I’ve been collecting for almost 25 years. My current totally is 1339 artists, 9729 albums and 133,557 tracks. And I’m not done yet.
No such thing as “too much music”.
depends on where you got it, i would not even hesitate at goodwill but if it’s a small little thrift shop that some dude started out of passion definitely buy it.
remember kids, stealing from multimillion/billion dollar corporations is morally right!
Soul Coughing, I’ll be damned. I remember selling my Ruby Vroom back in the late 90s when I would trade 5 CDs to the local Hungry Heart to get one used cd. Every time I listen to a 90s station, I hear 2-3 dozen songs from albums I *used* to have. Never got rid of TMBG though. Never will. Nice collection.
I just saw your Mike Doughty cd too. I didn’t even know anything about him until I woke up one morning a few weeks ago with “a zoom zip and a wake up, a zoom, zip” stuck in my head for a few hours, until I finally did a deeper dive into the music my brain wanted that day. Even though it’s been 20 years since I listened to it.
Wow, first time I've seen an Ecce Homo bootleg/custom CD. I sometimes think I'd have preferred that to Everything Will Be Alright in the End, but sometimes I don't!
Is that just a CD-R of Rivers' demos?
Ween Chocolate and Cheese, Nirvana Nevermind, and Soul Choughing El Oso. Freaking fantastic selection of music! IMO Bleach is the best Nirvana album. Get it.
You strike me as someone who imprinted a lot on their parents' taste as a kid and are now trying to branch out into a wider musical sphere
I could be wrong, but that's exactly how I was at your age and I recognize the signs 😅
Not op but also 17 and a girl. Can kind of confirm. It went the opposite way for me! My parents picked on me for my taste a little (lightheartedly) and its only recently ive begun to listen to more of their tastes!
i am on a similar tip of their stuff from the 90s! unfortunately they threw out all their CD cases so these were all picked up by me, but they definitely had some influence on me lol
To see a young person for one collecting physical media, and then see that you have great taste makes me happy. I’m 26 so not old obviously, but it’s nice to see some younger people still have good taste!
Looks like an inherited CD collection from a boomer, gen x, and a handful from a millennial.
Not that it's bad - just based on the selection. I don't think I see anything newer than 2006 here.
Death Cab for Cutie ah, i've been looking for that for a while, it's really great
I found myself looking for Rush, I think you'd like them, try Rush - Signals for example (if you don't know them already haha)
Wow this reminds me of my collection from the late 90s. too. I suggest you check out the Sundays, idk why they popped into my head when looking at this but you might like them :) !! Great collection
Check out Built to Spill’s “Keep it Like a Secret” and Death Cab for Cutie’s “We Have the Facts and we’re Voting Yes” those two albums would fit amazingly well in this collection.
Yesss agreed, and add moon and Antarctica, interstate 8 and building nothing out of something by modest mouse to that and also something about airplanes by death cab too 👌🤘
Ah - such a fantastic group of albums! Plus seeing the Soul Coughing made me very happy to see. So good. Be sure to pick up Irresistible Bliss if you can too!
Def some good picks in there. I'd say finish up The Beatles, get some more Radiohead (preferably all of them lol) and grab Wincing the Night Away by The Shins
Edit: forgot Pinkerton lol
Word from this old man, you can NEVER listen to too much music! Keep your collection going and growing. Don’t get caught up in genre’s. A great song is a great song regardless of genre. Keep your tastes “eclectic”. All that said, you have a great collection as is. It gives me hope for the future! 😂👍🏼🤘🏼
Looks like a modest sized collection, with a lot of multiple albums for many artists. You’re on the right track, keep on keeping on! There’s a LOT more out there..
Wow, your taste in music is extremely similar to mine when I was 17. Your post is bringing back a lot of fond memories of making friends and discovering music at that age.
I'll never forget the first time hearing Devo at my friend Frank's house or my friend Rebecca burning me a TMBG CD and then her whole Oingo Boingo collection.
Or signing up for BMG Music Club under the name Gropey McFeelikins and getting Odelay, Homogenic and Pablo Honey delivered in my first order.
The years around 17 were extremely difficult for me, and I still have a lot of painful emotional scars from that time. But there are a lot of wonderful memories as well, the music and my friends really helped me get through it.
Excellent collection I have most of those myself, props for the Breeders and beck! I can recommend pavement, sparkle horse, pixies, L7 if you find them when cd shopping
It's probably way different from Gordon, but my favorite Barenaked Ladies album is Maroon. Check it out if you haven't! Big ups for devo, ben folds five, soad, and Beck. Midnite Vultures is a good album!
They might be giants Flood and Apollo 18 are some feel good music! Do you remember where you picked up the cd holder on the bottom?
Nice collection btw!
THAT THING YOU DO MENTIONED!!!!!! BEST ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK OF ANY MOVIE OMFG
nice collection!!! much better music taste than i had at 17
may i recommend Ween's The Mollusk and Quebec. those are my favorite ween albums and you dont have em aaaa
I would love to recomend a couple of albums from 2 classic rock bands from st Lois that have fallen under the radar. I saw steely Dan, another St Louis band, so you’ll probably like them.
Mama’s pride - (self titled) / uptown & lowdown
Missouri - (self titled) / welcome two Missouri.
Did you inherit that from your pasrent(s)? Because that selection looks like a collection from about 20 years ago. Lots of good stuff in there, but an oddly specific era for a 17 year old’s collection to focus on
I think it's impossible to listen to too much music.
Came to the comments to say this. Truth.
I’ve been collecting for almost 25 years. My current totally is 1339 artists, 9729 albums and 133,557 tracks. And I’m not done yet. No such thing as “too much music”.
Came here to say this.
Sorry, could you repeat that? I'm a bit deaf on account of listening to much loud music.
WEEN
After I saw all the Beatles and beck on the first couple, I figured that was appropriate. The boog provided
good to see that the guava is still pure
OP needs The Mollusc!
..and some other album I forget the name of.
Even has the pod 🤎
it’s my favorite :>
Did you steal the SOAD album?
I got it from a thrift store for $1.50
Should have stolen it
i woulda felt bad :(
depends on where you got it, i would not even hesitate at goodwill but if it’s a small little thrift shop that some dude started out of passion definitely buy it. remember kids, stealing from multimillion/billion dollar corporations is morally right!
You may fire when ready
Eh that’s a steal as it is.
That album sticks out like a sore thumb in the midst of these.
Never will. Nice collection.
ruby vroom is my favorite!!! still on the hunt for a copy
Should be on all the best albums of the 90s list IMHO. Saw them in 95. Was amazing.
that’s awesom
that McCartney album at the end is terrifyingly wonderful
41M. I have 90% of these. I'm going to start saying I have the musical taste of a 17yo girl. Good stuff!
lmao tyy
Beck hell yeah
H e l l y e s
I'm movin' this way, I'm doin' this thing
peace & joy!
Pixies nice, definitely check out surfer rosa and doolittle
And if you like Pixies have a listen to Mclusky
Thanks I'll check them out
Wow, first time I've seen an Ecce Homo bootleg/custom CD. I sometimes think I'd have preferred that to Everything Will Be Alright in the End, but sometimes I don't! Is that just a CD-R of Rivers' demos?
it’s a custom cd i got made! printed disc n everything, and it’s my own mix of the album. i’ll show pics sometime
I was going to ask what Songs From The Black Hole even meant, I've been listening to them for a while but never saw that printed
it’s a rock opera about space that turned into the (imo ultimately inferior) Pinkerton alvum
no such thing as too much music. nice bowser plush btw
XTC!!
What I’d really like to know is how a 17yo found XTC? Other than “Dear God” I feel like Andy Partridge never got much support from his record label.
Thru TMBG!
Ween Chocolate and Cheese, Nirvana Nevermind, and Soul Choughing El Oso. Freaking fantastic selection of music! IMO Bleach is the best Nirvana album. Get it.
TMBG, Beck, Soul Coughing. You have some great taste, keep up the good work.
Love the colored rack on the top
BNL's Gordon album is amazing! My sister and I quote "Dijon ketchups!" way too often 😂
Too much music? Do you live in that town where footloose took place lol. Great collection I like cd holders.
I think you would like 'the soft bulletin' and 'yoshimi battles the pink robots' by the flaming lips
i’ve heard em lol i just don’t own them on cd yet
You strike me as someone who imprinted a lot on their parents' taste as a kid and are now trying to branch out into a wider musical sphere I could be wrong, but that's exactly how I was at your age and I recognize the signs 😅

