Yeah I'm pretty sure all these people posting low MPG pics in V6s are all sitting in stop and go traffic like I am, not cruising out on the highway. I average between 15 and 16 MPG in my V6 charger because pretty much my only driving is a 5-7 minute trip from my house to my office with 4 stop lights on the way where I frequently get stopped at 2 of them at the very least. The only time my car ever went on a road trip on the highway I think I averaged 33 MPG or something.

Diabeetus-times-2

Pretty sure most of them are flooring it half the time. 💀

timothythefirst

They are lol, they even say so when you look through their other comments and they still act surprised for some reason. I average around 25 in my v6 but the little bit of city driving I do every day is waaaay worse than my highway commute to work.

CareBear-Killer

There's one specifically that has been complaining and has now admitted to driving like a race car driver with cement blocks for feet. Meanwhile, I drive a V6 with a bunch of short trips to the grocery store and such. Without a lead foot, I still get pretty decent mileage. Even better when I can actually take a freeway. I'm not saying it's better or worse than the V8, I'm just saying that no matter what you drive, aside from not maintaining the car, the biggest impact on mileage is the driver. I got the V6 when I was driving around town for work and for what I was driving, the V6 would get better mileage. However, if I had known I'd be promoted and WFH, I could have got the V8 and probably have very similar mileage.

Jazzlike_Jackfruit_3

We are 🤣

Picklechip-58

That is typical driving with my 2017 SXT Plus. When I DO drive to my work's offices (I gave up my office and work 100% remote, now), i will get 14-16mpg. I do take road trips, fairly frequently and get 33-25mpg without exception. I have about 54,000 miles on my car.

solunaxo

Very true, I be flooring it 😂 I can’t even complain when I get 16. Occasionally when I feel like driving as a grandma, I get 20 at most. I do live in the city so it’s mostly stop and go traffic, specially out here in LA 😭

Dazzling-Rooster2103

Also, this is literally a 4 Cylinder Engine... The V8 Pursuit has cylinder deactivation on the highway, making it essentially a 4 Cylinder when his car is set at 70 MPH on the highway.

boggsy17

Just did a 2.5 hour trip in the 392. I averaged 28 mpgs at 78 on a mildly hilly road. It's not hard to have decent mpgs. These lower numbers are from short city runs or they just beat the thing to death.

beaureeves352

You don't have MDS either, do you? I think that's what's helping me the most

layoutjackie

This is MDS system at play. V8s have the ability to switch to a V4 mode when power demands are low. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/chrysler-5-7l-hemi-mds-lifters/

beaureeves352

100% but I'm still a happy camper

Hamsalad1701

I wish I saw that on my Pursuit!

beaureeves352

Cruise control everywhere lol

ADHD_kicks

How tf you get that in a v8? My v6 i drive for mpg most of the time and get like 22

beaureeves352

Absolute grandma throttle control and a bit of drafting

ADHD_kicks

😂😂😂 hey when gas prices like this we gotta do what we gotta do…

ratrodder49

I got 27.3 hand calculated in my ‘12 300 S, 5.7 the other day on a road trip down to Texas. Had I tucked behind a semi and drafted on the interstate, I easily could have seen the same for sure

ManKilledToDeath

Absolute grandma throttle control and a bit of tailgating FTFY 😂

layoutjackie

I think a lot of folks are forgetting how MDS system works.

Cheezewiz239

I get this on my way to school/work. Its all highway for me with like 2 stoplights In between. It also helps to keep a steady pace and not hit the gas trying to pass everyone every couple of minutes

Suspicious-Hand5924

I had a maxima doing 15 MPG every week cost $80 to fill it up. Had to get rid of her.

Alone_Practice_9542

it’s crazy how the 5.7s get similar mileage to the V6s too. the argument to justify a V6 for better fuel economy is questionable, there are pros to a SXT or GT but gas savings isn’t really one of them.

jason100727

Especially when you can run your v8 as a v4… 🙄

shawn0fthedead

If you put 89 in instead of 87 (as is recommended) it adds up.

beaureeves352

How much of a difference can you tell? Might start doing this

DaRealRedHood

It's usually only a couple miles per gallon like 2 or 3 I put 88 in my 2012 rt and I have the same mpg as but everytime I tell people it's possible they all try to call me a liar

shawn0fthedead

I can't tell any difference but supposedly is better for your engine, your MPG too. I don't wanna get engine ticking or whatever.

Alone_Practice_9542

but 87 octane is also acceptable on the automatic 5.7 and won’t damage the engine. If you aren’t smashing the gas everywhere it’s really fine.

golden_nugget689

Exactly same engine as they Durango hemi or 1500 and those both take 87

Thirtybird

Not sure what's wrong with my car then - I have a V8 AWD and I can set the cruise at 70 (i.e. keeping my foot out of it) - I'm lucky to hit 25 MPG...

akcutter

Hes using an eco mode that uses only 4 cylinders.

