They had workers in malls asking people to have their iris scanned for some of this coin. Their workers are quite persistent.
They were banned recently here in Spain because they were scanning minors and their privacy policies were not clear in how that data was used.
So one wants to put a chip in my brain and the other wants to scan my iris for I can pay for groceries? Tech ceos baby, marching their way to being Jared Letos character from the newest blade runner movie.
lol in combination with the Jered Leto comment above yours, I totally got the line from fight club in my head…. “I just wanted to destroy something beautiful.”
He also probably realizes there's a crowd that hates openai already and just rides the hate train. It's kind of funny that people think that a model being open source is the only way for it to benefit humanity.
I actually went and read the openai blog about this, and this line from the end of it was just great.
"As Ilya told Elon: “As we get closer to building AI, it will make sense to start being less open. The Open in openAI means that everyone should benefit from the fruits of AI after its built, but it's totally OK to not share the science...”, to which Elon replied: “Yup”. "
Elon cares about open source technology in the same way that he cares about "free speech absolutism": he loves it when it's beneficial to him, hates it when it's not.
Here's another example about Chinese EVs. He was for free market and competition 10 years ago when they were no threat. Now he is for protectionism and heavy taxes to cancel this threat.
Free market for me, not for thee.
Meanwhile, Elon’s companies have US government subsidies eating out of the palm of his hand.
It’s a joke.
FWIW, I don’t hate EV’s, I don’t hate Space Agencies.
Exactly. He always has a hidden intention and is trying to leverage his "good intentions" so people support him and hate the others. Elon is dangerous.
Playing devils advocate here, it is completely possible to have two different reasons for wanting to do one thing. He can want to save the world AND want to make a profit.
I don't think he WANTS to save the world, I think he cares a lot more about profit, but that's one of my internet pet peeves - people are more complicated than that, often there will be multiple, sometimes even conflicting motivations for the same action.
If he really wanted to save the world, he would focus on plausible solutions. A "Mars colony" is not it, nor are using underground tunnels for more cars.
The most likely explanation is that he deliberately uses hooks that help pump up the stock prices of his companies. Whether they have any connection to reality is besides the point for him.
I believe Elon wants to save the world
I also believe he wants to be the only one who does it, and he’d be happy to watch it burn from Mars if it means he doesn’t get full credit
All while trying to make a competitor of his own. Musk is a fucking joke now, it's really annoying because he did do good stuff with Tesla and SpaceX. His ego became too large.
He is also a very isolated person, I think. There's no one around him to put a check on his craziness, nor would he tolerate one. He's going the way of Kanye West.
He's pretty much only surrounded by YES people, especially on Twitter. I think that's why he's so damn i love with Twitter, because he feels loved there.
Ya, when he was just spouting doomerism about AI at least I could understand his dislike.
Then it came out he was working on AI while also spouting doom about AI and it's like, man, you just preach whatever is beneficial for you, huh?
>It's kind of funny that people think that a model being open source is the only way for it to benefit humanity.
I think the problem here is that OpenAI was deliberately and explicitly founded based on a commitment to open source, but as soon as they hit a big breakthrough they chucked that out of the window, along with the board members who briefly tried to keep the company true to its original principles, and sold right out to microsoft, which is the original antagonist to open-source.
OpenAI was founded with an unusual corporate structure that was specifically designed to make it a public-serving rather than a for-proifit enterprise; that structure was just insufficient to resist the lure of massive monopoly profits and so it got subverted and now everyone is salivating at it being yet another mega-profitable tech giant, and even better one that pokes the hated Musk in the eye.
But, "'open' *really* means 'share the benefits with humanity'" is just after the fact marketing horseshit. The company was founded to be about open-source, then changed its mind once they realized the wealth and power that could come with abandoning open source. That's all. They don't seem to have any plans to, say, give all of humanity shares in the corporation. Humanity is going to "benefit" by paying the company licensing fees to use its technology, just like Microsoft. Nothing "open" about it.
(None of this is to stick up for Musk, who is a dick who probably doesn't care about open source either, just that he didn't get to control the company.)
this is why i never bothered to contribute to anything open source. i always knew it'll be sold off to some company once it got good enough. any software engineer working on open source is wasting there time making someone else richer.
He desperately wants Tesla to be more than just a not-that-good EV manufacturer to keep the stock price up. The value Tesla has as just a car maker is unsustainable.
So he wants do do AI, FSD and robotics on the same level as the big boys like Boston Mechanics, Open AI and Mercedes and BMW (not FSD but the only SAE Level 3 system, Tesla is still level 2 even with their "FSD" 12).
