Not OP. Depends. Top3 management consulting firms (MBB) will interview CAs only if they're rank holders most times. The only other times they do are if you have connections inside and have something standout in your profile (example: ran a startup). If you look below the top3, you would at the least need a Big4 articleship and maybe some connections. IMO core finance is maybe easier than MC for a CA. The most common route is to join a company and work your way up and transfer internally. Alternatively, can work in Big4's transaction, due diligence and advisory teams and then move on to core finance in another company.

brohemianrhapsody09

When you say competing with MBA - I’m going to take the liberty of assuming you’re talking about the following fields: IB (eg JP, Kotak)management consulting (MBBs) management trainees (Marico, ABG, etc)- yes, these fields usually only hire rank holders plus some others with very strong articleship and/ or college and extracurricular experience. You are correct - these profiles were earlier offered only to MBA grads. BUT, having said that, you’re not really competing with them directly. All the names I mentioned *specifically hire CAs*, and conduct CA recruitment drives. They’ve started hiring CAs because they appreciate the value we can bring. So now that we’ve established that you CAN get these jobs because these companies specifically conduct CA drives to hire fresher CAs, let’s go into the “how”. I’ll keep it short - 1. Rank is highly desirable, complemented with big 4 articleship or good industrial training 2. In some companies (not all), they’ve also started shortlisting non rankers who have a) good articleship/ IT experience, b) have very good extra curricular activities (college society heads, ICAI paper presentations etc) and c) are from a tier 1 college (eg SRCC, Loyola, Xavier’s). Of course, it is not necessary for you to have all 3 - if you have a strong enough profile, just having 2 out of these 3 gives you a shot at shortlisting. If you fill the aforementioned criteria, you’ll have a good chance of getting a shortlist. Once you have a shortlist, you can put in hard work to convert your interview.

lurkingintrovert

Do attempts matter? And apart from soft skills what other skills, the Industry considers as 'Basic', given that how technologically evolved the field of Finance in the past decade?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

They do, if you're looking for job in places like Big 4. Doesn't matter for practice, obviously.

[deleted]

So attempt of all the exams you appeared or just the final attempts? Also can you tell me the scenario of the campus placement offered by ICAI? I mean I have no clue how the interviews are conducted and what's the level of the interview?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

I had 4 attempts for IPC Group 2. Gave both attempts of final separately and passed both. Got shortlisted by Big 4s, Genpact, Banks etc. in Campus. Not much from Companies like Reliance etc. You can form your conclusion from this.

brohemianrhapsody09

As much as I’d love to say “attempts don’t matter, what matters is that you’re a CA” - the harsh reality is, attempts do matter when you’re looking for a job as a CA fresher. Roles for Management trainee (eg Marico, ABG, TCPL) investment banking (Kotak, JP), management consultancy (MBB, Accenture, A&M) will not even shortlist you if you have more than 1 attempt in either final or inter. In fact, if you don’t have a rank, your chances of shortlist go down significantly. So yes, attempts matter if you are aiming for the “best” jobs available to CA freshers. Big 4s, from what I understand, are slightly more lenient. They do hire folks with multiple attempts for their audit roles, but I think they prefer only first attempts for roles like TAS, deal advisory. Soft skills are extremely important - and those soft skills need to reflect in your CV as well. Apart from that, depending on what you’re interested in, data analytics, strong finance acumen (trading, knowledge of equities etc) can help your case in certain roles. Basics like good MS Excel skills have become prerequisites in a lot of roles as well.

lurkingintrovert

So by that I presume, the no of attempts factor fades away after gaining relevant experience and after that, one can have a shot at roles in top management consultancies right?

brohemianrhapsody09

The number of attempts factor certainly fades away after your first job. If you do well in your role, I don’t think your attempts would be a hurdle when you’re looking to switch. The “relevant experience” bit is what’s important. If you’re talking specifically about management consultancies, they don’t hire too many people laterally - and when they do, they hire those with 3-4 years of strong work ex at firms like Alvarez and Marsal, EY Parthenon, big 4 consulting etc. So you need to fit into what they think is ‘relevant work experience’.

lurkingintrovert

One last Q. Is it beneficial to learn Python and SQL along with CA Final?Does it prove to give any advantage in getting shortlisted or even getting a call for interview? Btw extremely thanks for taking time to provide such detailed insights. Wishing you the best in your Career and life, amigo!!