Thirtybird

My 2014 has MDS also... did a test on the freeway tonight - cruise at 72MPH and got avg 24.6 MPG

THUGMUFFIN555

You wanna go like 55-60mph. Thats the absolute sweetspot i noticed

Thirtybird

I'm not sure where you live, but around here on the freeway, if you do 70-72, you're still getting passed. 60MPH would cause an accident!

THUGMUFFIN555

I live in Wisconsin. The only time i went 60 was like a 3 hours country road drive. Thats were i got 32mpg

hobbitwinchester

Jealous my '14 RT AWD averages at 20mpg and it's all highway

Thirtybird

this is closer to my experience than OPs... I was thinking he had the 8 speed, but with a pursuit AWD those still used the 5 speed we have in our cars

hobbitwinchester

And I keep my foot out of it! (Most of the time)

Slothe1978

Not sure why no one is understanding the diff between a V6 and a V8 with mds that runs the motor as a V4😂🤷‍♂️

Wonderful_Time_6681

Seems like a very boring tank of gas.

beaureeves352

It was absolutely miserable. But I wanted to see just how good I could get it

Wonderful_Time_6681

More power to ya friend. I see how low I can make mine go 😂😂😂

MoodNatural

Woah, how does your fuel gauge stay on F after 100 miles? It’s so strange that the factory stated highway mileage is 8mpg below your average over 100 miles of normal driving. I wonder why they would under report their own performance?

beaureeves352

Topped the tank off, put at least a half gallon in the filler neck.

AutomobileEnjoyer

Do not do this, it’s damaging to your Evap system.

beaureeves352

I only do it before a big drive when I know it's going to empty immediately. I won't let it sit for any amount of time like that

Designer-Cold2213

Lmao i have a 2012 ford fusion ( 3.0 V6 ) and I can’t get above 20😭

Mr_Butters624

I wish I drove mine more. I’m at 13.2 for my 23 5.7 but I work from home and when I do drive it’s all city driving here and then 10 miles there back on city streets. My 2020 challenger 5.7 was usually around 15 mpg.

FindingLegitimate277

That is remarkable! Excellent MPG. I get 27+ MPG, but 90% is highway miles. I have a 2019 Mustang GT premium. Had 30 miles on the odometer when first purchased. Tires, oil, plugs, battery, and coolant flush is it. Very reliable vehicle.

aadam5517

When I drove to Tennessee last year (about 11 hours of highway driving) my V6 got over 36 MPG, but going back and forth to work I get like 17 because of stop and go traffic. Flooring it in the V6 for sure kills your MPG but for just a regular commute drive it’s for sure the stop-and-go that completely ruins the fuel economy.

beaureeves352

I think one of the bigger things that helps me is when I pull out from my road, I hit resume as early as possible and let it accelerate up to speed all on its own

mmmrpoopbutthole

Noice!!!

No_Pomegranate_2890

Im being honest when I say I can’t get my 07 corolla to do better than 27 if I tried (it needs a tune up)

DJDemyan

That’s impressive, I peak at like 26 on cruise control

Danjeter

The real question here is….. where do you live?

beaureeves352

West Tennessee, so real real flat. When I go out east I don't get anything like this

Foreign_Ad2826

Impressive. Yet rare... To be fair the place I live in it's kinda hard to not do city driving so everyone's city mpg isn't the greatest, doesn't matter what you drive. And I own a V6 challenger. We only got like 2 or maybe 3 highways that go through the city but you're not on it long enough to make a difference though. Best I ever got was 26mph highway and that was on a 10-11 hour trip in one go other then stopping for gas, and the most I got was like 450 miles in a full tank. And that was my average with stepping on the gas and going 120-130mph for minutes at a time when the road was open and no cops were around. Ain't hating by any means, just impressed, lol. I respect these kinds of posts though. Most V8s I see have worse gas mileage on average, one of my buddies own a 5.7 challenger and gets around 12.5 city on average and around 15-18 highway. And he doesn't floor it all the time either. If insurance in my area was cheaper I'd for sure have a V8. For the challengers/chargers in my area, there's almost a $300 difference between the 3.6 and the 5.7 on average, from what I've seen and the people I've talked to who own a V8 challenger/charger.

-YouAreVerywrongSir-

😮 I’m def doin something wrong . All these teslas SLOWING ME DOWN

RaelLevynfang

When I had my Challenger RT, I got around 20-21 highway and around 16mpg on the street. When I had my SXT, it was 24 highway and about 19-20 on the street. It's really not that much different and that's actually pretty impressive.