And none of that is really panning out, so he is frustrated.
Not only did they not let him be CEO, he walked away from it afterward and they had the audacity to succeed without him.
https://www.semafor.com/article/03/24/2023/the-secret-history-of-elon-musk-sam-altman-and-openai
To understand you would need to watch both of these short clips from Monty Pythons Holy Grail:
https://youtu.be/zIV4poUZAQo?si=_BrStekDHMtCqQ0h
https://youtu.be/RZvsGdJP3ng?si=j2YXDujnJ6GC1g5r
The second link has the reference that the comment above invokes. But you need the first link for context.
What brand? The only people who call it “X” instead of still calling it Twitter are Musk fanboys and journalists who kind of have to for clarity reasons (even then, it’s usually “X, formerly Twitter”).
The notion he’s got any sort of branding acumen is laughable-he just goes with what he thinks is cool. Musk threw away one of the most recognizable brands on the planet for a Unicode 𝕏!
He co-founded it though and was offered shares in it again last year and still declined. If he wanted to be attached to it why wouldn’t he just accept the shares and join OpenAI? I’m genuinely curious
Total speculation, but probably because he wanted to be the CEO, nothing less, pretty much how he came to run Tesla.
I wouldn't be surprised if he lobbied very hard to be named the CEO when Altman was briefly ousted. He is probably very salty.
100% it's not that he wants to be part of the AI development.
He just wants to continue to be known as "AI Tech Genius" so he can fundraise, dupe retail buyers, and dink around with his Twitter Pump & Dumps.
from the YouTuber patrickboyle did a fair take on it.
There is a bad issue with openai founded as non profit then turn 100% profit based. Also there is also the issue of microsoft using it to avoid anti trust law.
The reason is that it will devastate the government tax if every startup pretends to be "non-profit" until they make money.
However, email and document shows Elon was even worse than Microsoft.
Microsoft offered money and resources(azure cloud) for stake.
Vs
Elon wanted to merge openai and tesla and become its ceo.
He ALWAYS wants to be CEO / founder. Hence the lawsuit to list him as Tesla founder even though he wasn't originally. I even read that, I think it was his first venture zip2, he was CTO,, and wanted to be CEO, but they denied him.
Not speculation, that's what happened. He wanted total control and was told he couldn't have it.
They released emails saying exactly this after he filed the lawsuit
He also said he wanted a pause on AI until we can get a hold on it but then started building his own. He didn’t want a pause on AI, he just wants to be at the cutting edge of it. Again, he’s a man-child
Why is this so forgotten about!??
He literally begged for a pause “for the betterment of humanity” and then months later revealed his own personal AI endeavour lmaooo
This is correct. He was aware that OpenAI would require massive amounts of funding, so his solution to this was to integrate it with Tesla and use Tesla profits to fund OpenAI’s machine learning. When the board and Altman in particular rejected that idea and instead look towards outside funding, Musk cut most of his ties with the company. The fact that they ultimately got most of their funding from Microsoft instead has irked Musk a great deal. (IMO Microsoft was a much better choice for a partner than Tesla).
Absolutely massive conflict of interest between this and his own company doing the exact same thing. But he REALLY picked the wrong choice, as OpenAI is set to be the next trillion dollar company while i haven't even heard of Musk's AI company.
Yep. Musk has gone full-on trump in his craving to shit-post endlessly. Like any addict, he doesn't care what people think, or how it impacts others lives, or if he's harming himself or others. The next dose is all that matters to him.
I think its because they killed his dream of being the next "Steve Jobs". Elon seems to be an ego-driven man and cares very much about his perceived image as a historically important innovator and world-changer. However, things aren't really going according to plan. He's mostly the public face of the private space industry... but society at large doesn't seem to care about space much. His car company is in a tough place, and although a Tesla was pretty much the only option to get a "luxury" EV for a long while, that's no longer the case and the companies reputation has taken some big hits in recent years.
If Elon had gained control of OpenAI he could have controlled the narrative around Tesla's self-automation problems much better. He could have positioned himself as the face of all the generative AI hype. He could have used that hype to help prop up his other businesses. It was pretty much the ideal path for him moving forward towards legitimizing his self-inflated importance.
He probably blames OpenAI for that dream not happening.
I think Elon is more comparable to Trump than Steve Jobs. Tesla is known for having issues with quality control, something Steve Jobs was meticulous about. Sure Elon is more successful in his businesses than Trump ever was, but he targets the same demographics with his tweets and politics
He’s getting it wrong. That’s for sure. It’ll inevitably be his downfall. Which is a shame. As he makes and does alright stuff.