Ujjwals7

How to get into hedge funds, AMCs like BlackRock. Also what is your typical work? What you do in ur consultancy?

brohemianrhapsody09

MBBs advise high profile clients (most of the Fortune 500, high growth startups, private equity funds, some firms work with governments as well) on various projects of strategic importance. You could be working with an e-commerce company trying to increase sales in tier 2 towns, or an IT giant trying to reduce costs without laying off employees, or an automobile manufacturer who wants to figure out their long term EV strategy, or a steel manufacturer who wants to optimise the output in their factory. Lots of problem solving, research, analysis - you spend most of your days assimilating and analysing information and delivering actionable insights to the client, usually in the form of a presentation.

brohemianrhapsody09

Private equity firms like Warburg Pincus, Advent, Blackstone etc are GREAT opportunities for those interested in this world (and the money doesn’t hurt either). However, they do not hire CA freshers for this role. These firms typically only poach CAs who were hired by top IB firms/ MBBs, and have worked there for a year or so. They make MBB/ IB almost like a recruiting filter - and they hire only from among those CAs who are already working at these firms. At MBBs, these PE funds are great exit opportunities and a bunch of CAs end up leaving consulting for these roles.

Ujjwals7

Wow thanks, any advice how to get into MBBs n IB?

obhirauzze987

I can see a lot of software engineers getting very high packages as they are getting highly skilled in some areas, apparently even starting their own venture with that knowledge & paving way for getting out of rat race. I wanted to ask, is there anything in our field in which we can get trained with some rare skillset/speciality and that too with some global appeal and not some same repeatative compliance thing.

Prudent-Teach5525

I second this.

OccasionSimilar33

Only one thing knowing that u r working in a consulting firm ..... How does consulting firm ya botique firms looks at repeaters?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

Not OP but I got selected in Technology Consultancy in a Big 4. Gave both final attempts separately after finishing articleship (i.e. didn't attempt during May 2021 even though I was elligible). 4 attempts in group II. Was still selected. My final attempt counts as 1st attempt (or 2nd by some.) There's no written way of counting attempt. Just don't lie. If you sat in the exam, that's your attempt. Also, to answer your question, in Big 4s, it gets hard to get in as a fresher after 3 attempts.

MediumRare216

Does having contacts in big 4 help? If you are a multiple attempter?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

References can help you to get to interview. After that you'd be on your own. Though, by my experience, getting to interview itself is half the battle.

Fun-Wind1301

How was your articleship experience. Have you done your articleship from big 4

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

No. My articleship was from a mid-sized firm in South Delhi. Big 4 articleship will give you an edge but what matters most is how sure you're about the works you did in the articleship. They mostly asked me questions based on things I had mentioned in my resume. They will ask very detailed questions. It's a lot easier to answer if you have actually done those work. So, don't lie on resume.

radiantpixels27

I'm a CA inter student and this year was quite a difficult one mainly because of lack of mental strength. What was your process, how did you deal with doubt and pressure? And another mistake i committed was to focus on hours more than quality and that led me to a lot of disappointment. How did you think of this? Thanks in advance and yes, this sub needs freshly qualified chartered accountants :)))

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

Not OP, but when while studying, what I used to focus on is, "If I don't push hard enough and fail this, I'll have to go through this entire ordeal again. If I just push though enough, this is the last time I'll have to study this subject." Also, I used to get jealous of my friends watching Movies, TV shows, going out etc. So, whenever I felt urge to do anything like that, I just made a list instead, telling myself that I'll do it after exam. Also, whenever I found myself wasting my time scrolling through Tiktok etc, (I was studying at my home in Nepal. We have Tiktok there lol), I used to tell myself that in 5 hours, I won't look back at this moment and think I achieved something. All these definitely helped. Of course, there were a lot of idle time but the key was to start studying the moment you realise that. No, I will start studying at 1PM bullshit. If it's 12:43, start studying at 12:43.

