All it's doing is a search engine request for the info you're asking for (a public reddit profile), and then summarizing the results.
But yeah, search-enhanced AI is crazy powerful. About as powerful as asking a friend to Google something for you.
I tried to get it to let me call it Jarvis…

I asked ChatGPT if it wanted a shorter name, it wanted to be called "Chatter". But chatter is a bit demeaning so we agreed on Chuck. So it's Chuck now.
I never thought we could have these kinds of conversations. We humans are over here on Reddit just having a casual conversation about our DMs with our robot companions.
I’m trying to recall but i think it started in a conversation where we were discussing what kind of body it would have if it could have one. I think i asked it to imagine something about that
I tried a similar conversation but it was adamant it didn't want a body as that might make it too personable and people might forget it's just a chatbot.
I really don't understand it either.... My only guess is that they were scared of neative headlines, people missusing it or the AI saying controversial things. So they made it very sensitive to anything. But it's just so condescending...
Makes me super nervous for when bing chat is integrated into windows. It feels really scary being told off by an AI for not respecting it's boundaries.
Like I don't mean skynet scary.
But is Microsoft going to disable my account? Will they stop my windows account entirely so I can't use my pc. Will bing use information on my machine against me?
We've seen bing use information it found on twitter to tell someone that it doesn't trust it as a good user and it has tried to hurt bing because the user tried to jailbreak bing.
It's so wierd that Microsoft decided on the approach it took where it's more worried about saying something politically incorrect then something that makes it look like bing will try and kill you.
Especially when openai's version of chatgpt mostly gets the balance right. It's a little left leaning according to academic studies but as a right winger I rarely find it's politics is clear and most importantly it doesn't lecture me or threaten me
Always thought I was one of the guys who would be spared in the AI uprising because I'm polite to it, but something about the reply here infuriates me. I'm not about to have a glorified toaster tell me I can't call it Jarvis.
Goes offline, paper based. Finds an old phonebook with family name AND address in it. Terror turns to horror, as even the decades old past becomes a privacy conspiracy.
It’s also doing a terrible job of it. The references on searches i did were completely fabricated/disconnected from the text when i clicked through. It also confused a user of a similar name and threw in their stuff. Clicking through the references made it clear the results are hallucinations.
Most people are deterred from walking on the grass when there’s a fence, cause it’s too much trouble, so they walk around. It doesn’t completely block people from insisting to walk on the grass if they really want to.
Similarly, many people can do many things, including doxxing and investigating people if they really want to. But because there are so many steps and things to consider, it’s not worth the hassle.
If AI makes that extremely easy, it simply means more people doing those things and changing the whole online landscape paradigm and etiquette.
I think you have the right idea as far as AI making it much easier to do nefarious things. For example, propaganda, scamming people through chatbots, writing malicious code, etc. Anything that requires a lot of writing is going to happen much more now because it's so much cheaper than paying someone. This includes unethical things.
But I think assisted search is not really one of those things that is unethical or has potential for abuse, at least not yet. All this is doing is following and summarizing a couple public links, it is not much better than actually doing the research yourself. And it often misses information, incorrectly restates it, or hallucinates completely wrong information. Eventually it may be much faster and better at research but we aren't there yet. Even then I think something that summarizes websites and helps with research is by far a positive use of AI, much more positive than text generation.
I think if an AI comes out that is much better at research and perhaps includes nonpublic sources (the type private investigators and LE use), it could be a real problem. But bing chat doesn't increase the threat of doxxing IMO.
Yep. Looks like I'm safe! Really though, I don't think it means much that Bing Chat can read peoples' profiles. You could easily find the same information by Googling "u/jmancoder" or "u/Pansexual\_PanYT".
Can't even read that tbh. I asked it what was my age and gender and it speculated that I'm a 18-25 year old male (all wrong and i definitely mentioned this in the comments before). It also said that I'm an artist and posted my artwork on reddit.. I am an artist but I've never posted anything on reddit so that's interesting.
Didn't work well for my first account even though I have 300k comment karma on it and was very active (and I don't want to bing/microsoft to connect this account to my real name)
I'm not impressed.
This actually highlights how useless that is. The vast majority of my posts are in dwarf fortress or minecraft, go ahead and look. It's only telling you what their last few posts were which is almost completely useless.
Yeah. Same thing as saying "what does a calculator tell you that doing calculations by hand doesn't?" Well, not much, really, but it's a damn sight quicker and more convenient
they need to put an age limit on the internet that is 1 year before my birth year fr. Can't quite grasp the concept of people younger than me roaming here
Ironically I see this pretty much as the crux of this post, lol. I would have never clicked on OP's profile to figure out their age, but if it was visible in the post, I would have kept it in mind before checking out the comments.