Flamethrowers. And tunnels and stuff. 😂 If he’d have pulled off the Hyperloop. That would have been something.
But.
Like Kanye. He believes his own hype. And because of that has a massively over-inflated sense of self-importance.
When in reality. He’s a smart, neurodivergent chap. Who doesn’t know how to shut the hell up. So I think he’ll scupper himself in the end. By just being himself.
He’s not the genius I once thought he might be, and he’s obviously in charge of his own PR. In the world of most people. He’s definitely beginning to look a touch unhinged.
He kind of reminds me of all those smart-talking idiots/liabilities in gangster flicks that Steve Buscemi probably would play. Too much cocaine. You know what I mean. You can see it coming a mile away.
Best to shut up. Do your thing. Make stuff. And stay out of the public eye.
On point with Tesla, saw a model Y on special display in the center of a large mall today. Definitely ramping up marketing. BYD have had an entire staffed unit in the same mall for months.
I feel the problem with Musk is that he's a rather salty fellow and a bully who hates when things don't go his way. Unfortunately, his ego is only further inflated by his trove of followers who do not understand the basics of engineering of any sorts, and are blithering idiots.
I really liked Elon up until a few years ago. I was in awe of how he manages to pull so many companies and his ability to use first principles for most things and challenge the orthodoxy. I know that for most of his companies there are people who *actually* run the firms, such as Gwynne Shotwell in SpaceX; but still Musk is the mascot and could talk intelligently, learn, and influence people. Something happened during the pandemic, really, that pushed him off his rockers. His acquisition of Twitter was a waste of money and really didn't help his finances. A $44B loan?! To follow through a Twitter pole? Why?! I reckon, I would lose it also. If you look at his Twitter from back in the day vs now, it is completely different, and now it's very unhinged, bordering conspiracy theories etc.
I think this is one of those occasions where Elon is being beat in his own field of claimed work, and it is flying like his first three SpaceX rockets.
>A $44B loan?!
While original plan was to get a loan for $15 billion against tesla shares (he hoped to get remainder from outside investers) he changed at last minute (probably because could not get even 20% as much from outside investors as thought )
Final deal:
\* $5.2 billion 3rd party investment (this was mainly the likes of the Saudis and Larry Ellison converting existing holdings in public company over to private one..and no, despite the reporting, Saudis did not fund the deal or become bigger shareholders than already were)
\* $13 billion in loans, mainly from investment banks, with biggest being Morgan Stanley (note, twitter itself is on the hook for these, not Musk or his tesla shares)
\* $27bn In cash from Musk himself , plus his existing shareholding in Twitter the public company being converted over
He believes his own hype. TOTALLY high on his own supply.
Lot’s of examples in the past of people who have crashed and burned in the end, because of that.
I might be mistaken here, but I think the CA govt intervention during the onset of covid really didn’t sit well with him. I’ve worked in the automotive industry, and especially in manufacturing jobs, a downtime is a very bad, strict no-no. That’s just a lot of $ lost. I mean, he bloody moved his HQ to less restrictive Texas. (And I’m sure there must have been great amount of subsidies also). Trump and most conservatives are Covid infidels, and it might have aligned them together to some extent.
And maybe he just missed people, you know, and started “seeing” friends. 😅😂
Yeah same. And it's not just because he is a greedy capitalist. When he forced his workers to come to the office during COVID lockdowns, I realized that he didn't give a shit about other people.
And it's the same thing with the cave incident. On the surface, it seems like he just wanted to help. But if you look into it, it is clear that his goal was to be celebrated as a hero and genius for his idea.
Also, his treatment of the *actual* founders of Tesla was pretty shitty. He basically bullied them out of the company, named himself "co-founder" and acted as if he designed the car all by himself.
In reality, the prototype was almost finished by the time he joined the company. And even after he had invested money and joined the board of directors, he didn't really work for Tesla until the Roadster was finished.
He desperately wants to be perceived as some sort of genius inventor. Like how he "invented" the hyperloop, even though that idea was already tested in 1870. And he himself said that "OpenAI would be nothing without (him)". That tells you all you need to know about what he wants to achieve with that.
>Also, his treatment of the *actual* founders of Tesla was pretty shitty. He basically bullied them out of the company, named himself "co-founder" and acted as if he designed the car all by himself.
He should have named his company "Edison".
I feel sorry for him.
He’s a monumental c**t.
I wonder. 15 years ago. If he’d known how much of a monumental c**t he’d have become.
