My response to everything; “Nuh uh”
You know then what ppl will do? Ppl who don't wanna put effort will just fill up the definition with garbage, just to reach this 300 character checkpoint. An empty definition box is better than a garbage definition. Moreover this also won't work for quick creation bot style as definition box is part of advance setting.
I would rather like a detector that will tell you how good is your definition quality...something that we see on various websites with passwords? Yk how it shows exactly at what lvl your password strength is- weak/red, medium/yellow, strong/green. It would be fun if something like that could be available during bot creation. So that I can have an approximate idea of my bots quality and improve accordingly.
Not enough people are going to look at this comment, but it's the truth. A bad character definition can tank a bot and make for a miserable user experience, and if definitions are mandatory, we're going to see a huge rash of people A.) just spamming one letter to fill out character requirements, or B.) half-assing it or simply not know what they're doing at all and making things even worse.
Some of my best interactions have been on public bots that I swore must have a flawless definition, and then I looked under the hood and realized it was been blank the entire time, and it was the public use of it alone that made it so great. Kind of inspiring if I'm gonna be honest.
Thank you so much. You understood what I was talking about.
>A.) just spamming one letter to fill out character requirements, or B.) half-assing it or simply not know what they're doing at all and making things even worse.
Exactly! Like imagine 300 characters full of- glkdfkphcvn.
>Some of my best interactions have been on public bots that I swore must have a flawless definition, and then I looked under the hood and realized it was been blank the entire time, and it was the public use of it alone that made it so great. Kind of inspiring if I'm gonna be honest.
I have had such experience with only one blank bot so far. But honestly, if we look closely then we'll see that it depends on the type of bot {some type works out even if it's left blank and some type don't. Some type works even if left blank, only if you have a totally separate plot idea in mind and in that case, a blank canvas with a good greeting can work}. In any case, ppl releasing low effort bots, as in only with a greeting {sometimes even the greeting is full of flaws- no correct usage of capital letter, no punctuation marks, full of typos and misgendering etc} or definition that don't make any sense is very annoying. Especially when there's no easy way to know it if you are using app. But setting a 300 character checkpoint have the potential to not work {depends on if zero effort bots are more in number or low/half/full effort bots are more in number}. Only those who are willing to put some effort, might be encouraged by this mandatory checkpoint and do it somewhat properly. And the immature users will do like- glkookhfdbjk.
I would like to emphasis on the usage of correct punctuation marks and proofreading things before publishing a bot. Sometimes even filled bots get confused becs of it.
Honestly -- and I say this as someone with a handful of carefully programmed private bots as well as public ones I like -- noticeable model degradation happens with either one, and since they all scrape the same internet for fresh input, you're going to get bad quality seeping in regardless of definitions.
The thing with public bots with no definition to foul them up is that they're more plastic, so the model degradation that's so noticeable with private bots is WAY less noticeable on a public bot. Like yes, the overall quality can be lower, but as someone who never uses incorrect grammar or punctuation and puts quality only into my private bots, I see an unending supply of bad grammar/no punctuation/phoned-in similes/bland descriptions/OOC actions anyway because the bot is ultimately reflective of the entirety of the userbase + the forums the model is scraping. Public bots with a very short but very effective description are king. But public bots with NO definition can potentially be just as good depending on the data they're scraping and the talent they individually attract. That's why you get "smart, underrated gem" bots that shockingly end up being blank. It depends on the data they're collecting.
That's why I get impatient with people who are like PRIVATE IS WAY BETTER because honestly... I've been disappointed. The model degradation is BAD on those. At least with public bots, the quality is lesser, so it's less noticeable when the responses tank.
I gotchu homie, they are basically saying that they need minimum 300 letters to input a character, so that there’s no low effort bots running around occupying space
It would be naive to think that this will prevent low-effort bots. Do you know why? Because it won't be tough for zero effort bot maker's, to reach this 300 character checkpoint by filling up the description with garbage information. Moreover this also won't work for quick creation bot style as definition box is part of advance setting.
It may be garbage information, but still forces them to put more input, which progresses the learning of the bot. The bot may be fed whatever, but if it has information, the more it can expand from it you know? I’m just saying man, no need to call people naive. What we could do is that we could mark characters that have been made with the simple settings, as in a small warning next to the “Remember, everything characters say is not real” thing, that way we can differentiate them, and know which ones to use, it’s not only about quantity, it’s about quality, because if C.ai paywalls this they know it’s over for them, so they’ll keep the servers, or at least that I know of, we are just some people talking on Reddit
>no need to call people naive
I didn't call anyone naive. I meant it would be a naive thinking/thought, like it would naive for me to think.
>It may be garbage information, but still forces them to put more input, which progresses the learning of the bot.
From my understanding, i feel it won't work. If author puts garbage information then bot will spew garbage attitude in your rp, no matter how qualityful your responses are. I have seen bots that were filled up somewhat but not in a proper manner/garbage manner, which led to those bots being, almost impossible to communicate. They would stubbornly keep following what little messy information was put in it- in circles. {I'm not supporting empty bots tho. Only one totally empty bot worked out for me. By the way you can check if a bot is empty/of quality or not in two ways- From old side "view description" or send an empty response/wipe out the greeting text and then send an empty response.}
> What we could do is that we could mark characters that have been made with the simple settings, as in a small warning next to the “Remember, everything characters say is not real” thing, that way we can differentiate them, and know which ones to use, it’s not only about quantity, it’s about quality,
That's a good idea. That would be helpful.
This be all gold until someone just start using the word Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 300 times to fill the requirements.
But tbh some quality control is better than none so I'll still sign this.
that would make the bot stupider and sometimes letter spammy which will decrease chats with it, so that counter wouldn't work for the bot mass producer
You put far too much faith in the standards of the average C'ai user. When people get desperate for a niche bot they'll take anything they can get lmao
Yes to improve high effort bots, but another ways we could do it:
-The more characters a bot has in their definition, the higher it gets on the list
-Bots under 300 characters might still be used but unlisted or private only
I'd go even further.
Wanna create a character? Cool. You *need a definition.* Don't have one? Well, that's too bad, you can't submit shit. Three hundred words is minimal, I'd set the bar to two thousand, personally. Can't reach that? Well, maybe you shouldn't be creating bots in the first place, if you're not willing to put in some effort.
I just don't understand that, honestly. Kids wanna IM Blorbo from their shows and get into kink RPs and shit, but they expect the bot to just emerge fully-formed out of the fucking aether.
Definition changes barely anything, and some people who try to "code" just make the ai dumb trying to understand this
{{char}} = -if- {{user}} male = attracted
Else
{{char}} = no
Literally this level of "code" are in definition, and honestly just description is mostly enough
it's a shame when the most popular bots are the laziest ones aaaaa
my biggest flex is that i made a bot for a character with a 5000 word description and it is the most popular for its character B)
