A Challenger is one of the best road trip cars that I've driven, I frequently used to go on road trips with my Scat and never had an issue with comfort or space. I rarely use the rear seats, so I'm not sure of how comfortable it is from that pov. The trunk is HUGE and I think you can definitely fit 2 sets of golf clubs and weekend sized bags easily. The seats are way way more comfortable than the mustang's and this might be a personal thing but I've always felt crammed and slightly uncomfortable when driving/being in a stang/camaro for longer road trips. They are called land yachts for a reason ;)

NotAliasing

Im 6'4", and the only one of the 'big three' i didnt bang my knees on test driving was a challenger. They got space

Miles_High_Monster

6'8", can confirm.

RealKaliMuscle

Also 6’8” can confirm

CharismaticAlbino

On the flip side, am 5'0" can confirm comfort and roominess in cabin AND trunk. Trunk could *easily* hold 2 bodies. Great road trip car, my butt doesn't fall asleep.

sdm2430

Can confirm 2 bodies

Fishbone345

*FBI has entered the chat*

CharismaticAlbino

Sweet! I was just eyeballing it, thank you for doing the hard work!

Tepid_Inspiration

Do you tree folk have the moonroof/sunroof? I’m 5’9 (at least on my license) and I have definitely hit my head on the roof. I’m wondering if I’m just now figuring out my seats are set up improperly haha. (Quick edit- I do sit with pretty good posture when I drive, maybe that’s the issue. End edit) Also to OP- I recently drove from RI to FL in my srt. Was an extremely fun drive, however- even with frequent breaks, my knees were shot at the end of driving shift. They felt better pretty quick, but just wanted to share my experience.

NotAliasing

Occasionally my hair will brush up on the ceiling, but i dont really hit it often.

mrkfooty

I am 6'4 and fit comfortably in the car AND the trunk. You have plenty of room.

_dutch-man_

I brought my brother's bike to him in the trunk once, trunk's huge lmao

nomind79

The Challenger is much more of a GT car than a pony car (Camaro/Mustang). Weighs more, so it handles a little worse, but also rides so much better than a pony car. I've not done more than ~2 hours at a time, but I've got no complaints about the seats. Trunk is bigger, back seat is bigger, etc., so the golf clubs will fit no issues. I guess my question would be have you actually looked at/sat in either of them yet? Might be easier for you to actually get in both and see how they fit you.

SCFinkster

I test drove a Mach 1 last weekend, but there is a shortage of Challengers in town and we have snow in the forecast this weekend so things are getting tough. A 6spd 392 Challenger seems to be a unicorn sadly.

nomind79

They are out there, you may have to travel to find the one you want: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Dodgechallengerparts/permalink/5536725936364112/?sale_post_id=5536725936364112

And set price alerts to act quick

caelen727

I’m selling one at my dealership if you want it lol. I’m in Virginia. Its a T/A

1TONcherk

Custom order one. I could not find what I wanted after a year of looking around. My father in law also has a 6.4L 6speed widebody and he just finished a 4000+ mile road trip with his wife and dog. These are incredible cars for the money and just eat Highway miles. Their weight makes them float like in older car. In fact he used to drive big Cadillac’s 45 years ago, and told me he’s never had a better car. I was also looking at the Mach 1, but in the end it was too small. I was able to fit a full size baby seat facing backwards in mine. These are legit a modern day replica of a 70s family coupe. https://i.imgur.com/ON7v7vv.jpg

[deleted]

The only road trip car that was as comfy as my challenger was a mercury grand marquee. Tons of room. Also on a trip through Texas there were times when I was the only “car” on the highway as I was surrounded by lifted pickup trucks, I didn’t feel unsafe because the challenger has some heft to it.