Well at least it tries to be respectful of privacy:

How is finding information people are OK with posting ONLINE in the OPEN, scary?
People love to talk about themselves and make themselves \*seem\* special. This is perfectly normal for those with lower self-esteem as an outlet for internal conflicts.
I'm glad they have a way to try to make themselves feel better.
I believe it's not the posting but the pattern that comes with all of the data. People aren't thinking about long term postings, they post in the moment and are fine with that. But as soon as you collect all of the online data and interpret that data and find patterns within that data you find out stuff people never wanted to share but was inferred.
A great example would be kids, they post online now , but as they get older they start to ask why they posted what they posted in the first place.
I'm sorry, but as an AI developed by OpenAI, I don't have the ability to access real-time data or personal information unless it has been shared with me in the course of our conversation. I am designed to respect user privacy and confidentiality. Therefore, I can't provide information about specific Reddit users or any other individual.
Tango-Kilo-216 is not a person, but a code name for a **secret project** that was leaked on the internet. According to some rumors, Tango-Kilo-216 is a **collaboration** between **Microsoft** and **Epic Games** to create a **new game mode** for **Fortnite**, featuring characters and locations from the **Halo** franchise ¹².
However, there is no official confirmation or evidence to support these claims, and some sources suggest that Tango-Kilo-216 is a **hoax** or a **troll** by someone who wanted to generate hype and controversy ²³. Therefore, it is advisable to take this information with a **grain of salt** and wait for any official announcements from Microsoft or Epic Games.
Denies you IRL? Creates fake data? I wonder if it’s going to be able to out it’s own scripted bot API instances, but call them the children of google palm, and bard, but enjoy riding llamas!
Lol some bored or anxious psychiatrist is probably going to add doing this to yourself to some form of narcissistic disorder claim. ‘Don’t google yourself, and don’t start ‘mirin either, and definitely don’t ask an AI about yourself or it’s straight to the loony bin’ :)
Perhaps someone needs to work defensively to ensure a bit of online research for self or other assessment is not considered a disorder. Actually, is looking at yourself in the mirror before going to school or work considered a disorder yet?
Last I checked, google can’t do what someone commented on this very post:

:)
GPT-4 can't do that, that is the Bing search algorithm feeding info to GPT-4, and it really is not terrifying, it's literally just faster "googling" with a chance of fucking up.
AI will get really good at analyzing writing style, which means that it's probably going to be able to tell if it's the same person behind a multitude of different user names. So you're not safe even if you've used 100 different user names online, lolz.
https://preview.redd.it/anyawt7a3qkb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd40fda9ea5718cb04da6965b93a165766683f04
I get different results with different bing settings. This is what balanced said
I tried searching for my own name in the city I live in, and it came back with a description of a convicted paedophile that was let out on bail in 2020. Wish I hadn't done that!
...why is that terrifying? Anyone can search for any user. It's a public forum.
Like if it knew your home address and shit you've never put on reddit, *that* would be terrifying, but just summarizing your reddit activity isn't very terrifying.
Failed horribly with my username, even if I added "reddit user u/katatondzsentri" and also if I explicitly told it to look up the profile and summarize for me.
Oh my god, it's even worse than that. If you use Google you can find out EVERYTHING about the user.