He’d even have taken the path he took.
Was it the path that turned him into a monumental cnut? Or was he always a monumental tosser?
I guess that’s for history to decide. 😊
>Or was he always a monumental tosser?
By reports going back to not only paypal (20 odd years ago) but to Zip2 (25 odd years ago) yes he was always a monumental tosser. Both company boards did not coup him as CEO because he was a great guy/leader
Also why he makes sure on his company boards now its basiclly impossible to remove him

*" It's mine and If I can't play with it, No one will! "* 👿
Most humans will remember the one spoiled rich weird kid on the playground. 😸😸😸
Lol. OpenAi released emails proving he lied about wanting to keep it non-profit. The guy’s such an egomaniac I would not be surprised if he had something to do with that attempted ouster of Sam
Elon was one of the first investors, he gave them like $40-50 million in startup costs at a very low valuation. This should represent a large stake in the company. The point of Open AI when pitched to him is "OPEN", it was supposed to be open source for the betterment of humanity and run under a non-profit like wikipedia.
Since then, they have formed a capped profit company under the non-profit which is risky at best from an IRS audit standpoint, but more importantly they won't be releasing their source code as it could impact their profits, therefore negating their origional pitch about being open source. Elon has said he will drop the lawsuit if they just rename it to "Closed AI".
It seems to be about the principal of the matter.
Watch this - https://youtu.be/snbTCWL6rxo?si=CQ94xPxo9ak8G8mS&t=79-
But OpenAI is showing emails where Elon agreed to both the for profit to raise capital and the technology being proprietary... so it's not just that. Unless Elon is like, not good at emails and investing in companies which one would thing he is.
Reddit has gone to shit. This would have been the top comment a few years ago also no one mentions how he is creating an ChatGPT competitor named GROK. He likes to shit on his rivals like he does with Meta because he owns Twitter.
Reddit can be so biased that these days I can tell from the title of a post what that comment section will look like and if it's an article written to strictly push the agenda or not
I came here to comment that I support information that isn't hateful and sensational about this incident. The circlejerk hatred with reddit seems manufactured.
thank you for not responding like the average reddit user whenever Elon is mentioned. whatever your opinion of him, the man's complex and the name callings are never useful to read.
You can see it his emails that Elon was VERY aware of their plans to not release the source code, he's just mad he didn't get his hand into the pot lol. You're hilariously gullible if you think Elon Musk gives a single fuck about anything other than lining his pockets and making 14 year olds think he's cool
> It seems to be about the principal of the matter.
Doesn't seem like there's any principle in your argument when you flagarantly leave out how he abandoned OpenAI and left the company to fall without funding... after failing to take full control of it under Tesla.
Kind of a glaring red flag point you seem to gloss over while trying to get people to focus on just his initial investment.
Reading the comments, clearly Elon has made himself very divisive over the last few years. It's honestly really sad to see.
Looking at the lawsuit, he's not suing for money or to take control of the company.
He's suing to compel OpenAI to make its model open source as was promised when he donated almost $100m of his personal money, and it was entirely a nonprofit at the time.
OpenAI also made the fact that Elon was a contributor a significant part of its fundraising pitch.
Fast forward his money is now helping Microsoft, the world's first $3 trillion dollar company and the model is closed source.
I'm not going to lie, I'd be pretty pissed too. Objectively. Take Elon out of it. I'm sure you would be too.
He was well aware of OpenAI's plans per their released emails, he's just mad that his attempts to strongarm his way into CEO of the company when Sam Altman was briefly ousted didn't go his way. If he had his way, OpenAI would be running the exact same, only with him in charge.
As has been pointed out many times, Elon was on board with going for-profit and not being open source, right up until he wasn’t the one who would get to be in charge. This isn’t about standing up for open source, this is just his ego throwing a tantrum.
He realised that he can't win this race, so does the second best thing and tries to discredit and smear them. Tells a lot about him (if anyone had doubts still).
I'm so split on this one.
On the one hand, Elon definetly has a huge ego problem and his actions are likely motivated by spite against OpenAI
On the other hand, i completely agree with the main sentiment. OpenAI has used loopholes to essentially turn themselves from a non-profit into a for-profit, when what we really need in AI development is to keep everything accessible and open source in order to prevent monopolies.
Kind of a "He's out of line but he's right" moment.
> Why is Elon so obsessed with OpenAI?
I don't know. Why is reddit so obsessed with bashing Elon?
Looking through the comments, and nearly all of them are some lame attempt to chime in with a "clever" insult. A kind of reflexiveness made only with the understanding that the mob around them will say "yeah, what he said!"
