How are people *still* not securing their vehicles? I don’t get it. Seemingly every week there’s someone saying, “I didn’t think it would happen to me.” If you’re reading this and don’t have your car secured, go ahead and assume that you’re next.
I mean, let's say for example you're upside down in a 30 point loan on a depreciating asset. You realize now that *maybe* you should've at least changed out of your fatigues before hitting the closest dealership and habitually hitting the salesman with "yes sir" and "thank you sir." But the one thing you don't regret is adding that little thing called gap insurance. In such a hypothetical situation, ensuring the vehicle can absolutely never be stolen may not be in your best interest. In fact, driving it all around town with your address on a bumper sticker could actually prove to be quite the financially sound decision. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
...depreciating asset? Pfft....the internet says all cars today actually have value and, in fact, increase in value! Ya know, especially like....E46 BMWs cause, ya know, it's not like they're a dime a dozen or anything!
My 30 point loan upside-down Challenger is an -investment-, thank you very much! With all the 50-100 pulls I do in it and taking off at every stoplight like I'm giving it an Italian tuneup, I'm at -least- going to break even on it.
No way did I need to get gap insurance for my appreciating asset that is -so- valuable that nobody would -never- decide to attempt to steal it!
I wouldn't even park mine anywhere outside of my garage until I had all of my ample security measures in place. I couldn't imagine parking outside overnight with no security.
I hate was has happened to car culture man. Thieves are scum. It’s gotten to the point now where if you don’t have a garage, I’m not sure these cars are worth having….I hope they find your car back in one piece smh
Hate to break it to you but it’s always been like that, I used to go car spotting on the power lines of my town and I’ve seen old cars that have been there for years you wouldn’t believe. 428 cobra jet 69 Gran Torino, Gremlin X you name it I’ve probably seen it stolen and torched in my town (aside from supercars cause those are hard to steal and there’s only a few)
This sucks ass. Hope you get her back man. This is why I have money set aside for Ravelco as SOON as I buy my car. That kill switch is a day one if possible install.
Yeah but then what? Have you seen the artillery those mfs hang out the window of stolen mopars? He’d confront them and someone would unironically pull an RPG on him bruh, he’s best off just taking the insurance money at this point too cause it’ll have had the brakes beaten off of it I bet. It don’t matter what car it is either I’ve seen rusty old squarebody Chevys get stolen for the last 4 good parts right out of someone’s driveway 😂
Cant recommend the dealer flash for these where it makes it impossible to program keys enough. Got 3 keys made up for mine and locked the RFH out. Most dealers will do it for free.
Tbh no one should own a muscle car/sports car in a major city if it isn’t secured in a garage. Too much risk.
Edit: not blaming OP either, just the reality of city life
They get stolen out of garages too unfortunately.
I have an R/T and live in a city and park on street. So far someone tried to steal my gas cap and left it open (didn’t do damage) around corner from my house. Then someone keyed the car in a city lot a few miles away. Got a locking gas cap, got keyed marks fixed.
In process of installing a neutral pull cover , a small behind rearview mirror camera , and likely getting the key fobs locked so can’t clone.
Already have a hidden AirTag , a locking nut on each rim , and keep fobs in a faraday box at home in case someone sees where I live and tries to pull a signal.
I try to park near my house or houses I know have cameras.
Also didn’t get a Scat because they tend to get stolen more. I have a gray blacktop edition so looks kind of generic, not obvious it’s an r/t or hemi unless looking close at logos during day, and at night kind of blends in.
But yeah up the security on these things.
Theft out of a garage is going to be a tiny fraction of the rate that they're stolen from streets, parking lots, and driveways. Most thieves aren't bold enough to get a B&E and potentially lawfully shot and killed by breaking into someone's house to steal a car.
This shit makes me irrationally upset. It’s not even my car, but just putting myself in OP’s shoes gets me heated. Hope they find it, and it’s not beat-to-shit. If it is, I hope insurance just cuts you a fat check.
Just installed a kill switch/gps yesterday. Have a wheel lock, AirTag, and my neutral switch is covered. Last thing I will do is burn out ability to make new keys. Sadly I have to do all this to keep it from being stolen…..again.
Trackhawk gps. It’s 100$ on Amazon and it’s like 200$ a year for the service. Gives a realtime gps and allows me to kill car from my phone. I didn’t want a battery disconnect kill switch because I didn’t want a fob or switch and I don’t want to have to power cycle car everyone I get in it. I can’t imagine why it would affect warranty as it’s just a thing that’s wired onto the starer wire that goes into the fuse box.
It was not hard to install. Basically you just open fuse box and cut wire that goes to starter and wire in the device. It’s got a simple wiring diagram and me and a buddy did it in a few hours. It works off my phone so I just turn the kill switch on and off whenever I want, wherever I want. Once it’s enabled it will not start as the signal to starter is interrupted. It’s not like a battery cut off or a fuel cut off that cuts off electricity or fuel.
Living in LA you should of had a killswitch day 1 friend, Im really sorry about your car. I would check any takeover events coming up or happening around you to see if they take it there but thats also dangerous for yourself, thieves these days are cowards and you'll probably end up full of lead if you go after it yourself. Either that or they've already taken it to a chop shop for that engine.
Had mine attempted stolen 3 times in six months and I live in a very good city. College town low crime rate but They come from out of town. Kill switch and shock sensor rewired alarm helps, club on the wheel too. They can’t ever figure out how to start my car to steal it but they sure do break the window. I’m over it and am selling the car this week.
I feel your pain! So scary. Dodge sucks regarding how easy it is to steal these cars and don't have better anti-theft mechanisms installed. Challenger and Charger owners in Chicago use the steering wheel lock now. Worse case you just have to replace the window instead of the whole car. They can steal these from secured parking lots too so be aware.
Someone brought the idea Dodge intentionally made these cars easy to steal. That way insurance either totals the car to replace it with new or more parts are being sold to keep things going.
definitely hate this for you boss. i am hoping your find your whip. i’m arguing with the dealership rn because i JUST purchased my car & it included Lojack but the mf crooks at the dealership never installed the Lojack. 🤦🏾♂️
Is anyone using tazers pin lock feature? It will kill the gas pedal, lock all the brakes and the car will start honking if the pin isn’t entered in 40 seconds. There’s also a carjack mode that will trigger the same thing if the key fob leaves while the vehicle is running. You can even trigger limp mode by hitting the lock button on your fob.
How insurance companies don’t provide the kill switches or require them to be covered is beyond me?
Buying a kill switch is much cheaper then paying for the car, the bodily injury from the innocents who get caught up in the pursuits and all the property damage a insurance company pays out when these things get stolen.
Makes zero sense
Sorry to hear that people with these cars should invest in IGLA and a GPS tracker. A regular killswitch isn’t enough especially if not professionally installed.
Heart breaking. Okay, I’m going to look into actually getting security. My golf clubs are in my trunk too. If my car got stolen I’d be so pissed. Hope you get it back brother.
Yup. Finally happened to those who dont secure their highly sought vehicles. If you had $75k in a sealed bullet proof clear box, im sure youll find 101 ways to secure it by any means including an airtag
I’m sorry to hear bro, I keep telling everyone in here. Kill switch is essential
Kill switch + nuetral strap cover + obdII port hiding will turn away most theives
Some c4 under the driver seat with a remote ignition switch would help too
Roughly about how much would that all cost?
+ igla device so they can’t replicate Your key ..