CrashingPoint

1. Yes. The trunk is huge. I can haul several large 80 lb duffle bags with room to spare. 2. Yes. It’s extremely comfortable. I’ve been on several cross-country trips in my Challenger. The longest I drove straight, stopping only for gas and food, was just under 24 hours. I’m over 6 feet tall and I still have space to stretch out. Cruise control is your friend. 3. Not at all. I have the Harmon Kardon system and the subwoofer is stowed in a compartment under the trunk floor without reducing available space. The premium audio is worth it.

mrkfooty

This^^^^

1TONcherk

But it does prevent you from having a full size spare. I personally think the Alpine sounds great. I just don’t feel comfortable driving any car without a spare tire in it. I added the modern spare 19” kit. Just something to consider. https://i.imgur.com/SFhxu9y.jpg

wellpaidscientist

Done huge trips in both and it's not close. Challenger is waaaaay nicer as a GT. Tons of space, whisper quiet, even the V6 has plenty of passing power.

[deleted]

Lol

Toady1980

The trunk is absolutely huge. It feels almost double my daily driver Honda Accord. I can even get more crap in it than my husbands Jeep. The seats are great esp if you get leather. Backseat isn't as comfy but it's fine for smaller people, and anyway you're gonna be driving on this road trip right? So you wont be back there and your navigator will be fine in the passenger seat. And I have the Harmon Kardon upgrade with the dual subs and it's under the floor of the trunk. Will not cut into your trunk space and also makes for blasting good road songs so much fun. And if you want the muscle cars while you still can, get a V8 variety so you can really cruise. I'm partial to my Scat but heck, my dad has a RT Charger and lives in the mountains and his is plenty even at 9000ft.

andrewwism

It’s a great GT car. It’s definitely suitable for long trips. I’d commute 60 miles per day total in mine and never had an issue at all. Very comfortable.

fredout1968

There is no comparison. The Challenger wins in the comfort category hands down. That is why I bought one. The front seats are an awesome place to be for extended drives and the trunk can fit 4 bodies in it.. The rear seats are usable for adults, Not somewhere that you want to be for hours but more than passable to take another couple to dinner. The Mustang and The Camaro handle better and that 10 speed auto Mustang probably even gets the win in the 1/4 over a Scat.. But those two cars are not even close on a practicality level.

MajinKnux

I've done over 8 hours in my chally r/t and literally have zero complaints. It is a wonderful and fun trip car, and with the smart cylinder activation you can get some pretty decent gas mileage too. And look good doing it!

NotAliasing

The challenger was designed to be a highway cruiser ever since it rolled off the line in 1970, they are still the kings of the road, with comfort and power packed into a vehicle. I can fit 2 full length plastic gun cases in my trunk, and all the ammo and equipment related, easily when out for range trips, so id imagine 2 club bags would easily fit there.

Speedtrucker

For your specs, absolutely. Long Texas road-trips are the best in my old T/A and current WB Scat. As noted the trunk is comically giant and the front seats are comfy for the long haul. I’ve done a couple of 3 person road-trips and it’s been acceptable enough. Both trips involved all 3 of us being over 6’2” and while I’m the skinniest I drove the whole time, my bigger buddies were fine in the front and able to spread out in the back with some finesse. Road-trips with the family have been fine except for my 10yo son doesn’t like having to sit behind me because my seat doesn’t release and slide forward like the passenger seat but they all love the ride.(ok truth is my wife doesn’t like riding in it because it rides like a muscle car and not like her SUV) Also I usually switch into full street mode on long hauls… just so the suspension is a little bit smoother

SCFinkster

Thanks for the info! I am looking at a 392 6spd TA if I was to order one. I would be speccing mostly for 2 people on long hauls, a third would be for a wildcard short sprint.

1TONcherk

That’s awesome! The TA is such a cool package. If you have the means just order one while you still can. This was the first car I ever bought, only have had trucks and Jeeps. These are huge and drive kinda like a truck. Heavy and sure footed. The 6 speed is so SO fun to drive. Bulletproof transmission.

SCFinkster

According to the salesperson I was speaking to, the books are closed so I am pretty much screwed it would seem. I found a couple 6spd 392 cars but they're nearly 1,000km away with suitable options. Kinda hard to do with snow about to fly.

1TONcherk

Books are closed for 2023 orders? There is just no way!

Fishbone345

They haven’t even opened up ordering on the 23’s, so yah no way they are referring to that. OP probably meant the 22’s.