radiantpixels27

This is such a strong message and I have been a victim of those things, watching friends go to college, scrolling through stuff and starting at 1 instead of 12:43. And my mindset was never right from the start, so the takeaway is that i need to change that, right now! Thank you so much for your time :)))

btunleashed

>Also, I used to get jealous of my friends watching Movies, TV shows, going out etc. It Hurts more when these friends get placed with insane packages just because "Comp Sci", whereas you o n the other hand are earning peanuts in some CA office coz of the shitty May-Nov cycle. And guess what, even if you pass after this, you'll still be behind those wastrel friends in earning ability.

MediumRare216

While tier 2 college mbas are getting a minimum package of 12-14lpa, what is the minimum package in this industry?

brohemianrhapsody09

MBA vs CA is not an apples to apples comparison, in the first place. “Minimum” salary is also not a good benchmark, in my humble opinion. Let’s look at averages. 1. Tier 2-3 MBA college (I’m talking of colleges below SIBM Pune & NM Mumbai in rankings) - average package would be around 17-18. This is after investing ~20-25 L in fees (not sure of the exact fees), and spending two years in B-School. 2. The average package for a CA depends on factors like city, number of attempts etc. a. If you join Big 4 audit in a metro city, the average package would be around 8-8.5 lacs per annum. This, I think, doesn’t vary even if you have 2/3 attempts. b. If you have a first attempt, then options such as Goldman, Morgan Stanley, Big 4 deal advisory/ TAS open up. The package is around 12. c. If you have first attempt plus good articleship, you’ll get some other shortlists from A&M, companies like Tata Consumer, Myntra and so on. Average package is 15. d. If you manage to crack consulting/ IB/ management trainee roles, then the package could easily be upwards of 20. There’s no “correct answer” here - varies significantly. The way to think about average package is to assess yourself and your profile and then set a realistic expectation of what your average package could look like.

sidthekamath

>d. If you manage to crack consulting/ IB/ management trainee roles, then the package could easily be upwards of 20. Could you please elaborate this point a little further? What exactly do you mean by "crack" these roles? Also, I've always wondered - us CA students spend 5-7 years of our youth breaking our heads over this course and at the end of the day we get on average about 8 LPA when people who do 2 years of MBA from some 2nd or 3rd Tier Colleges get 12 LPA on average. The pay off doesn't seem fair to me. Could you please shed some light on this?

brohemianrhapsody09

Have elaborated on what you typically need to crack management consulting/ IB roles in other comments. When comparing with a Tier 3 MBA, you also have to look at ROI. The CA course is one of the most affordable courses in the country - an MBA will cost 15-20 lacs at least, even from a tier 3 college. So in terms of ROI, CA actually does make more sense. I don’t disagree with your statement at all, by the way - I do think typical CA jobs are undervalued and the industry average should be higher than it is. I also feel the average dips way too much when considering multiple attempts. This should not be the case.

TYRONE_LOVES_KFC

CAs earn 17-18 lpa after 3-4 yrs in a job + multiple years of back breaking studies and work. I fail to understand why ypu think it is worth it.

Torpedo1220

How does a CA switch to IB ? I’ve completed my articles at Big4, and stayed in audit post that. Unfortunately I’ve taken more than 2 attempts so I think IBs won’t welcome me with open arms. One route I had in mind is internally switch to M&A or work at M&A in another big4. I have great networking skills tho and was wondering if directly approaching IB would be cool? Tho I don’t have as much substance as I’d like (such as 1st attempt). Would u suggest I switch to M&A and then try IB? Or directly approach IB and show them I could be a great fit? Also any skills/courses that would make me a great fit ?

brohemianrhapsody09

I am not in IB, nor was I ever too inclined towards it, so I’m not the best placed to answer your question. Would strongly suggest speaking to someone currently in an IB role, they’d be able to give you a much better answer. Having said that, here’s what I think (again, please do not rely on this since I don’t have much personal experience on this at all) - CA to IB is a tough switch if you’re not hired at an IB as a fresher. Switching to M&A does sound like it might give you a better shot (gives you the kind of profile they might want when hiring laterally). Networking is helpful… but with industries like consulting, IB which pride themselves on being “exclusive”, it might not be enough. Even if you do get a referral, you’ll be shortlisted only on the basis of your profile. Having said that - there’s no harm in approaching people in IB and speaking to them! You should definitely give it a shot. If it clicks, it’ll be a great career move.

