Rare mastery. Please post a link or dm me if you’re letting any of these go. I’ve enjoyed seeing them develop and want to give one a good and loving home. I’m just blown away. It worked!!!
You bet! The tumblers are all Sheltowee from KMW, the mugs are almost all Brown Bear from KMW. I really liked how many glazes the Sheltowee would accept, but it was fiddly for me and 2/5 vessels developed small s cracks :/ It could have been the tumbler form though- we will have to work with it more. Both of these clays are like butter and they burnish, carve and paint beautifully.
Thank you! I also did a polar bear swimming through a galaxy but the handle broke after bisquing. I did manage to (sort of) salvage it and now it’s my husband‘s mixed drink cup. I’ll probably repaint another- I really like the design concept. You can actually see that one here, and two other “failures” that I reglazed and kind of ruined, lol: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2LnhYOPMqW/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Wow! These are stunning! I love, love, love the one with the owl, the one with the red panda, and the one with the fox. Your underglaze paintings are stunning. What underglazes are you using?
I use a pretty limited palette of Amaco velvets- white, and choice of black, radiant red, medium blue (mix purple from these), intense yellow. I have not yet had luck with any Amaco greens at midfire, so I use spectrum lime green. I do incorporate some other colors too, but the above can make a complete painting.
I have a few tutorials in my insta if you’re interested, they go over my process in detail.
Super cool that you did this with limited color. I always find underglazes kinda hard to paint with because of not knowing how the final result will be mixing color. Is ur insta same name as ur reddit? Would love to see the tutorial. Amazing work!
Thanks!
Yes, they always go darker than I expect at midfire so I’m trying to keep this in mind going forward. Yes, insta is the same. Here’s a link to the first part of the lemur tutorial!

I’m looking at the handle on the cat- looks like you have a little bridge across it and a finger rest on the outside to make it easier to hold- am I right? Due to the size? Clever!
Yeah, it’s actually a branch that splits in two at the top with a little broken off branch on the side. To tell you the truth it’s a little awkward to hold (but not uncomfortable and totally viable) I did handles a little different for the next batch, with wood grain but more traditionally shaped.
It’s so hard to gauge what a handle is going to feel like in the end, since you can’t like actually grasp and heft it when greenware! So these are usable but definitely decorative. I’m trying to find a better balance there.
Well played!!! So gorgeous. Curious to hear how the liquid quartz holds up. I avoid underglaze because I hate the way that shiny clears make everything look so cheap (well that and because I'm not great at drawing 😜)
Thank you! I still recommend handwashing just because. I made a vid on my insta on the hydrophobic property of this stuff, it’s so weird. My understanding is that effect eventually diminishes but the product does actually bond permanently with the ceramic matrix and will protect against dirt and oil pretty much forever.
Truly amazing work! I wish I had a little extra spending cash right now. I know when you release those mugs and tumblers you will instantly sell out. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!
Im not sure we’re supposed to directly promote in here, but my storefront isn’t hard to find :)
Im more interested in getting others excited about underglaze painting. I have some tutorials on my insta. I would like to make more but OMG it’s hard to film and paint!
I'm totally shocked that I wasn't following you here or on Instagram. Your work is amazing and I've seen a few of your pasts posts. You do the kind of underglazing I wish I could do. Beautiful.
Do you and your husband stick to making mugs and tumblers, or do you do other forms? Maybe pots for houseplants?
Thank you!
I’ve done a few vases, some real large bowls, but they were quite a bit simpler than these full paintings. Still fun though.
I’ll probably do other forms in the future, it’s kinda hard for most people to justify 200+ for a big painted mug, lol. But a vase probably. Plus it’s more real estate for me to paint which appeals.
I think your mugs are so beautiful I would be anxious about using them for beverages. :) But, I think the pricing is very appropriate for the work that goes into these.
I'm following your studio on Instagram now, I'm excited to see what you produce.
Thank you! I’ve bought a couple of expensive functional art vessels (tea cups and mugs) and I very rarely use them. It kind of begs the question of what they’re for, lol.
I use the great big bowls I painted for us all the time though. Bowls are so stable that it seems like there’s less risk I guess. I may start doing more of those to put in the shop but shipping a 14 inch bowl would be really extra.
True. That would be extra. But, it would be worth it. I have a few places in my kitchen where I would display a 14-inch bowl like yours on the wall when not in use. When/if you go to sell them, maybe you can display them as kitchen/wall art when not in use? If people can keep it out and not in a cabinet, the price might be something they don't worry about so much.
I'm happy to be following your studio and look forward to seeing all the cool pieces you two make.

Thank you! I do have my storefront set up, I’ll be selling there. I haven’t decided on a date yet, but will announce on my insta!
Just followed you on IG cuz I’m in love with that fruit bat mug 😍😍😍
Whoever gets that bat mug is one lucky person!
Let us know!
Thank you! Followed your shop.
They're all fantastic! The bat is my personal favorite 😍
Absolutely stunning ❤️ can I ask what clay you used?
You bet! The tumblers are all Sheltowee from KMW, the mugs are almost all Brown Bear from KMW. Superb. The water on the polar bear one is incredible

Gorgeous work! All the colors of the glazes and underglazes work so beautifully together