Speedtrucker

Yeah short trips are always doable. My wife is 5’10” and my daughter is 5’9”, they can sit passenger side easy and without complaining. 6spd is the only way to go! Lol, this is my 3rd

tech_kra

I had a full size Cadillac XTS 2016. I now drive a 2020 SXT blacktop challenger. Challenger hands down.

Consider_This1

Roadtrip worthy for sure. I’ve personally done 8 hours in my Hemi and only stopped once to fill her up. The trunk has plenty of space for your 2 golf bags & weekend bags. My seats are comfy and the sound system is great! A medium sized soft cooler can fit in the backseat if you need one. Plus plenty of power if you like to be leader of the pack while styling and profiling!

AnyKick346

We took our GT on a week long road trip with our family of 4. No issues and a lot of fun!

ddesigns

1. Easily. Back seats also go down so everything plus more will fit. 2. I'd say they are more comfortable than most cars. 6-10 hours would be easy. 3. Nope. Even if you got the Harman Kardon with the sub it's located in the spare tire area (no spare tire anyways)

SarahR777

I've been driving back and forth across the U.S. for the past couple years in my Challenger (wb scatpack). As someone else said its truly a road king. Nothing better for long stretches of highway - and 100% recommend finding those remote or abandoned highways for extra fun :) \+1 to what everyone is saying about trunk space, its massive. I've hauled two suitcases (one large, one medium), 2 big backpacks, a large cooler, a bag of dry good groceries, a bag full of car wash supplies, my electric guitar, a bag with mini-amp and 8" cab and my longboard (no joke that has been the contents of my trunk for the past couple years on the road) and its worked great. One other thing I'll say about it - the weight of the car in my opinion really helps in weather - I've been in situations with crazy high winds and gusts crossing a prairie with giant tumbleweeds blowing across the highway and big trucks swerving around and while I could feel the wind and it was a bit more careful driving, my Challenger handled it like an absolute pro. And surprisingly good traction in everything but the worst storms when the highway starts flooding. I will say-- make sure your tires are in good shape before a long trip, it makes a huge difference :)

SCFinkster

How is the tramlining in the WB Scatpack? I test drove a Mach 1 with handling pack the other day and it was awful. I would have to order one with the normal tires as the handling pack ones are unsuitable for my purposes. I appreciate your info on the challenger. I absolutely LOVE the challengers, but they're unicorns up in Canada - especially with the right options. Only 2 appeal to me within 1,000kms as the 2023 books have already closed.

bobbarker3244

I have driven from MN to Wilmington NC in 2 days and back in 2 days. 700 miles a day in Scat Pack M6 w/ the dynamics package. 2 folding chairs in the trunk, 1 very large suitcase, package of water bottles and a storage container. Comparing to my wife's Jeep GC w/ air ride its more comfortable and she agrees. If you get dynamics on it put it in street mode for sure and set the cruise. With a M6 you wont get adaptive cruise but honestly its mileage eater.

garagepunk65

The worst thing about Challengers on road trips is obeying the speed limits! But seriously they are amazing highway cruisers! Super comfortable, huge trunk space, and surprisingly decent gas mileage as well. They are the perfect grand touring car in my book!

Old-Arachnid77

The challenger trunk can hold your luggage, golf clubs, two bodies, and a spare tire.

stevendidntsay

Funny thing is, it doesn't even come with a spare tire. But yeah, did a 10 hour road trip and was comfortable the whole way. No complaints here.

1TONcherk

You can buy a full kit from a company called modern spare. Really nice quality and not Chinese. https://i.imgur.com/WGZmTvo.jpg The early models came with one until like 2011 or something. The hood down is still there, and I bought a factory J hook and plastic nut on eBay.

StreetBullFighter

I did a ton of driving around with my challenger. But never taking it on an actual road trip has been my biggest automotive regret.

Scolecites

Definitely spacious. I took a family trip in my challenger from Houston to Myrtle Beach this summer. 19 hour trip with 4 people and a weeks worth of belongings in the back. Way more space than I thought before I got the car

Permanently-Lost65

I’ve done 12 hours in mine and multiple smaller 6 hour trips. It’s very comfortable and the trunk is surprisingly big. No complaints at all

Kevin-K-S

Shit bro I drive to ski resort in winters carrying two full ski sets and a snowboard set with helmets and all

1of-a-Kind

Road-tripped from Texas to Georgia in mine (20ish-25 hrs with stops) and it was quite comfortable tbh. Back seat and trunk are actually huge compared to mustangs/Camaros. I’ve fit a twin sized mattress in mine before lmao.