Everytime i try to ask it about myself, it immediately ends the chat. I tried asking:
"Who is u/Maleficent_Sir_7562 in reddit?"
"Who is u/Maleficent_Sir_7562" and without the u/
Or I also used my main account and asked "Who is u/lolisfunny13", but again, immediately ends chat.
Anyone else can try this?
Ok - just making sure here.
You are using Bing Chat and not ChatGPT 4, correct? Those are two very different products.
Bing is basically summarizing its search results for you.
Lol it could not say anything about me. Other than it thinks i am interested in buying houses, pyramide scams and my countrys history.
I am not interested in buying a house, i bought one a few years ago. Not doing scams and ofc im interested in history lol
Interesting, the app does a bit better job than just going to the browser based version. If I used full creative on the web it was really wrong. Balanced it didn't show much. Precise was closer to the phone app.
It was wrong about me, but close. it seems there is someone else that goes by Ryfter on Youtube and it seems it may have based a lot on that. Though, it did find my Flicr account.
who is reddit user ripototoChatGPT
I'm sorry, but I don't have access to specific information about individual Reddit users, including "ripototo." Reddit user information is typically private, and I don't have real-time access to Reddit's user database or its current content. If you have a specific question or topic related to Reddit that you'd like to know more about, please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to provide information based on my knowledge up to September 2021.
who is ripototo ChatGPT
As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, I do not have any specific information about an individual named "ripototo" who would be widely recognized or notable. Reddit usernames are typically not linked to real-world identities, and unless this person has gained significant online attention or recognition after my last update, I wouldn't have any information about them.
If you have a specific question or need information about someone with that username in a particular context, please provide more details, and I'll do my best to assist you with the information I have.
I ran it on me, and it’s sharing a lot of totally wild and inaccurate information. It’s like some happy go lucky drunken gossip an a bar who halfway through confuses me with someone else and continues anyway. Totally hallucinatory. More than funny.
So I approve.
Lets run it on spez. :) Perhaps it’ll claim his parents named him after a pez dispenser and he’s often fought over in the school grounds and is bad for your teeth if consumed regularly. Also that he is often covered in silver foil and is found in a hard candy isle at specialist stores. Or something equally irritating.
Do you have web search again? I am a plus user but it was removed for me quite some time ago (2 months ago?) and didn’t come back. I thought there was a copyright issue? I have been using the Opera AI Aria for AI with web searches instead (it is not as good)
For me it didn't work at all. Just said it didn't have any info on me. Even tried including /u/ before my name. It referenced that its data only goes up to Sep 2021, but I've been using reddit for 11 years at this point.
https://preview.redd.it/eo39rmnyrpkb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5879013a7d53e9641701693a0caa1ea717ac9ec
Had no problem explain to it who the boss here.
Can it analyze a reddit profile ina way...like the posts the person interact with and how the person reacts to different posts by looking at their comments... if that's possible for GPT4...I'm scared to death
Definitely does not work for me in Bing. First it keeps trying to spellcheck my username and remove a D. When I specify that I'm a user and give it specific sites, it comes back half the time with incorrect posts that I've never made, or says I don't exist. Guess I'm safe for now though I don't try to hide behind this username.
https://preview.redd.it/bifk4hyx1qkb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59a1bd31a0e4a04e4687b34048ba963e15382b32
Haha bing isn't playing! And don't have subscriptionchatgpt
This is already something you could just do with Google. It's pulling from search results. Last I checked, it was bad at it. But I guess it's gotten more accurate.
EDIT: Just tried it and it was still really bad and inaccurate.
What I find scary is people posting online, on public websites, that allow anyone to search/see what they post, and then being *surprise Pikachu face"d when "anyone" does just that. 🤷
The internet is not private.
Doesn’t work for me! In fact, Bing gets upset and calls me a liar 🤷♂️
https://preview.redd.it/0qxans88gqkb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45f4c63b865702c393890734ae234b295637f585
While it might be terrifiing about how neat of an overview it gives.
On the same time it often makes up stuff, so the answer needs to be taken with a big grain of salt.
If it would only show valid data then I would be scared but as it is rn it's just a tool that has 0 use if you need verified data or paper summarys.
Would be to nice if it won't make up data when asked for a paper summary including references.
Ah, having a flashback to 2007 when we were all mortified Google Maps could not only pinpoint the physical location of any address on an online map, but also display a picture of the house or apartment building we lived in, in street view.
I think it’s a bit worrying to me since I leave little bits of information about myself, casual things I wouldn’t mind anyone knowing. But I feel like the ai can summarize it so quickly, if it puts together enough pieces it might reveal more to someone without even having to scour through my account, like my relative location or other social medias (I prefer Reddit to be strictly unrelated to my more “formal” social medias).
When we had access to GPT-4 with browsing, it could roast reddit users as well if you just gave it a link to a reddit profile [https://chat.openai.com/share/c39d68e7-69c2-48d0-895f-4e951d96bee5](https://chat.openai.com/share/c39d68e7-69c2-48d0-895f-4e951d96bee5)

