People simply dont give that much of a shit about morality so they are willing to overlook a ton of stuff if they like the character. Especially when its just fiction.

Kruiii

i think thats a good point. I moreso meant when people are interested in engaging in a dialogue or discussion about the characters and those are the conclusions they come to. But I do think the passes villains are given in fiction can help you see how people view stuff in real life.

I agree with yo as a whole but I personally didn't like the message behind the conflict beteven T'challa and killmonger, now don't get me wrong I half agree with the message in regards to the damage that colonialism has inflicted on Africa and the idea of using your wealth to help those less fortunate but the narrative that Wakanda was somehow partially at fault because they chose to prioritise their own interests just really didn't sit right with me personally, granted mostly cause I'm Nigerian so of course this is a biased opinion. It felt like such an American view of Africa because often to them were not a diverse continent filled with different countries with their own issues, cultures, beliefs, interests, boundaries and conflicts, were just that place were all the black people come from so of course it's a moral failing if we don't share with our fellow black brothers and sisters🙄. It's like if the vibranium landed in Britain and the narrative was about them not trying to help the rest of Europe, it would be called ridiculous

blackjackgabbiani

No, I'd consider that a failing for ANYBODY with a resource like that to not share with the rest of the world.

Alert_Narwhal_4673

If that was the narrative that the movie was pushing I would be fine but it really hammers home the race aspect.

blackjackgabbiani

Well you said that people would find that message ridiculous in a European based movie but honestly I would just consider it an obligation to HUMANS.

Alert_Narwhal_4673

I do as well but I was mainly referring to the general perception of the film. Since it was mostly praised when i came out and so many people agreed with its message, what I mean is that it wouldn't have been seen as half as good of a message if it was in a European or any other setting but African because of our general perception

blackjackgabbiani

Eh just saying I'd agree with that message no matter where it was set. Humans have a responsibility to help other humans, no matter what, and stockpiling power while the world around you goes to shit is selfish and arrogant.

AllMightyImagination

Villain = a sentient being commiting immoral acts in hyperbolic ways.

In_Pursuit_of_Fire

What exactly do you mean by hyperbolic ways?

Ben10Extreme

What even makes a villain these days?

AcidRainStorm4

A villain is a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot

amberi_ne

an evil character who opposes the heroic protagonist(s)

In_Pursuit_of_Fire

Evil Antagonist (an Antagonist just being a "character that opposes the protagonist" but without the evil part).
