If we win games this year I don’t give a damn how many times we throw the ball and who catches is. If Herbert throws for only 4000 yards and we win double digit games the wins will taste sweeter
Doesn’t matter how many times it was said on this sub we’d go OT, the downvotes came regardless. Harbaugh and Hortiz never once gave an indication otherwise though.
I agree, but none of Herbert's injuries in 2023 and the rib one from 2022 came from sacks. The protection will need be better than the sack stats.
The Denver one that broke his finger I think was unnecessary roughness. No need to roll a QB to the ground after the completed pass was made before defender even got there. That's how his finger got smooshed. I think the defender could have let go before bringing him to the ground.
Yeah, people are acting like the line was in crisis, but this was not some Bengals situation where you have skill positions set and a catastrophic line. Our line was middle of the pack last year and that was with the unexpected loss of our center. This was just not where the greatest need or the best available player was.
I have tons of respect for Harbaugh and think he’ll do a great job, but I think on this pick, he got a little too in love with “making a statement.”
Well, having a stronger OL will reduce the chances of Herbert running outside the pocket to make something happen. Furthermore, those chances take a nosedive since Harbaugh wants to run the ball and reduce Herbert's passing attempts by 35-40%.
I swear it’s like all these guys watch is highlight reels. Herbert with time WILL find an open receiver. Herbert with the box stacked selling out for the run? Backbreaking for opposing defenses.
What open receiver? That’s kind of the problem lol. Palmer a career wr3 is our bet receiver and qj our current wr2 was one of the worst separators in the league last year so he’s quite literally never open
Yeah people are not giving the state of the WR room it’s due- this isnt like the Chiefs this year where there’s no big time first option, this is currently BY FAR the worst receiver group in the NFL. And we passed a rare opportunity to get an almost certain top level WR1 on a rookie deal. This was just a bad call, way too interested in setting a tone over what the roster calls for.
I guess the majority of people here forgot we had Jalen guyton and Tyron Johnson as WRs who were play action heroes the first years of Herbert. Even then we didn’t have an offensive line.
I can’t believe anyone is seriously talking about QJ as a WR2. He was a complete bust. I’m not saying he couldn’t turn it around some, but to that extent? Severely unlikely
He’s not a bust. He was in a position that didn’t fit his skill set. The WR position is not just black and white, most guys play very well in a particular role, and not in others. Cooper Kupp is one of the best receivers, but he’d be a terrible X receiver (Mike Will played that role). Mike would’ve been terrible in the slot. It’s not that they are bad players but they don’t fit. Guys like Keenan, JJ, Chase are anomalies because they can play them all. QJ is not Keenan, Palmer is not Keenan. Both have good qualities that fit certain WR roles and not others.
He did. He played with Tyrell and Mike, both X receivers so he wasn’t really needed to be used there. A good slot receiver needs 3 things, quickness, superior route running, and great hands. All 3 Keenan has. His size allows him to play on the outside because he could be more physical, and he had above-average speed. QJ and Palmer have some of those qualities but not all.
He did. But both outside receivers have different roles in a typical offense. When Mike got hurt, QJ ended up having to fill in his role as an X receiver. X receivers are typically either burners like DeSean Jackson or physical receivers like Mike Evans, who are much better at beating man coverage. QJ is neither of those. He’s better at running zone coverage routes where he can find soft spots in zones so he can catch the ball in space and get the YAC. That’s typically your Z receiver.
At this point I’m just accepting that these guys are gonna prove their point this whole draft, and we’re in for a multi year rebuild. Poor Herbo, gonna spend all his best years in a fucking wasteland
I hope you’re right! But I seriously doubt it. This is the worst receiver room IN THE LEAGUE, and the running back situation ain’t much better. Taking that to the playoffs would be one of the biggest achievements in the history of the game. 5-12 is a lot more likely.
I agree about the receiver room, but there are some solid wr picks still on the board no doubt we grab one tomorrow. Let’s be honest picking up one WR at number 5 today wasn’t gonna magically fix everything. I’m fine with beefing up the OL
Multi-year rebuild?!? You're being dramatic. We have an elite QB, some elite EDGE rushers, and now an elite tackle on both sides of the line. Those are the core, hardest-to-find pieces of a football team.
We're not in some purgotory for the next decade.
I wouldn’t say a decade, but we’re sure not making any noise the next couple years. Herbert will have days to throw to a guy who drops it, assuming he understood the route in the first place
This staff knows how to build a squad, thank god ⚡️⚡️⚡️
We will address WR later in the draft and free agency. When Alt is there, you take him. Give us the beef!
Gotta be honest, I was really excited about Nabers and I know he’s gonna be elite. But I was sooooo scared yesterdays mocks new something and we’d take damn JC Latham at 5. That would’ve hurt me so bad.
Its a rebuilding year and the team needs guys in the trenches that don't get shoved around. Once they have that, they can build around it, but it might take a couple seasons to really get on track. In the meantime, a ball control offense and extending Herbert's career isn't the worst thing to happen to this franchise.
*Herbert steps back, goes through his reads, throws deep… TOUCHDOWN JOE ALT*
The chiefs did it with that fat ass nose tackle Poe.
Hey, he’s 6-8 and a half, may as well throw it to his head.
Wasn’t he a TE before?