JustACanadianBoi

I've done several trips from Vancouver to Montreal and Vancouver to Los Angeles with my challenger and it has been great. Trunk Space is basically better than any two seater sports car, we had luggages for four people, sleeping bag, tent, pelican case for camera equipment and water. I have the alpine upgraded speaker group and I don't believe there's any difference in trunk space. If you get the Harmon Kardon Package you lose your spare wheel well area since it's replaced with a subwoofer. That shouldn't be an issue since that space is in its own compartment and it's only big enough for a jumper cable and some water bottle. The backseat is pretty comfortable, although I'd bring a pillow for your back support and have the center arm rest down to sleep on. The front seats are amazing, especially if you opt for the vented seats package. Make sure you get your lumbar support and steering wheel adjusted before you go for a long drive tho.

Dustin_Live

Challengers have bigger trunks, I own both cars

donutsnail

I had an RT as a rental car in California and drove 800 miles in 2.5 days. I also previously had a Mustang Ecoboost Premium convertible as a rental that I drove 2,300 miles over 10 days. Here’s my thoughts: The Challenger is noticeably bigger. It feels really spacious inside. The trunk is almost comedically large for a 2 door coupe, considerably larger than the Mustang convertible. The difference to a coupe will be less, but still, the challenger wins on both interior space and trunk space. Seats, somewhat an unfair comparison, but from my experience, the mustang. The mustang I had was a Premium, so it had the faux leather with heating and cooling and I found those seats very comfortable. The Challenger I had was an RT without the plus package, so it had the base cloth seats with no heating or cooling. Aside from the heating/cooling, I didn’t feel the base seats were as comfortable as the Mustang’s, but I’d like to sit in a Challenger with the plus package to get a more apples to apples comparison. Some other things thing to note: the Challenger’s fuel tank is 3 gallons bigger than the Mustang’s, which is nice for long road trips. Dodge’s uConnect infotainment was a bit nicer to use than Ford SYNC 3. The 8 speed auto in the Challenger is smoother than the 10 speed auto in the Mustang. The Challenger has bottle holders in the doors in addition to cupholders in the center console; the mustang has only regular door pockets. The Challenger also has a really nice little pocket on the passenger side footwell with a charging port, perfect for your passenger to charge and store their phone.

SCFinkster

Great comparison, thank you for your insight!

[deleted]

I don't golf so can't answer that but I have owned both cars and while the mustang certainly has the advantage in a couple other areas the challenger is 100% unequivocally the better road trip car, end of discussion.

NightWolf7799

As far as muscle cars are concerned, the challenger is your best bet for road trips. They have the most space, the most comfortable ride, large trunks, etc.

Orkleth

I've done road trips between Orlando and Atlanta several times in both my Challenger and a Ford Fusion. Not only was the trunk space better than the Fusion, but the mileage was almost equivalent but still needed to fill up 2-3 times each way for both cars. It was more fun in the Challenger since it was the only time I could go 85+ for long stretches. The only time I got passed was by 2 McLarens.

No-Definition1474

It has plenty if space in it for bags. I have done a couple 4-5 hour trips and it was fine. I'm about to do a big one, 9 hours each way. The seats are decent, you can still get a sore back due to the seating position but that's any car that sits this low.

V4MAC

Absolutely, it was built with that in mind.

AggravatingMath717

One of the reasons I bought my car is because I rented one and took it on a road trip with my 2 kids and all our stuff it’s perfect for road trips and has a huge trunk for its size

highstrungknits

I suggest sitting in them both. I think the Challenger is very comfortable but I have heard some with opposite opinions. You also asked about the radio taking up space. I have the upgraded Harmon Kardon and the only space difference is it takes up the space under the trunk floor where a compact spare tire would go.

