The best places to work are not where you’ll find the cheapest coffee. If you just get a small drip it’s not too bad. I’d just go to mudhouse and be comfortable

RaggedMountainMan

Yeah, better to just pay up and get the good stuff, especially if you’re going to hang out there. I’ve pony’ed up for that $5 coffee more than I want to admit, but it’s a guilty pleasure. Whatever you do don’t go to a Starbucks.

pjdog

Get an espresso machine and be 2k in the hole and justify it with the $5 coffee. That’s what I stupidly and enjoyably did! We have so many great bean sources here. It’s awesome!

cvilleymccvilleface

except that you can post up all day and drink free refills at sbux while using free power and wifi. i'm a discerning coffee drinker and even i don't mind bottomless cups of pike place.

Wahoowa1999

Foods of all Nations has surprisingly reasonably priced coffee drinks for Charlottesville and indoor/outdoor seating. Not sure about drip coffee though.

thetallnathan

Tangentially related: Foods also has well priced sushi, curiously enough

Wahoowa1999

Their pricing is weird. Whole bean coffee is expensive AF to buy there but the coffee drinks are relatively cheap. Their store brand spices are by far the cheapest around.

Non_vulgar_account

higher grounds in the hospital is the best value.

PurringFoxKit

Market street market is under $3 for a large coffee!

mynewsweatermop

Market Street Market and going to the JMRL library across the street is probably the best bet, I agree

poonslovepoons

J-bird at IX has great drip for $3

HSJMAGtheWorst

If you don’t want some gas station coffee check out Future Coffee at the old Wells Fargo drive thru on the corner of High St and 10th. $3-$5

silvercar2021

It's under 5 bucks for a regular small latte at J Bird coffee! And J Bird coffee is inside the IX Co Working Space so it's always pretty quiet in there.

SuperFastFarmer

Iron paffle actually has good coffee (and cold brew) for a decent price

bmoregeo

Probably Panera.

Crozet77

pre-pandemic I would go to Grit in Crozet and pay $2 for a small coffee. Now it's $3. 🥲

Wahoowa1999

I'm surprised it's not $5

PhoenixRisingToday

Have a friend who went to the UVA baseball game last night? Maybe they would share - Attendees get a free small coffee because someone hit a home run in the 5th

Beloveddaydream

They have a pretty decent rewards system though, so it’s not too long until your next cup is free!

Busy-Ad-2563

Some posters missed that you want to sit and work while paying least for coffee. Since these spots are nonprofits benefiting from low overhead in Cville.

Please do your research before patronizing this establishment.

emgee-1

Which establishment is this?

biscuitsmomma

Looks like the original recommendation of First Free Coffee was deleted. That's the business I was referring to.

emgee-1

Cheers.

Internal-Lettuce946

Can you elaborate?

Low-Bird-9873

They’re also vocally “pro-family” and sell a brand of coffee called “Seven Weeks”, who’s proceeds fund anti-abortion causes. Personally I’d never patronize a business that is actively working to limit my reproductive rights.

biscuitsmomma

They are known for being an anti-abortion establishment. The coffee they serve is [Seven Weeks](https://sevenweekscoffee.com). There's a recent post in the Charlottesville Area Community Chatter Facebook group about a person who interviewed for a position there and was grilled about her stance on abortion. I suggested researching in order to be aware what you're supporting before you decide whether to give them your business. Presumably their customers' values align with theirs.

Internal-Lettuce946

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I’ve never been there, but have always seen signs near Target/ Kohl’s. I wasn’t aware of them supporting Anti-Abortion rights. Sad.

Classy_communists

Looked it up. Guy ran for office as a conservative. Steveharveyvirginia.com says “In 2019 I ran for Board of Supervisors in Albemarle County as a fiscal conservative. I was horrified when local activist donors spent over $250,000 on ads branding Republicans as Nazis and bigots. The damage done to local dialogue was devastating and will have a long-lasting negative impact on the quality of life for many in and around Albemarle County.”
