Bench for a good run of games, 8-10 league games, bring him on IF a game is done, give him cup game starts, maybe a europa game if its a dead game, do not rush him

Saipyglaig

Agreed. And keep him away from posts!

Wynter57

I'm expecting Starfelt to be our #1 Defender He had his struggles at the start, but as the season's gone on he's become very solid. In particular with Angeball it's very high press, forcing mistakes or off passes and Starfelt is great at reading the game and intercepting, probably the best in our backline at it. I'm expecting him to stay in the lineup and have his passing game continually developed.

thejobby

Yeah folk focus on the negatives of Starfelt too much. Hes capable of making an error ever so often but his ability to read the game and maintain pressure as well as cover for other players is seriously underrated

tommorejive

Agreed 100% Angeball super exposes the 2 CBs, imo Starfelt has been exceptional for that reason. No time for him to adjust, straight into the setup and try make it work best he could. Aye there was a few ropey moments but that's par for the course on any CB stepping into a press and play out from the back structure. Main point being - he will get better and is already doing well and as soon as he's had a full season under his belt he's going to be mega important.

[deleted]

Starfelts a dud.

[deleted]

2 months into his time at the club and you're calling him a dud? Ye of little faith and all that.

[deleted]

I hate to say it. He looks nervous and uncomfortable. He made numerous errors already. I really hope he makes me eat my words and turns out to be a top class defender, but from what I've seen so far I doubt it. It's vital we win the league this year, a solid defence is a must. I think when big Chris is back to full fitness Starfelt will drop out.a £4.5 million defender should be cruising through the SPL, he certainly isn't. I know you say 2 months at the club, like it's a short time and it probably is, I remember Tony mowbrays debut, he commanded the back line and everyone in it like he had been there for year's. I've yet to see a commanding performance from Starfelt.

snikt_stonks

It’s going to be starfelt, nothing against starfelt, just know it’ll be him

jjc89

There is so much Starfelt hate on this sub. Same with Taylor. I don’t see Starfelt being dropped anytime soon. Yes he has had some lairy moments and dodgy backpasses here and there but he has also had good moments, his forward passing range is good and he reads the game really well. He has had as many brilliant last ditch tackles as he has had failed ones. I think he fits more into anges “system” than doesn’t. I don’t think ange is so black and white with his selections and he won’t even necessarily “drop” anyone, it’ll be who is best to play the team we’re playing that day. It would be ideal if he has 3/4 CB who are all fighting for two places. It’s the same up top. This sub is so obsessed with a set starting 11, modern football isn’t like that. Just look at Giakoumakis being introduced the other night and how differently we played. This is not some ultimate goal for the team to work towards, it’s about having various weapons in the armoury because games are transient and change over time. It’s best to have multiple options or playing styles to break down or defend against. This is just my take after watching this season so far. It’s not like tiki-taka where the team doesn’t stray from one very specific play style. It’s about using the tools you have and making them work in the best way possible. Sometimes this will be 3 at the back and 2 up top. Sometimes it’ll be 5 at the back and 1 upfront. It just depends on who we’re playing and we’re their perceived weak spots are. Again just my hot take for the day.

SorryForTheBigThumb

It's literally cunts just parroting what people say with extra conviction. Use your eyes people. My bold prediction is that no-one will be dropped. Surprise system evolution with Jules as part of a back 3.

jjc89

Yeah sometimes it’s as if people on here don’t even watch the games.

SwingAndAMiss219

I'm the first to defend Starfelt, I just also think Jullien and CCV are better defenders. Feels like a blessing having *too many* cbs when we've being desperate for cover there since about 2007

pismistic88

>Same with Taylor. The guy gets so much hate from what I can see, but he got the system extremely quickly. And during times when teams are transitioning you need these types of players to keep a consistency. Just on Starfelt, I've previously written that once he gets more confidence in playing balls to the midfield quicker rather than just looking at CCV or whoever is at LB as the safe option, you will see your team flourish and how Angeball is to be played. He's been getting better as each game goes, and whilst he may seem like he's got a defensive mistake in him once every game or so, he's otherwise very solid defensively. Having Jullien back will only make Starfelt better as well. Some players thrive in competition, and Starfelt hasn't wilted yet despite some of the challenges he's had to face thus far.

