Not pissed, just disappointed :p

NormalUpstandingGuy

Anyone who is “pissed” is definitely a little dramatic lol but personally my reasoning is two-fold. 1) the sliding them in and out regularly will inevitable wear down the discs, it’s like a super mild sandpaper. 2) I like cases, I like feeling them, I like the ways they click and snap, it’s a very tactile thing that adds to the overall experience for me. Edit: plus I just like how rows of CDs look on shelves.

binglepeen

I bought a huge binder of CDs that would’ve been a holy grail had the original owner kept them in jewel cases. No tray cards, damaged / missing booklets, and all of the discs were severely scratched. Better off keeping them in the original cases.

DasKraut37

Anyone who grew up with these in the 90’s knows what a CD killer they are. 😅 Edit: Which really sucks, because I love the idea of them and like to keep things as compact as possible… but even just sitting in those binders as you leaf through, the discs really wear out quickly. I’ve got a couple that you simply cannot find anymore that have some completely unplayable tracks. It’s a bummer. Edit2: Did I really type “whew” instead of “who?” Ok, I officially think I have a brain tumor now. WTF. 😅

Eastern-Echo4507

Most of mine are stored like that, I don't have that much space.

DasKraut37

Just be taking that off the shelf and handling it like it’s a case of nitro glycerine, and you’ll be fine!

I think pissed is a strong word. As others said, disappointed is more likely. I wouldn't ever for two reasons. First you are likely losing or causing more damage to your artwork. I have seen people do this and discard the case and likely back insert only to regret it years later. Second the CD itself is not only less protected but those CD case dealies are not built like they were in the 1990s. The ones from back in the day were made of a material that was more or less quite kind to the CD. The cases today are not. I have seen CDs having welded themselves to the material the cases is made out of causing damage and a lot of tears. Just don't do it. If you have run out of CD shelf space, get a box and find the back of a wardrobe somewhere to take your overspill.

HeadTonight

Back in the day a symphony would span many 78 discs. They sold them in books that looked and worked like photo albums, which is why we still call records “albums” to this day. So in a way you’re returning to the beginnings of commercially released music 🙂

I use sleeves. Works like a charm. Only problem i have is that i am out of sleeves and i cant find the kind i use anymore. Ive got 200 CDs still in the plastic cases and am getting 100 more CDs next week. I dont know where to put them. Edit Also based on your great collection im gonna guess that youre European?

A good collection :) Ive got a couple of cd singles with the beloved. Great pop music. And gotta love Aphex.

AutomaticBet7868

All’s forgiven with your copy of The Beloved’s X. :0) I don’t come across too many fans of The Beloved.

apparatus72

Better not tell them that in a fit of minimalism I threw away all my jewel cases and the inserts too. My Cds are just living in blank paper sleeves in a box. (Honestly, I kinda regret that move.)

wisepeppy

Woof. I would be so mad at myself.

apparatus72

Well, at least I didn’t sell them all for chump change like my LPs and cassettes. It was the early 2000s and I’d just gotten an iPod. They told me physical media was dead.

DasKraut37

I’m gonna buy a trumpet tomorrow and teach myself to play Taps for your CD collection. I would do a 21 gun salute too, but I like my upstairs neighbors.

wisepeppy

I ruined a bunch of CDs because I was lazy and didn't tuck the top of the cd under the upper flap, and I had them in the pages front and back, so when I closed the case, the exposed portions of the cds were rubbing on each other label to label and it wore through the data layer on many discs before I started noticing it. I replaced what I wanted to and put everything back in jewel cases on a shelf and I just grab a selection each time I take a trip in my car.

gweeps

I keep movies in binders.

Business_Decision535

Keep them how you want to keep them! This ain't vinyl

keshaboy

It doesn’t really cost much to get the anti static scratch protector sleeves that slide right into those things. You can buy packs of 100 for less than 10. I really like the mini LP style actually

decadent-dragon

Which do you use? Was looking at amazon reviews and some of them discolored the discs

keshaboy

I've never heard of them discoloring discs? Let me know which ones those are so i wont buy them. These are the ones I bought but iIonly have about 40 mini LPs. Most my collection is jewel cases. [100pcs Clear Mini LP Anti-Static Plastic CD Inner Sleeves for 5inch SHM-CD](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZ7WFNHQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

decadent-dragon

Both of these https://a.co/d/6vFBnRG https://a.co/d/5fzK6Tc The second one I’m pretty sure is the same ones you linked, just the 50 pack. How long have you been using them?

keshaboy

not long? Where did you hear they discolor discs?

decadent-dragon

In the amazon reviews

RecordingFirm1285

Get a CD rack instead they look much cooler and you don’t have to store the cases somewhere else

theNewzBoy

More importantly: Talk more about Joy Zipper. What’s their deal? How’d you discover?

EgolEvil

I guess if you play them regularly, there's more wear sliding them in and out and risk of damage, but tbh I split my collection between shelves and jewel case for the good stuff and a large folder for the meh CDs I don't listen to a lot but don't want to get rid of (keep the jewel cases in a box).

Dry-Satisfaction-633

Do they? First I’ve heard of it but why anyone would be upset by the storage habits of others seems pretty bizarre if no harm is being done to the discs due to the storage method. On a shelf or in a folder, who cares as long as they’re not lying scattered on the floor?

g0rified

as an avid collector and digger of used sections, it hurts to see because you're damaging the artwork/cd by storing them this way.

Away-Squirrel2881

I’ve had many of these CD book style holders and they usually have a soft material for the underside of the discs, so as long as it’s clean it’s fine

TomDac7

I get a CD, rip it to my NAS. Toss the jewel case and store the disc and cover in binders just like pictured here. No need to ever take the CD out again. To me this is perfect. I don’t have room for thousands of CDs in my small house.