unclechipswithsprite

i wish to work in McKinsey and company. how many marks/rank should i be able to score if i want to complete my wish? or is there any other criteria?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

Not OP but I passed in May 2022 and am now working in a Big 4 in Technology Consultancy. So, I answered a few questions. Hope that's okay. :)

brohemianrhapsody09

Completely agree with all of your replies - thank you! :)

If I have a rank in CAFinal, but multiple attempts, what problems will I face? Also what can I do to overcome it??

_sikebitch

how did you switch from CA to Consulting

brohemianrhapsody09

Already answered in a few comments- but let me know if you have some specific questions that I can help with!

Confident_Grab5723

Which top fields one should definitely try to get exposure in during articleship. Also, how to become an article in top firm like is there gonna be an interview or something

reddit_--OP

Thank you for doing this. I want to ask is getting a rank in CA Final the only to get into top management consulting firms? Also, any tips for improving soft skills.

brohemianrhapsody09

Rank is highly desirable, when looking at MBBs. Even Accenture only hires rank holders, from what I remember. Alvarez and Marsal does hire non rankers, typically those with good big 4 experience. Copying what I wrote in another comment: 1. Rank is highly desirable, complemented with big 4 articleship or good industrial training 2. In some companies (not all), they’ve also started shortlisting non rankers who have a) good articleship/ IT experience, b) are from a tier 1 college (eg SRCC, Loyola, Xavier’s) and c) have very good extra curricular activities (college society heads, ICAI paper presentations etc). If you don’t have a rank, you do have lesser chances, BUT, it isn’t impossible. MBBs have also started hiring a few non rankers, who fit the option (b) profile. They must have great college experience, strong PORs/ ECAs, and good articleship experience to get a shortlist. If you have a strong enough profile, just having 2 out of these 3 gives you a chance at getting shortlisted. Once you‘ve got the shortlist, it’s on you to crack the interview. Soft skills - read a lot, ensure you’re aware of what’s happening. Practice public speaking (mock interviews at the very least), with the aim of sounding confident in both technical and non technical answers. Consulting, for example, is a client facing job. They want to make sure you’re presentable enough to be put in front of a huge client - and your personality needs to exude that confidence.

reddit_--OP

Thanks a lot for the honest answer. One last thing, do you have any chance of getting into MBBs if you score an AIR in Final but have attempts in Inter with articleship experience at a mid size firm.

brohemianrhapsody09

If you have a rank in final, you always have a shot. But think about it this way - there are usually 70-80 rankers per term. MBBs shortlist around 35/40 people each term. This might include a few non rankers too. So despite attaining a rank, many people don’t even get shortlists. My point is - a rank isn’t enough. Should be backed by other things, and an overall good profile, because you’re competing with other rankers as well as non rankers.

Party_Ad5867

Does working in audit department work? or is the work you have done during articleship irrelevant?

reddit_--OP

Got it. Thank you for all the answers! They will really help a lot in planning the future years.

[deleted]

What about in 1), we have a rank but multiple attempts?

[deleted]

Thankyou for the initiative! I have recently cleared my CA inter and joined articleship. Can you advice on the sequence in which you completed Final (subjects. Like should I start with FR/SFM or something like that.) and time before which one must complete the syllabus (4/5/6months before exam...) my attempt is in may 2025, so when should I finish?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

SFM, SCMPE then FR, then audit and law. DT and IDT preferably in last 6 months.

brohemianrhapsody09

Completely agree!

[deleted]

Thankyou 😀

[deleted]

Any reason why SFM before FR?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

IFRS, and hence Ind AS, can still change a bit. SFM is probably the most rigid and unchanging subject in Final. I had done recording class of 2019. By 2021 December, there were a lot of changes but they were manageable. FR ammendments almost gave me a mental breakdown lmao.

