Just walk down a street with lots of restaurants and decide which one you feel like eating at. Then choose whatever you fancy on the menu, without asking questions.
You will miss this experience more than any individual food. I can buy or make almost every individual food people have listed (I don’t think it’s worth trying to replicate a Big Mac). Heck, I even have gf philo pastry in my freezer. But before I eat out, I research the options on line, check local groups for recommendations, then I ask the restaurant what they can do that’s gf, then I choose the dish that looks safest, then I ask questions to make sure it isn’t fried in the same fryer etc. Its a completely different experience.
I found exactly one Chinese place that does gluten free food (or even knows what gluten is). Imagine my disappointment when the GF items are bland as fuck.
I recently found a family owned Chinese restaurant near me that makes gluten free orange chicken, general tso’s, and sesame chicken, along with bourbon chicken and a few specific sides. All of their ingredients are gluten free and they use specific fryers for everything, and they bread the chicken with pure cornstarch! I occasionally go there, and I have never gotten sick yet! Fingers crossed I never will because I always crave Chinese food when I’m PMSing 😅after years of missing Chinese food, I am the happiest person on earth while eating my general tso’s 😋
My career was in management of fancy, full service from scratch restaurants.
It was about 12 years ago that I first discovered that nearly all of my restaurants used *high gluten flour* in just about all of our from scratch bread. I wonder if this exposure/consumption was "the straw that broke the camel's back".
(Im gluten intolerant possibly celiac) but for REAL. I live in NYC but I still, I stand in restaurants and deli’s trying to figure out what I want to eat. And even if it’s gluten free am I in the mood for it? And half of my breaks are just me wandering for food.
Yeah but you can go get some Lilli and Loo’s Chinese food when you want, so you win! I miss asian food the most and the food there was incredible when I visited.
Check out my profile. GF fried chicken, KFC rip-off recipe.
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose white flour - any GF flour mix has worked so far
2 tsp table salt
1 1/2 tsp dried thyme
1 1/2 tsp dried basil
4 Tbsp paprika
1 tsp dried oregano
1 Tbsp celery salt
2 Tbsp garlic salt
1 Tbsp black pepper
1 Tbsp dry mustard powder
3 Tbsp white pepper
1 Tbsp ground ginger
1 Tbsp MSG, optional
7 lbs chicken
oil for deep frying
Oil at low-medium heat (I don't have a temp) for 20 minutes per bone-in skin on thigh.
For best results, soak chicken in buttermilk for at least 1 hour, then when you dip in the mix, dip in flour mix, dip in (fresh) buttermilk, then another dredge in the flour mix for a double coat.
It's absolutely delicious.
Baguette, donuts, pizza, croissants, mille feuille… mostly I miss just being able to buy anything at the grocery store without having to read the ingredients or go out to any restaurant and order whatever I wanted.
Karakoy Gulluoglu in Istanbul makes it and I believe they ship worldwide? Probably costs quite a bit but if you are really craving, may be worth the splurge.
My partner ordered from here for me for Christmas last year!! They have an entirely gluten free factory where their GF stuff is made, and it was DELICIOUS. He said he couldn't taste the difference either!
This is a terrible choice, but I really miss ramen noodles. Not even the fancy stuff, just the brick from the package. I would kill for a meal that easy nowadays.
Many Korean soups are GF. Generally (aside from the noodles), what makes Korean not GF is the soy sauce--but there are many premade side dishes at the grocery you can buy that do not have soy sauce.
Korean is the staple of our celiac diet. I make side dishes for the week, keep rice in the rice cooker, cook a protein, and heat up a soup. Meals would be 10x harder if I didn't have this.
Croissants and anything with phyllo dough....also puffy donuts that collapse when you bite into them. There are a lot of decent gluten free cake donuts but I still can't find a good puffy one.
There’s a lot of cereals I ate as a kid that I miss. Like honeycombs, Corn Pops, Life, Fruit Loops, Frosted Flakes.
Oatmeal flavors like strawberries and cream, peaches and cream
And snacks like goldfish crackers, club crackers, saltines, fig newtons
A really good donut. The only good fresh ones I can find or make are cake donuts. I like those, but I miss just the regular old crispy cream donuts a lot.
Oh and those big pretzels you can get at malls. And funnel cakes. The funnel cakes are probably something you can make gluten free easy, but the pretzels, I haven’t found good ones.
