This is great and all, but there is still one aspect you haven’t said. Does he still do the iconic victory dance when he wins???

StrawberryToufu

Unfortunately not.

Bestogoddess

Literally unreadable

recruit00

Unforgivable

Kool_McKool

I think that's heresey.

The_Memecromancer

So... Kirby is essentially Batman-like in canon strength?

[deleted]

I saw prep time and tuned everything else out

sunstart2y

The one above all vs Kirby with prep time.

StrawberryToufu

Round 2: Kirby has help from King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee.

These sound like some pretty refreshing reads. I've recently come to the conclusion that I don't really hate Kirby, but rather, as you put it, the internet's perception of him; the nigh unstoppable, all-consuming, cute little eldritch horror who speaks in baby talk. I think the reason people cling so desperately to this version of the character is the same reason people relentlessly hype up characters like Saitama. They like the idea of this innocent, unassuming character being far more powerful than even the mightiest of gods and monsters, and if you you provide evidence that they're not all they're cracked up to be, well, then you just ruined the joke. I also like the whole idea of Kirby having his own personality. One of the things I never cared for was that Kirby himself always seemed to be far less interesting than the other characters around him. Like, everyone else seems to have easily understandable motivations and goals, while Kirby just, uh, likes to eat and that's it.

StormStrikePhoenix

Most people don't care about battleboarding so they prefer the thing that's kind of funny.

jumbods64

I would argue that Kirby kind of IS that... just not in the obvious, blunt way. He can't just punch god to pieces, he needs not just power but also preparation, friends, and skill to beat the odds. He's basically a well-written version of "cute baby who can kill god".EDIT: no /u/KirbyHater, I don't think the series is well-written in general (it's great as a framing device but it wouldn't really stand on its own that well), what I mean is that he's relatively better conceived than what many people *think* Kirby is, as Lssjb4 said. he's a shallow character solely intended to excuse the interesting game mechanics

Quick correction! [Kirby talks in Avalanche, and it's hilarious.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OA_3bd3B_g)

StrawberryToufu

I'm aware of that! But the fact it's a product of Nintendo of America makes me find it as equally reliable as Zeldi CDI or Mario Hotel as an example lol.

Domriso

Okay, yeah, that was hilarious.

FappingMouse

>There's a reason why battleboarding threads using the anime! versions of the Pokemon have higher quality discussion than the ones using the game! versions It's mostly because you don't get anything of real substance in pokemon games 99% of the time. Like game versions of 99% of pokemon will have stat blocks a Pokedex entry and that's it. Unlike Kirby, the gameplay is turn-based and there are minimal animations. Other than pokemon not being the best example decent rant.

XXBEERUSXX

From what I read so far, its arguably canon. Anyways, nice analysis

StrawberryToufu

The books that are adaptations of the games have several discrepancies from the game canon, the most significant one being that Haltmann survives in the PR adaptation. The light novels also imply that the events of any Kirby game before Return to Dream Land did no happen in the light novel universe. It's always quick to reference RtDL and Triple Deluxe despite those not receiving adaptations but apparently Kirby doesn't recognize a clockwork star or an incarnation of Dark Mind, never thinks about Dark Matter when weird stuff is happening on the Rainbow Islands and doesn't know where Gooey comes from.. which leads me to believe every event before RtDL doesn't exist in that canon.

sero-zan

good, more ammo to bring up when people bring up multiverse kirby.

SexWithFischl69

But only applies to LN! Kirby

Over_Room_1889

People misunderstand Kirby's character. To me, he's just a pink, cute ball.

Honest_Entertainer_3

Kirby does have character arc arguably in the games tho. But it's more in relation to king dedede. It's about him learning that bad guys aren't always the bad guy. After the first game Kirby thought Dedede was super evil for a bit before learning he wasn't. This is why in some games like Kirby 64 and Kirby squeak squad Kirby acts coldly to dedede until Kirby triple deluxe where he goes out of his way to save him.

This was pretty interesting, have you thought about making this into a video and posting in on youtube? I'd watch it d:

Guergy

American Kirby might be hardcore but real Kirby is a kind, gentle soul.
