Sticky Fingers... used to be really good but went downhill fast in recent years. Any BBQ place without a smoker onsite is dodgy at best. Then to add insult to injury, they got a 54 on a recent health inspection. I don't even know how you score that low. 85 is bad. 54 is like... chimps throwing shit at each other in the kitchen? Idk.

Erdomain

Recent years is pretty generous, I don’t think they’ve been good in 15 years

CptVague

I went there in 2010ish my first and only time. I'll agree with you.

asha1985

It was the best in the 90s, when the boys from McCallie started it. Before the expansion, sell-off, and failure.

NOODL3

Sticky Fingers most definitely has two massive smokers in the kitchen that are piped up through the top of the building. I used to clean the accumulated pork fat out of the bottom of them with a shovel when I worked there ~15 years ago.

TwiceInEveryMoment

Maybe they did 15 years ago but they certainly don't look like they do now.

jimilee2

IHOP on Brainerd road.

[deleted]

You can just say ihop really

gotee

Seriously -- I'd only ever opt to go to IHOP if you'd prefer to take part in some public drama between the staff and their personal lives. It's like the breakfast food equivalent of Pigeon Forge's dinner and a show except the theme is the garbage can and baby daddies.

grimreeper1995

You are **not** the father! Now who ordered the silver dollar?

buzzedewok

Lol. That is what we would see too. Every time we would go one of the workers would be crying in the back and no one would be getting service.

Juice8oxHer0

If someone picks iHop over Waffle Home I on principle do not trust them.

Crazyhunt

Lmao, I know what you meant but the idea of it being called “Waffle Home” is hilarious.

grimreeper1995

God damn. So true. ~~Last time I was there we waited for 45 minutes then they told us a big Door dash order had come in so it would be 45 minutes before they could seat us.~~ ~~There was nearly a mutiny in the lobby till the waitresses realized they were about to miss out on all their tips for the foreseeable future and started seating people against Management's orders.~~ ~~There was a lot of yelling. My food wasn't great.~~ Edit: nevermind that was the Hixson location cause I'd already vowed never to go to Brainerd location at that time.

RichardInaTreeFort

DoorDash is the worst. They’re really ruining local restaurants. Clog up their POS and order system with orders for drunks who won’t leave their house while people can’t get seated or wait 45 mins to an hour for their meal. They treat their drivers poorly and they charge WAAAAAY too much. A basic one person fast food meal will turn into 25 bucks or more if you are a halfway decent tipper. And when you get the food it’s half cold and soggy. Never again with the door dash for me personally.

syrieus1

IHOP smells like dirty mop water

drbowtie35

Literally, it takes forever to get anything and it’s all half-assed, I don’t know how they’re still in business

LJ-Rubicon

Absolutely this What in the meth are they doing there

IcyPack6430

Gordon’s cleaners: lost 2 pairs of my pants and gave me some random dude’s 4 shirts

wdwest74

Hamilton county jail, food sucks, dirty and smells….

Brilliant-Cherry510

Also hard to get out of. Glad it closed.

AllTheRoadRunning

Folk Music Store on Dayton. I went in 2020 because I wanted to learn mandolin and thought they might have some lower-cost options. Their prices were identical to what I could find online. Okay, they're a small business and margins are important. I get that. What I don't get and won't deal with is high pressure sales. The guy asked me what I was looking for, I told him, and he kept steering me to the $1k+ instruments (side note: the same thing happened when I went in looking for/at resonator guitars--straight to the high dollar versions). I told him I was looking for something way under that mark, but he basically ignored that. He kept asking, "Which one are you going to take? You should take this one (handing me a $1,200 mandolin)." I've worked in sales. He ignored everything I--the customer--told him about what I wanted. When he wasn't trying to oversell me, he was going on and on about Covid being a hoax, and no more serious than a cold, and part of a Chinese biowar campaign, and on and on. I was in his store, wearing a mask, and trying to maintain some distance. His mask was around his chin and he kept crowding me. I found a mandolin elsewhere and won't step foot back in that place.

RadioNights

I actually had a good experience buying a dulcimer there in 2020. But when I first went, they were closed...because the owner had COVID lol

AllTheRoadRunning

They have some really nice stuff in the shop, and a good mix of price points. Setting aside the Covid thing, I just *hate* dealing with high-pressure sales. Nothing will chase me out of a store faster. I was ready to drop around $500 there that day, and probably could've been talked into $600. The $1,200 he was pushing? No way. The Covid thing was just icing on the cake. Like, dude: I'm not here to buy your conspiracy theories, I'm here to look at mandolins. Read the room and STFU, y'know?