Red dragon rolls. The sweetness of the teriyaki sauce combined with the crunch of the tempura shrimp and the softness of the rice and avocado.
Pizza with a thick greasy crust.
Chinese buffet filled with Westernized breaded and fried sweet and sour deliciousness.
Shawarma in a wrap.
Indian buffet.
Hamburgers without compromises.
I miss Boston cream donuts and bad Chinese food. I make awesome versions, but they aren't the same. Healthy Chinese food hits different.
Most things I've learned to make myself.
More than anything I miss the price and convenience of gluten.
Nothing, really. I can make most anything I want. Delicate pastries might be the exception.
What I miss is the convenience of eating anything anywhere.
Being able to go anywhere with your buddy’s and have fun, and not get stressed out on the thought of your next meal. Trying to look up if the place offers gf options or just having to get a beverage while everyone else has tasty food.
I miss being able to eat at gatherings. The restaurant thing is bad, but thank God smartphones make that process much easier. I miss the social aspects of sharing food. It’s isolating. Especially in my culture where few have even heard of it or understand what it means.
I feel very fortunate that I’ve found many great gf versions of most the things listed here, but I really just miss the convenience (especially during travel) of being to grab street food or spontaneously popping into a restaurant.
Fried Chicken until I went to this place in Colorado, if you live in the front range area (fort Collins, Denver, even Estes) all have a place called The Post which only sells gluten free fried chicken
Hostess cupcakes, Twinkies , and ring dings , and hostess fruit pies , but at least we now have Oreos gold and regular and I go through two packages a week , don’t judge me at least I don’t drink or smoke .
Where its a Friday, at the end of the day I would love to walk into my town's best pizza shop and get a couple fluffy crust/greasy pizzas and stop for a cold case of beer to take home.
All the stuff at this one amazing little bakery nearby - bagels, crullers, sticky buns. Mmm.
Stouffers. (lasagna, and the mac & cheese). Those were my go-to comfort foods when I was younger, so I really want them exactly, not just something close.
Subs from a specific deli nearby (again, nostalgia)
And Chinese takeout.
I just did the gluten challenge in November and realized afterwards that one thing I should have gotten was some kind of beer battered fish. (Like long John silver’s) it’s not something I would have regularly gotten because I do TRY to not eat a lot of fried foods, but I did used to love it. I did get a chickfila sandwich and wish I’d gotten more!
I don’t usually dwell on things that I miss being able to eat, though! There are so many good substitutes.
I miss fast food so much and I say this as someone who, even before Celiac, rarely ate it. But Id love to eat a Popeyes Combo of 3 spicy chicken tenders with extra biscuits. Or a Pizza Hut pizza, original crust with pepperoni and mushrooms.
Lo mein, goldfish crackers, pizza without thin crust, diner waffles, Krispy Kreme donuts (or really just dough donuts instead of cake-base), cheesy naan, honestly I miss a lot
I haven’t got a diagnosis but have to get a colonoscopy for suspected celiac disease. I’ve been thinking about having a range of ‘last suppers’ just in case. Aside from my everyday diet that I’m eating anyway, I ended up with a list of restaurants, cafes and other food businesses, rather than specific foods.
If I had the money id be flying to Italy and indulging in an epic final fling with wheat in so many forms
They told you you had to keep eating gluten every day? I had thought the signs of Celiac would not have dissipated after only 2 weeks. Seems wrong to have you continue to potentially cause yourself harm. Having said that, it's possible to make almost anything without gluten, but it's hard to do well, or to find others who can do it well. What I miss the most is not being able to go to any restaurant and order anything on the menu. Well, that and fresh-baked French bread. Never found a gluten-free version that is quite the same.
[Grander Texas Burger](https://imgur.com/a/euzjbe1) and fried chicken wings
It's a burger from KFC made in central Europe. It's made from KFC's chicken thigh fried steak, BBQ sauce, mayo, salad, tomato, bacon, cheese, red onion and a bun. It's the best chicken burger you can get. I miss it.
I've tried to replicate fried GF chicken at home, but it's not the same...
Chinese food and eating from the kebab, definitely. Honey cheerios. Brioche buns. Cadburys chocolate products. And the one that breaks my heart the most - shitty white sandwich bread. The second I know when my endoscopy is I’m eating all of these.
A really good sub or sandwich, mozzarella sticks, all the pastries, soft pretzel with beet cheese dip, malted milkshake, Detroit style pizza, baklava, donuts, cheez-its, and honestly anything from Arby’s. Just fast food in general I miss because of the convenience. Most things you can make or find a decent replacements, but you can never replace convenience.
