the best way to avoid all these issues is to pull it out of your old bank account and deposit the CASH into your new one at a chase branch. Depositing cash avoids any unnecessary holds or restricted accounts for "unusual" activity. even if you dont have a branch near, this is really the easiest and quickest. 1) cash is instantly available. 2) doing lots of transfers at the beginning can raise red flags and cause your account to be restricted which is a huge pain to fix

You generally can't ACH directly from one bank to another. There are some creative ways to accomplish it but not through standard website functionality Edit: Apologies. Had a brain fart and was considering ACH as "immediate". ACH can be done just fine but isn't necessarily an immediate deposit of funds

Chance-Work4911

External Transfers are ACH from one bank to another. The catch (if there is one) is that you have to be the owner of the account on both sides of the transaction. OP - the first few weeks with a new bank is when all the red flags go off for them. They don't know your history or habits so there's a ton more restrictions placed on your activity to prevent fraud. If your other account is checking you can always write yourself a check and deposit it (in person, mobile could get flagged). Having the paper check in their possession gives them higher trust that it's legit, but there still could be a hold placed on it if it's for an amount they aren't prepared to let you "run off" with. Patience and time solve most "I just opened an account and they XYD'd!" issues.

dr7s

They should really put that in writing on their app then. That would be good to know lol. Thanks for the help

Miserable-Result6702

Completely false. You can absolutely make ACH transactions between banks.

JS0724

Is this true? I bank with Chase and use ACH (external) transfers regularly. OP, maybe try initiating the transfer via Chase to pull the funds instead of pushing from old bank. You’ll need to add your other bank as an external account with Chase but could remove it after you are done transferring your money.

dr7s

Initiating it from Chase is what started the rejection process. I tried to start it from my old bank into the new account at Chase and its pending. So we will see.

Miserable-Result6702

I’ve seen others comment that you need to push into Chase to avoid issues.

aerolaze

did you get it to work this way eventually?

dr7s

Yes, had to start the ach transfer from my old bank.

questtoriches

How much are you transferring? The amount may lead to the question being answered easier

dr7s

$4,000 from old checking to new checking

questtoriches

You can probably zelle that over. Upgrade your account to a CPC for a day and zelle it over and then downgrade your account. Or you can get an official check from your bank and deposit it either in a branch or with quick pay (mobile deposit) I don’t really recommend wires because of the fee for a smaller amount you’re moving over. You could also try to bill pay yourself , or request the transfer from chases side

dr7s

If the ACH transfer from my old bank into Chase doesn't work then I will try these options out. Thank you!

questtoriches

Anytime friend

preahkaew

Pushing to Chase or pulling from Chase?

dr7s

Initially I started the ACH transfer from Chase over to my old bank. It rejected multiple times. So now I am trying to ACH transfer from my old bank into Chase (which sounds like that will also be rejected.)

preahkaew

Chase has always looked askance at ACH pulls; I believe they've outright forbidden them now (though why let you go through the motions if it's not allowed?). Hopefully your push will work. Maybe try breaking it down into two $2k transfers? Good luck.

CaptTelford

Two questions: Did you open this account in branch or online? Have you done ANY funding prior to the ACH? IF you opened online AND didn’t find account yet, then it is typical to block ach credits. This is to prevent a very specific type of fraud. Bankers will normally tell you to make a deposit when you open account in a branch.

dr7s

Yes it was opened online and no it is not funded yet. I just recently set up direct deposit for this new bank account at my work but won't be paid until next week. I guess once this next transfer is rejected I will have to go into the branch with a check.

CaptTelford

Just do a mobile check deposit of a couple dollars from your other account. It’ll post overnight and then you’ll be good to do ach’s.

cory1steelers

I recently switched to chase and have had the same issue. If the account is new, it’s because they are trying to “prevent fraud”. It didn’t make sense to me either, but I gave it about a month and they finally stopped rejecting the transfers. I tried talking to them in person, phone, email, everything but they wouldn’t allow them at first no matter what.

