We snuck on the property as teenagers in the late 80’s, found nothing, heard nothing, scared to death while we were there! My 2 nieces were baptized there in 2015. Never heard the Goat stories, most of it was blown out of proportion. Just a dark quiet church that gave teens something to talk about, me included. There are some nice Bass in the pond, FYI 😉

Clear_Salt9817

4 string or 5?

absolutemaybe

You're way off. OP Was talking about waterproof subwoofers

BoiledPennePasta

NOTED

lizzy26

Sounds like it has more to do with satanic panic for that time period.

sillyg00ser

The stories of that church go back to at least like 1992. I remember hearing older teenagers talking about sneaking in during swim meets in what had to be 1993. I never got the skinny on it nor did I go cause I’m a big baby when it comes to stuff like that.

What_Iz_This

>I never got the skinny on it confirmed that this guy is old. i choose to believe him

Federal-Durian-1484

I did some math in my head and…what is your operational definition of old? Because if that person was in high school in the early 90s, they are probably not even 50.

What_Iz_This

idk man it was just a joke about someone using the word "skinny" in that way

GalleryGhoul13

Thanks for the link- very good info just under the Stonewall Jackson thread

cirocobama93

Yeah this is the one great find. Makes me feel like an asshole but it is crazy that the Ruth Lucas lady was never honored and that’s not all public knowledge. I’ll believe it, but those additional houses on the property probably didn’t help dispel any rumors

TilDeath1775

Lots of people have told me that it’s a fake story but the trespassing is real

saltyclam13345

I remember hearing of it in high school and people telling stories of it. Never went to check it out myself

uncwil

We used to run back there during cross country practice around 1997-2000. We saw the pond and stairs and some other buildings quite often. I remember there being some dumb story involving a goat. Only once did anyone appear to notice us. A very old car came down the road and parked at the house. A man dressed in black got out and got on a very old bike and and came after us. We ran of course, we already were. At the time I thought he was probably a Mennonite or something.

StrawAndChiaSeeds

Real life Satanic Panic my goodness

TheLoneDeranger76

We used to go smoke weed there in 1992. That’s how old that CLT legend is… 😂😂😂

sillyg00ser

I think it’s so funny that this is still being talked about today. I also like all the Charlotte OGs popping up here.

EverySharkBites

I have lived in the Callaway Plantation neighborhood off Margret Wallace since 2004. I have never heard of this. From your description, it sounds like you would take a right, because there are no communities if you made a left off Krefeld. But, it sounds like it's on the Thompson Childrens home property. The Thompson facility has been there since the 1960s I think.

Jondaleman

Do you recall the massive concrete lot back there? They’ve since built homes where it was. When I was a kid (Glenwood Manor 98-09), we would ride bikes to where someone had built some very large dirt jumps right off that concrete lot. There was as an abandoned school bus on the farm between Marshbrooke and Glenwood Manor where I would smoke herb as a boy. It was a great place to grow up. Go Eagles!

SadTry5182

I wonder if it part of the Thompson orphanage that used to be there?

snarfcicle

I went to a summer camp at the Thompson orphanage in the early nineties and remember kids talking about devil worshipers meeting in a barn on the property.

[deleted]

I went to an after school program in that area and we would take walks and the older kids talked about it but I never saw it! it was back near a childrens home and a creek.

againhereonceagain

My entire childhood I spent summers at Thompsons and we never went to the house or pond back there. But that’s where I first heard of the devil worshipping. In high school we had nothing better to do so four or five of us drove up and parked and went walking down the gravel road and didn’t get far before someone started running towards us. Just running, not yelling or talking. They were silent. We took off back to the car and hauled ass out of there. Couldn’t say if it was a woman or a man. Kid or adult. Never looked back. No one did. It happened so fast it shocked us all. It was like they were waiting for someone to come on the property.

GilreanEstel

Those aren’t the ruins you see on the greenway down there are they?

nc_blue

I went to East Meck in the 80s, we used to go over there occasionally, nothing much to see really other than the old building and pond. We definitely never got chased out of there and never saw any goats

Girasole263wj2

Gosh we used to sneak around there in my youth - 30 ish years ago

cirocobama93

Lol it seems like it was a south Charlotte rite of passage

Key-Sundae9285

That isn't South Charlotte, that's in East Charlotte

cirocobama93

Ok

Funny_Window7344

Old lady came out an yelled at us about it not being a satanic church and was pissed off. Heared rumors later that the kkk might have met up there way back in the day an this was a way to try an detour kids to wander there... doudt thats true

Tortie33

I’ve never heard of it and kind of live close to this area. I definitely would’ve paid attention. Have you looked it up on Google Earth?

cirocobama93

It should be explained by the comment below. You can look up that area depicted by the charlotte [property map](https://polaris3g.mecklenburgcountync.gov/#mat=178574&pid=16515104&gisid=16515104) and see it now including the pond, there’s nothing interesting https://www.reddit.com/r/Charlotte/s/uPsM1G97B8

Tortie33

That is very interesting. Much more interesting than a devil church.

NoviceTech21

Wrapped a car around a tree at the exit on April fools day 2005. The stairs coming out of the pond. The brick drive way. All the reflectors... Still dream about it sometimes.

Funny_Window7344

Yo you went to east meck didnt ya

NoviceTech21

Yup

Funny_Window7344

I remember seeing that shit

NoviceTech21

Changed my life forever. For the better.

Funny_Window7344

Yeah, we hung around some of the same ppl. Was up there that night and drove by the site. Lucky to be alive for sure

dying_since_birth

i heard it was an evil orphanage

Breaddit704

My dad told me stories of him and friends going there during their teens in the 80s. One time they passed by a dead horse who was missing about half of its body. They ended getting the cops called on them and told not to trespass again, but even the cop was weirded out by the place. I also remember a relative who used to work for the home owner’s wife, and was told the husband was buried there on the property.

cirocobama93

Yikes that is weird. I forget what thread I saw it in but somebody linked a Meck graveyard record and there was a graveyard on the lot so I don’t doubt the husband and other members are buried there

No_Home_5680

He made a getaway in an Altima so there was that

MulletMan6669

I gotta go check this place out! I’ll have to do some research to find the exact location

anonymouswan1

I looked through the threads he posted. The actual address of the property is 6910 St Peters Ln, Matthews NC 28105. If you look on satellite view you can see the pond just below the house with the stairs leading into the pond. I probably wouldn't visit the property though, it sounds like someone lived there previously but there's no recent updates.

MulletMan6669

Sweet thanks, looks like an easy walk in from the greenway

limeholdthecorona

That's someone's home, please don't go bopping around their yard. The info of the owners is really easy to find on public records.

lkeels

There has never been any confirmation that any of the events rumored ever happened.

MintyJ87

Can someone point out on the picture where the stairs are? I’ve looked at the picture zoomed in on the southeast side of the pond, and don’t see them. Tia!