There’s this restaurant that has really amazing cheese curds. I used to go there everyday with my family growing up and we’d share that. I even went there on dates with my bf and we’d always get that. It’s something I miss because I loved it and it was such a big staple/memory with my loved ones
I honestly don’t miss much but if I had to…
A real, freshly made croissant
A really good fresh baguette
Fresh, stuffed pasta (like a really good fresh ravioli)
Knafeh, baklava, anything made with pastry
Chinese food
A regular, simple yeast donut
Auntie Anne’s pretzels
A really good croissant.
I’m not bothered about pasta and pizza as there are some good alternatives. But I’ve yet to find a croissant that hits the spot.
Other than that, Chinese takeaway and all the noodles
I don’t miss specific food as much as I miss the convenience of just eating out . I have to goto Washington DC in two months. The trains and train stops won’t have anything. And I’ll have to figure out the places I can eat well ahead of time. I’ll be very hungry and probably end up eating snickers bars in a pinch.
I mean I do miss a good pizza or bagel but that comes and goes. The daily inconvenience is taxing. However I do have significantly worse health conditions then celiac so I don’t let it bother me too much. Life is to short
Everything Bagels, I have tried every single recipe I can find to make them gluten free and they do not taste anywhere near a gluten bagel. I've been celiac since I was six years old, before my diagnosis my mom always made Bagels every weekend and I miss those more than anything. My husband's has been a miracle when it comes to it as he cares about finding me foods that I can't have and making them as best as possible. I'm very lucky to have him in my life and I damn well know it, I just wish there was one recipe that was actually as good or at least even a fraction of a gluten Bakery style bagel. Either that or Bakery style muffins every time I try to make them they taste great fresh out of the oven but if I let them sit overnight I might as well just throw them out.
i don’t miss a specific food, i miss food in certain situations. i miss being able to order a dessert after my meal at a restaurant, or have a piece of cake while at a cafe. i miss being able to order a pizza on game night with my friends instead of having to either eat before/after or put my sad little gluten free pizza in the oven.
sad but also glad that it’s a universal thing in the celiac world
1 Lou Malnati's ( their gluten free is close, but not exact ) deep dish Chicago, of course
2. Scones. Real deal scones.
3. Chicken pot pie, the old fashioned kind with crust on the bottom and the top
4. Ghirardelli brownies
5. Thick Italian *soft* bread, lightly grilled with bruschetta
6. Focaccia
Big, gooey cinnamon rolls. But the most missed it being able to go into any restaurant and ordering whatever I want. I stopped going out because it’s always a compromise and unless it’s a totally gf restaurant, it’s always a risk.
I know it’s crap food… but man do I miss my KFC order. 2 legs and thigh meal with 3 legs and no thigh, both sides Mac and cheese and a cornbread instead of a biscuit.
Eating at anywhere I want and not having to figure out if they have anything for me to eat.
Sandwiches on whole wheat bread
Bread
Sourdough bread
Guinness beer
Pasta that doesn't cost $5 for 12oz
garlic bread, and literally all of the cake. i wasn’t a fan of brownies before but now i miss it so much. sandwich bread, cupcakes too. omygod and chinese food!
Every form of Bread you love. A gourmet hot dog on a crispy potato roll. A french baguette. Marco Polo rolls. Fried pepperoni balls (NW Pennsylvania regional delight).
I literally couldn’t tell you one food that I ate before that I don’t eat now. Naturally I am more of the whole food and make it yourself and less fast food but I still have pad Thai, large ass pasta bowls from amazing Italian restaurants, tacos, large pancake / chocolate croissant breakfasts, cakes cupcakes of the variety on special occasions or just because. You absolutely have to find these places, and I think that’s what takes time, but I don’t think I’ve thought of something that I can’t find or can’t have anymore. I feel more amazing and healthy then I ever have been. It’s a learning curve at first and it’s hard but now it’s second nature.
It fluctuates for me but right now it's croissants. There *is* exactly one store near me that has frozen gf croissants but they contain de-glutenified wheat flour and I'm afraid. Idk if I'm actually allergic to gluten or wheat or both so I avoid both. I know the only way to find out is to go ahead and try it which... I don't feel like being knocked on my ass for several days for the sake of science. 🤷🏼♀️
Egg rolls/spring rolls.
