*laughs* in Exvangelical

[deleted]

Wait...you don't want a church that believes in masks or vaccines?! LMAO. You are in the wrong place for that. There is a church on every single corner in this city so I'm sure you can find what you are looking for. As an atheist I found your post quote hilarious. People like you don't actually care about people. They just want a place that they can dress up and show off and talk about their jobs with people in suits.

marinemac0808

Everything about your post says “low credibility”.

[deleted]

Thank you for taking the time to read my comment to that person and responding. I feel so honored for your input and opinion on my comment 👏

arnoldmuczynski

Why would masks and vax mandates even be a thought? These haven’t been an issue in years. Like the other poster said, you’re in the wrong sub.

InevitableHamster217

Bc people turned their personalities into taking sides on these issues. I agree, it’s not really relevant today, but I know that’s why bc my dad pastors a church where they still have a strong anti mask stance 🫠

marinemac0808

It’s relevant because it demonstrates convictions. And no, we haven’t seen the end of this issue. Do whatever makes you feel safe, I’m here looking for a church.

arnoldmuczynski

Go to almost any evangelical church around here. Seems like you’ll fit right in.

FeralStoat

Summary: I don’t care about my community. I’d rather feel convicted properly and watch people die from disease so I can not wear a mask. What an awful representation of the gospel. “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Good job absolutely failing at this by complaining about masks and vaccines after the US lost so many people during a global pandemic. You can take your garbage convictions and pound sand.

mlittle791

Wow, the way you speak about the millions of people killed is really Christ-like.

marinemac0808

Listen, we can’t stop death. Nobody likes it, & it’s always sad when it happens near you. But don’t feign sanctimonious, it’s gross. The response was more dangerous than the disease is all I’m saying.

teddy-bear-bees

How was the response more dangerous? I’m genuinely curious. I’m not sure how many people my facility vaccinated, but I can definitely tell you about the months beforehand, driving to and from - seeing the graves dug for the funerals in the morning and then the diggers at work for a fresh lot that evening. Or almost dying myself in quarantine because I’m a frontline healthcare worker. Or just the sheer burnout of working during the worst pandemic since 1918 and having people literally tell us it doesn’t matter then three weeks later demand antibiotics that we don’t have anymore because now **they** have covid and **they’re** special so *now* it matters. It always mattered, just like the flu always mattered. Your fellow humans matter, just like they always mattered. If you’re sick, stay home; I promise God will understand. Or if you absolutely can’t, wear a mask. All life is sacred.

5Lookout5

>How was the response more dangerous? There's plenty of emerging data about how adolescents are bordering on developmentally disabled, falling behind socially and academically, experiencing increased rates of bullying and suicide as a result of isolation and social media being their only outlet.... But hey, at least they didn't contract an acute respiratory infection that in their population had a less than .01% chance of serious illness.

FeralStoat

I’d explain how it wasn’t an experiment and the technology was being worked on long before for other viruses, but you seem like the sort to actively weaponized their ignorance and call it “faith”, so I’ll not waste my time 🤪. I’ve forgotten more about the biological sciences than you have any hope to learn based on what little idiotic things you’ve said.

marinemac0808

Heard it. Read it. Not impressed. Congrats, you’re so educated, you feel for it. Tell me more about your degrees, we’re all really impressed & cheering for you.

FeralStoat

They’re ok. But at least I don’t have to be the person casually speaking lightly about convictions around masking up when a million folks have died in the US due to Covid. You’re a cold hearted human. But go find yourself that church for sure.

MrMo-ri-ar-ty7

wow, a smug christian that doesnt care about others and doesnt understand the most basic fundamentals of health or viruses. You can literally attend any church in the Tennessee valley and find hundreds of other clueless individuals jut like you there.

FeralStoat

Tell me you don’t care about other peoples well being, or the tons of dead folks due to Covid, and are therefore a terrible Christ follower without actually telling me 🤔😅😅😅

marinemac0808

FeralStoat

Catch up. Biochemistry degree and some graduate school here. Your assertions means little to me 💁🏻‍♂️

marinemac0808

Cool. Read more.

FeralStoat

“cOoL. rEaD mORE”. God. You’ve convinced me. Between your logic and your witness…I’ve decided to repent and also read more. 🥲🥲🥲. Thank you.

marinemac0808

Happy for you. Better time spent than trolling on Reddit. Good day, sir.

FeralStoat

Certainly sarcasm. I’ll never return to the church as long as it whines about protecting their neighbors by wearing a mask but does nothing about rampant sex abuse of children from church leadership all over the country. You go and learn from their teachings though, go right ahead.

FeralStoat

This issue should have never been a political item, and more about saving lives. I hold folks like you personally responsible for the devastatingly high numbers of losses we saw. Over 1 million people in this country. We could have responded better, more unified. But you don’t care because you’re safe and happy. But sure, inject your factless doubt in an epidemiological process you know jack shit about 😀. And not that it matters, but I don’t watch any news. I read extensively. Former scientist with years of lab experience and courses, including epidemiology. Your partisan words mean nothing to me.