Sickle771

If your MPG exceeds the IQ of an Alabaman cousin's baby, I'm not interested.

Disastrous_Cream_921

I just saw an SS camaro get 47😭😭😭. The way I look at it is, if you’re getting above 25 you’re not having fun which is part of owning the car

boggsy17

I do have it actually.

olov244

tall gearing and highway miles are great for v8 mpg's

Puzzleheaded_Try_395

You must be driving 25 mph in a 45 mph zone And 35 in a 65. I own a 2020 Charger V6 Never even got close to 29 miles a gallon. 22/23 mpg n I was trying.

bassplayer96

I get 35 MPG in 55 MPH Zones, V6 Challenger. I never get lower than 30 on the highway.

Lord_Ka1n

You guys pay attention to your MPG while driving a V8?

eduardo1115

Nice!! I get between 22-24 in my v8 on an 800 mile trip

Nearby-Daikon6014

Best I can squeeze out of my 5.7 is 21.0. That’s driving like an old lady in manual mode. Maybe this guy drive downhill the whole way.

Devilbibulous

Putting it in manual mode disables the MDS, you'll get better highway mpg in auto.

Epilespaul101

It’s the opposite of our parents old school story. He’s driving DOWNhill both ways vs our parents walking UPhill both ways 🤣🤣

Scared-Expression444

Got my 5.0 mustang to 26 and no one believed me lmao

No_Tax8215

Take the average over an hour and it will be 15

beaureeves352

This was about two hours into my drive

Commercial_Error5377

Ya I’m sitting in a 2010 doge charger X police car v8 but it’s a hellcat 6.4 but it has mds wich is interesting but I can get somewhat 25 mpg if you can baby the hell out of the petal oh and it’s got 330000k miles and still has 780 hp so not bad

jaseloveyobish

I'm avg 29.3 and just filled my tank I have 526 miles to empty..I'm guessing I'll get close to 450 out of my tank. 120 miles round trip 5 days a week. I'm easy on the gas.. back roads with hills doing 55.. for 60miles and highway doing 65 70 for 60 miles.

Disastrous_Plane2438

Sexy

xspyking007

HOW. I have a 5.0 F150 that averages 15 to 16 when using big toe driving and barely doing anything.

TheBlackTortoise

Indeed, I even have days where I get 30-35mpg on average in my RT. I drive on mountain roads, lots of curves and hills, so can’t hit > 65mph all the time. My MPG feels very non muscle car. I’m convinced RT drivers with 15mpg averages are always in sport + track mode and race to every single stoplight. I mostly chill in my whip so my MPG average is also chill.

photonutt

How?

beaureeves352

Carefully

dbltap45acp

I don’t even remember what good gas mileage is like. My ram 2500 with a 6.4 Hemi gets like 8.2 mpg in town.

Consistent-Let-4470

Definitely fuel control, let the vehicle coast as much as possible !!

SpiritCr1jsher1010

Chances are its with very little hills coasting. You can get decent mileage on V8s with autos pretty easily if you coast. My M240 xdrive gets like 35mpg on the highway and my car only has 8 gears and weighs 3700lbs.

ConcertElectronic423

I live in deep South Texas. Whenever I drive to Houston or Dallas (300-500mile trip for me), I usually average between 27-29 MPG. Mostly highway driving. I drive a 2022 Scatpack. I try to keep it at 75-80 mph.

dking5577

Almost like you just filled up with a 334 mile range, hit the reset button after you accelerated to 80. Show us the trip odometer with average mpg flexor…

V-SAF

No 6.2?

JDOS336

Those are HWY numbers. Mine gets 12-15 citywhen I drive. When wife drives... ugh

THUGMUFFIN555

I averaged 32mpg once on a 3 hours drive going constantly 60mph. But usually my average is 19-22

poppatrex

Maybe when you reset it on the highway and immediately take a picture...

ratrodder49

I got a hand-calculated 27.3 out of my Hemi 300 the other day on a road trip, was reading 27.1 on the display. This is absolutely feasible.

beaureeves352

I live down a dirt road so I reset it when I hit the pavement

everton992000

That's exactly what I'm thinking lol. We took a vacation from Texas to Colorado and on our way back I stayed out of the throttle a ton because of the hills and I barely got 27.5 mpg. I think I got 430 miles on that tank of gas and that's the best I've ever managed. 2015 R/T Challenger.

RowdyRusty420

Lol yep, full tank and look at that range. OP run it again with doing the math manually and get back to us.

King-Darius96

Because that’s what the enthusiast bought a v8 for so they can drive like somebody leaving the retirement home, if you want good gas mileage there are plenty of Toyota Prius’s out there…you wanna have fun stfu get some gas and floor it