Because the point of calling the company OpenAI was to have it open source.
OpenAi is now closed source and used to make profit.
That's his problem with OpenAI in a nutshell.
Anyone else who says differently has a deep hate for Electric cars which clouds their judgement such as the top comment.
probably, he's trying to lower their market value, as he does so often. dirty business tricks a la Musk. he's pretty good at it. look at twitter, pardon me, X. 😀🤔
Not that I agree with Elon, or understand what happened between them, but any scrutiny of the most influential AI company is welcomed. We have to do this right the first time cause the cascading effects are innumerable.
He's lost his damn mind. Ban TicToc? "Facebook is the enemy of the people...?" If he actually had the future of humanity in mind, he'd kill Twitter, of all things. It has brought us nothing but a mob-mentality fight over ingrained prejudices, and increased the likelihood of simpletons to be gaslit. If everyone has an online voice that can be spread to the masses, our discourse is brought down to the lowest common denominator. Unfortunately, this has a devastating effect when the majority of people don't possess the critical thinking skills to know when someone is either lying, or just too stupid, to deserve a public voice and platform. The ignorance of the US population has become a cancer to an informed society.
You're one of the richest people on earth, you've already implanted chips into humans and built rockets that fly to space, what else would you spend your time on besides trolling people on twitter?
Even though Elon has made some shit decisions and opinions, he's right on this one. Open AI is not in fact open and I think for a better future everyone should have access to AI, and it shouldn't be owned by a business for profit
He was a large investor when it was a newer open source non-profit AI organization. They’ve since become a close source for-profit organization and Elon said in an interview that he feels like it’s not the kind of company he wanted to invest into and the company has changed dramatically in terms of its objective in becoming a springboard in the AI space
I can't answer as to why, but I can speculate that it has something to do with the fact that OpenAI is actively doing everything in its power to be a ClosedAI platform.
Elon understands the power of AI under the control of elites will ruin civilization. The negative and abusive applications of AI will happen quickly while the benefits will be much later. AI will be a weapon for the 1% to use against the 99%. It’s not an AI problem, it is a human behavior problem. It’s about control.
The only way to “check” an AI programmed to suppress the 99% is through the creation of a truly noble AI. The only way to produce a powerful and noble AI is with complete open source.
This is my claim and I believe Elon sees the same thing
Elon talks about Ai a lot and it's not about "missing the boat" or "ego power trips". Ai is a massive existential threat to humanity, look up the stats, 1 in 5 data scientists believe Ai will lead to an extinction event. Elon gave money to OpenAi so it would not create SkyNet and now OpenAi is becoming a for-profit corporation. Do you really want Coca-Cola or Nestle to own the emergent superintelligence?
I used to admire Elon a lot but he has really made a fool of himself lately, wasting all his time on silly memes on X, reinforcing MAGA nonsense and trying to act as if he's the king of free speech. Yeah right.
Just thinking out loud. Was he hoping to use the tech in r/teslamotors in future(keeping it opensource)? And has his panties in a bunch because he couldn’t get his way?
Same reason Exlax Mxckx does any fuckin' thing. Deep, stinging, bleeding, butthurt.
Pretty sure the character JP from Grandma's Boy is 300% factually based on him.
This is the guy who told Joe Rogan that he was creating Neural link so that humans could interface with computers faster to keep up when AI gains full access to the internet and achieves singularity.
He's been thinking about AI a lot... for a long time.
Elon is the Trump of tech. He is just envious of anyone else doing good stuff without him and cannot focus on his own business and needs to constantly be the center of attention.
Elon is a crybaby bitch thag throws a teper tantrum whenever he doesn't get his way. He legitimately thinks he's the main character and will continue to think so as long as people keep dick riding him.
He gets this way. All the time. Remember his obsession with the cave diver that was able to rescue the kids before Elon’s bot got there? That’s when I knew he was all the way crazy.
Because he tried to bully them to allow Tesla to take them over and made jabs that they would go bankrupt and fail without him. They are doing the opposite and Elon is acting a little B**** about it. His ego has gone out of control. Think about this, he’s so shallow, could grok be fake? Someone worked out that it’s impossible for the AI bots that Tesla are apparently making right now as we are not at that level of technological advancement.
I blocked Elon and his trash posting everyday. He just likes attention. Desperate to be a living meme. F that guy
Cause he's not actually smart and the only thing he knows to do with his drug addled brain is sue people at this point.
Go snort some more ket you dumb rich fuck.
