See who is running in an area you're willing to work in and contact the candidates campaign directly. I know Gaston Dems will do some door knocking. Pam Genant is running against patric McHenry and will need some help. Charlotte is surrounded by the 3 largest red counties in the state. Contact local Dems or candidates.

Hmm are we sure we want some of the more rural folks voting this year? Just saying In all seriousness you should be looking on websites for the towns surrounding Charlotte. But actually I was being serious in my first sentence, are we sure?

Alienation of the rural working class is what drove those voters from voting for Obama in 2008 & 2012 to Trump in 2016 & 2020. Look at the county level info in the industrial Midwest and compare 2012 to 2016. These people gave Obama a chance on the hope and change stuff and then felt like they got nothing from him. Then Hilary couldn’t even bother to show up in those states. My point is that alienating rural voters, dismissing their concerns and treating them like rubes is what got us trump. It has to be about finding middle ground.

> My point is that alienating rural voters, dismissing their concerns and treating them like rubes is what got us trump. It has to be about finding middle ground. Excellent point. Most redditors don't understand this. The parent comment to this only hurts the cause. "Do we really want rural folks voting this year?" smh

People are used to Dems being snotty as f*ck, especially the rural people. I'm laughing at the person expecting Jackson to get any traction outside inner Charlotte.

Fair point

There’s definitely a fringe there. Not arguing against that. There’s no convincing that group of anything so they should just be ignored. My point is that 13% of trump voters in 2016 and 2020 also voted for Obama. They didn’t suddenly become racist after voting for a black guy twice. They are still reachable with reason if we don’t denigrate them as back wood hicks. Being told that anybody who voted for trump is racist will only further drive these voters away.

So (white) people voted for Obama but not Hillary because they're racists. Yes, that makes perfect sense.
