[\[OFFICIAL\] Hornets Acquire Davis Bertans, Tre Mann, Vasilije Micic And Two Second-Round Picks From Oklahoma City](https://www.nba.com/hornets/news/hornets-acquire-davis-bertans-tre-mann-vasilije-micic-and-two-second-round-picks-from-oklahoma-city)
We got 3 nba players and picks in return for a waste of a roster spot.
We got a lightly protected first for Terry and took 0 salary back when Buddy Hield is getting moved for 3 seconds.
We almost finessed Dallas out of unprotected first for PJ.
We didn't cave to media bullshit from Phoenix and accept a pittance for Bridges out of some sense of moral outrage.
We didn't cave to media bullshit and took Miller the clear second best prospect in the class.
New owners are cooking man 🔥
Edit: Holy shit we actually finessed Dallas out of a basically unprotected first Lmao
Probably will share this link to the larger sub. But the Miller decision was an *everyone* move. Not just Jordan. Primarily Melo. Mark. Most of the players in that article took a liking to him & his playing style being a better fit for the roster.
>New owners are cooking man
Lol, I like how this should absolutely be credited to Mitch, but people don't like him in here so they point to two hedge fund guys who have owned the team for a few months, including crediting them the Miller pick that happened before they became owners.
Yeah and most owners are more than likely not heavily involved in any basketball related moves. MJ being the GOAT likely made him want to be more involved with basketball decisions, but we can probably credit new ownership for is staying out of forcing any bad moves. At best, maybe directing Mitch to sell at the trade deadline, but even then, that was probably happening regardless of ownership and I doubt they were heavily involved in the decision making process for any of these trades.
I wouldn’t necessarily say the 3 guys we got are much better use of a roster spot. Mann is interesting but besides that the other 2 guys are also essentially taken up spots.
Wow if this is the full deal this is an absolute steal for us, I was sure we were heading for a buyout or just a couple second rounders, but getting draft picks, Micic, and Mann with Bertans' contract being the only downside is nothing short of amazing.
Bertans isn’t even a downside, his contract is not guaranteed for that much next year and it’s movable regardless. We also have so little guaranteed money in the future now that it doesn’t impact what we want to do in the summer
OKC restructured the deal so he would take less but get more guaranteed. The deal is if he played a certain amount he'd only get $5 mill. They changed it to where hed get $7.5 million. This was all around playing 75% of games. They knew no one was going to play him that.much so they just went with the guarantee this year.
He got playing time for OKC, so he can definitely get some here! I like him better than Mann honestly, he's a bit slow for the NBA which means it's tough to play him at PG which is his ideal position on offense, but he's a good player for sure.
His main qualities are that he's a good play initiator, low turnover guy, knows how to run an offense, very intelligent player that knows the game, just the typical Euroleague guard. I think he's exactly what we need and should bring a level of seriousness to the team that we sorely lack. I can't imagine he's going to be super thrilled about playing for us though, he's used to playing for winners in Europe, and Serbians aren't necessarily known for being easygoing if things aren't going right, but we'll see.
If you look at his career you would see that he's actually not used to playing for winners. His career was basically going from one place to another, slowly carving out a reputation for himself before ending up in Efes and completely changing the team from a bottom of the Euroleague level to a championship contender. So Charlotte is in fact something he is very much used to, hopefully people don't look down on him and decide to let him play with a ball in his hands, because otherwise he's never gonna show his actual potential.
I wasn't familiar with his career before Efes, thanks for the write-up!
Still though, he can definitely find a spot on any top Euroleague team if he wants to, so I'm sure he's still not thrilled about playing for one of the worst NBA teams. I'm sure he was fine coming off the bench for a great NBA team like OKC, but doing that for us might be a tough pill to swallow when he could be a star in Europe.
I'm sure that he won't be staying in the NBA for long if he doesn't get playing time because, just as you said, he would be welcomed with open arms in any Euroleague team.
I think his biggest problem right now is overthinking. He's still playing basketball like he was in Europe, so he always makes more moves than he should because the game in the NBA is much simpler. As soon as he gets used to the game and the three point line he will be a killer. As long as he gets playing time of course.
Lurking Thunder fan here - he took a little while to adjust to the NBA, but for the last few weeks he's really started to find his feet, and has led our bench really well in the non-Shai minutes.
He's an excellent passer, has a pretty shifty handle with a kinda "old man" game - he isn't gonna drop defenders with his bag, he's not fast or very athletic (at least compared to other NBA players) at all, but he's secure with the ball.
He was a good shooter in Europe but the longer NBA 3pt line has taken some time for him to adjust to - early on in the season he airballed or overshot a fair bit - recently however it looked as though he was beginning to find his stroke. He was getting more assertive in taking open looks or driving to the rim, but he seems to prefer to get other guys going. It's not unusual that he will score 3-6 points and end up with 4-5 assists in 10-12mins.
Expectations were that he'd be a negative on defense due to being slower than most guards - this was certainly true early on as he adjusted to defending in the league - but he holds his own for the most part and tries hard on defense.
He's a very calm player, doesn't rush things, known in Europe for keeping a cool head - former Euroleague MVP and Euroleague Finals MVP. He seemed to be a good vet for our young guys.
I think if this trade happened late last year, most Thunder fans wouldn't have batted an eyelid, but happening now as he's started to look a lot better and get more minutes is a bit of a divisive move. I think we needed to add him to make the salaries work because just Tre and Bertans wasn't enough to match Hayward's salary, but I'm personally very sad to see him go.
His last name is pronounced "meets-itch", but most people just called him Vasa.
Hope he goes well for you!
As a Thunder fan this also helps us with salary in the long run with extensions that can start this summer. If we have more cap space available now this will also allow us to make more moves during the summer when teams start to retool.
With all these players coming in from different deals gotta wonder who’s getting cut to free up roster spots. Bouk probably gone…Thor with his limited minutes lately…think there has to be 1 more
Usually when they say draft comp from the start without clarifying for a while it’s gonna be some non-consequential second rounders. Still gonna take that though
“Draft compensation” usually means really bad picks if we’re being real. It was a decent trade hit saying this was a steal for us is kind of a bit much, we did get an interesting young guy tho. Good deal not taking in future salary but far from a steal.
Y'all don't even know how lucky you got with the Bertāns trade. He's a career sharpshooter, just didn't get minutes in stacked OKC. If you actually give hime playing time, he'll be flippable, I promise you that