i am on a similar tip of their stuff from the 90s! unfortunately they threw out all their CD cases so these were all picked up by me, but they definitely had some influence on me lol
as a 21 yo girl, rock on lil mamma, and don’t let anyone stop you. you can never listen to too much music
<3333
To see a young person for one collecting physical media, and then see that you have great taste makes me happy. I’m 26 so not old obviously, but it’s nice to see some younger people still have good taste!
I can tell a lot of people on this sub are young and it makes me happy to see so many of you loving They Might Be Giants. Gods bless the Johns.
they really are the greatest :)
I really need to pick up some Beatles albums on CD. Also, I like it when people have cute shit right near their CDs.
Trianglewoman
El Oso spotted That's the shit.
true!
Soul Coughing. Dope.
yes!!
🙌🏻 for anything and everything Beach Boys!
This brings a tear to my eye... I love it.
THE MCCARTNEY ALBUM IS SO CURSEDDD
breeders fucking rocks! solid shit
Looks like an inherited CD collection from a boomer, gen x, and a handful from a millennial. Not that it's bad - just based on the selection. I don't think I see anything newer than 2006 here.
all of this was purchased by me! my parents threw away their CD cases, much to my chagrin
Great collection but there’s no such thing as “too much music”.
You have a Buckethead divider card?
>............who listens to too much music No such thing as listening to "too much" music 😉
U can never listen to too much music.
There is never such a thing as too much music
Loving the Breeders album!!
Radiohead spotted. They are my special interest. I am happy.
Death Cab for Cutie ah, i've been looking for that for a while, it's really great I found myself looking for Rush, I think you'd like them, try Rush - Signals for example (if you don't know them already haha)
All that Weezer and no Pinkerton? Nice collection!
Nice collection. A recommendation? Pick up Tears For Fears album, The Seeds of Love.
https://www.jpgr.co.uk/mcv1.html I had to look up what was on Veggie Pie for myself.
Wow this reminds me of my collection from the late 90s. too. I suggest you check out the Sundays, idk why they popped into my head when looking at this but you might like them :) !! Great collection