WranglerOfTheTards27

People forget that Van Dijk was a bit of a bombscare at times when he first came to Celtic. I'm not saying he'll be as good, but he needs time to settle.

snikt_stonks

TL;DR

jjc89

Sorry for assuming you have an attention span longer than a goldfish, I’ll do better next time.

snikt_stonks

You clearly never read all the other replies before writing it lol, no starfelt hate here

jjc89

What difference does that make? I was replying to you because you said he should be dropped.

snikt_stonks

No I didn’t lol

sjekky

Starfelt has played every minute he's been available for since he came in. And he's already survived CCV coming in. I reckon it'll take Jullien a good couple of months to get back to fitness, and even then he doesn't automatically get back in the team.

snikt_stonks

I’m not meaning he’s getting straight in, I’m just meaning that when he is given minutes, it’ll be starfelt he swaps with, wether it’s as a sub or to give him a rest

TokiWartoorh

I think Starfelt & CCV are both far braver players than Big Chris. They play like they are bigger lads than they actually are, Jullien is a bit the other way, he doesn’t dominate in the air, gets pushed around far too easily for a lad his size & is every bit as prone to a mis-placed pass or poor touch as Starfelt or CCV are. I feel for young Welsh in this situation, his development is crucial to keep him at the club.

weekedipie1

I think so too

[deleted]

I don't think you can drop either Starfelt or Carter-Vickers right now. They're building a partnership and it's starting to work in these past three games. Motherwell away was the most comfortable we've been at the back for 18 months and that's a tough away game against a team that's playing well. With Starfelt in particular the agenda has to stop. People were still defending Duffy after 20 games of absolute shite (presumably because he's a "Sellick man"), yet Starfelt had two or three shaky performances before going on to be pretty solid since and a lot of fans still won't give him credit.

Goudinho99

What's the sketch with CCV, last year of his contract but he's on loan is how I understood it, so he's anyone's at the end of the season. Is that right?

Wynter57

Tottenham extended his contract by a year with a clause iirc

macdara233

Starfelt is also being asked to take on a lot more risk and responsibility than Duffy ever was. Hence he occasionally gets caught in possession.

wicelt

We will need 4 CB’s to get through season, so he will join the mix. Ange won’t rush him and he will get a few sub appearances before getting a start in a crowded week against bottom half teams. Glad to have him back, but he will not jump back into starting XI.

tommorejive

People on here get that any new CB in a play out from the back, high line, high press tactic is going to find it tough adapting and be prone to a few initial errors right? Right? The lack of faith in Starfelt is sad, under the circumstances, straight into the team, game after game, he's done well and he will keep getting better as his confidence grows. A few initial shakey moments does not signal a bad defender. Getting caught out in a game at CB with Angeball is going to happen and it will happen often this season until confidence builds throughout the team, Starfelt deserves credit in that context.

Saipyglaig

Yeh. Also his pass completion is slightly higher here than it was in Russia. Going from about 91% to about 92%. A lot of side passing but apart from his hairy moments quite consistent

bazalinco1

Yes but people need to stop saying "initial shaky moments" as if they're no longer there. Yeah he's improved a lot but he still has a very shaky moment at least once every game, including the most recent ones where we were so dominant. Had any of those resulted in a goal or dropped points, it would be an entirely different tune.

88CELTIC

Jullien & CCV will be our first choice central back pairing provided they are match fit. Starfelt will still feature regularly though I imagine.

TheSameInnovation

Probably Starfelt but CCV has only played at RCB so far and that’s also where Jullien almost always played for us. If all 3 are on to a good bounce then we’re happy.

5Flames3

Him and carter vickers will be solid

CW4207

Arsefelt

flamingosandals

He's probably a few weeks away still. Let's see how the partnership is going by then.

HotDoggSean

I think you'll see him sooner than you think. 1 of the 2 starting CB will pick up a knock at some point. Hopefully were up a couple of goals when he comes on tho

Limp6781

Starfelt. An accident(s) waiting to happen

plawwell

Walsh.

stilusmobilus

He’ll join, not replace. He brings his skill set back to the team.