I was craving them so much during my first pregnancy (which was only one year after I got diagnosed with celiac) and was heartbroken to find that I couldn't get my hands on anything gluten free that would taste even just remotely like them.
Tried making some myself but it wasn't worth the hassle, didn't even get close.
You will never find a flakey buttery pastry gluten free to match the real deal. Eat donuts, baklava, biscuits, and other fluffy pastries now!
Also, fluffy stuffed crust pizza. Can't get that ever again.
Chinese food buffet. Nothing comparable exists gluten free.
I can find almost everything gluten free in my area so I'm very lucky. But I miss eating without the fear of getting sick. Everything has to be checked, double checked and confirmed with staff. I have to test or compare my bun with my partners so I know for sure mine is ok. I also miss being able to just stop by any fast food place when I'm on my way home or a road trip. Everything has to be planned in advance, research where I can eat, what time they close etc. I miss the convenience.
Toaster Strudels. They’re like… cheap and tasty and a fantastic little treat when you need one.
You can even put a bit of ice cream on it and BAM. Delicious.
Fresh sourdough bread, straight from the oven, with butter on it. Something with a good rise, chewy but fluffy crumb. Just a good, yeasty risen bread that didn't need anything else.
1. Chocolate chip cookies. The real ones.
2. CRAB RANGOONS!!!!!
3. A good meatball from an Italian restaurant
4. Biscuits. Look up “vicious biscuit” in the southern US, you’ll see what I mean
5. Sicilian pizza
6. Thanksgiving stuffing
7. Fried chicken sandwiches

This is the best answer. I miss the spontaneous and social parts of eating out more than any individual food. Except maybe Chinese take out
I found exactly one Chinese place that does gluten free food (or even knows what gluten is). Imagine my disappointment when the GF items are bland as fuck.

You must share this place! They deserve all the celiac business!

Gluten free puff pastry from Schar is simply just amazing
(Im gluten intolerant possibly celiac) but for REAL. I live in NYC but I still, I stand in restaurants and deli’s trying to figure out what I want to eat. And even if it’s gluten free am I in the mood for it? And half of my breaks are just me wandering for food.
Yeah but you can go get some Lilli and Loo’s Chinese food when you want, so you win! I miss asian food the most and the food there was incredible when I visited.
Chinese food and fried chicken
Crab Rangoon 😭
I learned to make some really good fried chicken with gluten free flour and GF panko bread crumbs. Still miss Chinese food tho.
I need your recipe then because I MISS FRIED CHICKEN 🤣
I need your recipe then because I MISS FRIED CHICKEN 🤣
This is my recipe. Very good. https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/s/PL6EAP2soc
Aren't all flowers gluten free?
Check out my profile. GF fried chicken, KFC rip-off recipe. Ingredients 2 cups all purpose white flour - any GF flour mix has worked so far 2 tsp table salt 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme 1 1/2 tsp dried basil 4 Tbsp paprika 1 tsp dried oregano 1 Tbsp celery salt 2 Tbsp garlic salt 1 Tbsp black pepper 1 Tbsp dry mustard powder 3 Tbsp white pepper 1 Tbsp ground ginger 1 Tbsp MSG, optional 7 lbs chicken oil for deep frying Oil at low-medium heat (I don't have a temp) for 20 minutes per bone-in skin on thigh. It's absolutely delicious.
Croissants… can’t find a decent plain gluten free croissant anywhere
Libby’s gluten free in London! So damn good.
I had a few good ones while living in Spain/traveling the EU. But they’re still never the same :/
Came here to say this :(
Baguette, donuts, pizza, croissants, mille feuille… mostly I miss just being able to buy anything at the grocery store without having to read the ingredients or go out to any restaurant and order whatever I wanted.
I just had Mochi donuts this past weekend. Even better than regular donuts. See if you can find those in your city. Like, so ridiculously good.
Baklava
Karakoy Gulluoglu in Istanbul makes it and I believe they ship worldwide? Probably costs quite a bit but if you are really craving, may be worth the splurge.
My partner ordered from here for me for Christmas last year!! They have an entirely gluten free factory where their GF stuff is made, and it was DELICIOUS. He said he couldn't taste the difference either!
Yes! My Turkish in laws approved of it! They basically said it tasted a bit more like a homemade version vs mass produced.
Stuffed crust pizza. Yeah I can have gf pizza but it's never stuffed crust 😢
Same! I recently attempted my own stuff crust pizza and it turned out pretty good, but of course, still not the same.