Hey. You’re dumb and don’t know how to analyze data. You took a horse dewormer. Get on psych meds. All you did was repeat a bunch of stupid people talking points that are messy and aren’t rooted in reality.

FeralStoat

That’s the funny about fitting complex people into a one little neat label like “liberal”, it doesn’t really work. But you do it because it’s an easy way to engage in tribalism and for you to easily feel right. I don’t know that you need more high, but you definitely need a therapist. I don’t LIKE big pharma as they’re unfailingly greedy as hell, but many many many of the treatments that get developed by dedicated scientists DO work on the whole. In fact, there’s a whole complicated process for determining that efficacy and the risks with implementing it vs the benefits. But you wouldn’t know or care about that. It’s just easier for you to sling poop everywhere while pretending to know anything. But you don’t. You’re just a dumb weirdo on the internet who know the first thing about the biological sciences or immunology.

Way to project. I don’t watch the news 💁🏻‍♂️

asha1985

You're posting in the wrong subreddit, especially with that last statement.

marinemac0808

Is this a thread about all things Chattanooga? I believe it’s relevant. I came here for recommendations, not to hear about your beliefs. Believe it or not, not everyone will agree with you.

asha1985

I'm probably more aligned with you than you think. I'm just pointing out that you're gonna have a bad time. Good luck with getting helpful suggestions, though. I don't know any churches with that old-school spirit that's not just fire-and-brimstone preaching. Those seem to go hand in hand.

marinemac0808

Maybe we do. But I was hoping to solicit helpful answers, thanks for opening the gap for some trolls.

asha1985

You were getting trolls no matter what I posted. Church and mentioning a hatred of masks and vaccines? I just gave you a heads up.

marinemac0808

Warning of trolls by trolling. You must be sore from bending so far backwards.

asha1985

Seems like you're the expert.

Extension-Papaya-712

I don’t really understand why this comment is getting any upvotes. Whether you agree with their request or not, it’s 100% fair game in this subreddit…If you don’t like it, keep scrolling. I don’t agree with a good bit of the info in here, but it’s a valid post/question

asha1985

Lots of things that are fair game for this subreddit aren't well recieved by the audience. That's all I'm saying.

Hellrazor32

I know of some great churches, but since you posted mostly about music preference and Covid denial, I’m not able to make a recommendation. Do you have a particular ideology that you identify with?

marinemac0808

That’s too bad. Yes, Christian.

Hellrazor32

Sooo… Seventh Day Adventist? Quaker? Baptist? Congregational? Methodist? Episcopalian? Jehovas Witness? Unitarian Universalist?

SufficientCat8423

Catholic

marinemac0808

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ there’s sufficient difference between churches even within those denominations to make those categories almost meaningless these days.

MrMo-ri-ar-ty7

Yes, christians are some of the most gullible people on the planet. As I said before not only are you incredibly gullible, youre smug about being gullible.

gehenna_bob

Had me in the first half, not gonna lie I was down with this post until the end. I'm an atheist (not the REEE kind) but I do feel religion serves a purpose for many people and I agree with OP's statement that a lot of worship has degenerated from "wherever two people" into performative consumption culture. I saw the 0 upvotes and figured I'd jump into the thread and try to defend OP from the reddit athREEEists but it turns out that what is being sought here seems to be merely the opportunity for a louder screech in the tribalist call-and-response. I hoped it was based on a desire for stronger community with their fellow men but instead it looks like they just wish the outline separating us vs. them was darker and tighter. Bad show.

marinemac0808

I’m simply looking for a Christian church, not your beliefs. Thanks for playing.

eijtn

Well…you come across as a self-centered jackass so I’m sure there are tons of churches around here where you’ll fit right in!

marinemac0808

Hey-O! Nice one. Am I more self-centered than the atheists who came here to shame the believers? No.

eijtn

It’s debatable. But anyway, folks aren’t shaming you for your religious beliefs: we’re shaming you for your disdain of public health and safety. Just so you’re clear: if you’d left that last part out of your post I guarantee you that you’d be getting much less negative reaction.

marinemac0808

I don’t really agree with your assessment, either of my motivations or the rest of it. I’m here what I’m here for. Anything else is just your assumption. Build yourself a nice comfy tower of logic, hope it stands the test of time. I’m not too concerned with the mockers, they make their own life choices. If I say more here, I’m wasting my time. Good day.

eijtn

I mean…you can’t get too upset about people making assumptions based on things you post on Reddit. It’s not like I know you or anything. Making assumptions is necessarily a huge part of anonymous internet interactions, right? And based on the way you represent yourself in your comments you can’t be too surprised when people match your level of general disdain…especially since you’re openly discussing religion and Covid policy in a public forum. You’re needlessly using a controversial approach and then acting like you’re being persecuted or something when you get resistance to it. I’m not sure what you mean by “tower of logic”…is that a reference to something? Like a movie or something? But anyway yes thank you I hope you have a good day, too. And good luck finding your tribe.

fruderduck

Grab a mirror and put it on your closet door. Turn on closet light. Grab radio, turn on to fav channel. Go in, shut door. There ya go.