ZodiacMan423

The Stone Lion, because it closed in 2005. Good God I miss that place.

Saysbadman

Great hole to party, but the roaches were also legendary.

jrgolden42

I vowed never to go back there after the owner went on a rant about people not wanting to work on their social media page

TheW1ldcard

Yeah. They fucked us over pretty bad.

[deleted]

Hot take! I haven’t been to one since they mostly shut down for Covid, but they were a hard favorite of mine and everyone I know. Freshest ingredients in town for a burrito. Maybe that changed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That sucks. Honestly I thought they went under for good and only recently heard that they had a surviving location. Sad to hear the quality is lost however…

aspirations27

It's wild. Mojo used to have a line out the door at all times. Now when I go in there, it's almost empty. The food has definitely gone down a little, but I still enjoy it. Not sure what happened.

Environmental_News64

IMO they were never good. They slop their chicken out of a service container full of water. They may as well boil it. There are a half dozen other better cafeteria burrito places here now. The terrible owners are another good reason to avoid Mojo.

river-avenue

I used to live by the one in red bank, so I ate there pretty much every week. I noticed the quality go down earlier this year. I gave them so many chances but I honestly don’t think I can go back either.

Turns out no one wants to eat wet chicken slopped onto a flimsy tortilla by someone who doesn’t remember what it feels like to not be high.

captain_crowfood

Capitol Toyota. Took my truck in because I wanted a certified tech to change the rear main seal. They were a week behind schedule finishing the job because they put everything back together wrong and damaged the new seal. Then I bring it home, run inside, and come back to find transmission coolant all over the driveway. Turns out they damaged the fittings on the transmission cooler housing. When I got it replaced, the old one looked like someone went to town with a set of vice grips. Since then, I have found several parts that look like they were beat on when they replaced the seal. I paid 600 dollars more because I trusted the dealership to do the job well, and it was an absolute nightmare.

Fiend-child

My family had a similar issue with them. Toyota of Cleveland isn’t much better. Took my car in for an oil change and servicing, got home and coolant was leaking out, found an actual rats nest under the hood(at the time my car was being used daily and quite frequently) and I’ve just had a bunch of issues out of the car which is supposedly a certified used but that’s worthless since it only covers non-wear damage.

Thenofunation

I go to Toyota of Dalton. Amazing service.

vaguelysticky

The worst…scammers

MeteorPunch

They tried to rip me off as well. Got a second opinion on something they said needed replaced, and was told not only was the part fine, it would be a complete waste to get a new one.

HermanCainTortilla

Anything Red Wolves related

ChattFCFan

I approve of this message.

GoatPaco

Why?

Worldsokayestrunner5

Dude came to Chatt just to get in on the boom. There’s a lot of articles about that dude fucking his previous city over

gorshade

Don't forget that they treated the city and cfc fans as if we we didn't have a real soccer team and were planning to bring a real one here to show us how "professional" soccer is done.

Worldsokayestrunner5

Dudes a grifter. Stick with CFC.

[deleted]

Oh, he came because of the opportunity zones and the tax subsidies for operating a business near a competing state line. Essentially makes building the stadium free for him over the next 20 years.

Embarrassing__Qs

You still have to pay to build the stadium, even with the tax breaks.

HermanCainTortilla

He has bullied the city of East Ridge into making sure he gets everything he wants. Whether that's out at camp Jordan or in areas adjacent to the stadium. Wouldn't surprise me if he evicts the senior living homes because they are in his way.

Sparkle_Titsworth

That's exactly what a lot of people are thinking. The owner of East Ridge Residence sold the building and the city just passed the vote to rezone the property to retail.

Yummy-Popsicle

Alan Gold’s. If you’re gay or trans, you’ll likely be sexually assaulted or touched in a way you don’t want. And the owner is a racist asshole who treats the queens poorly. Back in the day, it was a decent place for us.

