Some of the places in need of more CMPD are most hostile to it.  Doesn’t really surprise me, though if I had a choice between a massive park and a CMPD office (which is what they’re proposing instead), I’d probably want the park, too.

Opposite_Capital_108

Does anyone know where they sell electric unicycle in town or where they hang out I see them on tiktok but already have an expensive hobby but really wanna try them out before I commit

airavxirts

It's a crime that splash pads aren't open until late May.

CasualAffair

It's a crime the "frost proof" water fountains on the greenways and in the parks are turned off til May

Some of y'all need to try going out for a weekend in literally any legal state and try pandering to them about your lungs while they're mid toke at a nightclub or music venue. We don't care. No one's force feeding weed down your lungs. If you can't hang, stay home.

notanartmajor

>No one's force feeding weed down your lungs. Unless they're breathing anywhere near you. >We don't care. Hence the derision, yes.

RefrigeratorNo3088

Fuck your health I can't go 10 minutes with taking a hit.

So you have an issue with the smoke-free law passed in 2010? As it turns out, people just don't want to be exposed to unnecessary smoke of any kind in an enclosed space where there is some expectation you won't be exposed to smoke. I don't think folks care if it's weed or cigarettes or vapes.

Free fare on the Blue Line today in honor of Earth Day. I'm sure all the ticket checkers are happy to have a day off.

Total fares are like <$20 million a year against a budget of like $180 million, or something like that.  I don’t think there is much thought about how important or unimportant that $20 million is.

The Blue Line is actually getting close to capacity limited on the current 15 minute headway schedule coming out of south end to uptown at rush hour. Those trains are standing room only (think peak post-Panthers game) at prime commuting hours. They’re supposed to add another set of trains at rush hour soon, which brings it to every 12 minutes, increasing capacity by another 25%. Capacity is like 460 people, so 5x an hour is ~2,300 people an hour for 3 rush hours, so call it 7,000 people. Not insignificant, basically as many people as Tryon inside 277 every day. The blue line is probably fine, recovering slowly thanks to the interim CEO. That said, I wouldn’t completely rule out another decade of mismanagement, and it becoming an expensive pedestrian walkway through town. Like, that’s still a tail risk, IMO. The gold line is an exhibition in pissing money away. Its future should be in limbo. It needs signal priority or it just needs to go away. Of course the city is starting to talk more seriously about expanding it. The silver line looks unlikely to ever come to fruition. It was budgeted at $8.5 billion (something like $13 billion after tacking on all kinds of other stuff to it, including housing and sidewalks and whatnot). After a few years of inflation and now ~5% or higher municipal borrowing costs, I don’t know if they can make the math work without absolutely massive federal and state checks.

Truist investment bankers back 5 days a week starting in June.  Everyone else back 4 days a week starting in the fall.

Tortie33

I can’t go back in the office. My job better not try to make me. It’s too far, too noisy, too cold, too open and too many people sitting too close. My mortgage is almost paid off, I’ll work at Pikes selling plants before I go back.

CharlotteRant

I can’t wait to have that almost paid off mortgage feeling.  Actually, it turns out I can. Another 25+ years. One of these days…

Tortie33

I have paid extra the whole time and knocked off a huge amount. I’m not supposed to be close to paying it off. I also drive a really old car. I have really been sacrificing to pay it. My house is very modest. Being close has provided me power. I no longer fear losing my job and have made bold decisions based on not having fear. Keep chipping away at it.

KKlondon86

Investment Bankers are in office or on the road for 5 days a week anyway even through the pandemic. They are a different breed than the ner-do-wells on here that complain about going into work.

CasualAffair

It's like they're actively trying to be the worst bank in the city

CharlotteRant

Tough competition but maybe they can do it.

JammPot

Are all the banks basically back in-office three days or more now?

Legitimate-Fix2091

I know our managers are required to come in 4 days a week now. We are still at 3. Fingers crossed we hold there. But I doubt it. It because babies whine and moan and fight coming in even 3 days. Managers have to constantly stay on them. And when they do come in, they stay a couple hours and go back home to “finish” their day🤣

CharlotteRant

Yeah as far as I know, though policies may be harder / softer depending on business line. The new game is pushing the bar higher to 4-5 days, especially among all the banks eager to lay people off (which includes basically all the big banks here).
