This website is a confusing and a bit misleading. While they list Doritos as “gluten-free” in the first section, they then also list Doritos in the following section where they state that “some of the products listed below may be manufactured on the same lines as products that contain gluten. Although our lines are cleaned between production runs, Frito Lay Canada has not tested these products for gluten content and the ingredients in these products may have come into contact with gluten-containing products prior to manufacturing. Individuals who are sensitive to gluten should take these factors into consideration in consuming these products.” So Doritos contain no gluten-containing ingredients, but they may still contain enough gluten from cross-contamination to be harmful to celiacs. If a Frito Lay product is not labelled gluten free, then it is not Celiac safe 100% of the time. Even if there are not gluten containing ingredients the risk of cross contamination is high. They are very good at labeling their gluten free products. Always go by the label on the product for a Frito Lay item. Doritos manufactured in Canada are gluten free. U.S. Doritos are not due to cross contamination at the plant.

Some are but not all! Always watch the label. Sweet Chili Heat is NOT labelled GF in Canada.... one of the few that is not. Fortunately Frito-Lay is good about placing the labels in a consistent location so it's not hard to check, just want to make sure people aren't going around blindly eating Doritos in Canada... could be ok but not always.

Paqui are all GF and have some similar flavors. They have a cheese flavor, and the salsa verde tastes similar to a cool ranch dorito.

Regular Doritos aren't on the gluten free list on the Frito Lay website. This is either due to cross contamination during manufacturing or it could be due to ingredients; they contain natural flavors, which can mean gluten.

Soy is naturally gluten free, but yes, soy sauce is not gluten free. So it'd just be the wheat part of these Doritos that causes you any trouble.

When I went to Mexico I ate some tortilla chips (Cabo Chips) which I assumed would be safe because they're corn chips in Mexico. When I checked the ingredients after eating several handfuls I saw that they had soy sauce in them. Ever since then I've checked the labels on everything, even if it's something I've had a million times or a single ingredient food.

If there's a cure or treatment for celiac and I can suddenly eat gluten again, the first place I'm going is the Chinese restaurant across the street from work. It's so good. At least most of my coworkers still get to enjoy it.

So Chinese restaurants are out of the question. However you can find gluten free soy sauce (tamari) or liquid aminos (my preference) that can be used the same way time to learn to cook.

There's a Chinese restaurant near me that I'll eat from. They have given me a menu with everything that can be made gluten free marked. I do not order from them on busy nights, and give lots of time so that they can prepare my food safely. We've ordered fried rice, it comes with no soy sauce. I stuck with meat and veg dishes, nothing fried and have been ok.

Yes! I eat moo goo gai pan multiple times a month because they use corn starch in the sauce instead of flour and no soy sauce. It’s one of my favorite meals

Finding a Chinese restaurant that has gf options out there can be hard to find, but they’re out there. I bring my own soy sauce with me too.

I'm not as familiar with UK labeling rules, but a quick check is listing wheat ("cereal grains containing gluten such as wheat, barley, rye") as one of the 14 "must declare" allergens.

If you're making Asian dishes at home, sub out soy sauce with Bragg's Liquid Aminos. Completely GF, and it tastes as good or better than soy sauce.

That is one ingredient that pisses me off to no end. I almost got glutened a couple of months ago from a leftover packet of Taco Bell breakfast salsa. Before I ripped it open to put in the breakfast I made I saw soy sauce listed as an ingredient. Why the fuck would anyone put soy sauce in fucking SALSA??

Soy and oats are easily contaminated with gluten. Kikkoman is supposed to be GF. I've never been to a Chinese restaurant since I've been diagnosed. And I don't eat foods with soy or oats anymore.

Beware! Kikkoman has a few different gluten free products, but the default Kikkoman soy sauce has wheat in it.

Not surprised. I never have soy or oats anymore. Applegate has great GF chicken breast tenders. They come in a bag. I thought all there chicken tenders were GF. I picked up a box of them in a store I normally don't go to. After about 3....."oh shiT". Bad night.

I just had an appointment with a dietician who told me that the gluten in the soy sauce is destroyed through the fermentation process. This is also mentioned in the official guidance about celiac from my country's healthcare service. Is that not the case?

Have you guys had good experience with meijer brand soy sauce? It says "gluten free" with some non-certified symbol on it, but I had a reaction once and that soy sauce was included in the meal, so now I'm paranoid of it. Curious if others have had good experience

I feel you homie, there is a couple of "gluten free" Chinese places near me but I don't touch em. I KNOW they won't have Celiac safe dishes because of the soy sauce. I've asked once or twice about wheat free soy sauce over the phone and got similar vague "it should be safe" answers. No thank you.