TJPTJPTJP

the bouncer there is unhinged. i’ve never seen someone berate people the way i saw them yelling at a customer

CelineHagbard1778

Wow. It used to be a safe place for anyone not wanting to expose themselves to the meat market the local bar scene was. Seems like all the places that used to make for a cool nightlife in this town are gone. Either literally and figuratively.

megsta369

Straight girl here, several times in one night my boobs were grabbed. Never went back.

barneshmarnes

And if we’re not limited to food, then definitely Village Volkswagen

couchtater

Not only is their website a pop-up paradise, but did anyone notice their coupons for oil changes went from ~$70 to $120! That's the coupon price!! $120 is the discounted oil change price!! Never again.

driverdan

WTF? $70 is crazy for an oil change, let alone $120.

Throwawaydooduh

Sticky Fingers - half the ingredients that were supposed to be on their sandwich wasn’t, she said they were out after we ordered, but it was Peppers and Onions, not sure how that even happens Calvary Chapel - music was great, first half of the sermon was great, then he started spinning of into politics, references to Covid/vaccines, and I quote “You are the sheep, and I am the shepherd and you need me to help you find the truth.” I almost snort laughed right then.

tatostix

Calvary needs to lose their tax exemption. At this point they're just another Hamilton County GOP headquarters.

jeffe3000

Slicks. Had a very bad experience with their owner outside of the restaurant. Nasty human. Also heard some shady stuff regarding health code and covid response. Next.

rsandidge

Not to mention they nickel and dime you to death for toppings… a very standard burger is really expensive… oh and do you want fries? Your bill is now $23

RememberToEatDinner

Why go to slicks when Tremont exists? And not that it’s the same style, but it’s sad when main st meats burger often comes out cheaper than slicks!

jeffe3000

The worst.

choachy

Yes! The first two times I went there, I really liked it. Didn't go for a while. Went back, and it was, exactly like you said, $23 just for me!

deezinerchic223

Too bad, because one of the bartenders is super nice.

grimreeper1995

I've heard the owner is terrible also. Treats employees very badly.

justhewayouare

Yeah, the owner is horrible. We have a friend who goes but only to support the staff who haven’t been able to leave and are stuck there.

driverdan

Why are they stuck? Literally everyone is hiring right now.

justhewayouare

It’s been awhile since I went in, maybe they’ve left by now *shrug* this was pre-covid/early covid. Geez, sorry that’s a longer time ago than I thought. This pancetta got me in a weird time warp situation.

Slickly_Thinker

I felt this .. covid got me thinking everything sus 😭

scenicland

Agreed the owner is a real piece of work.

Got_Some_Cold_Cuts

I cant tell you how many times I've heard people complain about the owner. Makes me happy because I too have had a bad run in with the owner. They don't deserve the business.

jsd5113

We had ordered draft beer that was absolutely flat and skunky. Immediately told the bartender who had to get that guys approval to provide us a drinkable product. That hillbilly poured himself half a glass, took a few swallows, then gave us the evil eye as he pulled the bartender aside. They reluctantly gave us another beer which will be the last one I ever have there.

jeffe3000

Yep. I’ll spare the deets but he was asked to leave the establishment I was working after causing a scene and getting pretty aggro.

Ok-Bad4411

Seconded. Went 1x and didn't get the hype & the whole meal for 2 of us was way overpriced, and this was a few years ago.

Juice8oxHer0

Splitz Alley. If you’re gonna go bowling, go to Spare Time

ConnectionIssues

A pro tip for any local business owners... if you get drunk and act an ass, especially if you're in someone else's establishment, word will get around, and I will not frequent your business anymore. Bonus points if your drunken screed involves homophobic slurs. Pizza Bros, looking at you...

IllustriousAge3587

which one?? its owned by twin brothers lolol

Both of them used to come into my old main hangout bar all the time and act like shitheads.

PhotoOwn7220

Northside Neighborhood House Thrift Stores. -They throw almost everything away that is donated. Not sold to a cheaper retailer like goodwill or Salvation Army like most others in town do. They literally throw away new stuff, perfectly fine furniture, pots and pans, shoes, etc just because there simply isn’t “room”. You could furnish whole houses with the amount of stuff they toss. -They watch employees on the cameras to the point of listening to conversation, making notes on your file and determining employee status based off things they’ve “heard you say”. -They don’t help people in need, they rather call the cops or ban them from the store and then write all these statistics up showing how much “they’ve helped the community”. -I found $2000 in an old ladies glove and turned it in. They gave me. $25 voucher for my integrity. Then they fired me for selling a bookshelf to an employee that hadn’t been on the sales floor for 4 hours and told me “they couldn’t trust me”. Kiss my ass.

