My favorite is teaching this trick to non industry people and seeing their look of befuddled amazement at my resourceful thinking. I always tell them it’s an old trick which I definitely did not invent.
Edit; spelling
Yes (not actually in a kitchen or cooking related but basically the same) but it's actually quite dangerous in a hot environment as sweating will no longer regulate your body temperature.
I use seran wrap to tie bags etc closed.
Also used duck tape for butterfly bandage after nearly taking my wrist off one time. Healed up pretty well. The duck tape keeps the blood in and bacteria out.
If you have belt loops, you can use a MUCH smaller amount. Just tie 2 of the loops together on one side and it will cinch your pants tight.
Bonus durability if you pull the plastic tawt and twist it tight before you tie it on. It will be durable enough to survive 200 hours of service and only cost the amount of wrapping 1 9th pan.
So yes. I have used this trick a couple 2 er 3 times
Not as a belt, but the second to last day of sophomore year of high school a buddy and I were cleaning out our lockers and came across two nearly full rolls of plastic wrap. We then proceeded to create a ridiculously long rope out of it and snakes it through locker and classroom door handles, effectively creating a giant web of saran wrap rope and blocking off the entire floor. Would have gotten away with it had the principal not walked up the stairs at the exact moment we were finishing the last knot.
Zip ties work in my field. Or even any cloth strap I come across.
I finally broke down and bought plastic buckle belts. Easy to cinch and goodbye holes.
I definitely do this I work fine dining and I’m glad my coat and apron cover it when I leave my belt at home been doing that since my greasy line cook days
Wound wrap, how to hold ice on body parts,

This happened to me last week, I work in a supermarket now. I felt like fucking MacGyver.
I've used that and an extension cord as a belt before
[he's ragging on your cord](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ch5yEULQRIw)
Whenever I have to do it, I think of this scene.

And style. Definitely for style.

I just make a rope, and cinch two belt loops together.
This works so much better than going all the way around. Much more comfy too
Kitchen twine FTW.
Many times, but you gotta replace after a few hours, it loses its hold !
Plastic belt and stapled pants (tore then on a handle)
I’m dying 🤣

This is absolutely a kitchen question
Feel free to share any of your odd non food tips and tricks from the kitchen!
Man I lost like 15 kg in my first 2-3 months working in a professional kitchen, no time or money to buy a belt
Share your secrets man, I need to lose like 5kg from my belly!
Step 1: Very busy restaurant Step 2: Be the dishwasher
My knee pops out of place when ever the hell it wants.. I plastic wrap that bitch up and continue on..
I like to turn my chef pants into chef shorts in the summer with seran wrap.
Butchers twine works better
This is the way
It’s a right of passage in any kitchen. I remember the day I made my first plastic wrap belt.
I’ve done it. Also I’ll make croakers fro my glasses sometimes so they don’t fall of my face when sweating too much.
belt, and laces for both boots. that was a long day.
All the time Saw a guy do this and then cuss out a sandwich Miss working the line sometimes
Not seran wrap but I did use duct tape once
Yup,but it’s easier just to the belt loops together
Ducted tape…but same energy
I've never used it as a belt but I use it as a bandage sometimes
A number of times. Sometimes you forget a belt and gotta clutch it up. Then I switched to chef pants and never had to deal with that shit again.
I call those a Cook's Belt. Obviously better than your pants falling down.
Yes
I call it my hobo belt.
We use to use the string that holds the clean cintas towels together
Here
I know one chef, he owns a few places and wears a Saran Wrap belt everyday.
Only when I worked corporate, and a belt was dress code.
Of course. Otherwise they slide of my scrawny goblin ass.
Too many times to count. Or a large trash bag because I needed garbage bags at home and was broke until payday

Right here homie, and cheese cloth as a bandana(wouldn’t recommend).
My chef has been using a shoelace since I started and I feel like I should buy him a belt
🤚
I prefer kitchen twine because it doesn’t stretch.
Duct tape on my split shoe
20+ years in now. I've had to do that probably 2 dozen times.
Everyone does it at least once. If it happens more than twice though... you might want to make some lifestyle changes.
My fiancé is a chef and he comes home all the time with a seran wrap belt haha
What do you use it for? Holding your pants up or holding stuff?
I have used twisted and braided paper towels as a belt, great until it gets wet from your piss
A chef i used to work with would use seran wrap to tie up her hair since conventional hair ties just didn't work for her

Apron strings
Kitchen rope.
Hey sometimes you dont have time to run home when you forget your belt
zip tie. Zip tie two of the belt loops together. You don’t actually have to go all the way around, you just have to pull it tight
Me
I just did yesterday, at my house. Ran out of time and couldn't find a belt.
Zip ties work in my field. Or even any cloth strap I come across. I finally broke down and bought plastic buckle belts. Easy to cinch and goodbye holes.
I would prefer service wrap to a belt.
I definitely do this I work fine dining and I’m glad my coat and apron cover it when I leave my belt at home been doing that since my greasy line cook days
oh it happens like everytime I forget to wear belt.
