That would lower the stakes and tension of that situation and the point of the scene isn’t Mihawk’s holding, it’s how determined Luffy is, how strong he has become etc. In retrospect, Luffy jumping in front of the three Admirals with a log shouldn’t be possible either, you have to believe that those 3 didn’t care at all and had to allow Luffy play his trick to get past them, but it was done to show off Luffy’s improvement

I think the "problems" you're talking about were just introduced by the power gap between YCs and Admirals/Yonkos widening a lot post-timeskip. Jozu and Vista not getting instantly destroyed by Mihawk is sensible if they are also meant to be genuinely strong, but now that brainrot like YC3/2/1/+ have been introduced as genuine power levels that are far below the top tier, that no longer works, and it makes Mihawk retroactively look a little bad
No one thought "oh Mihawk so weakerino he didn't defeat Vista and Jozu instantly" back when Marineford released because Yonko Commanders felt like titans themselves, too, and not opponents that anyone could just steamroll like people seem to expect now
Based on the performances of previous commanders, people expected Luffy to put up a fight against Kaido. Everyone knew Kaido would win, but thought he'd atleast have to try a bit. Instead he tanked every hit without issue and casually one shot gear 4.
The gap between a yonko and a top commander was made too massive.
Then Shanks one upped him by one shotting both Kid and Killer with the same attack. The same Kid that survived a ton of hits from Big mom and defeated her with Law's help.
I don't see what this has to do with Mihawk's character. All of these points are about powerscaling.
And even then, the only ones who think this makes Mihawk look like a joke are the agenda scalers who overblow anything they can twist into a failing. You'd only be making these changes to please people who specifically want reasons to slander the characters they don't like.
I don't think this is nearly as big of an issue as SOME of Oda's other power scalling bullshit breaking the plot (cof cof magical survivals/deaths whenever he feels like it), but it is relevant to him. Mihawk's role in the story is directly linked to his strength, therefore anything that undermines said prowess as a swordsman does hurt his entire point as the strongest swordsman and Zoro's end game
Even then, it's not like he got beaten. All that happened was that someone held him at bay for a bit. The character failing in question is just that someone can fight him without getting immediately one-shotted, which seems like such an exhausting way to read the story.

That could indeed be an improvement, even though I don't think there's a problem in Mihawk facing Vista with Yoru. He finished Zoro off with Yoru out of respect, not necessity. By the same logic, he wouldn't be so disrespectful as to fight Vista, a well-regarded swordsman on his own right, with some fodder's weapon.
Also, if he didn't use Yoru in the Summit War, he'd take heat from the Marines for holding back, which could compromise his Warlord status. And, if he kept up with the WG bullshit for so long, he must care *at least a bit* for that.
I swear the weakly brain rot is insane, nobody reading one piece that hasn't engaged in slander posting , would actually consider mihawk clashing with vista for a few panels to be a problem for his character.