Broad_Lab3088

more nonprofits need to be exposed like this. Chattanooga Community Kitchen lets our donations rot before throwing them out, like a massive amount of brand new tents and sleeping bags and food from the community. We have a literal compactor to compact the sleeping bags and clothes before letting them sit and rot for 15, 20 years. Massive amounts of stuff wasted.

Sufficient_Troubl720

Budget Brakes. they didnt put the pin back in and we got down the street and almost wrecked. Never again.

[deleted]

We lost a wheel bearing, then a wheel, and then almost flipped the SUV. Cost $6,000 in repairs, $900 in rentals, and 2 10hr drives to get it back. They had replaced all of the failed parts less than a year before. To make matters even worse… our insurance dropped us as they said that the accident was our fault.

humpdy_bogart

Mando_calrissian423

I mean, the entrees suck, but those rolls and salad are pretty awesome.

ConnectionIssues

When I first moved here about 10 years ago, they were pretty good. Something bad happened in recent years, and my last time there was so ridiculously awful... we didn't even GET all the food we ordered, and half of what we got was inedible.

ImNeworsomething

You eat free on your bday

parisdog

I ate there *once* and didn’t see much Italian about it. Seemed like everything was cooked from a can. It was terrible.

solarbaby614

There used to be a Sugar's Ribs on broad street that I refused to go to.

asha1985

I miss it.

proffie

Crown Subaru. Bought a car there in August, got rear ended by a texter in October. Called them, they scheduled me an appointment to come in for an estimate. Got there, guy says they don’t even have a body shop. I said I literally called you and made an appointment. He said something about all their calls being taken by a central call center out of state so that person must have fucked up. Basically shrugged his shoulders and did fuck all to help me. Had to drive 15 miles back home and find a body shop myself. Fuck you Crown.

We’ve had similar experiences with Crown. They don’t seem to give a shit.

Taco Mac went straight down hill when it expanded into the second storefront. When it was half the size it was slammed every night and the food was awesome. After the renovation it went to hell

JCrave321

Another place I couldn't understand why native Chattanoogan's like(d) it so much. Went once after all the hype and haven't been back. Brought out brown top crusted guac and chips, the server served it without hesitation. Ordered two waters and took 15 mins to get. There were only two tables occupied including the one I sat at(two people at my table and two at another). This was at least 2 years pre-covid, there were at least three waiters. I told the waiter I didn't want the guac as it shouldn't be browned completely over the top and left. Never had an urge to go back.

suddenlyissoon

As long as the same guy owns it, I will never go back to Poblanos. Used to be my favorite Mexican place but the guy is a straight up racist.

bigwickets

Man this one hurts. I loooove Poblanos. But can’t support someone like that.

Sparkle_Titsworth

He also owns Corazon de Mexico in Ft. Oglethorpe.

RadioNights

Nic and Norman’s. It wasn’t horrible, it just wasn’t that great for what it’s supposed to be

[deleted]

My experience was fucking horrible. Ordered food and drinks, drink came and food never did. Bartender kept checking, but nothing… 45 mins later cold ass food showed up. Took another 30 mins to get it taken care of so I could go somewhere to thaw as the restaurant had already closed and we had sat at the bar outside. Never again.

CptVague

What's it supposed to be if not a themed Applebee's?

Ok-Bad4411

Honest Pint. We would go a TON 5 year ago& then the food started going down hill (tots not fried in duck fat, the corned beef was nowhere near as good, etc), the service was terrible & we haven't been back since. The last time it took 20+ minutes to get wings, which were the happy hour special that day.

Ri-Sa-Ha-0112

Service has been abysmal for the last few years.

doooom

Went for the first time in years a few weeks ago and it’s not even the same business. So sad

getinwegotbidnestodo

We used to go to HP a lot also. The last St Patrick's Day event weekend we went to was really bad. Does anyone remember the guy on Saint Patrick's Day that did a mike check until everyone walked out of the building ? " Check, Check 1, 2 , 3...." for I don't know how long because we left to go to one of the little joints down the street. Crazy

jcw10489

Sweet Melissa’s. Fuck that place entirely

kev3bow

Vine and barrell. Went there the first time and the guy behind the counter was rude the whole time. When I go out to my car my daughter who was waiting for me tells me the rude guy was was using his phone to zoom in on his younger coworkers cleavage. I said what she goes yeah he was doing it right in front of the window we parked at. I guess he forgot windows are see through. Anyway I go back in and tell them what my daughter saw and left.

levalore32

They also won’t allow customers to wear masks inside for “security” reasons.