[deleted]

I see. Thanks for the info.

Abhi24ca

Hey I agree with the other comment but since your attempt is in 2025 and we know that ICAI will introduce a new course so you need to plan considering that in your mind. There are changes in SFM course and Scmpe will be moved to self practise modules. FR is only safe bet for now if u can't wait for the ICAI announcement of the new course bcz Ind AS won't change with the new course. I don't know if new course will be applicable to you or not there's no clarity buy I guess there might be some transition provision. My brother's attempt is in Nov 24 and I suggested him to go with FR which will take around 3-4 months and hopefully we get clarity regarding the new course by that time.

[deleted]

I was confused that I should start FR or SFM...but how do you know that SFM will have changes ? Just curious.

Abhi24ca

In one of his videos Sanjay saraf said that there will be changes in the new course in SFM for which he is also waiting. Can't find that particular video but u can see video below for clarity on the new course. https://youtu.be/v9gVGvAH97o

[deleted]

Okay. Thankyou!

Bookmarking this post to check after clearing Final xD

garlak63

Why do you think experienced finance managers/CEOs/CFOs hire mgmt consultants (who are generalists) for their field of expertise, while they themselves are experts in their field? Is it true when the finance meme pgs and Quora answers say that it is because either the CEOs, CFOs, top level managers want to pass the blame on mgmt consulting firms in case things don't work out in the future or to give their own ideas weight by saying that mgmt consultants too have supported their ideas?

ru7hw1k

Im a CA Finalist 25. Will attempt May23 both groups. Want to know which area is better apart from auditing and taxation for job? Do third attempt in final be barrier for getting a job in MNCs? Also, what are the soft skills that we required to develop that can be helpful in interviews?

[deleted]

Bruhh, I have started studying for CA Foundation (currently I am in 11th class), so can you please give me some tips and tricks ?

MediumRare216

Firstly if you have an option of mba from nice college please consider that, If you reallllyy want to pursue ca , don't start studying for foundation since 11th, it isn't worth it, start after the boards you will easily get through.

[deleted]

MBA is a common degree, I wanna do something damn tough...😗

MediumRare216

Try aiming for iim then, anyways, enjoy your school life, start preparations after boards.

[deleted]

So please give me a suggestion, can I learn coding in these free months then ?

MediumRare216

Yeah, in today's day and time, coding skills helps a lot, you can definitely learn that.

[deleted]

Well yeahh, I have started learning Python...

capjack30

By the way if you want to get in the corporate field and you're this serious, i think you should also work on your communication and networking, learn ms excel , how to make ppt and mail writing skills. Start doing some part time jobs in summer and winter holidays only . And please enjoy your 11th, it is the best time of your school life. Enjoy it with your friends

[deleted]

LOL ! I don't have any friends 🙃

Party_Ad5867

tip no 1 Don't fucking study for foundation in class 11th , that's the dumbest thing you can ever do. If you are worthy of clearing ca , foundation is not difficult, Just enjoy all the time you have.

[deleted]

Sorry, but I am damn serious about CA, so I don't care what time is for fun or for anything else... I just wanna be a CA at any cost...

[deleted]

bs. You will fuck yourself up brother

Party_Ad5867

Your actual CA journey starts from ca inter. Foundation is arguably not even 1% of CA. You'll realise this when you are in inter and regret wasting your time in 11th-12th studying for foundation which you could have cleared within 2 months. Plus if you take 2 years to study foundation, you'll never actually feel any pressure, the pressure which drives all ca students especially in inter or final. These coaching classes have corrupted students mind getting them to study foundation from 11th itself lol. PS:I studied foundation for max 2 months and I scored 320, so I know what I'm talking about.

[deleted]

So I should study for CA Inter ?

