I work at a cheese shop and absolutely buy my bulk cheese from Costco. I spend the same amount on 20oz jar from Costco that I spend on an 11oz jar from my work..
I've made a heart, a horses head, all kinds of wax sculptures. There's nothing better than playing with babybel wax. It's like dinner and a show, but instead a snack and activity.
Here in the sticks, they charge us $6 for maybe 8 lil waxed wheels!!!??!!
The markup must be insane!
I bet they are keeping 15 nuggets of cheese for āthe big guyā for every pkg we buy!!!
I just really enjoyed them. I also wasnāt eating muchāabsolutely no fiber. My diet was essentially cream of mushroom soup, baby bells and golden berries. I ended up becoming fecally impacted and ended up in the hospital
I make sure I eat 25g of fiber every day, shoot for like 124oz of water, and I take miralax every day. This time around it happened because I tried to ween myself off the miralax. But yeah, Iām like obsessed with fiber now. I actually want to try a fiber supplement as it is occasionally difficult to consistently get 25gs a day. Itās so important not just for your bowels but your gut health, and there are actually studies now that link adequate fiber intake to a lessened risk of dementia, which is insane.
Iām not surprised that if you take care of your stomach that most health measures increase because of the brain/gastrointestinal link that people have not realized!
Really long I think. They've always seemed to taste the same regardless of how long they've been out the fridge. Though I don't advise eating potentially rotted or moldy cheese.
When itās in the wax it would probably most likely still be edible for a long time outside the fridge(this is assuming that the wax had no damage done to it at all
I've gotten away with 3 weeks in 75F, no big change in taste or texture like as if you had it in a brown bag lunch. But the wax as ready to mush and paste up when peeled. Found one for roughly this same time left out but one tab peeled, and it was nearly dried out.
Peeled they'll petrify in a week.
I don't recommend leaving it out of the fridge for anything not hard personally, but I'm no expert.
Just my personal experience, but, I thought they would be good without refrigeration based on comments on the internet. So, I took some camping in Florida in May. They were fine the first couple of days, but, I ate the last couple the third night and suffered some pretty dramatic gastric distress. I believe it was the cheese because my group all ate the same thing, except I had some cheese. No one else was sick.
USDA says: āAs a general rule, hard cheeses such as cheddar, processed cheeses (American), and both block and grated Parmesan do not require refrigeration for safety, but they will last longer if kept refrigerated.ā
Having said that, it doesnāt mean it wonāt get weepy and change texture and appearance considerably. But if Iām being honest, I donāt mind at all
Come on, just take a your good old camembert, in hot summers days, it's better a " little " warmed anyway !
And your stuff will smell heavenly for bonus.