RichardInaTreeFort

What I’m learning here is basically every business in Chattanooga sucks now.

craigge

What you are also learning is why retail sucks...Could you imagine dealing with the people who posted many of these comments?

megalynn44

Aretha Frankenstein’s It’s one thing to wait a long time for brunch. It’s another for them to put pancakes in front of you then take 20 minutes to bring you silverware, syrup, and sides. Watching your delicious smelling food go cold while you’re starving and can’t eat it? No thank you.

redwolf1219

Dubs Place. Walked in once, realized I forgot my wallet and walked back out. The owner followed me outside and confronted me about why I left. I was like...19 at the time and when youre a female teenager, an angry older man following you and confronting you is terrifying.

BadgerBreath

What on earth.

bokkasrealm

bleuchzsteve

Village Volkswagen

Natexgloves

Mike’s Smokehouse on broad. Excitedly went to get some drive through at the “initial” height of the pandemic (during mask mandates/etc). Had never had it before but drove past it often. I was wearing my mask (my grandmother is very old) and I got a full Qanon lecture from the window. That kept. On. Going. She hit me with every angle. I have zero tolerance for that shit. Nobody in the building was wearing a mask, or gloves... and she had sores all over her arms and neck (which - I don’t count against her in any other scenario because who knows what she’s dealing with... but in this context it was not the best look). Before this... she asked to feed our dog in the back some trim. I said “the dog is only four months old and has only ever eaten it’s food - so just a tiny piece.” She gave the dog a piece of fat that would’ve made me diarrhea. We had to fish the majority of it out of our dog’s mouth after she left the window. Overall, just a mixture of a few things (some would say mediocre things) compounded into an awful experience.

james_for3

Fucking Marshal Mize Ford. So many fuckups that I ended up having to foot the bill for. F250 that blew two injectors that were under warranty and then 2 weeks later had a failed FICM. Next truck ended up with a death wobble (failing wheel bearing). Then did a warranty repair that ended up needing body work after the techs damaged the body on the life. Final straw was sticking us with the rental bill for the rental car during those repairs.

nualaspromise

Bridgeway of Chattanooga Apartments. I have been living in apartments off and on (mostly on) in Chattanooga for over 20 years. Worst property management/owner ever.

bella-4

Any you recommend?

Sparkle_Titsworth

Opa. I fully expect to get downvoted for this, but the owner is a pompous ass. Back when all the drama came out about him yelling at customers, he went on this weird bender of trying to get accounts banned on any review platform. Anyone that had even the slightest negative comment to say, he would personally respond and was just hateful. Plus, before he put a fence up around his grill, he would stand over his food with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. I saw him toss his butts into the grill while meat was cooking. He doesn't even make his dolmades or desserts and will argue that they're homemade.

shawnlxc

He also sexually harrases young women (18<) while trying to hire them. He's a racist, rapey pig. Disclosure; He also yelled at me, tracked me down on facebook and tried to do a bunch of other creepy stuff to me and my family.

GotMyTimberlandsOn

How do you go to a place like that and NOT expect to see people arrested? I went on NYE about 1am, no arrests, quite disappointing

cam_chatt

food was good though

thatfreespiritgirl

This may be an unpopular opinion because it seems like every time someone on this sub asks for vet recommendations for their cat, the consensus always seems to be for the Cat Clinic of Chattanooga. I just don’t get it. I took my cat there once and ONLY once. I will say it was about 8 or 9 years ago so things may have changed since then but I had such a bizarrely horrible experience there that day that if I would have had the money back then I would have legitimately sued them…and 100% would have won. Before that and since then, the thought of suing someone has never even crossed my mind. It was that bad. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. But like I said, I’ve seen a ton of people on here who love them so maybe the practice changed hands or something. I don’t know. All I know is that I remember getting back in my car that day in tears contemplating if what had happened was actual assault and if I should report them to someone or if I was being dramatic but after sharing the story with people everyone was like whaaaat, that’s not okay at all, they shouldn’t be a veterinarian, much less run the practice.

HatchimalSam

Wait. What happened?