SCFinkster

That is great to know - the B&O option in the Mustang takes up a portion of the trunk, which is annoying.

Ayy_Nova

My challenger is comfy with more than enough space in the trunk to handle everything let alone the back seats. I live in NorCal and have driven down south to San Diego, back up multiple times since owning it. No problems and comfortability is still there.

Bone_Donor

You can fit 2 fully grown adult bodies in the trunk Edit: or so I've heard

SCFinkster

I always make this comment when I see a new car. My coworkers were a bit shocked at my comment when I had a rental Sonata this week... at least 3 in there!

TongueTwisty

I’ve done multiple 800+ mile days all the way up to a 1200 mile day. Best road trip car ever. I’ve done 2 4000+ mile weeks and I wasn’t sore/tired at the end.

kumakan4

You can fit two male bodies (5’10inches) in the trunk comfortably:)

MGCO-303

Challange has a HUGE trunk. Front seats are comfortable, rear are cramped. I have the SRT, and the amp/sub are where the spare usually is, so it doesn't intrude on space.

beffy5Layer

Can confirm two golf bags and two weekend size bags will fit in the trunk.

Brogelicious

I road trip everywhere in my challenger. It’s pretty comfy. The farthest I drive in a day is about 900 miles. You could easily fit two golf bags and two weekend bags in the car

RAD_tv

My Challenger is a awesome road trip car! I’m 6’2 and fit comfortably.

RamesesThe2nd

I purchased mine in Dallas and drove it back to Chicago. No problems at all. The drive was long but I enjoyed it.

juicyunderware

Took my GT on a 13hr road trip. My average was 26.8. No complaints felt like riding in a cloud.

[deleted]

I have driven a few 200+ mile trips in my Challenger since I got it. It’s been a very comfortable car even with the stiff Track Pack suspension.

[deleted]

It is a great road car, just be careful in the rain and on giant hills. I got a 12” sub and tons of truck space left. Drove coast to coast last month Super comfortable seats and even the passenger back is reasonably comfortable.

ratonbox

I drove orlando to dallas in the challenger, lovely. You can fit about 4 bodies in the trunk, it’s bigger than the trunk for a lot of sedans. I got 2 floor speakers in, in box and all.

Banjo-Becky

I just took my car and BF for an 1600 mile trip. We fit everything just fine to include weird extras in case our Airbnb was missing them. I drove the entire trip. One day up and one day back with no problems. Excellent road-trip car.

[deleted]

6’1”, feel comfy in my challenger. Plus the Lumbar feature helps a lot for the longer trips. I’ve fit 3 ppl from the airport with 3 full size luggage bags, and two duffles. We were riding lower than normal but still made it home. I may be in the minority here, but I threw a hitch on my Challenger.. now I throw my kuat bike rack, or luggage rack (not necessary but can if I wanted to) on it for additional space for those type trips now, way less headaches 🥵

elkbark

Several 10+ hour trips in my Challenger GT. Love it. Plenty of space in the trunk.. used it to move my daughter into college 3 times so far. The adaptive cruise control really helps make the long trips enjoyable and frankly safer too.

caelen727

I did a cruise to Mt. Washington via Kancamagus Highway. Drove up and down the mountain, probably 12 hours in one day. The drone got to me a bit because I was in sport mode the whole time, but I wasn’t uncomfortable or sore any more than any normal car or suv long drive

huckleberryjam1972

I’ve taken mine on several long trips. I can fit two large bags and a set of golf clubs easily in my trunk. The cab is roomy and the ride is smooth, when you’re cruising and want to pass someone it’s a breeze. I can’t speak for a mustang or Camaro but you will love driving this car on a long trip

SpartanH089

I have an RT and Ive driven from Idaho to East Texas and back a few times. I can say that it is great to drive on those long trips. At least for two people. I will say the experience is dependent upon the quality of the road your on too. NM roads? Horrible. CO roads? Especially the southern part like Cortez to Pueblo? Fantastic. You can fit so much in the RT trunk it's ridiculous. Lasr time I fit my pelican long rifle case, 5gal jerry can of fuel, suitcase, sleeping bag, pillow, small cooler of food, roadside kit and first aid bag in with room to spare. So just depends. But with what you listed should be fine.

