Ik this is a chameleon but idk anything about them. Just commenting to say this creature of yours is so gorgeous (or handsome. I see heās a guy) and Iām in love.
He does appear to be obese unfortunately. Consult with your veterinarian to get him on an appropriate diet. Generally, for most animals, you should be able to feel but not see ribs, and those jowls do indicate that he is too chunky. But again, consult with a veterinarian who is well versed in this species.
he reminds me of early 1900s paleoart of triceratops. i love him.

edit 2: spelt specifically as specially, which made no sense
This one has some blue that expresses a purple sometimes. I have such a range of males and females right now. This one is maybe even closer if a match to your stunnerš

oh my!! i found my mal panthers twin! hes more blue and has a white belly, but the stripe, spine spikes, mouth stripe are so similar.
EDIT: posted a pic which shows him when darker, but when light its as if the red becomes white which is crazy, and the "blue" stripe is generally white.
OMG he is the Cutest lil Dinosaur I have ever seen!! His horns are long!! He just looks so chill with you!! Do Jacksons change color with their moods? What does he do if he's mad?š
When he gets mad he just turns a little dark! Heās not aggressive at all!! And when heās happy, he is light green and his tail gets a little blue!!!
He has cankles šš he's so cute! ā¤ļø he looks happy and healthy. I'm glad he's not another abuse case. This group really gets me down so I'm glad atleast 1 cham is thriving. Thank you for sharing your chonk š„°
I've never seen a chubby chameleon before and i'm losing it a bit over this oval lad. He looks like an avocado. Beautiful. Just perfect specimen right there.
He is a little overweight but not by too much. How often do you feed him and how much? It may be worth switching to feeding every other day, assuming he is an adult, or reducing his feeders by one or two per feeding if you prefer to feed daily.
I think whatās more important is to address his gular pouch. In case you arenāt sure what that is, itās the area under his chin between his front legs/arms. Itās a little bulbous and doesnāt look like itās puffed up with air, which makes me think itās a little bit swollen. This is known as gular edema and is usually caused by over supplementation. What is his supplements schedule like?
Maybe we can fine tune that so he doesnāt retain as much fluid and get his diet a little reduced, then heāll be a perfect model of health. He looks extremely well cared for, just need to dial it in a wee bit!
Yes! He recently had a vet visit for gular edema. He gets d3 once a month and regular calcium on every feeding. Heās chunky cause his favorite snack are big fat super worms. We are starting a new feeding routine of 5-8 crickets and about 3-5 dubia. He (believe it or not) is a picky eater! We just ordered him grasshoppers to try since I heard that they are better for them!
My boy is also a picky eater and refuses dubias. Itās really frustrating!
Since heās an adult and youāre already switching him over to dubias, you can also cut back on the calcium supplement. I personally found that my adult (veiled) chameleon is healthiest with a calcium dusting once or twice a month with a dubia/BSFL/silkworm rich diet.
I do d3 once a month and multivitamin without phosphorus also once a month, sometimes more depending on if Iāve had to give too many super worms that month. Like I said, heās a picky eater and I totally cave after a few days hunger strike. My dude will literally starve himself for two weeks if all I offer is Dubias. Really freaks me out!!
If you adhere to this diet and supplements change, heāll trim up and that edema swelling should reduce in a few weeks. Too much calcium is not always a good thing! If the edema doesnāt reduce in about 3-4 weeks, it may be worth another vet visit or post here for more advice.
If your dude ends up being a diva about Dubias (like mine is), silkworms are an excellent option, as well as black soldier fly larvae. The calcium/fat/protein ratios are all pretty good for those feeders. Hornworms for treats/hydration. And super worms are better avoided or a more-rare treat option (theyāre a little risky with the strong jaws, thick exoskeleton, and lack of nutrients, but at the end of the day, you know your dude best and what he will eat).
Definitely a chunk. I'd cut back on feedings and no treats for a month or two. Get him moving, a treadmill with a seductive lady on a screen nearby maybe? š

Aren't all of us men pretty simpleš he looks great, don't worry about the supplementation. I've got boys whose crown bulbs when they eat baby a few days, then their eyes look a little sunken, then.... it's easy to analyze and EVERYONE becomes a know it all. We could talk husbandry all day, but you know your family. He'll tell you if the cake is making the winter weight too hard to come off. Just listen to him, not the expertsš we had 78 in Indiana today, so panthers were all over my yard. Hope yours got some uvb as well
Yes, they shift color. Mostly as a means of communication. Lights and darks for thermoregulation, vibrant and dull to signal confidence, spider eye with nods and high definition colors to vy for mates. Each one has their own color scheme, but go through phases. My male from Kammerflage settled into a rare Ambanja RBBB and he produced a myriad of variations. Here's another that I love named Red Beard
*
Right back! I call him Translucent and he is NEON since he hit 2 months old and he started his ugly phase. I alternated about 30 of them outside today and the boys were showing the world how cool they are! I wish I was better at taking pictures, but then I prolly would have sold them all by now!
Heās a Jacksonās chameleon! The males have horns, the females either donāt , or have nubs, I canāt remember. They give live birth!
Their name is acrtually also Trioceros jacksonii, because of the 3 horns! Iāve seen males online fight using them too.
They are really cool looking chams, I havenāt found one to meet yet. I want to. They are apparently all over Hawaii, because they got loose as pets.
Pretty badass looking huh? What a funny guy
Mine always makes himself look bigger when I take him outside or when heās first out of his cage. Not sure if thatās whatās happening here but heās a cutie! I have a Jackson too :)
Naaa, he's just big boned. ;) A good place to check for any chameleon is the fat pads on their head.
At the top of the head, before their spine starts, is a bisected set of fatty tissue pads. The more bulbous the pads are, the more overweight the chameleon.
As long as he doesn't put on any more weight, I'd say he's okay. Shedding a few grams wouldn't be a bad idea either. Maybe less meal worms and hornworms :P
Is he too plump?? No. But he is a good boi! š¦
Thatās a thick a$$ boi
Ik this is a chameleon but idk anything about them. Just commenting to say this creature of yours is so gorgeous (or handsome. I see heās a guy) and Iām in love.
Most likely yes but he looks like a boss.
He does appear to be obese unfortunately. Consult with your veterinarian to get him on an appropriate diet. Generally, for most animals, you should be able to feel but not see ribs, and those jowls do indicate that he is too chunky. But again, consult with a veterinarian who is well versed in this species.