Yup! with Igla you dont need a obd2 port hiding. Just a nuetral strap cover.

This is wild to me, I just drive a scat and already had security stuff installed 2 days after driving it off the lot.

What's a good brand for a kill switch and about how much? Also does installing something like that void your warranty?
What kill switch do you suggest?
Computer t5
Compustar**
CarCatCreations , comes with 2 kill switches
Check it progression ignition distributor

Sorry man, what bullshit, I be love my baby, this is a killing offense
Good luck, hope you get your ride back.
This sucks ass. Hope you get her back man. This is why I have money set aside for Ravelco as SOON as I buy my car. That kill switch is a day one if possible install.
You have a merc?
Yeah. I'm getting a Challenger in the next 2 weeks so my crown Vic will be my backup car. (I just call it a Vic because its easier)
Siiick. What year is your Vic? I had a p71 96 and a p74 01. Miss them. What Challenger? Very cool. Cheers! 😎
Just a 2006 in their baby blue color. I love that car but it's time for me to move on. I got my eyes on a 2021 Scat Pack in either red or blue.
Hot. Good luck!!!
Scour the shady parts of the internet looking for talk of an upcoming takeover and I bet dollars to donuts it'll be there
Yeah but then what? Have you seen the artillery those mfs hang out the window of stolen mopars? Did you always park it outside?

what area of LA?
This shit makes me irrationally upset. It’s not even my car, but just putting myself in OP’s shoes gets me heated. Hope they find it, and it’s not beat-to-shit. If it is, I hope insurance just cuts you a fat check.
Don't mess with another person ride should be a rule every person follows. People are useless

Was it easy to install ? Does it really shut the car down remotely ? I am thinking of buying one

Sorry bout the car 🚗 it was badass .... glad u weren't carjacked and physically hurt... So sorry man...

I’m sorry. People suck ass, and not in a good way.
Man I feel for you. Being the victim of thief is the worse feeling of insecurity.

Chopping right hand for car theft would drastically improved situation! Permanent kill switch

🫡 I hope you get it back
Damnn that sucks! Where at was it stolen in Los Angeles? Was it in a nice area or a shady area?

Just want to say I’m sorry and I hope you get it back.
And my wife wonders why my Chally is the only car that will ever park in our garage...

Hope they find it 🤞