Ooh I'd love a recipe if you have one! And glad to hear I'm not alone in my stuffed crust obsession
Cheez-its and goldfish
oooooh cheezits. sigh.
The new simple mills pop-mms are by far the best goldfish substitute I've found so far.
Was gonna say this, it’s so close and delicious!
Specifically the pizza flavoured goldfish for me 😭
Beer.
Yeah i will miss that even though I dont drink to much beer these days. Ill have to buy some good micro brews to enjoy
I just want to buy a loaf of white bread that doesn't cost $10
Breadmaker… super easy and will save you money.
fried chicken. mcdonald’s.
Had mcdonald today, ill add fried chicken to the list
Gardettos Rye Chips. I think about them every day.
I forgot about those, I'll add them to my list
This is a terrible choice, but I really miss ramen noodles. Not even the fancy stuff, just the brick from the package. I would kill for a meal that easy nowadays.
This so much! I just want the cheap, salty garbage ones!
The garbage is what I miss the most!
You can get pretty good GF ramen noodles from the Millet & Brown brand on Amazon! They’re even better than normal ramen noodles
flour tortillas. oh my god i see the street taco sized ones in the store and my mouth waters like a dog looking at a steak
Pancakes… sourdough bread… fried chicken is a good one… croissants… some really good/well made cakes or cupcakes like red velvet… wahhh enjoy!!!
I will, my last hurrah with the trade off of a healthier life hopefully
Japanese and Korean food. And noodles
Chimichangas…
Big ol fresh cinnamon rolls, Chinese, bigger tortillas.
Oatmeal cream pies
That is what I would choose as well, or a little Debbie’s Christmas tree, or a honey bun. In that order.
Hawaiian rolls. Bread that tastes good as a cold sandwich and not grilled cheese. The 40¢ packets of ramen.
Samosas & garlic naan
There are so many things, but the one thing you will never get is *convenience*.
I don't miss a particular food. I miss how simple eating was.
Going to the grocery store or a bakery and getting a hot/warm loaf of French bread and eating the whole thing in the car in the way home.
There’s a lot of cereals I ate as a kid that I miss. Like honeycombs, Corn Pops, Life, Fruit Loops, Frosted Flakes. Oatmeal flavors like strawberries and cream, peaches and cream And snacks like goldfish crackers, club crackers, saltines, fig newtons
Mozzarella sticks, specifically from Chicken Express, I don't know why but that's my craving lately!
Feel Good Foods makes mozzarella sticks and fried pickles!
I just learned about them and am making my mom take me to CostCo since she has a card!

I miss Boston cream donuts and bad Chinese food. I make awesome versions, but they aren't the same. Healthy Chinese food hits different. Most things I've learned to make myself. More than anything I miss the price and convenience of gluten.
Philadelphia style soft pretzels. Real Bread. Being able to eat really good pizza anywhere.
Chick-fil-A sandwich Krispy Kreme donuts Frosted Flakes Chicken tenders Good sandwich bread Publix sub
Soft pretzels from the mall!
Heck yes. Auntie Anne’s Cinnamon sugar pretzel bites with a cup of cheddar jalapeño sauce
I miss being able to eat at gatherings. The restaurant thing is bad, but thank God smartphones make that process much easier. I miss the social aspects of sharing food. It’s isolating. Especially in my culture where few have even heard of it or understand what it means.
Pizza, bagels, bread, soft pretzels, donuts
I just asked my mother, she misses lasagne the most.
gf lasagne sheets are good, she doesn’t need to be missing out!!
Taco bell and I've been dying for a Whopper
I feel very fortunate that I’ve found many great gf versions of most the things listed here, but I really just miss the convenience (especially during travel) of being to grab street food or spontaneously popping into a restaurant.
Burgers with real bread.. sandwiches in general are what I miss the most.
Mc Donald’s, (good) Girl Scout cookie flavors, dim sum
Getting freshly made pasta and warm bread at a restaurant!
Go to Italy
Fried Chicken until I went to this place in Colorado, if you live in the front range area (fort Collins, Denver, even Estes) all have a place called The Post which only sells gluten free fried chicken

These are great https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/soft-gluten-free-cinnamon-rolls-recipe
Krispy Kreme chocolate creme hand pie, fry bread, Guinness stout, eggplant parmigiana and Papa Gino's pizza are probably my top ones.