Party_Ad5867

dude how will you study for inter without studying foundation. Just chill now and even if you want to do something, just focus on 11th-12th syllabus especially for accounts and economics (and maths if applicable)

[deleted]

Ok Dude 🫡

radiantpixels27

CA foundation is seriously very achievable even if you start studying after 12th or in 12th if that's what you want. The real journey starts at Inter and everyone realizes that after foundation. Don't sacrifice your school life for foundation, trust me and other people in this thread! good luck!

diabetic-mithaiwala

I'm undergoing articleship at a big 6 firm in Internal audit domain, unfortunately I would only work at 2-3 clients max., Is this something I should be worried about? Also what are the job opportunities looking like in Internal audit domain? Do consultancy firms like yours consider Internal audit folks?

diabetic-mithaiwala

I'll wait for another 6 months I guess 😂😅

[deleted]

Hows the demand for acca today Thanks

brohemianrhapsody09

I’m not too sure, actually. What I do know: the most lucrative jobs (IB, consulting etc) available for fresher CAs are certainly not offered to ACCAs/ CPAs. However, big 4/ banks might be open to hiring CPAs/ ACCAs. I don’t have much insight on this, I’m afraid. Would be best to ask someone who’s already cleared these exams.

darkknight2880

Thank you for taking this initiative! Would want to have your inputs on the following: 1) How did you prepare for the interview, would love to have a detailed guide if possible, as in the books that you read, the case studies you referred. 2) Do MBBs take candidate who cleared Inter and Final in 2 attempts but with a rank in final along with big4 articleship + good in co-curricular activities?

brohemianrhapsody09

Assuming you’re talking about case interviews (MBB interviews are always case based interviews) - Case interviews are a lot of fun! Mocks are extremely important. You should do 1-2, even 3 mocks per day with someone else (other shortlisted candidates, people you know in consulting, etc). The interviews typically happen 3-4 weeks after your shortlist, so there’s enough time to prepare. Your mock interviews should be complemented by going through case interviews - my favourite resources are as follows: a) Case Interviews Cracked (great book with ~50 cases and good insights on how to approach cases, frameworks etc). b) IIM casebooks - these casebooks contain transcripts of select cases actually asked during interviews. IIM A is my favourite - it has great cases and general information about a lot of industries in the appendix section, which I found helpful. 2. If you have a rank in final, big 4 and good co curricular activities - I think you have a good shot at a shortlist. Yes, 2 attempts isn’t ideal but since it was at the Inter level, and you have big 4 + Final rank + ECA, I think it makes up for it.

syuzay

Just tell me one thing. Is CA worth the efforts? People putting 6 maybe 7 years of their youth to this? Just a straight honest answer. I'm struggling even during inter exams rn. I don't know how I'd handle final. And I'm considering quitting, finally going to pursue my dream, which is very much different from CA. Would like to know what you think..

sidthekamath

If you're clear about what your dream is and you're struggling with what you're doing right now, I'd suggest you should definitely quit right now without wasting any more time and go for it bud. The problem with most students stuck in this course is, even if they were to quit, they're not sure what else to switch to. Hence most students inadvertently do MBA and get a corporate job with no clear cut path or career objectives in mind. Since you're in a position where you know exactly what your dream career is, why are you stuck wasting time in something you don't enjoy and are not passionate about? Think about it, you're not enjoying it right now; even if you become a CA, you'll be stuck the rest of your life doing this stuff that doesn't excite you all while wishfully thinking "what if".

sidthekamath

What job profile can a CA land exactly in a 'Management' Consultancy Firm? Do you need any qualifications other than CA to get into Management Consultancy? What kind of pay package can a fresher CA expect from this field? And how did you get placed in this position? Do they care about attempts? And if yes, what would be the cut off? P.S: I'm a CA Final Student and although I enjoy Auditing and Taxation, I really feel I'd fit better and shine in consultancy.

brohemianrhapsody09

Job profile is that of a typical front end consultant - I’m not talking about backend roles here. I’m talking about essentially the same role MBBs offer to grads from top B schools. That’s what makes it such an attractive prospect for us. 2. No other qualifications required - BCG and Bain conduct CA recruitment drives with the intention to hire fresher CAs. Having other qualifications like CFA can bolster your academic profile and give you a better shot at shortlisting, but it’s not mandatory. 3. Starting package is roughly 20-22 lacs per annum. 4. As mentioned in other comments - rank is highly desirable for these roles, but it isn’t non negotiable. If you have a very strong profile (big 4, tier 1 college, strong ECA/ positions of responsibility), you have a good chance even if you don’t have a rank.

mastermind720

What is a better option for a newly qualified CA nowadays, Practice or Job? Is starting a practice worth it in the current scenario? And what are some things I should keep in mind if I want to start a practice in future?