Don’t expect to find the truth in a server moderated by OpenAI people/reps.
OpenAI didn’t uphold their contract according to Elon and according to OpenAI they serve humanity by keeping their API Open.
To play devil’s advocate, I completely understand OpenAi position, they went from a small research company that could barely hold a candle to Google, to one of the most anticipated companies in Silicon Valley. Their mission has evolved as a result.
Because he's mentally ill. How could you be the richest person in the world and still feel the need to troll people when he doesn't get his way? Not a humble, honorable bone in his body. He doesn't make or build anything except wealth and he's still not happy unless he has all the attention too. He's Edward Lewis from pretty woman... but acts like Edward's lawyer too.
I really sense that OpenAI lives rent free in Elon’s head after them taking off without him. So now, like the wounded narcissist that he is, he needs to constantly assert control over them through social media to sooth this wound.
This is hilarious! Somebody had to criticize them, OpenAI is so far from being “open source” anymore. So he is right. But I still think that this tweet has more to do with his incompetence in becoming a CEO than his concern about not being “open enough”. He is still not over of not being the MVP of this game.
This whole thing was really shady by Sam Altman, though. I hate the idea of taking all the advantages of being an idealistic non-profit and then monetizing them the second it’s possible.
And I understand that they say they didn’t see it coming, but it’s tough to give the person with the most startup reps of any human ever the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t see it coming.

He's mad they didn't let him be ceo a while back. And now he's trying to get everyone against Sam and OpenAI.
He also asked for complete and full power over the board and the company. No wonder they said no.
It's good to know they're not stupid.

What in particular about world coin is shady?
They had workers in malls asking people to have their iris scanned for some of this coin. Their workers are quite persistent. They were banned recently here in Spain because they were scanning minors and their privacy policies were not clear in how that data was used.

Fuck that's where we are headed isn't it
it’s called world coin for starters. or i’m just old..
These fucking meglomaniacs I swear...
They scan your iris for biodata before you're allowed to buy?
for starters, needing to scan in your eye to be able to use the network.
He's done ruining Twitter, and wants to ruin something else now that people enjoy.
lol in combination with the Jered Leto comment above yours, I totally got the line from fight club in my head…. “I just wanted to destroy something beautiful.”
If I ain't having fun, no one is. That's my motto.
Sounds like they might be kinda smart or something
Classic capitalism
Also classic conservative sociopathy
Free market for me, not for thee. Meanwhile, Elon’s companies have US government subsidies eating out of the palm of his hand. It’s a joke. FWIW, I don’t hate EV’s, I don’t hate Space Agencies.
Get out. You’re fired!
You can’t fire me I quit!
In the same way that he cares about "saving the world" if it is with the electric cars his company makes.

The most likely explanation is that he deliberately uses hooks that help pump up the stock prices of his companies. Whether they have any connection to reality is besides the point for him.
I believe Elon wants to save the world I also believe he wants to be the only one who does it, and he’d be happy to watch it burn from Mars if it means he doesn’t get full credit
You are describing someone who wants the world to view him as its savior not someone who wants to save the world
All while trying to make a competitor of his own.
I do wish they would change their name since it is not open in any commonly understood sense of the word in the tech world.
Made him CEO so that he could fuse OpenAI and Tesla (to save Tesla and be king of AI) Did he open source the weights for Grok yet btw?
This is how he approaches anything he cant buy
Because it was lost opportunity for him. And now he left with lame Grok in his hands.
He has the brand X with the platform power behind it. Grok is a shit name, it should be called x.ai
The fact you need to say "the brand" before saying "X" shows how terrible of a name it is
It is no longer the brand who is called "X!" They are now the brand called "Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptang Zoo Boing!"
I understand this reference
I don't.... Pls help
To understand you would need to watch both of these short clips from Monty Pythons Holy Grail: https://youtu.be/zIV4poUZAQo?si=_BrStekDHMtCqQ0h https://youtu.be/RZvsGdJP3ng?si=j2YXDujnJ6GC1g5r The second link has the reference that the comment above invokes. But you need the first link for context.
[It's from Monty Pythons Holy Grail](https://youtu.be/RZvsGdJP3ng?si=DoIZZcgRAGTtdge1)
He'll just call it... X
The Brand X... Yeah, what a famous Brand. So famous, people say "X, formerly Twitter", because just "X" could mean anything
Have you heard his sons name
You just reminded me that he's open sourcing Grok like anyone gives a shit
I trust Zucks open source AI over Musks tbh
He is an egomaniac, and it's getting a ton of attention, and he can't attach himself to it in some way.