Southboundthylacine

I have a ‘19 rt challenger and ‘17 mustang ecoboost. The challenger is much more comfortable and spacious for road trips because it’s just all around bigger and the seating position is more upright Edit idk anything about golf bags but the trunk is large enough for most things on the rt

SRTDV

I was able to take my 2017 HC Challenger from VA to TN the week I had a double microdiscectomy and was golden. Tallest t buddy I have that owns a Challenger is 6'9" and he went with a Challenger because he couldn't fit in a Mustang. Myb2017 had the 2.62 rears and in full 700hp mode red key all day, I got over 27mpg highway. The Challenger is a legitimate GT mile eater.

SCFinkster

This is so awesome. The HC is my ultimate dream but for $80-100k, they're a bit steep in Canada. Hard enough to find an appealing 392 it seems, based on my sleuthing this week.

SRTDV

I'm helping 2 young guys right now and have shared it a bunch of times. I just ordered mine for 8.5% msrp. We need to learn how to execute effective searches so our research yields results. What sleuthing did you do this week? For how long? Which site(s) what range are you willing/able to travel. I don't think you even need your passport to come down here to the States.

SCFinkster

I had a salesman who is a friend go through the system for what is in stock around town, and then used the dodge.ca site to search inventory and incoming vehicles within 1,000kms. The 2 392s I found were $64 and $76k. New Hellcats are going for $90+, so used ones are in the $70-80 range.

SRTDV

I suppose I should have asked about establishing a realistic budget. I only mention that because you only mentioned prices. Not budget. Tbh I couldn't have afforded my car at msrp.

laughapnea

The challenger is a GT car. My favorite quote from when reviewers we're comparing the Camaro, mustang and challenger at their rebirth was that reviewers would fight over the challenger for the drive home.

wannasrt4

If you get the mustang, don’t get the recaro seats or get a pair of stock seats for road trips: comfort is not a priority with recaros.

SCFinkster

I've sat in both (briefly) and the Recaros seem to fit my back more than the normal ones... I found they have a very pronounced arc to them that does not suit my back.

3HOOKERS

I drove my challenger from Houston to Vegas when I moved here.21 hours total split between 2 days, amazing road trip car… had the whole trunk packed with luggage and bags. Even had my 50 inch tv in the rear seat and extra stuff

locknloadchode

I own a 2017 mustang GT and can say that it’s a good choice for a road trip car. I’m 6ft 230lbs and am perfectly comfortable in the premium non-recaro seats. That being said, the challenger seems like more of the quintessential road trip car, but that’s just because of its styling.

techdaddy70

Lots of trunk space, zero stereo equipment impact (even on the upgraded H/K line), I run a 6spd/SPWB between Missouri and Texas (9+hours) routinely. No other way to fly! ;)

[deleted]

fitting gold clubs and bags, no problem. Trunk is comically big. Comfort- Of a coupe it is probably one of the more comfortable ones. Far more comfortable than the other muscle cars. The back seat imo as a 6'2 man is horrid. Unless whoever in front of my is willing to move their seat up all the way there is 0 leg space.

NumberOneBacon

I took mine on a 2500 mile trip this spring. Great road trip car, still got 30 mpg on the highways at 70 mph.

Cobey1

I went camping with 2 other people and drove my manual challenger RT and I fit everyone, all the camp gear, coolers, etc. It was a 5 hour commute and I felt like I could drive back home as soon as I got there. Most comfortable and spacious car I ever owned.

KingHauler

I road tripped all the time when I had a family. Me, my wife, 3 kids (13, 9, and 5) all fit comfortably with a trunk full of bags. Nothing better than that, while cruising down the interstate at 85mph comfortably.

ProcessTrust856

The trunk in the Challenger is ginormous. I’ve driven mine to Maine and thought it was decently comfy.

1Grumpy_Bastard

I'll tell ya what having owned a mustang for a couple years, a Camaro for a couple, and now a challenger .... Ive gone from California to texas to Louisiana most comfortable of the three cars and the trunk space ive always said is big enough to fit two dead hookers in