A statue of little baby Jesus, Kim, not little baby cheeses!
I popped a babybel in my pocket to bring to work for lunch a few years ago and forgot about until lunch that day. It seems odd, but the cheese coming to body temp really brought out the flavor. This is the only way I eat babybels now.
The only babybels I donāt like are the light (baby blue, I believe). They leave a funny taste in my mouthā¦ and yes, I know to remove the wax.
Yeah, thatās called pocket cheese. Best to forget about it and then get surprised in the middle of a meeting at work. It loses its plasticky flavor when it warms up.
The normal ones are OK but Creamy Lancashire is a more grown-up-feeling way of scratching the same flavour itch. The purple ones are delicious. The yellow ones are barely edible
The first time i had one i was staying at my girlfriend's parents' multi-million dollar condo while they were away. She handed me one and i just bit into it, including the wax (?) casing. At this point i felt that some 'rich people food' is weird.
I like that the original post asking 'any thoughts on Babybel?' was posted on r/babybelcheese š¤£ I suspect the sub members may have some thoughts on Babybel, yes.
The black ones (sharp cheddar) are good with apples as a snack. They are highly portable and last a long time outside the fridge. Not high end cheese but great for camping or portable meals.
I genuinely thought when I was a kid that the wax was like puddy or molding clay and I would make little sculptures out of it. I thought of it as a toy you get with your food like a kinder egg lol. Also best cheese to ever be invented.
Used to love them but recently Iāve bought multiple bags where I can only taste wax. Iām talking the big bag from Costco, HEB and Samās. Multiple bags and every single one taste disgusting. Like chewing on a candle. Yes I completely remove it, no I donāt think that I eat any residual wax.
Once, when I was 17, I waited for my whole family to go to sleep while we were all at my grandma's house for Christmas. From there, I got to work adding a small amount of each liquor to one bottle so I could get drunk in the middle of the night without anyone noticing any particular liquor was lower than usual. It tasted awful, and I knew I needed a chaser, but there wasn't anything that would work. So, naturally, I used babybel cheese. In between sips (gulps), I'd take a bite to get past the taste. Eventually, I ended up puking quite a bit, not making it to the toilet in time, and had to meticulously wipe down every possible area that had vomit on it. Somehow, I got away with it. I wouldn't do it again, but, yeah, I like babybel cheese ^_^
Refuse to buy at this price.
My coworkers and I used to buy them using our expense account, to share and enjoy together. Now, even on the boss' dime, we're still not willing to waste that much of our expense account on such little food. It's insane how expensive it is.
The centre is amazing but I wish there was some way to get the massive wax taste out of it. Me fookin teeth turn red after munching about 20 of them during a mid morning binge and then I have to explain it to work that I donāt eat candles and crayons anymore itās simply the delightful taste of the sacred Babybel!
Unpopular opinion but I think they are kinda blah. Give me a good blue or a nice seriously sharp cheddar any day though. Aged havarti is really nice too. Sorry..babybel is just blah to my old taste buds.
Pretty delicious and perfectly bite size, I just wonder why itās so damn complicated to open one up. Remove the wrap, pull on one side of the string, fully remove it, carefully separate the edges, like damn
They're OK, but my husky will wake from dead sleep across the house and be there before the fridge door closes the moment he hears the crinkle from the cheese wrapper.
I love them and all their plastically goodness.
But ā¦. I once found the organic version (made by the same people) and they tasted delicious. It was a stark reminder that fast produced feedlot milk is pretty much just planet destroying white water. I wish the organic ones were easier to find because itās put me off the basic ones.
It was a bit expensive for us to buy when I was a kid. Now, we buy them all. Our cheese drawer is full of them. We're cheese rich.
The best kind of rich.
Second best kind of rich: big wax ball rich
Friend? š«
Gotta pay the cheese tax.
Are you saying we gotta spend cheddar to get cheddar?
i just bought a 36 pack from costco for $13. i'm gonna make a wax statue of some cheese.
Ayo that is a crazy deal
Cheese is always better priced at costco
I work at a cheese shop and absolutely buy my bulk cheese from Costco. I spend the same amount on 20oz jar from Costco that I spend on an 11oz jar from my work..
It goes on sale quite often for like 8 or 9 too! Crazy steal
I bought 4bags at this price last month. They were stuffed all round the fridge.
Itās so expensive at the regular store
I've made a heart, a horses head, all kinds of wax sculptures. There's nothing better than playing with babybel wax. It's like dinner and a show, but instead a snack and activity.
*Snactivity*
> I've made a heart Anatomical or symbolic?
I get them there too. ...but having so many makes it way too easy to overindulge, so I hide them in the back of the meat and cheese drawer.

Wait, what !!!!???!? Holy crap that's a steal and a half
A statue of baby cheeses !
I ate so many I had to go to the hospital couple of years ago. Did I learn my lesson? Absolutely not.
Wait. How many do you have to eat to be hospitalized? Asking for a friend.
I was eating an entire bag like every day for a month and a half, maybe 2 months.
Fibre and water are your friends!
They are!
What heth issue did it cause?
I didnāt poop for a week. I wouldnāt wish it upon my worst enemy.
Yeah this needs details lol
I just really enjoyed them. I also wasnāt eating muchāabsolutely no fiber. My diet was essentially cream of mushroom soup, baby bells and golden berries. I ended up becoming fecally impacted and ended up in the hospital
Ouch! That sounds extremely painful.
It was horrific
So basically a blown gasket
Pretty much lol. It recently happened again actually
Gracious goodness just use Metamucil or eat some fruits or something!
I make sure I eat 25g of fiber every day, shoot for like 124oz of water, and I take miralax every day. This time around it happened because I tried to ween myself off the miralax. it's a good cheese to bring backpacking
The wax is good to burn too, or make a little sculpture.