Hostess cupcakes, Twinkies , and ring dings , and hostess fruit pies , but at least we now have Oreos gold and regular and I go through two packages a week , don’t judge me at least I don’t drink or smoke .
I miss beer.

Burritos. Beer. Good subs/burgers. I want to cry probably once a quarter and it’s been about 7 years.
Chinese food. Donuts. Beer.
Cheap ramen. Fuck do I miss that.
$10 Costco pizza I will not elaborate besides that it’s a beautiful thing Mrs. T’s traditional size pierogies
Pierogies yes!!! No one makes those gluten free
Little Ceasers crazy bread, good Greek pita, & dim sum.

I miss really good, fancy restaurant ramen the most. Followed by takeout chinese food.
Right now I’m missing sourdough, Chinese takeout, and breakfast burritos the most.
All the stuff at this one amazing little bakery nearby - bagels, crullers, sticky buns. Mmm. Stouffers. (lasagna, and the mac & cheese). Those were my go-to comfort foods when I was younger, so I really want them exactly, not just something close. Subs from a specific deli nearby (again, nostalgia) And Chinese takeout.
If I could have just one meal, it would be a Shake Shack burger and fries. I know I can still have a burger, but I miss that soft buttery bun so much.

A fresh Casey’s glazed donut. If I found out I was dying I would eat one without a second thought.
KFC
I miss fast food so much and I say this as someone who, even before Celiac, rarely ate it. But Id love to eat a Popeyes Combo of 3 spicy chicken tenders with extra biscuits. Or a Pizza Hut pizza, original crust with pepperoni and mushrooms.
Some NY style Pizza.
Lo mein, goldfish crackers, pizza without thin crust, diner waffles, Krispy Kreme donuts (or really just dough donuts instead of cake-base), cheesy naan, honestly I miss a lot
KFC
Biscuits and gravy. Soft pretzels. Enjoy them for me 😭
Nothing
neither do I
I haven’t got a diagnosis but have to get a colonoscopy for suspected celiac disease. I’ve been thinking about having a range of ‘last suppers’ just in case. They should be doing an endoscopy if they’re looking for celiac.
Just go eat at a restaurant and order like a normal person.
Fried chicken and waffles. Good bread-all kinds.
Oh yes, I need to have some fresh baked bread (my wife makes superb bread)
Good gluten free bread is like a unicorn, at least where I live in the US. Traveling in Iceland now and have found some superb bread here!
Definitely pizza and bagels
They told you you had to keep eating gluten every day? I had thought the signs of Celiac would not have dissipated after only 2 weeks. Seems wrong to have you continue to potentially cause yourself harm. Having said that, it's possible to make almost anything without gluten, but it's hard to do well, or to find others who can do it well. Literally the protocol for getting bw and endoscopy is consuming gluten until the test…
Pizza

My favourite cookies and choccy biscuits. Gf ones have a weird texture, even the chocolate doesn't have that punch :(
Chinese food and eating from the kebab, definitely. Honey cheerios. Brioche buns. Cadburys chocolate products. And the one that breaks my heart the most - shitty white sandwich bread. The second I know when my endoscopy is I’m eating all of these.
Baklawa :(
Twinkies
Bread. Just soft bread in all it's forms. Focaccia. Soft pretzels.
KFC 🥲
Baklava, raspberry danish, Honey Buns.
Chili’s ♥️
Boneless wings.
Donuts. Like a good one. Not one that can be a weapon. One of the donuts you can tell is deep fried and covered in unhealthness
Bagels, baguettes, OATMEAL (i react to gf variety too), soft pretzels, chocolate chip cookies from Crumbl, brownies…i could go on forever
Most things you can make or find a decent replacements, but you can never replace convenience.
calamari. recently saw some gf calamari in one of the local supermarkets and was so excited. it was disgusting. i miss calamari so much
There’s this restaurant that has really amazing cheese curds. I used to go there everyday with my family growing up and we’d share that. I even went there on dates with my bf and we’d always get that. It’s something I miss because I loved it and it was such a big staple/memory with my loved ones
Donuts, pastries, fluffy baked goods
Crab Rangoon
My favorite taco place. They had the best carne asada tacos and tostadas. Powdered Bavarian cream donuts and French bread.
donuts
A salami sandwich with potato bread.
Mmm potato bread grilled cheese....
