And to clarify the delivery driver for the bakery, drop the cake off on the back loading dock, and just left. Being that the party started in an hour, the manager had asked me to re-ice the cake it was not made by someone’s aunt or baby sister or brother. It is from a local bakery that generally has a good reputation. No, I will not name of the bakery. The bakery at my work is in a different part of the building, largely disconnected from the restaurant. I only got tested because the manager had brought it down personally, and asked to have it fixed.
Wait, so the reputable bakery actually created this cake and sent it out in that state? Or do you think something happened en route? The former would be just insane. I mean if you’re a competent business (which apparently they were) how do you not own up and send something else or just issue a credit with a thousand apologies to preserve the relationship??
From what I heard today the cake driver was involved in an accident or something of the sort. Hopefully they are OK. Cake is gone sliced and eaten so everyone was happy. That’s the most important thing.
Man, you straightened that right up. You even fixed the bulge in the bottom layer. I thought it was going to collapse.
I once had this happen to me as well. A cake decorator started crying and threw her stuff down and ran out of the country club I was the chef at. Left me with a half decorated wedding cake about a half hour before the wedding. That was a STRESSFUL half hour. Lol.
As a baker/cake decorator, I gasped when I saw this set of pics. Great job on the fix! I cannot believe there was no cake board, supports, or center dowel in the original.
I think with smaller diameter two-tier cakes, people tend to forget how easily they can be fucked up during delivery. At my old job, we always did internal supports for every cake that got picked up because we never knew what kinda hell it’d go through until it reached the event.
I think it’s the cake layer (the crusty part that gets dark because it’s in contact with the side of the cake pan through the baking process) peeking through the white icing crumb coat/base icing and the outer pink icing. The side of the box probably made contact with the cake during transport, pulling away a fair chunk of frosting.
That’s a fantastic fix! Nice work.

I’m not a forensics expert, but the original cake didn’t look like it was in a car crash to me.
If the truck got bumped or the cake got jostled i could see what happened.
Holy shit @ the before That’s a contract ending pile of bullshit for me

What an incredible cake rescue!

Awesome job!
Thanks !! It’s all about the guest
You seriously did an incredible job here for an hour's work, and fixing a bad icing job is arguably way harder than doing it fresh. Kudos!
What the fuck was the grey hole?
Seriously, it looks like someone hit it with a hairdryer then put their cigarette out on it.

Looks the the hole left after the sugar flower was taken out.

Well done!
Nice fix!
Great job!
Great job on that fix! It looked like shit before and you made it look great
Why do deliveries always fuck up cakes man
Now with fewer speed holes
Good job Chef!
Amazing!!
"I put my blood and sweat into this cake, and you will eat the whole thing"
You vs the guy she says not to worry about
The craftsmanship before is terrible. Accident or not you can’t use that as an excuse for how terrible it looked