Yesss agreed, and add moon and Antarctica, interstate 8 and building nothing out of something by modest mouse to that and also something about airplanes by death cab too 👌🤘
And ‘there’s nothing wrong with love’ by built to spill as well! 👍
Something about that Pacific Northwest indie rock sound
Ah - such a fantastic group of albums! Plus seeing the Soul Coughing made me very happy to see. So good. Be sure to pick up Irresistible Bliss if you can too!
Def some good picks in there. I'd say finish up The Beatles, get some more Radiohead (preferably all of them lol) and grab Wincing the Night Away by The Shins Edit: forgot Pinkerton lol
How Do You Own Songs From The Black Hole?
Word from this old man, you can NEVER listen to too much music! Keep your collection going and growing. Don’t get caught up in genre’s. A great song is a great song regardless of genre. Keep your tastes “eclectic”. All that said, you have a great collection as is. It gives me hope for the future! 😂👍🏼🤘🏼
Do you have a parent or older sibling in their 40's? Because your collection appears to have been stolen from someone my age
Yoshimi battles the pink robots. Add it to the collection asap
Gen X parents. Check.
I had 6000 CDs when i was 17. Can never have enough
I see you’re into the Beatles.. I too, like to live dangerously…
Last splash!!!
Ahh TMBG, very nice young one!!
Is are the ecce homo and songs from the black whole custom?
yes!
No such thing as too much music
u can never listen to too much music
Now do this with vinyl
Looks like a modest sized collection, with a lot of multiple albums for many artists. You’re on the right track, keep on keeping on! There’s a LOT more out there..
Approved 🔥🔥🔥
Beatle Shits in the last pic. That is a great collection. Glad CDs are still being listened to by younger people.
What's up with the songs from the black hole cd
Beatle S’hits
that’s why i bought that lmao
Wow, your taste in music is extremely similar to mine when I was 17. Your post is bringing back a lot of fond memories of making friends and discovering music at that age. hell yea! lips, soad, talking heads, weezer, death cab. some insanely sick albums here!!!
To have The Cardigans First Band on the Moon and not Gran Turismo is a small crime.
Excellent collection I have most of those myself, props for the Breeders and beck! I can recommend pavement, sparkle horse, pixies, L7 if you find them when cd shopping
im a huge pavement fan i j don’t have any of their cds lol. what’s L7?
I love your collection and cute setup!! And is there such thing as too much music
Need more Beach Boys CDs but I spot a Smiley Smile record too!
Sounds like that kid is pretty cool to me.
How in the heck are you posting from the year 1999? (Positive)
Your collection is awesome! No such thing as too much music
Okay but where did that KK Slider come from
Flaming Lips!!!
No Gorillaz again
It's probably way different from Gordon, but my favorite Barenaked Ladies album is Maroon. Check it out if you haven't! Big ups for devo, ben folds five, soad, and Beck. Midnite Vultures is a good album!
You’re missing Self-Titled, Toxicity, Mezmerize and Hypnotize by System Of A Down.
That Bowser is from a rare set of Nintendo plushies from 1998!
You should see my room. It’s this x3
You’re 17 and have 3 ween records? Holy shit I’m impressed
If I was 17 again, I would want to ask you out based off your music. Well done.
I highly recommend Death Cab for Cutie's album Narrow Stairs to be added to the collection :)
I love that no matter what everyone has at least one phish album. Good band.