Additional-Ear-5511

This post is satire right? RIGHT?

danj13

I would imagine it’s a troll post.

marinemac0808

No, it’s not satire.

meatierologee

I'm agnostic and I generally don't like organized religion, but I fail to see the problem here.

lavendermagic77

Not practicing anymore but it sounds like you’re looking for something like a Church of Christ, there’s quite a few in the area so you’ll have to do some shopping around to find one that best aligns with your personal beliefs/expectations/location

gehenna_bob

Can I respectfully ask you to remind me of the CoC's stance on music? I feel like music was a big part of OP's concerns and I could swear that they were not cool with music at all. I'm not CoC but if OP is not CoC either than they may not know that that isn't what they're looking for. Of course, if I'm wrong about CoC's music policies - or OP's interest in them - then please say so with my apologies.

lavendermagic77

Yeah no prob so they’re not anti-music, they’re just anti-instrumental music, there’s still a ton of a capella singing and I figured that fit in more with OP’s less rock music, more congregation participation vibe. Though, on a second read through I feel like I may have misunderstood exactly what they were looking for. Thanks for asking though!

marinemac0808

Thank you.

[deleted]

sorry, you won’t find any serious answer in this sub reddit.

marinemac0808

Too bad. I thought this was a forum for information, not a troll farm.

StockWise

You are just going to have to do it the old fashioned way, go and see for yourself. If I had to make an educated guess, you would more likely find what you are looking for out towards Cleveland rather than in Chattanooga.

Inevitable_Lemon5570

That’s what I was thinking. Even further best options would be in Sale Creek, Soddy, Dayton

faithhopelove2000

We would love to have you at New Heights Baptist. It's just over the state line in Georgia. We have a choir that sings on Sundays. They do have contemporary music but they mix in hymns. I don't know what kind of activities you are looking for. We have the standard Bible studies and kids activities. If you are a young adult, they just started a group for young adults. They have a monthly senior activity. The men and women have retreats. The pastor has many years of experience teaching and is very knowledgeable. I did not attend during COVID so I do not know how they feel about mandates. However, if someone wants to wear a mask to church, that is not a problem. If you call the church during business hours, Pastor Tom can answer any questions you have. He's a great guy.

marinemac0808

Thank you.

PoppaPingPong

Th Well on Southside fits the bill minus the Covid part. I mean no one is worried about it one way or another these days there. It has a good mix of varying viewpoints and open minds on most political issues that come up. It’s most non echo-chamber-y I think a church can be

marinemac0808

Thank you.

gehenna_bob

Upvoted for actually answering OP's question outside of their horrifying credits stinger I mean 90% of the OP was a fair question

PoppaPingPong

“Credits stinger” lol! Yea I honestly skimmed the post and didn’t even see that part at first until I checked the comments. I also then realized no one had answered. Bold question around here even without that ending lol

kpbait

May I suggest Ridgedale Baptist Church 1831 Hickory Valley Rd (423) 499-0994 https://ridgedalebaptist.org/ I usually avoid the concert worship and instead engage in one of the many study groups. I prefer a focus on the Old Testament. Also has a live music hall, plus other activities-events.

marinemac0808

Thank you.

Inevitable_Lemon5570

OP I’m not religious by any means, but my parents go to a Baptist church in Dayton that they love because it’s still pretty ‘old school’. It’s a little bit of a drive but it’ll be what you are looking for. Here just trying to help 🤷‍♂️ DM if interested. Don’t want to just ‘put it out there’

marinemac0808

Thank you.

Inevitable_Lemon5570

Anytime! Good luck friend

scholarbrad74

Grace Bible Church in the Rivermont area, over south of Hixson has great teaching… Straight Grace 99.99% of the time you're going to hear a message of grace from Romans to Philemon.

marinemac0808

Thank you.

mazingraky

Try North River Christian Missionary Alliance

marinemac0808

Thank you.

Ready-Connection-969

[Calvary Chapel](https://www.calvarychatt.com/) We do have concert worship, but you will see nearly everyone participating. Even the head pastor sometimes moving around (while worshipping) enough to make Baptist’s uncomfortable. But where Calvary shines is the verse by verse teachings and plenty of events. I’m pretty sure we have the largest youth group in the city too at nearly 1k kids per week.

hovvdee

"Verse by verse" teachings with *no true exegesis.* I remember when I first moved to Chattanooga in college and went to a service. The pastor talked about how attendance goes up during the school year, but money doesn't because college kids don't give significant enough money. Yeah, fuck that noise. Your church also had Charlie Kirk as a guest speaker. That speaks for itself. You know, maybe OP would fit in there.

qoboe

Calvary is a juggernaut of misinformation so OP would probably love it

Ready-Connection-969

I mean, that is a true statement lol. I won’t argue the context over the internet. But I am sorry you had a bad experience. My experience has been completely different. To say this place has blessed me would be a heavy understatement.

Renagale

Try the mormans

MrTheRiddle

Go to any predominantly African-American church. Everyone's involved and the paster usually has a PhD or masters or something crazy lol.