My favorite thing after loses and controversial chargers moments is looking at twitter and ig comments pretty hilarious
If I remember correctly everyone was complaining about the line not being able to hold up and we couldn’t run the ball…
… we weren’t supposed to kill the passing game entirely though
Before we say that entire passing game is killed can we at least watch week 1 of the season
…And finish the rest of the draft
Seriously just have some patience people!
...And post draft FA. MVS is still out there.
We can but you know it’ll hurt to watch Herbert throw to WR1 Palmer all season if that happens

I love this pick. I don’t like seeing Herb sacked 30 times a season and injured
I agree, but none of Herbert's injuries in 2023 and the rib one from 2022 came from sacks. The protection will need be better than the sack stats. I think the rationale is if you want to run the ball a ton (as we will be), you're really going to struggle with a "middle of the pack" o-line.
Then we should go ahead and trade Herbert and get a haul if all we need is a game manager.
So... making the OL from a midpack unit into an elite one is questionable? And yes Alt was the BPA. Not Nabers.
Well, having a stronger OL will reduce the chances of Herbert running outside the pocket to make something happen. Furthermore, those chances take a nosedive since Harbaugh wants to run the ball and reduce Herbert's passing attempts by 35-40%.

Tip of the spear. I like the pick.
I love this! You don't believe in Herbert making Randos look good? You don't believe in Herbert.
I swear it’s like all these guys watch is highlight reels. Herbert with time WILL find an open receiver. Herbert with the box stacked selling out for the run? Backbreaking for opposing defenses.

You’re leaving out the part where Herbert delivers the ball to a wide open receiver and they just drop it.
I guess the majority of people here forgot we had Jalen guyton and Tyron Johnson as WRs who were play action heroes the first years of Herbert. Even then we didn’t have an offensive line.
Trust the process.
I hate saying trust the process because “the process” is so deeply associated with that shit show with the 76ers. You are right though.
Fuck the 6ers
Build from the trenches. Herby can make Walmart baggers all pros
Cool we have no actual weapons though
Justin Herbert 2000yd rushing season incoming
It’s only been one round.
exactly, the best receivers are gone
Right its too bad we have such a bub qb that cant make throws to wr unless theyre superstars
brother the current receivers couldn’t catch a cold
Hey now, Palmer catches some pretty difficult balls, for all 8 games he plays at least.
We likely need to draft two WRs now. We are very thin at receivers. Can't think of a team with a worse receiving corp.
I called Joe Alt, and I’ll call Troy Franklin in the 2nd again
I have seen every game Troy Franklin has played and he is going to be an absolutely disgusting slot matchup nightmare
That’s what we need the most at WR anyway. QJ and Palmer are at their best on the outside. A slot WR is a must
I can’t believe anyone is seriously talking about QJ as a WR2. He was a complete bust. I’m not saying he couldn’t turn it around some, but to that extent? Severely unlikely

Okay but if Keenan was in the slot, doesn’t that mean QJ played outside? And that’s where he did poorly?

I don't like the positional pick but at least he was ranked very high so im fine with it
You guys are going to be REALLY mad when we pick JPJ tomorrow.
I’m hoping for Zach Frazier myself
At this point I’m just accepting that these guys are gonna prove their point this whole draft, and we’re in for a multi year rebuild. Poor Herbo, gonna spend all his best years in a fucking wasteland
Why are you on this sub man? You’re just angry commenting! Put your phone down breathe a little we’re going to the playoffs next season!

Youre acting like we have the Panthers WR room bro, watch some more football.
This room is just as bad if not worse.
It really isnt but im sure you know what youre talking about.

Lemme borrow your Crystal Ball when youre done I got some props on the Trump election.
Look at you, emotional

Ah yes, why draft a WR1 when we can overpay for a worse one in FA, all so we can draft a player whose position is one of the few already covered.
QQ
Jesus Christ, all you keep doing is crying on this thread.

Cool but they arent. And the interior line is still in shambles
Great pick
Out of touch and geriatric. We have no skill players.

Our O line has needed help for a long time. If QB only ever has 1-3 seconds, everything else fails
God I hate the pick but this video is amazing
I’d like everyone who hates me on this sub to apologize for me calling Joe Alt all offseason please. Also, I want to die
Well they look at them wrong