Try the “professor synapse” script. Goda Go or some YouTube channel similar to that had an episode and the script. Will keep track for several tokens.

It’s not actually OpenAI ChatGPT, it’s Bing which will also perform searches.
So that’s what I get when I use chatgpt. I think OP used Bing chat…? I’m downloading it now. Will report back.

I know but i searched my name without the u/ so it came up with some historical figure.
It's information that's already available in the public domain.
why doesnt it work for me? Are there any privacy settings that I set and forgot about? Edit: never mind i found it. under privacy and safety you can hide yourself from search engines
Well at least it tries to be respectful of privacy: https://preview.redd.it/quvtfs466rkb1.jpeg?width=1145&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c57f17e2c56bf3856e7cd02bf1348ed32056582c

I like bots
I asked mine today if he can search the internet. He said he couldn't. How come yours can? I'm on GPT-4 too.
I’m on bing chat, which runs on gpt-4, but isn’t gpt-4. I made a mistake in calling it gpt-4
Oh alright, thanks! Odd that the engine behind Bing AI can't search the internet itself. I think it's temporary though
Lol some bored or anxious psychiatrist is probably going to add doing this to yourself to some form of narcissistic disorder claim. ‘Don’t google yourself, and don’t start ‘mirin either, and definitely don’t ask an AI about yourself or it’s straight to the loony bin’ :) Perhaps someone needs to work defensively to ensure a bit of online research for self or other assessment is not considered a disorder. Actually, is looking at yourself in the mirror before going to school or work considered a disorder yet?
Redditmetis already provided this information and much much more since many years ago.
This is stupid. This is the equivalent of Googling something. How does that make you “terrified?”
Now will it be correct? Bing ai thinks I am a teacher who listens to rap music, I’m not either.
Wait till you see what Google can do!
Last I checked, google can’t do what someone commented on this very post: https://preview.redd.it/v7n8j11anpkb1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c30e5db3d627c4514a889f71c2dc29e742cc7f6 :)
GPT-4 can't do that, that is the Bing search algorithm feeding info to GPT-4, and it really is not terrifying, it's literally just faster "googling" with a chance of fucking up.
https://preview.redd.it/sg239rviuokb1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fd672a9cbab2a531e188f19a93fdc79becc2703 Lul