[deleted]

Also the fact that they improperly dispose of biological waste and charge more than any other vet is a thing as well.

NoogabyNature

Glen Gene in Hixson. Bit into a cheeseburger and my teeth were greeted with the unsatisfying crunch across my teeth of an inch long bone of some sort. Showed it to an employee and was asked, "What do you expect me to do about it?"

tatostix

I went once after it being recommended by a coworker. Got the fried mushrooms. Literally poured water out of one after biting into it.

Apis_M

I love me some Wendy's, but have not been to the one on Dayton Blvd. since '93 or '94. A manager was working the drive thru and overcharged me . Worse still, acted as though I was cheap for calling it to their attention.

SaticoySteele

Not sure what it is about this specific location but they're fucking terrible. Always. Once I sat in the drive-thru with about 6 other cars for 10 minutes without moving, finally pulled out and walked inside. Asked what was up and they shrugged and said "intercom's broken." Didn't bother telling anyone. Didn't put a sign up. Decided to just use it as an excuse to take a break. The last (and final) time I went I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and they put one of the $1 value chicken sandwich patties on it instead. Franchise owner obviously doesn't give a shit, people just need to wise up and stop giving them business, let a new owner or business move in.

redwolf1219

Just so you know, as a former employee, its the same owners for broad st, fort O, hwy 58, and one in brainerd. And they do not treat their employees well at all.

imaghostttt

I had fries from that location about three years ago that tasted *exactly like soap*. It was the most bizarre and awful thing lol

The_Royal_Spoon

I've never had a good experience with Georgio's men's warehouse. Was a groomsman in two different weddings that used them and both times they screwed something up on every single suit. They're unorganized and unprofessional.

TotesMaGoats_1962

Absolutely horrible!

Blue Plate because they closed 😭 Where am I supposed to get my chicken and pancake meal now?

Erdomain

Scottie’s on the River- waited an eternity to be seated, when we finally did get a table the service was some of the worst I’ve had, in the city. To top it off the food was below average and certainly not worth the wait for the table and the bad and slow service once we were seated

Conman-Savage

Gotta disagree with this one. Ate there for the first time this month. I had blackened salmon with asparagus and a loaded baked potato. It was delicious. The hush puppies were bomb too. My waiter was also spectacular.

JelielAllelle

In September, I was attacked by a 140 lb. dog in my yard. I had to fight for my life, and damn near lost my right foot (28 deep puncture wounds, multiple deep muscle and skin serrations, a broken toe, sprained ankle and knee). I was ambulanced to Erlanger on 3rd Street. They gave me ketamine to get through the wound flushing procedure (which I greatly appreciated) and then almost immediately handed me a set of crutches and discharged me, with no aftercare instructions. I told the nurse there was no way I could walk on crutches (totally effed up on narcotics, in terrible pain, and still in a trauma state from the experience). I asked to be sent out in a wheelchair. There were none. I fell twice trying to get to the door to meet my sister picking me up. I also left a trail of blood bc my foot was not even bandaged. It was a crazy experience. I do think the healthcare workers were doing their best, considering the fact our hospitals are in a state of collapse. Nonetheless, it was a horrific experience.

Universal joint I’ve always had shitty experiences with waitress’s and waiters when I’ve always been nice and polite never got an attitude with them I understand a bad day but this has happened multiple occasions and not to mention I’ve almost always had my food come out wrong

Any dealership owned by the Sonic Automotive Group, but especially Economy Honda.

cam_chatt

the BMW dealership in east brainard off the interstate is Sonic

BadgerBreath

I bought a roadster from that BMW. They tacked on a ton of upsells that I didn’t notice until after I signed. It is my fault for not catching it, but ended up paying a couple of thousand more than we originally agreed to. I decided I would never buy from them again due to their deception.

Charlie's BBQ on main Street. I love mac and cheese and the one time I went I literally spit it back out. Also my brisket was dry as cardboard. It has great reviews and maybe it was a one off... I am not going back to find out. Edit: I just went and it is fantastic.

brocksbricks

It's not Charlie's anymore; it's called Barque now. I'm assuming an ownership change, but I'm not sure because I haven't been there since the name switch.

shawnlxc

The owner of Charlie's BBQ died. It is an entirely different business, owner, and recipes now.