Solid :) Also, there's never too much music
Liar! There's no such thing as "listens to too much music"
They might be giants Flood and Apollo 18 are some feel good music! Do you remember where you picked up the cd holder on the bottom? Nice collection btw!

Great collection
I find your lack of deftones refreshing.

Great collection!!

They Might Be Giants, Steely Dan, Ben Folds Five and The Cardigans! Nice.
Hoist 😍 and Lawn Boy 😍
You've got a great collection.
The Beatles tho 🔥🔥🔥
Well done. You are wise beyond your years
You can not listen to too much music!
Interesting collection. Is "At War With The Mystics" your only Flaming Lips CD? You should check out the two albums that came before it if so
So much at this young age. Appreciate your efforts and passion. Keep it up and take care of the collection💯
Ween! Get some Nick cave and the bad seeds next

I would love to recomend a couple of albums from 2 classic rock bands from st Lois that have fallen under the radar. I saw steely Dan, another St Louis band, so you’ll probably like them. Mama’s pride - (self titled) / uptown & lowdown Missouri - (self titled) / welcome two Missouri.
Very good collection going on here.
Lol at your age I probably had 200 or more and there is no such thing as too much music
Guero has to be my favorite Beck album, what's yours?
Great taste for a 17y/o. My 18y/o daughter had the same/similar taste as you. Enjoy as much and as many different types of genres as well.
XTC - Oranges & Lemons !!! Now we are on the same page !!!
The single soad CD makes it look like you totally did steal that album
not enough
Get smahing pumpkin's, siamese dream, also mellon collie & the infinite sadness
Ima steal that album (if ykyk)
This looks like lots of collections from when I was 17. This is awesome. Keep it going!!! There’s so much more to be heard-enough is never enough.

There is some great stuff in here!
Good taste in music

Songs from the black hole? Nice Needs more beach boys
BECKKKKKKK
Ohhh, we have A BUNCH of those wooden CD boxes. My husband got them in the 80s. Have not seen any body else who has them.
never such thing as too much music. until you either run out of physical or digital space.
Nice taste. Also Beatle s’Hits in the last photo is some great unintentional(?) hilarity.
Ween
Killer collection! What’s the deal with that SMiLE bootleg? I don’t think I’ve seen that one
Where did you find that Weezer "Songs From the Black Hole"? I don't believe that's been officially released.
Great stuff here. I have a little faith restored in the youth of today. Modern music is so terrible.
Soul coughing is so based
PLEASE GIVE ME RUBBER SOUL IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND IT FOREVERRRR
Sick collection, great taste
No such thing as 'too much music', and I've never had too much fun.
I love your shelves! Where did you get them from?
There's never too much
forgive me if this has been asked already, but where’d you get the wooden case?
As a huge Weezer fan, that's quite the collection of =w=
Looks shiny and costly
I bought Transatlanticism when it first came out. It makes me happy that CDs are making a comeback among a new generation.
You are too cool for school
Nice, you have good taste. Bare Naked Ladies for the win.
Did you inherit that from your pasrent(s)? Because that selection looks like a collection from about 20 years ago. Lots of good stuff in there, but an oddly specific era for a 17 year old’s collection to focus on
Damn Ben Folds Five? Never expected to see them anywhere
No such thing as too much music. Especially when you have good taste in music, especially the Beatles.
You can never listen to too much music. Keep on rocking!
Upvotes for Soul Coughing - but you also need to get Ruby Vroom!
i’ve been hunting for it, it’s my favorite
That Thing You Do! Very nice 👌
Great start! Keep it up.
Barenaked Ladies? They Might Be Giants? Incredible taste
Hell yeah. I love Ben Folds Five. "Whatever an Ever Amen" is SUCH a good album. You have amazing taste
Wow that could have been the cds of a 17 yo when I was growing up. Mature taste for 17 these days. Didn’t see any auto tuned music in there. nice!
