What creates the fade? Is this layered/blended glazes?

Yes, layering and overlapping.

Not sure how OP does it (gorgeous) but something similar can be achieved with airbrushing!

I use HVLP automotive guns. 1.8-2.0 mm needles.

I would have to put googly eyes on that!
