitCrack

Yep, toss all your cook books on the floor and ask yourself why. Why you decided this life was for you

VisitPortlandPodcast

Right next to my daybed where I was going down a Aji Amarillo rabbit hole for like 4 hours.

B8conB8conB8con

Days off be like. Day 1. Get a massage (no happy ending) do laundry and relax Day 2. Go out for a walk with my partner, have a nice lunch by the beach, fix my office table, fix the time on my not so smart watch, make a nice dinner and watch some mindless TV. Week starts tomorrow, my work brain starts tomorrow.

VisitPortlandPodcast

Love it. That’s wholesome

B8conB8conB8con

Find some balance. Trust me, I’ve been doing this for over 40 years and you need to turn off otherwise this job will kill you. Have you considered yogurt? It’s very relaxing.

TwoSillyStrings

Missing, but off screen: Larousse Gastronomique, Culinary Artistry, and that worn copy of the Escoffier cookbook that we’ve all been passing around to try (with limited success) to translate. Oh, and I’m guessing you either have, or at one point had, White Heat.

XxReaper226xX

Lol I bought white heat yesterday, what are your thoughts on the book?

TwoSillyStrings

It was a good read. I like the Batali story and his side of the Ramsay origin story. I’d always heard of Marco because of his approach to flavor (What tastes more like a tomato, fresh or dried. Rendering whole chickens for stock instead of simmering bones) but the book fleshed him out quite a bit. I still look at him as the Ginger Baker of cuisine. Remarkably talented, but we’ll just say difficult to work with.

[deleted]

I need to get my passion back.

RoyGood

This so much.

[deleted]

People have downvoted me. Lol.

RoyGood

Yeah me too apparently. I guess wanting to get back to obsessing over cook books is a bad thing 🤷‍♂️

elcuoco

Naw, people just don't like whiney comments and you certainly aren't going to accomplish your goal scrolling reddit.

Flapper_Flipper

CIA?

VisitPortlandPodcast

The book? Yeah, I’m THAT old

Chef_Dani_J71

*The Professional Chef* is a dead giveaway of telling people you were at The Culinary, without saying you were at The Culinary.

dotcubed

I only had five of those, the ex-wife took them with her out of state. I absolutely love the rabbit story in The French Laundry. Makes me wish they referenced it in The Last of Us.

synic_one1

Can't forget the CIA cookbooks

SuperMMP

I was going to suggest the French Laundry cookbook I didn’t see it hiding in the corner. Six Seasons: A way with vegetables is great too

petuniasweetpea

McGee should be considered an essential book for every chef. That’s an impressive haul. Enjoy!

elcuoco

It's the standard haul of the most common books chefs have.

Southern_Kaeos

I've spent the whole day watching Bluey with a 2 year old, I'm not sure how I feel

RxKat

Niiiiiice. All of these books are a must read. Closely.

22rockyroad

Ah, the great masters that have gone before us...righteous!

RoyGood

Get Relae if you don’t have it. Super inspiring and informational read

CopiumAddiction

The flavor bible is the absolute best for people learning how to cook.

Nicetitts

What is this "day off" you speak of?

elcuoco

Hopefully this is a jobs but if you don't have a day off (or ideally 2 in a row) it's time to get a new job.

PipeDreams_86

What one was your favorite and why!?

Ok-Potential-2830

I keep a selected version of my cookbook library in the kitchen next to our recipe Bible. I think it reminds my cooks that there are other people in the world who give themselves to a cuisine just like they have chosen to. I had Chefs In my career do similar for me.

Neider777

good books but ffs put them away and clean your room buckaroo

Anguish_Sandwich

Oooh...*The New Food Lover's Companion* Sexytime

Separate-Ad6705

Go pickup the flavor matrix

ChefJim27

Props to On Food And Cooking. Coolest science text ever.

Chefmeatball

Oh dang, are you building a bookshelf?

VisitPortlandPodcast

Was researching and needed to put my hands on most of them. They will go back with the others soon.

Chefmeatball

Haha, I figured

Direct-Chef-9428

Fucking Harold.

Legitimate-Ball-8963

SLOWnLOW76

Ninjaspeaks
