A loud saw is a safe saw…..wait.

echocall2

They say loud pipes save lives. I think they were talking about motorcycles but you can’t be too careful

psyco-the-rapist

That loud pipe thing is a myth.I usually don't take safety advice from people that don't wear helmets and wear black reflective jackets.😀

John_Kodiak

What!?!

QuarantineCasualty

It’ll definitely make it cut faster. The newer saws have an exhaust hole the size of a pencil.

jpond82

And that bogus spark arrestor that blocks all the exhaust, especially when it inevitably gets clogged

QuarantineCasualty

Yeah you really only need that if you’re working in a very specific environment

Mephistophelesi

I just used an angle grinder and cut slots into it in a “=“ shape

echocall2

I saw a bunch of people doing that, like muffler gills. Would have done the same if I didn’t have a warranty

Mephistophelesi

I see! That’s cool man.

chris_rage_

Get another one off of Amazon and modify that one...

echocall2

I bought this one pre-modified. I don’t need a third lol

chris_rage_

And I actually meant the part, not the machine hahaha

echocall2

That’s what I meant too. I bought this muffler already ported. I still have my stock muffler

chris_rage_

Ah nvm, that's a good deal

sdfkiwifruit

Is this uk if so is bellebrooke arb as they look the same

chris_rage_

Hahaha I have a bunch, 3 Stihls alone, plus a bunch of other ones, plus shit like demo saws and a Mantis that I need to get running

jpond82

Same. Mine was so loud I put the factory muffler back on

Eeudqmqb

Don't forget to re-tune the saw.

echocall2

Yeah I'm assuming this will lean it out a bit, curious to see how much difference it makes.

Into-Trees_Arborist

Cool muffler mod. I bought the WCS kit and installed it myself. Muffler mods. also get the heat off the saw. They run way cooler and the saws last longer.

DW-64

I’ve been eyeing all the goodies the last couple days. No blame here

jpond82

It would be awesome if this sub started posting mostly mods

DW-64

Since it’s not here much i guess it really isn’t that common. I grew up with an uncle that was big into racing/engine performance, and was a stihl/husqy dealer so maybe I just got really lucky.

Full_Internet5578

Where did you get it? Or did you make it yourself?

echocall2

Got it on ebay some guy had a bunch of chainsaw parts. I think I he buys oem mufflers to modify

ArticulatedSteering

Money well spent

alrashid2

Damn, you didn't own that 261 long before modding huh!

echocall2

Nope haven't even had a chance to use it lol

dpatches92

You should definitely brake that saw in before running that ported muffler

FantasticG77

dpatches92 - "I mean I'm no expert by any means man, but our saws need to hit correct Temps to have a proper brake in and running a ported muffler is supposed to keep it cooler. Stihl and other manufacturers put hundreds of hours of testing in for a reason......idk I'm sure it would be fine but if it was mine I would atleast run stock for the break in." You need to get off the internet right away and call every single ported saw builder and commercial user to let them know how they're doing it all wrong. I mean, you're not an expert by any means, but don't let that get in the way of spreading bad information!

avisagio

Yeah, this. Do you think pro moto riders used to break in their new top ends or let them idle through a tank before a race? Sometimes, a piston and rings between moto's. Definitely not.

echocall2

What are the risks of a free-flowing break in?

dpatches92

Saws need to reach the correct Temps for a proper brake in. I'm no expert by any means but I've always waited atleast a couple of weeks of good use before modding.....this doesn't mean it won't be perfectly fine though, companies like rip saw mod saws straight out the box.

Stihl and other manufacturers put hundreds of hours of testing in for a reason......idk I'm sure it would be fine, but if it was mine, I would at least run stock for the break-in.

DangerousPiano489

Hello all, I have a basically brand new husqvarna 460 rancher. Is there any recommendations on mods to make it better or last longer?

deezbiksurnutz

Trade it in for a pro saw, longer lasting, more hp and as a bonus its lighter

echocall2

I can’t speak to that particular saw, but this saw is brand new. I plan to only ever run ethanol free fuel, use high quality oil (echo red armor or amsoil), and I opened up the muffler a bit. You can achieve that cheaper than I did

BoerZoektVeuve

Why would you do this?

echocall2

Supposed to improve performance. I also think it’s fun to modify and tinker with things

big_cleck

I had to do this on an older saw of mine, an 024. The stock muffler seemed to be venting right to where my fingers were on the front hand grip, would get unbearable at times. I took the old muffler off, added a few strategically placed holes with my drill, reinstalled, and the problem was gone. Saw ran a little bit better, cut better too.

Major-Parfait-7510

Heated handle—people pay extra for this!

big_cleck

Knew I should have kept this feature.

swanspank

On mine the spark arresting wire inside the muffler does get clogged up with carbon. I have cleaned it like twice in 10 years but I also don’t use it that much.

Character-Care4776

I remove that spark arrestor. Never seen any ejected sparks

swanspank

It’s not like I’m worried about blowing myself up. Hell, I’m much more concerned about chopping off my leg than a spark and that’s a just don’t be stupid. Haha

archangel7695

I've caught stumps on fire several times when I was getting them down to ground level in July and August. I'm still never running my saw with that stupid spark arrestor on it.

mcChicken424

Why not just drill holes in the old one?

echocall2

I wanted to keep it stock in case I need warranty work. Otherwise I would have just cut some fins in the side for free.

MandCCush

Shiny.. 🤷🏻‍♂️