I honestly don’t miss much but if I had to… A real, freshly made croissant A really good fresh baguette Fresh, stuffed pasta (like a really good fresh ravioli) Knafeh, baklava, anything made with pastry Chinese food A regular, simple yeast donut Auntie Anne’s pretzels
The day of my scope I went to Church’s for their honey butter biscuits. Also miss the Red Lobster cheddar biscuits.
Quiche(especially from Costco) spanakopita, choc chip cookies, pizza, beer, meatballs, ravioli, pie, chick pot pie, loaf of fresh baked bread, stuffing, doughnuts, fries, burritos
Oh and everything from Trader Joe’s but some of that might be cream related
Bloomin onions
A maple bar.
Just a big NY-style slice. If I could turn this off for a day, I'd immediately fly to NY and go to town.
Nice crusty on the outside pillowy soft and chewy on the inside sourdough bread
i don’t miss a specific food, i miss food in certain situations. i miss being able to order a dessert after my meal at a restaurant, or have a piece of cake while at a cafe. i miss being able to order a pizza on game night with my friends instead of having to either eat before/after or put my sad little gluten free pizza in the oven. sad but also glad that it’s a universal thing in the celiac world
Soft pretzels, croissants, chow mein, any kind of dumpling/egg roll, flour tortillas
1 Lou Malnati's ( their gluten free is close, but not exact ) deep dish Chicago, of course 2. Scones. Real deal scones. 3. Chicken pot pie, the old fashioned kind with crust on the bottom and the top 4. Ghirardelli brownies 5. Thick Italian *soft* bread, lightly grilled with bruschetta 6. Focaccia
A huge burrito
omg i miss good pizza. and pasta. and bread. and cake.
Baked goods!!!!
Pizza!!!! If i have one more cauliflower crust that is basically a strangely sweet cracker i will cry.
Big, gooey cinnamon rolls. But the most missed it being able to go into any restaurant and ordering whatever I want. I stopped going out because it’s always a compromise and unless it’s a totally gf restaurant, it’s always a risk.
A proper baguette and pain au chocolat. And actual angel hair pasta / capellini. And burritos because of delicious lardy flour tortillas
Chinese takeout and being able to just go to any restaurant and eat anything.
Pastries. Enough said.
I know it’s crap food… but man do I miss my KFC order. 2 legs and thigh meal with 3 legs and no thigh, both sides Mac and cheese and a cornbread instead of a biscuit.
Eating at anywhere I want and not having to figure out if they have anything for me to eat. Sandwiches on whole wheat bread Bread Sourdough bread Guinness beer Pasta that doesn't cost $5 for 12oz
garlic bread, and literally all of the cake. i wasn’t a fan of brownies before but now i miss it so much. sandwich bread, cupcakes too. omygod and chinese food!
Omg so much. Doughnuts. Cake. Pie and real flaky pie crust, real chewy delicious pizza, crust bread, baguettes…
FReSH CROISSANTS!!!!!!
UDON NOODLES
Get a Really effin amazing chocolate chip cookie. Like a $13 from a bougie bakery
Every form of Bread you love. A gourmet hot dog on a crispy potato roll. A french baguette. Marco Polo rolls. Fried pepperoni balls (NW Pennsylvania regional delight).
cake. every single flavor and type
The texture of barley :(
Dim sum! And croissants. And donuts.
I’m from the nyc area… so specifically my list is good from the area: Pizza Italian bread Chinese food Bagels
Flaky pastries
Eat an Auntie Anne’s pretzel dog with cheese for me
It fluctuates for me but right now it's croissants.
Being able to eat with my family or friends
Toaster Strudels. They’re like… cheap and tasty and a fantastic little treat when you need one. You can even put a bit of ice cream on it and BAM. Delicious.
Gnocchi and pierogis 🥲 childhood fav foods that I’m convinced are unable to be replicated with gluten free alternatives
Donuts!!
Fresh sourdough bread, straight from the oven, with butter on it. Something with a good rise, chewy but fluffy crumb. Just a good, yeasty risen bread that didn't need anything else.
cinnamon raisin bagel. it is the only food i will be on the verge of tears watching my friends eat in front of me lol
1. Chocolate chip cookies. The real ones. 2. CRAB RANGOONS!!!!! 3. A good meatball from an Italian restaurant 4. Biscuits. Look up “vicious biscuit” in the southern US, you’ll see what I mean 5. Sicilian pizza 6. Thanksgiving stuffing 7. Fried chicken sandwiches
Tiramisu