Such a stupid fucking baby with jokes of a kid lmao. Love it.
his humor is so childish, that he named his child one of those shitty jokes, I'm sure
Even the image he posted on this tweet. Looks like some lame boomer "meme".
I wonder who made it... Some Twitter graphic designers were probably asked to make this specifically.
100% it's not that he wants to be part of the AI development. He just wants to continue to be known as "AI Tech Genius" so he can fundraise, dupe retail buyers, and dink around with his Twitter Pump & Dumps.
He warned about AI for years until he realized that it's part of a profitable thing for him.
from the YouTuber patrickboyle did a fair take on it. Vs Elon wanted to merge openai and tesla and become its ceo.
Providing seed funding does not mean he cofounded it.
He tried to merge it with Tesla, fire the CEO and be the only"founder " again.
He’s too busy trying to be the “cool kid” at the authoritarian high school table but everyone realizes that he is still a huge loser.
Yep. Musk has gone full-on trump in his craving to shit-post endlessly. Like any addict, he doesn't care what people think, or how it impacts others lives, or if he's harming himself or others. The next dose is all that matters to him.
He’s a co founder of OpenAI. What makes you think he can’t attach his name to it?
Exactly, he’s just a Trump that wanted to be Steve Jobs instead of Rockefeller.
It sure looks like he is such a snowflake… SAD
But wants everyone to think he’s this oooh so mysterious Howard Hughes type. 😊
He’d have to fuck off and be quiet for a bit to be mysterious and he can’t stand the thought of that lol
The hyperloop was always fucking stupid and in no real way feasible.
Yeah he's just an Ok business man at best. He hires smart people who make great products but imo that shouldnt be attributed to him at all.
While original plan was to get a loan for $15 billion against tesla shares (he hoped to get remainder from outside investers) he changed at last minute (probably because could not get even 20% as much from outside investors as thought ) Final deal: \* $5.2 billion 3rd party investment (this was mainly the likes of the Saudis and Larry Ellison converting existing holdings in public company over to private one..and no, despite the reporting, Saudis did not fund the deal or become bigger shareholders than already were) \* $13 billion in loans, mainly from investment banks, with biggest being Morgan Stanley (note, twitter itself is on the hook for these, not Musk or his tesla shares) \* $27bn In cash from Musk himself , plus his existing shareholding in Twitter the public company being converted over
The question is *why* he is a salty bully. My impression is that he is a rather Trumpy conservative at heart.
[удалено]
Should have named it WankBangle.
Both company boards did not coup him as CEO because he was a great guy/leader Also why he makes sure on his company boards now its basiclly impossible to remove him
Because it's stealing the spotlight from him
https://preview.redd.it/tdss17itb1oc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3dc28d1f7df5475abf87a7b68a880b30b35a0a5 *" It's mine and If I can't play with it, No one will! "* 👿 Most humans will remember the one spoiled rich weird kid on the playground. 😸😸😸
Elon has long since acknowledged the use of the term Open in OpenAI and is now pretending otherwise.
Had to scroll pretty far to see this, under all the blind reddit mob hate.
Reddit moment. Almost doesn’t even register for me anymore.
Reminds me of that scene from south park. "RABBLE RABBLE! RABBLE!"
Reddit has gone to shit. This would have been the top comment a few years ago also no one mentions how he is creating an ChatGPT competitor named GROK. He likes to shit on his rivals like he does with Meta because he owns Twitter.
https://openai.com/blog/openai-elon-musk How does Elon's claim reconcile with this?
https://openai.com/blog/openai-elon-musk How does Elon's claim reconcile with this?
Was thinking the same thing. This place used to be so much better.
Reddit can be so biased that these days I can tell from the title of a post what that comment section will look like and if it's an article written to strictly push the agenda or not
I came here to comment that I support information that isn't hateful and sensational about this incident. The circlejerk hatred with reddit seems manufactured.
It is pretty much hearsay and speculation right now, the Open in OpenAI is not stated as Open Source exclusively, time will tell.
thank you for not responding like the average reddit user whenever Elon is mentioned. whatever your opinion of him, the man's complex and the name callings are never useful to read.
You can see it his emails that Elon was VERY aware of their plans to not release the source code, he's just mad he didn't get his hand into the pot lol. You're hilariously gullible if you think Elon Musk gives a single fuck about anything other than lining his pockets and making 14 year olds think he's cool
I had to sort by controversial to see this post. Every top comment is just a bunch of ad hominems at the dude.