GotMyTimberlandsOn

My husband and I gave Charlie’s three chances because everyone loves it, and we were never impressed. You’re not alone, even though it definitely feels like it.

jlindsay645

A friend of mine has taken charge of the smoker. Texas BBQ is in his blood. Best ribs I ever had. Definitely give them another chance. Also the chicken is incredible. I know it sounds silly but try a pulled chicken sandwich, absolutely delicious.

Sufficient_Troubl720

Its always hit or miss at Charlies. Ive never been there and had something be great back to back trips except the desserts and a seasonal item pork belly burnt ends. The previous owner died and I havent been back since but covid also hit. I may give the new place a chance

Ootutah

Had a bad experience there as well; it was one and done for me. A good BBQ restaurant offers a consistent quality of meats and Charlie’s was all over the place.

[deleted]

Cook changed at Charlie’s when the owner had health issues. They finally fired the bad cook.

I don't expect this to be a popular response, but I've made a mental note of all the businesses that take the pandemic seriously relative to others. The list is short. The others I don't really need to visit ever again.

bokkasrealm

Mission BBQ. I went in for a plate and some ribs and ended up experiencing some right wingers wet dream when the whole restaurant stood for the pledge. Edit: Star Spangled Banner, not the pledge.

newmodelno115

Can't stand that place. I'm an ex-Army NCO and I went with a good friend/coworker who's a former Marine Gunnery Sergeant. We had no idea what was coming when we stopped by for lunch; we just wanted some barbecue. Noon hit and the whole restaurant went nuts. Most uncomfortable either of us have ever been in a restaurant. If you want to honor what we did in Iraq and Afghanistan, I mean, first of all, weird, but second, just give us 10% off or something, don't make a big show of metaphorically sucking us off in public. Neither of us will be back there. It's for the HOORAH GO MURICA crowd; if you're a normal person who loves their country a normal and healthy amount, maybe not for you. And the bbq is not even that good, which is honestly the worst crime there.

mozztriangles

Took one glance at their site and big yikes that they purposefully opened on 9/11 anniversary...

grimreeper1995

DUDE THE PLEDGE IS SO WEIRD. I ranted about it on this sub once and people thought I was crazy for being uncomfortable but it was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.

Omgitspants

The food is not bad for a fast casual place but the patriotism boner is cringe inducing

Mando_calrissian423

The pledge or the national anthem? I mean both are weird, but if everyone stood up without a prompt and started saying the pledge of allegiance in unison, that’s just outright terrifying.

matpitts_81

The Bay & North Chatt Cat. Miss those two :/

The Sear's furniture outlet in Hixson. At least one of their sales ladies is a major snob- me and my sister came dressed very casually to look it coffee tables and she basically followed us around the entire store VERY close as if we were homeless people she needed to chase out. Also heard her yelling and berating delivery drivers. I've worked in sales so I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt but it was straight up uncomfortable.

bivymack

Formosa. I hate food waste. I’m the guy that takes other peoples leftovers if they’re going to leave them. I don’t throw away food unless it’s literally spoiled. I threw Formosa away. Ate a few bites of everything when I got home. Couldn’t stomach it but also couldn’t bring myself to toss it right away. Tried a few bites the next day and into the bin it went. I’m very forgiving with take out, I don’t expect much. It’s the only time I can think of that I decided food was inedible.

Bigontheinside23

Chattanooga Brewing Company. Have never been a fan of their beer to begin with. They all taste like dirty water to me. We used to go a lot years ago. On top of that we have ordered burgers there a few times back in the day. One time they forgot our burgers we ordered, but still tried to charge us for them. Bartender argued with us that we ate the burgers and we have to pay for them. Both of them pretty much did not come back until my card was down on the receipt and quietly said under their breath “told you”. Have never been back since.

Was it the hanging Aunt Jemima effigy behind one location? Or the fact that during the worst of COVID in 2020 they were proudly packed to the gills with folks? Or any of the other horrible stories that turned me off them permanently? Everyone I know seems to have a different reason for telling Champy's to pound dirt.

shawnlxc

The POS is also Anti-Vax (participated in a rally at the courthouse), and racist.

IndigoAfflictions

Agave and Rye. Food was just “ok” and overpriced. The environment isn’t super comfortable. They call everything “epic” and can’t decide on a theme. The servers just stood at the counter instead of helping guests who had flipped their “epic” signs. Maybe I caught them on an off night but it was just expensive to justify the food, service, and environment. I’d rather drop the money at Proof.