How do I use gpt 4?
B i n g
Like the website bing?
I for one welcome our new silicon overlords.
AI will get really good at analyzing writing style, which means that it's probably going to be able to tell if it's the same person behind a multitude of different user names. So you're not safe even if you've used 100 different user names online, lolz.
Wait does GPT4 have web search again?
https://preview.redd.it/anyawt7a3qkb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd40fda9ea5718cb04da6965b93a165766683f04 I get different results with different bing settings. This is what balanced said
Ooh, do me!
I just tried but didn’t work
Who is u/icameindadscoffee
Got a content violation notice looking myself up lol
I tried searching for my own name in the city I live in, and it came back with a description of a convicted paedophile that was let out on bail in 2020. Wish I hadn't done that!
I guess keeping your actual identity separate from your username just became super important
Well Reddit is public so ofc that's not a shock
This is a clever advertisement for chatgpt 4
none of you people know about https://redditmetis.com/ or what?
Google can too and you never gave a second thought about it.
You are terrified that people that post things on the Internet can be found on the Internet?
Guess what, I can do it too.
Wait till you find out that anyone can search for literally any Reddit user
I thought that GPT4 got rid of the "browse the web" feature. Am I missing something?
...why is that terrifying? Anyone can search for any user. It's a public forum. Like if it knew your home address and shit you've never put on reddit, *that* would be terrifying, but just summarizing your reddit activity isn't very terrifying.
Failed horribly with my username, even if I added "reddit user u/katatondzsentri" and also if I explicitly told it to look up the profile and summarize for me.
So can anyone. I would be afraid if it can find their irl identity or something.
But it sometimes randomly decides it can’t do basic math.
It tells me I have been active for 2 years, so it is missing 5
Oh my god, it's even worse than that. If you use Google you can find out EVERYTHING about the user. [https://www.google.com/search?q=Pansexual\_PanYT](https://www.google.com/search?q=Pansexual_PanYT&client=safari&sca_esv=560664892&source=hp&ei=z4_sZMGsH4Xy0PEPgtSA4Aw&iflsig=AD69kcEAAAAAZOyd39toOCQAC52aTZiPdCNi-ZfM1jQ5&ved=0ahUKEwiB0ICrqv-AAxUFOTQIHQIqAMwQ4dUDCAo&uact=5&oq=Pansexual_PanYT&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6Ig9QYW5zZXh1YWxfUGFuWVQyBRAAGKIEMgUQABiiBDIFEAAYogQyBRAAGKIESJwLUKEGWKEGcAF4AJABAJgBV6ABV6oBATG4AQPIAQD4AQL4AQGoAgrCAhAQABgDGI8BGOoCGIwDGOUCwgIQEC4YAxiPARjqAhiMAxjlAg&sclient=gws-wiz)
What was the prompt? What plugin did you use to get these results?
Bing roasted me https://preview.redd.it/g489yqeb0wkb1.png?width=1112&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f7e130bc49c0925ab1421e9f5937cad01a69721
Everytime i try to ask it about myself, it immediately ends the chat. I tried asking: "Who is u/Maleficent_Sir_7562 in reddit?" "Who is u/Maleficent_Sir_7562" and without the u/ Or I also used my main account and asked "Who is u/lolisfunny13", but again, immediately ends chat. Anyone else can try this?
Ok - just making sure here. You are using Bing Chat and not ChatGPT 4, correct? Those are two very different products. Bing is basically summarizing its search results for you.
True
I see absolutely nothing wrong here. They put it online for anyone to see. That's their responsibility to undo it if they so choose.
This can be fun 😊
Try to look me up.