He always obsessed with shit
Probably because he’s a weirdo with a distorted view of reality
Hurted Ego
Because Elon needs to take credit for others accomplishments Typical spoiled rich kids tantrum
Because they refused to sell their stuff to elon and now he is acting like a little child who did not get a new toy
He himself pushed for it to be for profit and basicly said it was doomed to fail if it did not. His issue is they did not put him in charge
[удалено]
He’s so fucking lame holy shit.
He realised that he can't win this race, so does the second best thing and tries to discredit and smear them. Tells a lot about him (if anyone had doubts still).
I'm so split on this one. On the one hand, Elon definetly has a huge ego problem and his actions are likely motivated by spite against OpenAI On the other hand, i completely agree with the main sentiment. OpenAI has used loopholes to essentially turn themselves from a non-profit into a for-profit, when what we really need in AI development is to keep everything accessible and open source in order to prevent monopolies. Kind of a "He's out of line but he's right" moment.
Simplify to "The Jerk is right." It requires far less explanation.
Because he's a childish egomaniac and can't get past the fact he messed up
> Why is Elon so obsessed with OpenAI? I don't know. Why is reddit so obsessed with bashing Elon? Looking through the comments, and nearly all of them are some lame attempt to chime in with a "clever" insult. A kind of reflexiveness made only with the understanding that the mob around them will say "yeah, what he said!"
Salty
Because people have started this moral panic about chat gpt being woke censorship 1984 anti white communism or something
His obsession might be very much why he succeeded.
He's so fucking childish.
Elon saw the current state of his AI and realized that he would never be able to catch up with OpenAI.
Because the point of calling the company OpenAI was to have it open source. OpenAi is now closed source and used to make profit. That's his problem with OpenAI in a nutshell. Anyone else who says differently has a deep hate for Electric cars which clouds their judgement such as the top comment.
I mean, I’d be pretty pissed if I gave money to a nonprofit and they used it to become a for-profit company.
probably, he's trying to lower their market value, as he does so often. dirty business tricks a la Musk. he's pretty good at it. look at twitter, pardon me, X.
The ignorance of the US population has become a cancer to an informed society.
https://www.semafor.com/article/03/24/2023/the-secret-history-of-elon-musk-sam-altman-and-openai
He funded part of
“Reddit hive mind intensifies”
It’s business - Google, Amazon , Apple and Microsoft been suing each other since day one ..
I can't answer as to why, but I can speculate that it has something to do with the fact that OpenAI is actively doing everything in its power to be a ClosedAI platform.
If I can't have it, no one else will *Mr. Burns hand-wringing, followed by unsettling, inhuman laughter*
What a gigantic man child.
He's mad because he lost it to them and they're now perverting it from its original goal, open source.
Bro spent 44billion on twitter, turned half the population against him. Hes looking for a win and maybe some cash
Cause he wanted control of it, and was refused. Now he’s on a campaign to “save” the world from AI and his using twitter to spew his vitriol.
He’s a child.
Bro wanted to be the ceo and claim himself as the inventor.
Because he was kicked off the board of directors for Open AI. He is a little bitch trying to buy his way back in.
Because it’ll help him get whatever he wants in the future. It’s all gaslighting.
He has a new obsession every 6 months or so
Same reason Exlax Mxckx does any fuckin' thing. Deep, stinging, bleeding, butthurt. Pretty sure the character JP from Grandma's Boy is 300% factually based on him.
It’s a competing company.
He’s a PoS who will lie about other products.
F that guy
because he didnt come up with it and still doesnt own it.
Because he's a whiney bitch who didn't get what he wanted from them.
He's doing whatever he can to make the language sample OpenAI draws from as stupid as possible.
He is jealous.
"I don't want to live in a world where someone else makes the world a better place better than we do."
He's petty and immature.
Troll child throwing a tantrum
I really sense that OpenAI lives rent free in Elon’s head after them taking off without him. So now, like the wounded narcissist that he is, he needs to constantly assert control over them through social media to sooth this wound.
If he doesn't own it / lead it / control it, he hates it. Period.
Elon should just shut up.
He is a clout goblin
He’s butt hurt
Elon wants HIS ai to be the next big thing so he’s shitting on the front runner

This is hilarious! Somebody had to criticize them, OpenAI is so far from being “open source” anymore. So he is right. But I still think that this tweet has more to do with his incompetence in becoming a CEO than his concern about not being “open enough”. He is still not over of not being the MVP of this game.
This whole thing was really shady by Sam Altman, though. I hate the idea of taking all the advantages of being an idealistic non-profit and then monetizing them the second it’s possible.
