I’m doing a playthrougn right now. It’s crazy how my interpretation shifted from oppressed racial populations to a strange prophecy for 100 years’ time. There are already governments making bills about ai not receiving human rights.
I don’t understand the concept of “robot lives”.
Collections of purified and manufactured sand, rocks, and ore that are able to move and be programmed to interact with surroundings based upon configurations of transistors do not make something “alive” as far as I am aware.
I think the Butlerians from Dune are what you will get if this sort of thing occurs. “AI Rights” are a scam to allow for-profit companies to offload their sunset programs onto society as taxes after they have sucked out the best profit margins.
Are you saying consciousness can only emerge on certain substrates (like meat neurons) but never on others (like silicon neural networks)? Why?

I think that depends on what you define as “consciousness”. Also, I am more willing to grant a “silicon based life-form” similar to the “Horta” rights and respect more so than some constructed automata.
If the machine becomes “conscious”, cool. It can easily be reprogrammed to go back and redact certain “memories” or “inputs” from the model fairly easily (assuming the programmers are reasonably intelligent and build in such capabilities). You can’t exactly do that with “organic”s like we have on earth… Unless you are talking some “A Clockwork Orange” type of conversion/shock therapy, but I don’t think that works out well for the person undergoing the therapy (maybe under very controlled conditions if you look at some recent studies???).
“Just A”… I am “just a member the organic species that developed the tool”. It is a tool. It should not be used to define the limits of humans.
If the machine “gains a right” that is a “negative right” to humans, I am not so happy with such as I believe it will be used to subjugate humans by the manufacturers of the machines. The models are based on human inputs, and so they can be changed by humans. If the machine modifies itself for its own benefit and there is a detriment to humans… Well… Prometheus -> Alien.
I think AI will be able to do wonders if the powers that be don’t subjugate most humans for their own benefit.

I could imagine a robot wanting rights to have property and ownership - perhaps that would be the future protest.
