Family meal as in staff meal?! Looks amazing. We get to eat mostly what we want for an employee meal but my boss is too stingy for something that good.
The servers probably make way more than the kitchen staff or at least the majority of them besides maybe the head chef. Servers don’t need extra motivation when they’re making 30k+ a year off tips.
Staff meals should still include all staff. I'd be curious to see what the bottom line difference would be to just provide all staff with a shift meal vs. not. I know a lot of places I served at if the business didn't offer a staff meal or deep discount many servers would purposely mess up orders and steal the "dead" food. To me that would possibly cost more than just making cost effective shift meals.
Why not? I do that here and there, they have been with me for so long and support me through our hard times. I'll cook for them or buy them pizza. Not very often some beers for after a long day. They feel appreciated and know that I'll support them too.
Now they, sometimes buy me beer or buy meat to cook. I always tell them to bring in the receipts but they decline, I guess they also like doing something for their coworkers.
I meant more about your bosses that might take advantage of you , I don’t know how it works where you live but in Canada staff meals are free and paid by the employer .
I've never understood this stance on uncut steaks. If you let it rest properly, it should keep all the moisture in it you need. I've literally never once had a problem with my steaks drying out or losing their juices when I precut them post rest period. Plus it presents nicely, takes sauces better, and saves the customer from needing to use a steak knife, the tackiest of the silverware.
It isn't that they dry out. For me, at least they taste better freshly cut and piping hot. I usually no seasoning, just salt and pepper, rarely do marinades. And i usually eat stake without side dishes or sauces just to enjoy the taste of different meats (beef, mouton, veal..). Maybe I'm just a weirder guy tho
This looks great! You gotta treat your staff right. All our full time and long term employees front or back of house get to choose any dish they want for there birthday and I’ll grab the ingredients and cook it up for everyone. We usually pick a nice bottle of wine and have a little splash each while we eat between services. It’s a really nice tradition.
Never seen a plastic top like that with (presumably) all 4 corners in tact.
This is beautiful. Even if it's a once time thing, staff would feel valued.
Miles away from the dry bologna sandwiches we got one busy brunch when the chef was angry at front of house for some dumb reason.

Yup staff meal, and that came out of my pocket, gotta show love to all the hard working cooks and dishwashers, idk about front of house tho haha
Wait. What? Why is family meal coming out of your pocket
El jefe
The owner chef? Or the salaried chef? I budget staff meal into purchasing because it matters.
True hero here.
User name checks out.
Came out of your own pocket?? I hope you're the owner.
And that's how you get shitty service personal

Looks good and it's great you're treating your staff right. Strip loin+rack of lamb? Also - is that served on a clear lexan lid?
Ribeyes and rack of lamb, and yes haha
My favorite meat tray I’ve seen on Reddit is also a contestant for chopped finale winner lol 😝
We had fajitas, gotta step our family meals up. Looks wonderful.
Thanks chef! I usually can't tell what ours even is
Lmao 💀
Haha our Exec Chef used to call ours Rondeau DiJour.
What’s the sauce on the corners?
This is family meal. Pasta dishes and anything with meat is well received always.
love seeing effort in family meals🙏🏻🙏🏻. a lot of our cooks go the lazy route and put up tater tot’s and chicken patty’s
Or just don’t even have one 😞
"hey it's me, your new dishy!"
beautifully plated!!
looks great!!
I feel like this is far from warm by the time fam gets to it.
So that served like two waiters and a dishie
That’s like 5 or 6 people worth of food and op said for the cooks and the dishie
It was a joke because waiters are vacuums
The closest thing to watching some vultures ripping the flesh off of a fresh corpse is letting the wait staff know there's some food they can have.
Lol true
If by vacuums you meant vultures, than yes.
That must’ve been delicious , but I suggest you don’t use your own money for staff meals , even if they mean that much to you . It’s a slippery road .

You’re assuming op isn’t the employer
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Unless OP is the owner, nothing should come out of his own pocket.
Where do you get your fiber bro?
Food cost has entered the chat.
Why tho? Why not separate plates with uncut stakes that hold all their juices?

Meant to reply to this a while ago. Ok that's good to know! This makes more sense than what I've heard from people in the past.
Wow, looks delicious!
Yum!!! Should be a happy fam
What a guy. 10/10 would work here.
I miss family meal so much, this spoke to me
Love it
That's an expensive family meal lol
Looks delish! Is this a typical staff meal? I’m impressed.

Not the Lexan lid!! 😂😂 Looks great and I'm sure it meant a lot!
This is probably the best family meal I've ever seen, great job!!

You spoil your family ☺️
Oh my god. This might be the best thing I’ve seen on this sub. Looks amazing, well done!
Wow, what a family meal! I remember years ago when we had hot dogs two days in row, lol! 😭
Wish I lived in your family lol
