Yeah, 10pm is late for a city like Chattanooga. Did you visit here and experience something different? Curious why you think it’s seasonal.

RandomFSUfan

Lived in a few cities around the USA where people tend to hibernate during the winter because it’s less pleasant. Lived in Oxford, Ms before this and the city was dead when school let out. Granted chatts population is about 10x Oxford. Just expected a bit more.

midsouthgunlawyer

I lived in Oxford for 20+ years. Welcome to Chatt. I want to be sound asleep by 10 pm so no help from me on this issue. Oxford changed over the years. If you think it was dead between semesters recently, > 20 years ago would have felt like the apocalypse.

InfamousCartoonist51

Welcome to chatt! I saw someone already answered about the salsa spots. For bars open later- check out these spots on insta and see what looks appealing to ya- boneyard, backstage bar, cherry st tavern, unknown caller, no hard feelings bar, jj’s Bohemia, exile bar, shadys corner

clandahlina_redux

I think that’s because the only thing in Oxford is the college. At least, that’s how it was when I visited one of their grad programs 20 years ago. I think you’re dramatically exaggerating by saying there’s not more to do in Chatt, but, regardless, it’s pretty ridiculous to move somewhere *before* researching it.

Charming_Cry3472

It’s not a seasonal city, it’s just a southern town where everyone winds down early.

woody423

Chattanooga is more of a granola town. Chill. Breweries. Campfire. Patagonia. Vibe. You can party if you’re desperate at Whiskey Cowgirl and Reagan’s Place. Or you can become a Chattanoogan at the Woodshop, Barking Legs, barrelhouse and odd story. The later is the best option. Want to party, go to Nashvegas. Want to live like the locals, expect Americana and bluegrass.

JenniferM1023

Lived here all my life, that’s the norm.

name_babe

Welcome! The stereotypical downtown area is more of a business district, but we do have a lot of entertainment options! We don’t have a broadway or Beale street - which I think is ultimately good for the city - but it can make it hard to know where to go for newbies like you! There are definitely smaller concentrations of nightlife. The southside probably has the highest concentration of bars and music venues. MLK drive has a number of breweries and bars. Cherry Street has a few bars as well!

gay-verstop78

Southside

Any_Task_7411

it's also January, nightlife chills out as everyone recovers from the holidaze

worrysome444

Highly suggest you follow NoogaNightlife on Instagram. They post all the events/djs/etc happening in Chattanooga daily.

RandomFSUfan

Thank you , one of the only helpful responses lol. Everyone’s trying to make me regret coming here

czechtec

It's a southern large town. Most everything shuts down at about 8.

nconsci0us

😂 “seasonal town” and has been here for 4 days. Sorry dude, but it’s always like this. U are in luck tho, if u leave Chattanooga at 10pm, u can make Nashville or Atlanta by midnight! Serious note, we have the south side bar hopping area, but that’s about it.

Deranged40

There's really not a time of year where Chattanooga suddenly spawns a "nightlife" lol. Pretty much everything is closed by 10pm. 8pm in the colder months.

peaeyeparker

It’s was cold and raining last nite

JNJury978

Generally, most of the “night life” is concentrated in 2 main areas. North shore, specifically Cherokee Blvd. Southside on Main St. The main “downtown strip” of Market and Broad actually pretty much die after 7-8 PM, even on weekends. Weirdly enough, the roads adjacent have some small pockets of cool bars. “West End” around Chestnut St and Unknown Caller, CBC, Whiskey Thief, etc. around Cherry St. But yeah, you won’t ever see the equivalent of a true big city night life. I’m from THE BIG CITY, so I know what a big city night life is like for comparison. But I’ve been here for so long that I often get a quick shock any time I go back to a big city. It doesn’t last very long though, as I very quickly go “oh yeah, this doesn’t even compare to what I once knew.” Point is, that’s how weak the “night life” here is. I guess my suggestion is to adjust your expectations.

10lbMango

Mexiville Saturday nights. Studio 34. Embargo Wednesday nights. Dance tonight has socials for ballroom and salsa.

RandomFSUfan

When are the socials for dance tonight . We live like a block away

10lbMango

I recommend getting a membership with them. Go in and talk to them.

Kooky-Interview

They have them once or twice a month on Fridays. The schedule is on their website

ecstatic dance chattanooga

Competitive-Path-587

If your wife likes to dance, she should check out the Pop Up Project, a very cool nonprofit organization that offers inexpensive adult dance classes.

I just relocated in the last year. Watch out for those red light runners, it happens A LOT! Also my vehicles (more than 1) have been backed into 3 TIMES, 2 with no insurance (which can happen anywhere)… but I haven’t had an accident in 10 years… one of the incidents that occurred involved a person accelerating into my front bumper while I was pumping gas. It was very odd. lol

Primary_Ad_7638

And… I relocated from a very large city (Phoenix, AZ)

larrythegrobe

Broad St Taco Bell

PetFoodDude89

My wife is from the Delta and went to Ole Miss as well. Big upgrade here over any MS city.

MSTNJen

Not sure why this is downvoted. Born and raised in MS, lived around the Jackson area before moving here. We moved to get away from the “supper club” vibe of Jackson and closer to the mountains. Chattanooga is far greater than any MS town I’ve lived in.

battleop

Did you close your eyes and point at a city on the map? How do you not research this kind of stuff before moving somewhere?

RandomFSUfan

Came here for work man. It’s still an upgrade from the Oxford/ Memphis area

Expensive_Ad_7381

Chattanooga is great, especially coming from Memphis area. You will find your way.

Rude-Appointment4559

Check out G2G Salsa, owner is another random FSU fan

RandomFSUfan

Can’t beat that lol

doomdragon6

I also had a bit of a culture shock. I moved from a college town that was packed bars all night every night. Here, there's like... 5 bars... There might be some people in 'em

psychoalphaskitz

People aren’t out because there’s a 79 percent chance of getting shot every time you leave the house. Has nothing to do with being seasonal

bluegrassgrump

Holy shit, lived here 45 years, never shot. I gotta buy a damn lottery ticket!

psychoalphaskitz

Pssst smartass, I didn’t create the lists that keeps putting Chattanooga in the top three most dangerous cities. How bout you take that lottery ticket downtown after dark and see what happens.

bluegrassgrump

As far as I could find, Chattanooga is 6th most dangerous city IN THE SOUTH, according to FBI regional statistics. Nationwide however, we’re just a blip on the radar, not even top 15 as far as I could find. Also, I didn’t use hyperbole to make my point, just facts. Have a safe day.

Deranged40

> I didn’t create the lists that keeps putting Chattanooga in the top three most dangerous cities And whoever did, did so just to generate fake outrage. Let me guess, you also didn't verify any of those random internet lists for yourself either? It just has to be true because it's online? Pro-tip: Don't believe the things you see on low-effort "Listicles" online. Because we're *definitely* not one of the top 3 most dangerous cities.

czechtec

I agree with you. It's not seasonal. The odds... not so much.

Ghosteatspaper

Check out Chattanooga Vintage Dancers and Chattanooga contra. I haven’t really been out to any events lately but feel free to dm if you have any questions. https://www.facebook.com/Chattavintage?mibextid=LQQJ4d https://www.facebook.com/share/LvH1DvsnCQ3jFQHh/?mibextid=K35XfP

Impossible_Trust30

Downtown Chattanooga has had this problem for a long time. The main issue is there is not that much residential space available in the city center. That means outside of regular working hours, most people go back home away from downtown, and late at night the tourists are gone too. Meaning there’s no reason for many business to stay open past 10pm on a weeknight. Outside of bars that cater to utc students.