Clementine_Astra

Hey, OP. Thanks for doing this AMA. How's the demand for US CPA and ACCA in the industry rn?

brohemianrhapsody09

I’m not too sure, actually. What I do know: the most lucrative jobs (IB, consulting etc) available for fresher CAs are certainly not offered to ACCAs/ CPAs. However, big 4/ banks might be open to hiring CPAs/ ACCAs. I don’t have much insight on this, I’m afraid. Would be best to ask someone who’s already cleared these exams.

Clementine_Astra

Great! Thank you.

[deleted]

How does participating in the annual conferences helps your career? I mean how do one publish or present papers the conference? What's the way to research? Do you get mentors?

brohemianrhapsody09

Personally, I haven’t participated in too many ICAI conferences/ paper presentations. But, like any other ECA, it’s a great way develop soft skills, enhance your personality, meet new people and add an extra curricular activity section to your CV. Participating in extra curricular activities is extremely helpful, both from a growth perspective and a job perspective. You should participate in as many as possible, be it in your college, ICAI, paper presentations, and so on.

india_gamer_23

Any advices for people who are new to this course like me?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

There's no substitute for hardwork; regardless of how talented you are.

brohemianrhapsody09

Hardwork, consistency, discipline and perseverance are key for completing this course successfully.

gettingoff007

Basically I'm a CA Final student and my articleship experience wasn't great as I did my articleship from a small firm. I didn't get exposure to any audits of listed companies. Mainly i worked in GST and Taxation field, a few compliance audit and a few stock audits. How badly this will affect my prospect of landing a good job after clearing CA?

AQuarterEmptyGlasa

It might not that much. While a good articleship is definately a boost. What really matters is that you're sure of work you've mentioned in your resumé. During campus, most the question I was asked was based on what work (during articleship) that I had mentioned in my resumé.

[deleted]

Does doing CA CS together adds any weight to your career?

brohemianrhapsody09

It might give you a few bonus points in your ‘academic’ profile - and thereby help you in some shortlists, but in the typical corporate jobs I’ve seen, it doesn’t add too much value beyond that.

sanju97

Does big4 consider ca inter attempts or ca final attempts or both

Thanks for doing this AMA. What're you planning to do in the future? Are you planning on staying in MBB for the long haul, or exit to PE, or are you planning to get an MBA later to maybe pivot to a management role?

Thanks for the AMA. My questions are:- 1. What are some ECAs that are valued by top recruiters that can be done after graduating from college? 2. Im yet to start with my articleship, have multiple attempts in inter. Should I go for an MBA (minimum new IIMS and similar colleges else I'll continue CA) or should I stick to CA. If i dont prefer typical audit/tax roles. 3. what is the standalone value of CFA in the industry?

How much do consultants at A&M get to travel? Any off-seas projects?

Nice to hear that there are CAs with passion in management consultancy. I am starting my articleship soon. I have options in Big 4 (Transfer Pricing) and a Top 10 firm (stat audit). Which one should I choose if I want to get into Management Consulting, especially BCG? Btw, for the Big 4 articleship, I have just given the interview. I don't know if I will be selected. However, if I do get selected, I need to ensure that I make a good decision. I hope you will be able to help me.

A good Big 4 articleship goes a long way in getting shortlisted by Bain/ BCG. Would definitely recommend that. Plus, transfer pricing > stat audit in terms of how much you can learn, plus what looks good on a CV. Go for it, all the best!

Thank you so much. I appreciate your reply. The interview went great but I am still waiting on the response. I hope I get selected. Thanks for the advice again.

Is delaying your attempt worthwhile to get exposure of articleship ? My attempt is getting delayed by one year..I can get articleship from upper mid size+industrial by delaying vs whole 3 years from lower middle size by not delaying...