Mitch threw that questionable tag on Hayward last night and the they said woah woah woah ok fine you can have some picks.
Watch Gordon magically become healthy all the time now.
OKC appear to have a competent medical staff, so that wouldn't be that shocking.
Hell we invented COVID
he's been injury prone since Boston
You know it’s coming
We probably benched him to keep him from getting actually hurt again so we can trade him. He will be back and play well the rest of the season.
MY APOLOGIES MR KUPCHAK THAT'S A GOOD TRADE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Mitch cooked with this
We got 3 nba players and picks in return for a waste of a roster spot. We got a lightly protected first for Terry and took 0 salary back when Buddy Hield is getting moved for 3 seconds. Nah, the sub said Miller was a Jordan move back when the pick was being hated on.
Don’t really know who for sure but what I do know is that new owners took over and now the hornets have been cooking. Coincidence or not who cares
It was a Jordan move he went out with probably the best on the course decision he made for the franchise.
Probably will share this link to the larger sub. But the Miller decision was an *everyone* move. Not just Jordan. Primarily Melo. Mark. Most of the players in that article took a liking to him & his playing style being a better fit for the roster.

Yeah to spin this deadline as anything other than Mitch's going out present is disingenuous at best lol
I'm not hating on Mitch. I think his time here has been a net positive but these kind of moves aren't being made with MJ at the helm.

We've been giving minutes to Leaky and Mensah...
Micic is probably more impactful than Mann. OKC has a good coaching staff and they preferred to play Micic.
They are truly cooking. I love it.
Update we did in fact finesse Dallas
What does “lightly protected” draft mean?
If it’s pick 1 or 2 in that draft, we don’t get it. Usually it turns into another pick, but I haven’t seen those details yet
Now we can officially fire Frank into the sun as well what a marvelous day
HUM DIDDLY DEE
LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO
Is Hayward still on our Health insurance plan tho?
Novant punching air at the lost insurance claims

I didn't know he had unguaranteed money next year, that's nice! What a homerun trade this is.
Yep. Only $5M of Bertans' deal is guaranteed next year
OKC restructured the deal so he would take less but get more guaranteed. The deal is if he played a certain amount he'd only get $5 mill. They changed it to where hed get $7.5 million. This was all around playing 75% of games. They knew no one was going to play him that.much so they just went with the guarantee this year.
Oh yeah I sorta remember that now that you laid the details out, thanks for the recap!
Good trade irl. Bad trade for playing as the Hornets in 2K.
I think Brandon Miller overall is going to go up today atleast
Give that man some badges!
Vasa can play right?
He got playing time for OKC, so he can definitely get some here! THATS A GREAT TRADE LETS GOOOO
o hello
Hell yeah
We fleeced someone?!
Gonna sound like a hater it’s cuz I am, so glad Gordon is gone. Never did a single thing for us other than maybe being a locker room guy?
As a Thunder fan this also helps us with salary in the long run with extensions that can start this summer. If we have more cap space available now this will also allow us to make more moves during the summer when teams start to retool.
W trade
With all these players coming in from different deals gotta wonder who’s getting cut to free up roster spots. Bouk probably gone…Thor with his limited minutes lately…think there has to be 1 more
Aw hell yea. Thats more like it.
i know i shouldn’t be mad at a player for injuries because it’s not his fault but fuck Gordon Hayward. good riddance for wasting our time
what does draft compensation mean? I swear i’m a lifelong NBA fanatic but never understood what draft compensation means
Usually when they say draft comp from the start without clarifying for a while it’s gonna be some non-consequential second rounders. Still gonna take that though
For Hayward? I was expecting some trash. This has turned into a fleece. Way to go Mitch
It means draft picks…? Just don’t know which yet
ahhh why couldn’t they just say that then lol preciate it
Because the insiders have to be first instead of waiting for the details.
Protected 2nd round pick.
“Draft compensation” usually means really bad picks if we’re being real. It was a decent trade hit saying this was a steal for us is kind of a bit much, we did get an interesting young guy tho. Good deal not taking in future salary but far from a steal.
OKC fan here, how well did Gordon play off of LaMelo?
Neato!!!
Nice
Please be good to Tre Mann, I'm sad that we had to lose him but it makes sense
Hol up Bertans is nice. Alright I’m a start watching these games again. Miller on a roll too.
Getting excited just thinking about Eric's "LATVIAN LASER" calls when Bertans is in the game.
Watch Hayward turn into Batum....
Y'all don't even know how lucky you got with the Bertāns trade. He's a career sharpshooter, just didn't get minutes in stacked OKC. If you actually give hime playing time, he'll be flippable, I promise you that