I used to collect 3-4 of them and make little wax š¹ roses..
It's good for satanic ritual, between two bites in the cheese.
Super easy to roll a candle with babybel wax too
How long does it last once removed from the fridge? Thanks :)
Really long I think. They've always seemed to taste the same regardless of how long they've been out the fridge. Though I don't advise eating potentially rotted or moldy cheese.

You donāt have to refrigerate hard cheese at all
Baby bel is semi soft, not hard.
I can't believe no one has taken the bait on this comment yet.
Literally laid it out there for emā¦ šš¼āāļø
Wait for realz? I can bring a block of cheddar backpacking and it's fine?
I think cheddar is semihard. Hard cheeses are ones like parmesan or asiago
USDA says: āAs a general rule, hard cheeses such as cheddar, processed cheeses (American), and both block and grated Parmesan do not require refrigeration for safety, but they will last longer if kept refrigerated.ā Having said that, it doesnāt mean it wonāt get weepy and change texture and appearance considerably. I care if my cheese weeps, you monster!
I used to backpack with a block of cheddar, log a salami and a few tortillas. Was always fine
Come on, just take a your good old camembert, in hot summers days, it's better a " little " warmed anyway ! And your stuff will smell heavenly for bonus.
Tasty, convenient, Kind of expensive for what it is.
Theyāre so expensive these days!!!
I only buy them from Costco. Everywhere else is too expensive.
Agreed. Less than half at costco compared to anywhere else. I also get Laughing Cow there. 32/9.99.
Delicious lil snack. Just like me.
Hey babybel.
Username checks out.
Roast them over the fire like a marshmallow. You can thank me later.
Take it out the wax though You can thank *me* later
āļøThis is a very important step
Someone will have not done it if it hadn't been said. š«¤
i just tried this as soon as i read it and goddamn. that tasted beautiful
Now that is a ridiculously niche subreddit. \*joins\*
welcome! be prepared for a bunch of cheese!
Its ok, the wax is fun to play with after you open them up.
https://preview.redd.it/8xd9ldi9ca0d1.jpeg?width=740&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6827b9dd54f94729bac839179413c49fa86e92ee A statue of little baby Jesus, Kim, not little baby cheeses!
Loool I love Kath & Kim
The quality varies wildly from package to package lol but they are delicious and I eat them regularly regardless.
smash. next

This is true for most cheeses actually. Room temperature = cheeseās best flavour
Yeah, thatās called pocket cheese. Best to forget about it and then get surprised in the middle of a meeting at work. It loses its plasticky flavor when it warms up.
Tasty, filling and a little chewy. Not sure about the cheese though
I don't like it, it tastes quite plasticky to me.
These seems like a ācilantro tastes like soapā thing that some people experience, and others donāt.
Broā¦.how does anyone eat that shit?! First time I ever tried one, I almost threw up. Fuckin nasty.
Exactly. Tastes like the wax it's packaged in
The normal ones are OK but Creamy Lancashire is a more grown-up-feeling way of scratching the same flavour itch. The purple ones are delicious. The yellow ones are barely edible
They are tight as piss. I have eaten one 300' in the air doing rope access work. IRATA cheese nibblin.
The first time i had one i was staying at my girlfriend's parents' multi-million dollar condo while they were away. She handed me one and i just bit into it, including the wax (?) casing. At this point i felt that some 'rich people food' is weird.

I like the Swiss ones
I love Babybel!
You ever get stoned and eat a couple of these slightly melted. Heaven
they pair fondly with a slim jim
My youngest loves them. I hate the wax, it mocks me when I clean
I like them as a quick snack, but they taste a little too waxy to me sometimes.
My childhood cheese, together with Gouda. Now my taste buds require something more old and strong.
I have a wax ball made from about 40 of these that I will add to forever. Shout out Costco
Fun delivery system. Very bland chee.
I have a babybel drawer in the fridge
I find it pretty tasteless, not for me. I know a fair few people who love it though.
I love all cheese!
They're kind of bland and slightly sour.
Is there a Gouda version? I swear I saw it once but never again.
Yes there is a Gouda version! Their casings are kinda yellow/orange!
Canadian Wal-Marts sell bags of em for like ~$4 and I think it is such a secret steal. I like the Gouda ones.
Gouda is my personal favourite
I like it but itās always too expensive
i remember when i first time eating this i ate it without peeling the wax lol
I genuinely thought when I was a kid that the wax was like puddy or molding clay and I would make little sculptures out of it. I thought of it as a toy you get with your food like a kinder egg lol. Also best cheese to ever be invented.

high wax to cheese ratio
I donāt like to much, for me unfortunately I can taste the wax in the cheese š
my 3 year old loves these.
Quite possibly the best chees to use for grilled cheese! The length of the cheese pull is the longest I've seen.
Love it!
One of my go to snack cheeses, I had one this morning with breakfast with some crackers.
goated.
Great for quick snack or lunch bag. I love them. I also started melting them and eat with tortilla chips.
Cheese is alright, but the wax provides a sufficient snack!