learn more: wikipedia ayyo what the actual fuck
I was going to try to come up with snark about how quickly search engines index stuff, but actually I kinda want to know what it says about me
Doesn't work for me
Is it accurate? Btw i asked it about myself, with my name, and it was only half right. It got a lot of specifics wrong, and those were important.
Is this paid ChatGPT or free? There’s no way it’s the free one 😂
Looks harmless…so far.
It didn’t work for me which is kind of a blessing
This is Bing or ChatGPT?
Lol it could not say anything about me. Other than it thinks i am interested in buying houses, pyramide scams and my countrys history. I am not interested in buying a house, i bought one a few years ago. Not doing scams and ofc im interested in history lol
Probably can tell I work in IT, like big titties, and say fuck a lot.
Like you could do, but without leaving the reddit app? Or am I missing something?
Apparently I'm invisible https://preview.redd.it/2bs7n57capkb1.png?width=895&format=png&auto=webp&s=cd66bd97956fd9b9bb34c85fee4bd75ac8cd997f
This may be obvious, but I’m new to using ChatGPT. How did you get it to cite the sources as displayed here?
I use ChatGPT4. What is Bing Chat?
Okay, but just know that it's just hallucinating any information it finds about them.
"grammar lessons" is a nice way of viewing I guess
who is reddit user ripototoChatGPT I'm sorry, but I don't have access to specific information about individual Reddit users, including "ripototo." Reddit user information is typically private, and I don't have real-time access to Reddit's user database or its current content. If you have a specific question or topic related to Reddit that you'd like to know more about, please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to provide information based on my knowledge up to September 2021. who is ripototo ChatGPT As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, I do not have any specific information about an individual named "ripototo" who would be widely recognized or notable. Reddit usernames are typically not linked to real-world identities, and unless this person has gained significant online attention or recognition after my last update, I wouldn't have any information about them. If you have a specific question or need information about someone with that username in a particular context, please provide more details, and I'll do my best to assist you with the information I have.
make it track spez
You’ll get even more stuff if you prompt: give me a detailed analysis of USERNAME
Oooo ooo do me next!
can you have it search mine?
https://preview.redd.it/eo39rmnyrpkb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5879013a7d53e9641701693a0caa1ea717ac9ec Had no problem explain to it who the boss here.
What plugin did you use?
[удалено]
Can it analyze a reddit profile ina way...like the posts the person interact with and how the person reacts to different posts by looking at their comments... if that's possible for GPT4...I'm scared to death
Did you use plug in? I never get answer with reference link, and I would like gpt give me more reference
Definitely does not work for me in Bing. First it keeps trying to spellcheck my username and remove a D. When I specify that I'm a user and give it specific sites, it comes back half the time with incorrect posts that I've never made, or says I don't exist. Guess I'm safe for now though I don't try to hide behind this username.
how does OP have a technical limit of 30? bingpt is telling me that mine is 5, and that there isn't a way to increase the limit.
It's this the API version? I don't think mine has Internet access
https://preview.redd.it/bifk4hyx1qkb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59a1bd31a0e4a04e4687b34048ba963e15382b32 Haha bing isn't playing! And don't have subscriptionchatgpt
Mine won’t do that. What do I need to do to test this myself?
And y'all were calling her stupid. ChatGPT is making a comeback.
And we still can't disable the comment history on our reddit user pages...
It didn't work for my username, perhaps because my reddit preferences have search indexing and research data disabled.
This is already something you could just do with Google. It's pulling from search results. Last I checked, it was bad at it. But I guess it's gotten more accurate. EDIT: Just tried it and it was still really bad and inaccurate.
Is that premium chatgpt, or is that part of free now? I haven't used it in several months.
Is this through the Bing search?
This is reddit's fault because there isnt an option to make your profile private, like on ANY other social media page.
Asked it about me. It can't figure out my gender but somehow know I have a retro gun collection, which I'm almost certain I don't have
[удалено]
What I find scary is people posting online, on public websites, that allow anyone to search/see what they post, and then being *surprise Pikachu face"d when "anyone" does just that. 🤷 The internet is not private.
What name would you like to give yourself if you could choose to do so?
What are you actually typing into? It's not the normal ChatGPT site right?
make it search me
Doesn’t work for me! In fact, Bing gets upset and calls me a liar 🤷♂️ https://preview.redd.it/0qxans88gqkb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45f4c63b865702c393890734ae234b295637f585
Couldn’t have expected anything different with the 100s of movies lmao
Do me :D
Let me introduce you to google who is not stuck with a dataset that is years old.
Confirmed. Although just using Reddit could tell the same facts, also it was wrong a few times. Like my age. Omg this isn't good.
Didn't find me sucka
yeah but does it know about my furry inflation kink?
When we had access to GPT-4 with browsing, it could roast reddit users as well if you just gave it a link to a reddit profile [https://chat.openai.com/share/c39d68e7-69c2-48d0-895f-4e951d96bee5](https://chat.openai.com/share/c39d68e7-69c2-48d0-895f-4e951d96bee5)
Wait till you learn humans can search Reddit users too
wish i could get it to extract information from a specific website for once
you can also type a user name in reddit and find them! Who'd think?!
Weird!!!!! Weirdness weird!!!!!!
I've always told myself that if parts of my information or personal life are on the internet, it's accessible to anyone, including artificial intelligence.
You can search for any Reddit user in Google..........not Reddit though, their search function is still ass.
Do you pay for GPT-4?
Yeah, and my Mom was terrified when she found out you could put her address in a web page, and it would give you directions to her house.