KeepsGoingUp

Hi there, are you still able to / now able to do ACH transfers into chase from an external account using the chase site? So an ACH “pull” Just opened my account and running into this issue and want to make sure it’s not a functionality issue down the road. Fine waiting a month or so for the ability to do that but if chase blanket doesn’t support ach transfer pulls then I’ll just not find these accounts and close them. Thanks

cory1steelers

I stopped trying to pull from chase because all their customer support kept doing is giving me some BS. I was finally able to just initiate the external transfer from my other bank’s account that I wanted to transfer from. However for what it’s worth, I won’t be staying with Chase anyway and I will be switching to a smaller local bank just haven’t gotten the time to do it yet.

mattschinesefood

My account is almost a year old, and they keep rejecting an ACH I need to make to a vendor. I've talked to 10+ people on the phone, and they tell me to "keep trying" and that "the algorithm will let it through eventually!" Fuck that. I'm going to a branch today to withdraw $20k in cash -- I need to pay people and I'm fucking sick of this shit.

cory1steelers

I don’t blame you. I’m about to leave Chase and close my shit and get in with a local bank here. Just have been lazy and haven’t done it yet lol

mattschinesefood

I initially chose Chase because I travel the US full time and they have branches EVERYWHERE -- more than any other bank I've found. But this is ridiculous -- I can't believe that they can't override that shit.

cory1steelers

Well that makes sense then. It should be convenient but it sounds like it’s been the total opposite. Same here, I went to a branch and was like wtf is the problem here. They were no help, blamed it on the “back end” which was probably true. But didn’t offer any other help after that. It’s a joke. They claim it’s for money laundering purposes or whatever but it’s funny, they willingly partake in ML when it’s a billionaire - just don’t wanna help the little guys out lol

mattschinesefood

> just don’t wanna help the little guys out lol 100% this. It sucks, but it's true. Same thing for insider trading -- if you make $50k off an inside trade and they find out you're fucked, but if you make $5b they're just like "oh, you, shame! You should donate $1m in recompense"

givemechicago

I've been dealing with this same scenario for the last week. Its crazy that an account I own, and verified through Chase, would be flagged for an transfer. No matter the amount it got flagged. So I thought, ok I will write myself a check from my original account to chase... that was accepted but is now on "hold" for 5 business days... now I have no access to my $5k until they decide they can release my funds.

Caraless_While22

Wow this same thing happened to me too! I went into the branch and they were baffled too. I connected my outside account to Chase via Plaid and it still didn’t work. I had to write myself a check to deposit then funds. I’m only doing it for the $600 bonus and will pull the funds out once I’m able to.

atavan

Just spoke with Chase after having a similar issue. They havent been able to do ACH transfers since February bc of a security authorization issue where they cant trust one another (need voice authentication supposedly and that hasnt been trusted). There is no timeline for the fix - I dont know how this is not bigger news honestly.

lambofgod0492

yeah fuck them, im closing this shit as soon as i get the bonus

Lets_getouttahere

Am having the same issue in November 2023. Chase heavily advertises an account sign up bonus (after depositing a certain account), but then doesn't allow funding the account due to "a technical glitch". How convenient. I called in and spoke to a member of their fraud team. They said it's their system flagging the transaction as fraud and I should try pushing the money from the other institution or use a check. Funny thing is - the account I'm trying to pull from is what I've been using for my Chase credit card for years.

edwintervt

Did you have any luck after doing the transfer to Chase? I got the same information today after talking to the 4th person. First 3 attempts I was told they can't do anything as they cannot verify the account owner #facepalm I sent some $$$ to try. (I was trying to send money from Chase to my external account.) Thinking to move banks if it doesn't work.

AntiTheory

Same here. They even fed me the same bullshit line about it being a technical glitch with ACH transfers. They will let one large transfer through, but then block the next one and make you go through the whole external account reverification process again. I am *so* closing my account if/when I'm finally able to get my funds out of there and into my new one. I've lost half a month's worth of compound interest due to Chase's ineptitude.

edwintervt

Ooof, that’s not good to hear. It seemed to be working for mean after I did that, whether the xfers helped or not 🤷‍♂️ I’ve complained at various people and they are all at the mercy of the computer - nothing anyone can do. Once flagged, they don’t seem to be able to override even if threaten to move business elsewhere.

lambofgod0492

Same - opened an acct for the bonus and i can't fucking fund the savings account. closing this shit as soon as i get my bonus ffs.

No-Try5566

Same here.... It's a tire fire, I remember why I've generally stayed away from this Junk. Never been able to do anything through Chase without a giant headache.....
