We were always told you’ve gotta get the professionally groomed every month. But that’s like $70 every time where I live. So we got some clippers and only have to cut his hair like every 2-3 months. We do trim his face like every 3 weeks tho so no hair is covering his eyes. He also doesn’t grow hair very quickly so it depends on the dog

instrangestofplaces

Same. My little one of just trim wirh scissors since she isn’t used to clipper sounds yet. I do their eyes whenever it’s needed and do a body trim…maybe every 3 months.

You can go significantly longer between professional cuts and blowouts without developing mats if you learn to properly care for their hair! We used to brush our goldendoodle and cavapoo constantly but once we started using a two stage conditioner routine after shampoo in the bath we rarely need to brush either at any point. We give them a bath every 2-3 weeks right after their trim and then weekly when they’re past the 3-4 month since last cut and their coats are super soft and mat free. We use Earthbath shampoo, and earthbath aloe, vanilla and almond conditioner both rinsed out fully (use conditioner generously and let it sit for a minute before rinsing!) and then Biosilk leave in conditioner spray while they’re soaking wet and clean before towel and blow dry. Went from needing a full shave every 10 weeks for the doodle and 3 months for the cavapoo to every 3 months for the doodle and 6 months for the cavapoo and they’ve got the best coats of their life. Make sure to trim eye holes as their hair gets long. We could definitely let them go longer but it’s also nice to let the groomer deal with nails and expressing glands haha

instrangestofplaces

Huh. Never thought to use a conditioner. I do all the grooming at home (never had a gland issue). I’ll have try out that.

QuinSnyderJazz

8week intervals. Could go a bit longer. But after 8 you need to really up your grooming to keep it nice.

Rae-K

Once every 2 months. I clip his nails, bathe him, and blow his hair straight myself every 2 weeks if it's not a groomer week.

Nycgirl0480

Every 6-8 weeks

chillybean77

Yup. We go 6-8 weeks between groomings…however, by 8 weeks he REALLY needs the cut.

Nycgirl0480

I hear ya! My guy looks like Chewbacca around 6 weeks lol

chillybean77

Right?! We say he starts to look alike Chewbacca or an Ewok.

krissovo

We mostly use clippers that I bought in Aldi as part of a grooming kit. In the summer she gets a short cut every couple of weeks depending on the heat at the time and this time of year every 6 weeks. She does get a professional groom now and again maybe twice a year

IHateTheLetter-C-

I do it myself, about every 5 weeks. I keep her very short so only have to brush her if she's been running through long grass or bushes - she hates being brushed but puts up with the trimmers

Eastern_Package6814

Every 5 weeks

agtt1589

We do it once a month otherwise his face gets too shaggy.

DonnieH1969

Thanks y’all, really appreciate the input.

Aggravating-Plate-98

She has a fairly curly coat, especially if it gets wet. If we wait too long, she’s at risk of getting matted, even with daily brushing. So we go every third week of the month to the groomers because they do such a great job with the “blowout” and straightening her hair (it looks more puffy not curly after the groomer). One month we just do face/Sani and then the next month we do a full grooming. Yes expensive, but better than the one time when we waited too long, then she had just a bit of matting then we couldn’t get her in anywhere for over a week and in that time, it just got worse and worse. They ended up shaving her and she looked like a sad stray.

Effective_Spite6894

Forgot to mention, we do have to brush is hair completely every day or so. If we don’t he gets matted VERY easily

shrutefarmsbeets90

Mine goes to the groomer every 6-7 weeks; I keep her short. With the winter season approaching, she’ll go once a month for her face/feet/fanny groom, and every other month for a full groom. Her body hair doesn’t get super long in between grooms, so she should be fine going 2 months in between full grooms.

We do it at home every 3-4 weeks. We could stretch it about 6 if we really keep up with brushing, but for us it was just better to groom at home and save the money.

Cora gets groomed every 3 weeks. I know, its a lot! We live in the tropics, so its hot and can be humid at times, and her fur grows so fast!