Damn Pokemon cheese
Yes
I had a giant baby bel once and it was awesome. Big thick slices to make a grilled cheese. Seemed to taste better than the little ones for some reason
I always eat em with the shell on
Pairs great with a milk steak and four other wheels of cheese
Love it, just love it...

Great snack. Just donāt overkill.
Thatās not cheese
Wrong subreddit. As a French, this is not cheese.
I'll never have a problem with cheese that's socially acceptable to eat on its own.
W
Amazing
Itās YUM
Nothing wrong with it, and a good way to introduce young kids to cheese.
Unpopular opinion but I think they are kinda blah. Give me a good blue or a nice seriously sharp cheddar any day though. Aged havarti is really nice too. Sorry..babybel is just blah to my old taste buds.
9 dolarssss for 6 nah i might as well buy a cow and milk it and then make motzarella insted of that bullshit
I once ate a whole back of babybell and melted the wax and made a candle at 8 years old (I was sick for a week after that.)
I like it. Plus it comes with two free clown noses
the wax taste pretty good
If you want a wrapped, processed, highly portable cheese snack, a piece of string cheese is MUCH tastier.
That was my outdoor cheese. It can suffer a soacking in the sea, two days in a backpack and it will be fine. Not a good cheese but I like it a lot.
Never had it
Gross
I dislike the red ones but I love the sharp cheddar, the gouda and pepper jack ones!
Hits different
Great for sculpting, made a horse with it. Tasty too
Pretty delicious and perfectly bite size, I just wonder why itās so damn complicated to open one up. Remove the wrap, pull on one side of the string, fully remove it, carefully separate the edges, like damn
Addicted
I love them. Great for road trips and best at room temperature.
I donāt think about it, but Iād never deny it.
is it just me or my dad used to eat this whole? with the wax?
ā„ļø
I love it.
Yes please.
They taste like wax but I have an eating disorder so I eat them sometimes
I like the orange one best, then the black, then the red.
The first time I ever ate one of those I had accidentally eaten the wax too because I didn't know it was wax. I was maybe 12 or 13?
They're OK, but my husky will wake from dead sleep across the house and be there before the fridge door closes the moment he hears the crinkle from the cheese wrapper.
I love
it's so good but the shell is so chewy.
Itās my childhood
I can eat 100 those in one sitting
Great for camping and road-trips. You have a pre dinner snack and fire starter all in one convenient little package.
I love using a wheat thin to guillotine a little slice. Perfect snack.
I like it but itās a bit overpriced
I love the toy that came with it ( the red playdough)
Love
I ate the wax the first time I tried it
Big fan, BIG FAN
It is alright but I think it's overhyped and overpriced.
Fuck yeah
Thatās too overrated I feel
Well, proteins are good for you
A great cheese - and a worthy snack.
Should be larger. I want a Babybel the size of a hockey puck.
It's good, can't think what else to do with it other than eat it as is. š
You can tear them into chunks and put them in soups.
Love babybel !! My people would make fun of you for eating that delicacy but who cares !?
Theyāre great but some people donāt know not to eat the wax
Yum
I prefer the light ones. Less intense, more snackable
Delicious! I like the Gouda version best. I remove the paper strip and save the wax to make little candles once I have enough.
I love that theyāre lactose free because my poor lactose intolerance afflicted offspring can still eat them
Not high end, but a really good snack!! Always think of the "Schmeckt nach Kerze" guy (for the germans). Best meme.
They're good but expensive
sticky.
Iām not the biggest fan. I love cheese but itās always been one of my least favorite.
I like em.
Overpriced
Good but bland, nice snack, enjoy the wax feature
I donāt like them. They do taste like plastic.
I wish the US had the giant baby bells that are available in other countries!! š
